ITouch not recognizing headphones?

I've had my 8GB itouch for about a year and a half now and in that year I've run through quite a few pairs of headphones. Usually I just assume I've burned them out and buy another pair, but recently another pair of good quality died on me ,audio always goes dead in the left bud, after only a month. Because of the holiday season I asked to use my Father's extra earphones to avoid the store and was surprised to learn that his were broken exactly like mine as well. My dad took them back, told me they worked fine with his ipod, and I tested them with my computer, they worked perfectly until I tried to plug them into my itouch where they went dead in the left ear again.
I'm wondering if something is wrong with my itouch and if there is a solution that doesn't involve warranty service, mine has run out,or if it's just a fluke and the headphones are to blame.
Thanks in advance.

I'm this close to throwing this faulty thing against the wall...
Tell us how that works for you.
No, really, I'm with Anna on this: your post is unclear and you are being impatient.
When I waited 2 hours for it to finish, it would register my touches.
I read this to be saying, your iPod touch (not a iTouch, which is an Italian iPhone knockoff) sat there for 2 hours saying it was trying to move your music to your iPod. That is way, way, way too long. Even filling the entire 32G -- if you had that much in songs, videos, games, etc. -- would not take that long. So, something is not right.
I think your XP machine does see your iPod; when you plug it in it starts iTunes, or when you start iTunes it sees the iPod. Is this true?
Try everything it says to do here: iPod touch Troubleshooting Assistant. Try each thing it tells you to do. Then report back here.

  • 1st Gen iTouch not recognized by iTunes on Laptop

I have a 1st Gen iTouch that I cannot seem to get iTunes to recognize.
About a week ago I re-named it in iTunes, cleaned it up, and performed a sync.
Used it until the battery was low, and re-charged using my wall charger. Now, when I connect to the laptop, is is not recognized at all...
I have tried the following to no avail:
    Re-install iTunes
    Stop/Start the Apple Mobile Device
    Try a different USB cable
Re-boot the laptop with USB devices not plugged in
Force the iTouch into recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808)
Try to connect using a different laptop
It still charges when connected to my wall charger. I have a 2nd gen iTouch that connects just fine (charges & connects to iTunes). I don't what the problem could be?! This iTouch is 1.5 years old and work great apart from this issue. Can anyone help?

I have followed every troubleshooting page on the apple support site yet my ipod nano 6th gen is not recognized by itunes
I have spent 3 days messing with my pc and have made no real progress.
Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty.  Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

  • ITouch not recognized on any PC anymore - Defect USB port the cause?

    Hey guys,
I'm posting here because I've been to the closest Genius Bar twice and they couldn't even tell me what was my problem. I'm kinda desperate right now...
The same problem occurred on my three iPod Touch first gen so far; for some reason they simply stop being recognized by ANY computers. I try different cables, reset, recovery mode, reinstall iTunes, restart the AMDS, update every hardware drivers of my PC... The only thing I haven't done right now is reformatting my PC, which won't happen.
I went to the Apple's Genius Bar and they couldn't find my problem; it wasn't the pins, the cable nor an application problem (I have latest firmware 2.1 by the way). So they gave me another Touch which was also defect. Yesterday, I return and they gave me a third one which worked correctly at the store and on my job's computer.
However, when I got back home I connect it on my own PC (using the same cable et setup) and for some reason, now the same problem reappeared. Doesn't matter what I try, it is not recognized anywhere anymore. When I connect it to a PC, the recharge window never shows; it continue working normally though.
As I said, I updated every hardware drivers and I'm a little tired of going to the store everyday. Could it be caused by a defect USB port? Anyone ever seen something like this?
Some help would be really appreciate.
Thanks for your time and support.
    Frank

I been having the same problem as you, except I haven't tried it in a different computer. For a while, iTunes is recognizing my iTouch as a digital canon camera. Now its not recognizing it as anything.
This problem started started when I downloaded the iTouch 2.0.2 update. When iTunes is open it asked me to update. When I click yes to update the iTunes, it only updates the safari and it won't update the iTunes. Apple support by phone was not able to help me fix this problem. The tech said that the USB port hardware needs to be updated on my computer. It took me almost 5 hours to find out this could be the solution to my problem.
Now, I'm trying to find the USB update thru Microsoft and I'm having difficult time finding this too. I had this iTouch for only 3 months and cost me almost $400 and I'm not able to use it. I have at least 14GB available in this iTouch and I don't know If I will be able to use all this space, it I dont find the solution to this problem.
If you find the solution to this problem, PLEASE reply to this post. If anyone else reading this, your answers are welcome and appreciated. If I cant find a solution to this problem, I will never buy an Apple product again.

  • 4.1.2 Update not recognizing headphones

I upgraded to 4.1.2 and now the phone is not recognizing when headphones are plugged in. I'm tried several headphones that all work on other devices. I've also ensured that there is no lint in the headphone jack.

    This is just a guess:
Settings->sound-> tap on "Audio effects" make sure it is "ON" ->Speaker-> equalizer->balanced
Settings->sound-> tap on "Audio effects" make sure it is "ON" ->Wired Stereo->Effects profile->Live stage
Settings->sound-> tap on "Volumes" make sure volume is up on all available options, "OK"

  • Itouche not  recognized on itunes 10 or on my pc. recognized as a camera

Wondering why I cant just revert back to itunes 9.2.1 without having to delete 10.0. To many people on this forum have lost their libraries for me to take a chance. Is there any clue out there that itunes is going to correct the mess they have made on version 10.0?

Trust me, it's a complete mess already.
Just to answer your question, reverting back to iTunes 9.2.1 would cause the iTuns library file (or iTunes Library.itl) to not be readable due to the fact that the library was changed into a format that iTunes 10.0.0 and up would be able to read. As for now there is no updates further than 10 so unless you want to find all of your music, sync your photos, and lose all of your playlists, you should stay on iTunes 10 and wait until they release an update.
I have an iPhone 4 and it's having the same problem that it was recognized as a camera. Some jerks thought it was normal on the iPhone forums and didn't think that I was saying that it wasn't basically recognized as an iPhone. I then tried a full reinstall and it's not recognized as a camera any more... but still no luck, iTunes 10 did not recognize my phone.
I didn't want to revert back to 9.2.1 because I was at risk of losing a lot of new contacts and some important work related documents I scanned using Genius Scan. =\
Apple should at least acknowledge the problem or else they'll lose another customer.

  • ITouch not recognized

I have an older iMac with the 10.5 software and now my iTouch will not be accepted unless I download the 10.6 or greater, but it will not download any updates to my iMac, because it is not available.  How do I get my iTouch to be recognized again?  Without being able to download any updates on my iMac.  It is a 2007 model.
    Thank You
    Many Blessings,

I don't think you can. I don't know what iOS you have on your touch, but they have only so much of a  backwards compatibility range. If your mac's OS is 'too old' for the touch, the only thing you can do is upgrade your OS or upgrade your mac so you can upgrade your OS.

  • New Itouch not recognized by windows or itunes.

I got the itouch today for XMAS. I have attempet to activate it on two different laptops and my home computer, none of which recognize it in windows or on itunes. The only thing I can consistently get from the itouch screen is the picture to conncet to itunes. WHich obviously doesn't work.
I have reinstalled itunes several times, verified the usb ports (which are multiple) are working. I have reset the itouch, even though I haven't even used it.
Any logical suggestions on how to activate this thing?

I was really frustrated this morning when I expected to plug in my new ipod touch and it did not work...
I have spent hours and hours trying to figure out what in the world is wrong with it.
I called apple support on the phone this morning and none of the troubleshooting ideas worked so I made an appt with customer service on SATURDAY! ahhhhh i seriously do not want to wait....i kind of want to smash it on the ground....
i read everyones thread and the exact same problems are happening to me...
when i pluggled it in it said "This Ipod cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device service is not started." so i went into services and the program refused to start....goody...then on some weird spur of the moment click, it worked but even then my ipod didnt even show up in itunes...made that annoying little noise
im going to see if i can exchange this defective ipod touch for another, but i just hope there arent 5 million people there...(day after christmas)
    good luck everyone!

  • Itouch not recognized by Windows XP

I have both an itouch and iphone. The iphone syncs just fine. The itouch doesn't even show up anywhere (i get the camera thing at the beginning)
I have reinstalled itunes 8. My itouch has the 2.2 upgrade already.
I have tried everything on this forum and other sites and got nada.
    Please help.

Do you have Windows XP "Media Center Edition"? Because if you do, the Touch is not compatible with that. It took us about 6 phone calls and 5 hours on the phone for someone to tell us that.
The Touch later worked perfectly on another computer with Vista.
    Hope this helps!

  • The same problem with Windows Vista 64bit-iTouch not recognized by iTunes

Happy Holidays, all. I was just hoping that someone had come up with a fix to the problem with iTouch and Windows Vista Premium (64bit). All I get is a picture of the plug pointing to the iTunes image on my iTouch, can't even see the regular icons yet. The device is not picked up by iTunes, either. Tried reinstalling iTunes, the whole bit. Thought I'd try one more time to get a fix before returning the product. By the way, if you ever finally do get through to Apple Tech Support, they'll act like they have never heard of the problem (at least the guy I spoke with did. He wasn't very nice or very helpful). Anyway, good luck and thanks.

I have I think the same issue. iTunes can see a Nano but not an iTouch. Vista see the device when I plug it in, but no luch with iTunes. I ended up using a old laptop with XP which is slow and out of hard drive space, so I need a fix.

  • ITouch not recognized....but Classic is... Windows 7 64 bit...please help.

I just purchased a new Dell with Windows 7 64 bit. It will not recognize my iTouch. It will recognize my other iPods.
I deleted McAfee and installed Windows Security Essentials. The Apple Mobile Device is active and automatic. It has been authorized.
Here is the kicker: I have a Dell 1545 laptop I use for work...Windows 7 and running the same security. I loaded iTunes to share iTunes. When I plug the iTouch into the laptop, it recognizes it. I immediately disconnect it to avoid transferring the paid apps.
Can anyone help. I can be emailed directly at [email protected] or posted on the forum. This is very frustrating.
    Thanks

  • ITouch not recognising headphones(no volume slide bar)

hi I have an ipod touch 32GB 1st Gen running OS 3.1.3
and recently a new problem has arisen.
when my headpones are plugged in, they play very quietly and I have no option of adjusting the volume, slide bar just isn't there.
I have tried various headphones, and the ones I use with my ipod I tried on my laptop and they work fine.
this has been happening for about 2 weeks now, and sometimes after resetting my ipod (holding lock and menu button at the same time) it makes it work but very raerly, and sometimes after disconnecting and re plugging in the headphones the slide bar appears, however nearly always asoon as I stop using the ipod and then go to use it again the problem returns.
and now for past 2 days I've been unable to get the slide bar up at all.
Anyone know ways to fix it.
also if it's not possible to fix from home, would I be able to get it repaired by apple despite I do not have warranty for it (bought it second hand off ebay)
    thank you

  • ITouch not recognized by Windows, iTunes

My iTouch is functioning fine, but I can't connect it to iTunes.
I have gone through the FAQ:
    http://discussions.apple.com/ann.jspa?annID=774
but still am having no luck. I have had this iTouch syncing with previous versions of iTunes (currently I have the latest itunes - 9.??).
I uninstalled all the possible apple software components (iTunes, Quicktime, Apple mobile device, etc.) that I could. With all the software removed, I got my computer to recognize my iTouch (as an apple camera funny enough; can't do much with it though).
After I install the latest iTunes, my computer cannot recognize the iTouch. I tried all the steps in the FAQ: reinstalling the USB driver, verify apple mobile device installed as service, etc. Everything looks good. However, when I connect the iTouch to the computer, iTunes starts, but then hangs (probably b/c it XP can't recognize the device). When I unplug the iTouch, iTunes get un-hung and runs fine.
Very frustrating. Anyone had this problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

    A few weird things:
I get this message when I start up iTunes:

What is the message you get when launching iTunes?
