Itouch not charging or showing icon on Itunes

I plugged it in last night and the symbol won't show the charging bolt.  Nor will it connect to itunes.  Any help?

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It just stopped charging all of a sudden. No charging bolt icon when plugged into either the wall charger or the computer. When plugged into the computer, it is not recogized at all as an USB device. So of course it did not show up in iTune. Whatever charge it had left, it got drained very quickly while the battery got very hot. Also, when plugged into the wall charger, although no charging bolt icon, it was being charged very slowly. The battery would even show 100% charged eventually, but it also got very hold while being charged. Since it wouldn't show in iTune, I could not even do a hard restore. Made an appointment with the Apple Store Genius Bar. It was obviously a battery issue, as one can feel the battery getting hot after just a couple of minutes. There was nothing they could do either since they could not even run any diagnostic test on it. They offered me to swap it for a new one for $79. I had it only for about 14 month, so it is out of warranty. This really *****, but what can I do? The battery was definitely dead, but there might be other issue too, since it couldn't be recognized by the computer. So I just handed them the money and got a replacement. Mine was a 2g. I was hoping to at least get a 4g replacement, but no. They still have 2g in stock. So that's that.

  • IPod will not charge or show up in iTunes

My iPod will not charge when I connect it to my computer through the USB cable. It does not show up on iTunes. Nothing comes up on the iPod screen at all. The iPod is completely dead. I have tried pressing the menu and center button at the same time. I have tried toggling the hold button. I have tried every combination. It is an old iPod (3 or 4 years at least) 80gb video. I have tried charging on another computer. It seems to only stop working like this if the battery dies completely.
Is there another solution to this besides the menu/center button solution?
    Thanks!!

This is the exact same problem I have. The only thing that works for me is to charge it on an old ihome alarm clock. I bought the alarm clock at the same time as the ipod, and I haven't tried it on a newer ihome device. Once my ipod is totally dead, thats the only thing that will work. I even took it to the apple store and they told me all they could do was give me 10% off a new ipod and "recycle" mine. Before you do that, I would really recommend trying to charge it on an ihome or similar device. Here is a link to the ihome I used to charge mine: http://www.uberreview.com/2005/06/ihome-ih5-ipod-alarm-clock.htm
I hope this works for you!

  • HT1476 iPhone 4 not charging or showing up in iTunes.

My iPhone 4 doesn't show up in iTunes anymore.  It launches iPhoto but not iTunes. Also, it will only charge intermittently on an HP PC. When connected to any other charger, its home Mac or another Mac I get this message - "Charging is not supported with this accessory". I've tried several different cables and rebooting as well. Haven't updated iOS yet after hearing many horror stories from people who did with older iPhones.

I think I solved my iPhone 4 problems. Mac OS X v10.6 has issues with iTunes not seeing iPhones. http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3540
Followed instructions from above link then installed latest version of iTunes. Restored my iPhone which updated the firmware and software. iTunes now sees my iPhone and my iPhone is charging from my Mac as well as from a wall charger. Hope the fixes hold!

  • Itouch will charge on wall charger, but will not charge or show up when I plug it into the computer. All I get is a double beep and nothing happens. I uninstalled and re installed itunes. I shut down the computer and shut down the itouch. What next?

I touch will not charge or show up on the computer. It charges on the wall charger. I uninstalled and re-installed itunes and I also restarted the itouch and the computer. What next?

Play it safe with the charging.  Use the wall charger for at least an hour and then connect to the computer.  If iTunes still denies that it exists, go here:

  • HT1510 my iPod shuffle 4th gen won't charge or show up in iTunes

my iPod shuffle 4th gen won't charge or show up in iTunes when i plug it in to the back of the computer and when the off/on switch is halfway it gives me a solid red light on the iPod battery status light for about five seconds does anyone know what to do

If you connect it to the Mac with iTunes NOT running, and run Disk Utility, does it appear in the sidebar as a "disk"?  Also, you can run System Profiler or System Information (depending Mac OS X version).  It is in Applications/Utilities/, but you can also run it from the About This Mac window.  Does the shuffle appear as a device under USB?
The red light when you move the power switch to ON means very low charge in battery.  That probably means the battery is not getting charged when connected.  In terms of hardware, that could mean a bad USB port on Mac, a bad USB cable, or a bad connection on the shuffle.  In any case, power is not getting to the battery.  It might be a bad battery, but if that was the only problem, I think the shuffle would still appear in iTunes when connected.  That's why asked if it appeared in Disk Utility or System Profiler/Information; if it does, the connection is working (even though iTunes does not see it for some reason).
You can make sure the USB port is working by using something else that is similar (like a USB flash drive) on the same port.  If you happen to have another USB cable, you also try to rule out a bad cable.

If you still have an issue you may have to see about using the iTunes version (application) included with Snow Leopard 10.6 from the installer or an another one if available online, and see if that will install.
Sometimes you may have uninstall the bits left in your system by the earlier (or later) iTunes installers; as they all leave a trace and these can stop a different version of iTunes from being installed.

    See:

    I would start with
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
Run this to help if it identifies the cause

Have you tried on another computer to help determine if you have a computer or iPod problem?

  • I do not see the airport icon in iTunes anymore on my PC...

My airport use to work with my PC, but now, when I make an update it says "Airport requires that your computer is running Windows 7 SP1 or later" ?
Is there a way to make it work again ?
I do not see the airport icon in iTunes anymore...
But my computer is able to see the Wi-fi from my airport.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Unfortunately your software is not up-to-date. OS X 10.6.8 does not contain iCloud. You should update to OS X 10.8 if you wish to use iCloud from your Mac.

  • Apple TV not syncing TV shows after updating iTunes

    Hope someone can help!
I upgraded to the new iTunes version. Everything seemed to work fine - movies and music appeared.  When I tried TV shows, nothing appeared.  I checked my computer and saw that everything had been moved to the iCloud EXCEPT for the latest season of any TV show!  For example, Glee Seasons 1-4 showed up but Season 5 did not.  Nothing synced with Apple TV unless I downloaded it.  Again, movies and photos are fine. Even movies that are not downloaded are showing up in iTunes but TV shows are not.
I restarted Apple TV with no effect. I de-linked and then re-synced my library but this did not change the problem.
I checked the settings and the box "Show only synced items on my Apple TV" is NOT checked but that is exactly what is happening.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you,
    Elizabeth Sullivan

I solved the issue - I had to go to Apple TV, settings, computer, and connect to my iTunes library.  Even though my Apple TV had previously had been connected to my iTunes library and was visible on the Apple TV, it was now "greyed out".  I had to select my library again and it immediately showed up in iTunes and I had to confirm with the code that appeared on the Apple TV.  It did erase the content on my Apple TV and it will take time to re-sync, but it was immediately able to stream content from my computer.  This set up is pretty much the same way I set it up in the first place.  All is well....

  • My iPad will not charge, it can sync to iTunes and transfer data/music to it, but when plugged in to a USB or an A/C wall adapter all it says is not charging.

My iPad will not charge, it can sync to iTunes and transfer data/music to it, but when plugged in to a USB or an A/C wall adapter all it says is not charging.

A lot of computers (especially older ones) generally do not provide enough power to their USB ports to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off (if you leave it for a while and then disconnect it from your computer you may find that it's battery percentage has gone up). The wall charger is usually the most efficient way to charge the iPad.
In terms of the wall charger, have you tried a different charger and/or cable, or do you know anybody else with an iPad so that you can try their charger and cable and they can try yours ?
Have you tried a reset to see if it charges after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • My iphone does not charge or show up as a device in itunes when i plug it into my computer

I've never had a problem connecting my phone to the computer, but in the last two or so weeks I have been unable to sync or charge my iphone 4 through my MacBook Pro (OSX). The phone does not charge and it does not show up in the "devices" section of itunes. The cord charges through an AC adaptor with no problems and my USB ports all work fine. I have done everything suggested so far, including deleting podcasts, restarting my computer, restarting the phone, uninstalling and reinstalling itunes... I'm not sure what else to do. Any suggestions would be very welcome!

I removed the AMDS as part of the instructions for completely removing itunes. Nothing changed unfortunately. I don't understand why it is happening!
I have already checked for lint, etc as you suggested, but don't have another USB cable on me at the moment. I'll be returning home tomorrow so will try then, but I would have thought the cable was fine as it still charges the phone through an AC adaptor fine. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Itouch not charging on my Macbook & not being displayed in Itunes

    Hi,
I have a 3rd Gen 32G Ipod Touch with iOS 4.1 that I'm using on my macbook (10.4.11) and Itunes (9.2.1).
Until a week ago it was working fine, syncing correctly and so on. Unfortunately it's not working properly anymore and I really don't know why.
The USB cable works, my USB ports work too. I've restarted my computer/ itunes/ itouch but I don't want to reboot my itouch and lose all my data if I can avoid it. I haven't done any upgrade in the past few weeks, it really stopped working for no apparent reason.
I think it's being "recognized" though because when I plug the Itouch to my macbook it will turn on (if it was turned off), will display the Apple sign, tell me the battery is low and needs to be plugged in. And that's all it does...
Right now I'm using my boyfriend's PC to charge it but my music is on my laptop so it's not a real solution.
I hope it doesn't mean I have to upgrade to 10.5 to download itunes 10 just to be able to use my Itouch as usual. This would be a major rip-off!
    Thanks for your help!!!

    Thanks for your answers!
Alright so my itouch is now fully charged (thanks to a PC) but it's still not detected by my macbook or itunes. I did check the link you gave me lllaass but there's nothing there I haven't tried.
They mention that there could be a conflict but how would I know? Should I just uninstall and install all of my softwares? And I have no firewall or anti-virus so it can't be that...
What I really don't like is to read on the first page "If your computer does not meet these requirements, you may need to upgrade your computer before using iPod touch." I don't have OS 10.5.8 and I don't plan on buying it just to use my itouch! Especially since it was working perfectly until a few days ago... What a headache!

  • IPod Classic not charging or showing in coputer devices/iTunes

When I connect my iPod classic (120Gb) to my laptop it no longer shows under the computers devices.
The screen of the iPod shows "Charging. Please wait...". However, it does not charge. I have tried connecting the iPod to other computers to charge and with other USB connectors but there is still no difference. HELP!!

    Hello Aideen,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
So you have tried using a different USB cable as well as plugging the iPod into different USB ports on your computer? Have you tried resetting your iPod with it connected to your computer? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears. Try more than once if need be.
Otherwise, have you considered uninstalling iTunes and all Apple software on your system and starting from scratch? Here are instructions if need be.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1925
What happens when you force the iPod into *Disk Mode* using the instruction in this Apple support document?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1363
Does it appear in "My Computer" at least as a mounted drive? If so, try reformatting it using the tools provided by windows?
