ITouch refuses to connect to iTunes

Hi folks,
I've run into a problem and cannot figure out a solution (nor have read one). I have a 3rd gen iTouch that works at home perfectly fine with no issues. However, on my work computer (which has windows 7 64 bit) this device will not be detected.
When I first plug it in, it says the plug and play install failed. Attempts afterward result in "usb device not recognized."
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling itunes and ALL associated iTunes software.
I've tried booting it up in safe mode. (turning iPod off, holding home and plugging it into the computer at the same time).
I've gone to the device manager and pointed the "unknown" device to the driver in the c:\programfiles\commonfiles\apple\mobiledevicesupport\drivers\usbaapl64, which did make it change to "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver"
I've tried resetting my network information on the iTouch.
I've tried taking a "screen shot" and then seeing if it can be detected.
I've tried using the front and back ports on the computer.
When I go to update driver software for the "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" and point it to the driver the error I get is "This device cannot start."
I checked the services to make sure all the apple services were started and running (and restarted them to be sure).
I'm out of ideas. I do think that the issue has something to do with the USB ports at this point because I do remember having trouble with getting an external hard drive to become recognized windows.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks!

As far as restarting the service, I tried that before this post, didn't work. Tried it again for giggles, didn't work.
And another thing to add to the list, Installed an older version of iTunes (8.1 64 bit) and still, no luck.
Also, as far as the iTouch being sensitive to different computers, how does that make sense? Do they not expect folks to upgrade their computers?
I guess at this point I may need to stop by an apple store, though I have a huge problem with paying for support for an item that comes with broken features.

  • ITouch won't connect to itunes, computer or wall charger.

    Hey,
My 2nd Gen iTouch started playing up yesterday, and wouldnt connect to itunes properly, however after a bit of fiddling and wiggling of the USB cord it was fine.
Today? Nothing. Won't even connect to my wall charger, the screen won't even light up when i plug it in. Ive tested all of the cords (we have 3) with my sisters Nano in both the computer and the wall charger, and they all work fine.
Is there something up with the actual connection in my Ipod? What can i do about it?
    thanks guys!

However it does, as i just discovered, still connect to my alpine sound system in my car... which unfortunately dosn't charge it (it charged my classic, stupid apple... *grumble grumble*). So its not a loose connection in my ipod... any ideas?

  • Hi my 32G itouch stuck on connect to itunes screen

hi....i am having issues.....a few weeks back my itouch just acted funny and 'died' i thought it was the battery and put on my dock like anyother time....well, after a time on the dock it went to the 'connect to itunes' screen....i cant get it to do anything!
when i plug it into my laptop with itunes, itunes says it detects an ipod in recovery/restore mode..... so i then have proceeded to restore.....no dice
i hit restore, it does basically all the ldownloading it needs to to, and just before it appeasrs that its going to finish, it says 'restore failed, due to connection time out"
i have tried holding it in my hands and resetting it, ive tried the sleep/home button combo and ive also tried 'hold the buttons, then plug into comp thing'....
can anyone help me?  thanks in advance

This should be easy. Disabling the computer's security software during the download and update usually resolves the time out problem.

  • HT201263 iTouch won't connect to iTunes; recovery mode won't work

My iTouch (fourth generation) was disabled after the incorrect password was input too many times. Now, it says that it needs to connect to iTunes, but when I try to connect it, it tells me to put in the password, which I obviously cannot do because the iTouch is disabled. I tried recovery mode, but it hasn't worked after repeated attempts. What do I do?

Try DFU mode and then restore

  • Itouch froze in "Connect to iTunes" symbol?

My friends were playing with my iTouch then it suddenly froze I pressed the buttons randomly then it turned white and froze there. I left it there for a few hours because I'm at school. I charged it later, after that it showed me the "Connect to iTunes" symbol. I tried connecting it to iTunes. I tried restoring it but it kept on stopping and I kept on trying to restore again and again. Please help me! I don't know what to do!!!

You need to do a DFU (Device Firmware Update) restore.
Instructions for putting your device into DFU Mode: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
Be sure your iPod is plugged in to your computer and iTunes is open before you do this.
Also, this will erase ALL of your data on your iPod.

  • My itouch can't connect to itunes

My itouch is like dead. It won't restart and now it won't connect to itunes.
    What do i do???!

    Hello there SKiOS,
I was looking into our resources to find information to help the issue you are experiencing and found what I think will be a very helpful article. It's called iPhone Troubleshooting Assistant found here: http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/#section_1
Start at step one, and work your way down if needed.
    Restart iPhone
To restart iPhone, first turn iPhone off by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider and iPhone will turn off after a few moments.
Next, turn iPhone on by pressing and holding the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Is iPhone not responding? To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If your device does not turn on or displays a red battery icon, try recharging next.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • Apple TV refuses to connect to iTunes - A solution

I'm the proud (can I still say this here ? of an AppleTV since last tuesday, but since then it has been giving me nothing but headaches and indigestion...
I pulled the AppleTV out of the box when it arrived, let it settle in on my wireless network and it seemed to be working perfectly: it could access the trailers from the internet etc. Then I started iTunes and the troubles began....
No matter what I did or tried, I just could not get AppleTV sync with iTunes for the simple fact that it just did not show up on my MacBook Pro. My frustration reached it's ultimate zenith when I switched on my Windows Vista Laptop and saw the little AppleTV icon right away in the iTunes library on my Vista PC....
Thanks for showing up AppleTV, but wrong computer I am afraid... At least I knew than the little bugger was working. After a lot of tweaking, opening ports on my wireless Netgear RangeMax Router, reinstalling iTunes, reinstalling OSX (Yes, I'm very thorough it finaly came down to the following which apparently stops AppleTV from connecting to iTunes on the MacBook:
DONOT use WPA-PSK (TKIP) encryption for your wireless network... I'm completely puzzled, but believe me, once you change this to WEP, you are there and AppleTV is recognized perfectly in the iTunes library.
I just called Apple's helpdesk and requested them to relay this story.
I hope this artcle can save someone with similar problem some time and trouble.

That is a very interesting development.
I have been having all sorts of problems with my Mac Mini and my AppleTV staying connected - I am using "WPA Personal" as the encryption on my home network with a Netgear router.
I'll try to change that to WEP when I get home and reply back tonight if it helped.
    Thanks for the troubleshooting!

  • Apple TV refuse to connect to iTunes account

    Hi,
I'm in Geneva (sorry for my poor english !).
I bought an Apple TV yesterday and I have problems to connect to my iTunes account.
The network connection is perfect, I can see films clips and I can listen radios. But when I want to rent a film, the connection to iTunes fail. I have the message "Impossible connection", the message say my apple ID or my password is incorrect.
But if I use exactly the same Apple ID and password to connect to iTunes on my MacBook, I have no problems. I have only one iTunes account and I have activated the home sharing on my MacBook with iTunes with no problems.
I try to reboot the Apple TV, I have installed it again, the problem is still the same.
    Could you advise me ?
    Many thanks
    Christophe

  • 3th gen Ipod Touch64gig refuses to connect after iTunes upgrade 11.1.3

I use a 3th Generation ipodtouch to store all my favourite music in combi with my surround system. Never had much hazzle with it.
    Connect & forget last 5-6y.
My son decided to upgrade itunes upon my mac, a few days with latest version 11.1.3(8)
On first connection after upgrade, it told that the HD was full sized, this was strange becuz there was still 10Gig available, after latest connection.
All via iTunes purchased music did download vai the iCloud, so thats ok.
But all other music upon my iTunes simply refuses to upload to the ipodTouch.
It keeps saying No connection of ipod becuz of lost connection, this happens both via cable & wifi.
Has this something todo with Apple policy & dropping older hardware?
My Mac is still using snow leo, so no Icloud support at all with that version.
    Thx 4 replies anyway.

Well, I'm almost gave up on this and already ordered a iPod classic with larger HD. But now thinking this wasnt one of the best idea's...becuz I'm almost sure Apple ordered a death warrant to older generations IPods. Now I had this idea to try if it load apps after the restore...and yes it did, so it isn't a data connections issues I got here but a simple matter of Apple poitics, and to say the least this ***.
So what I did find out so far....it don't load music, pictues and agenda it does load apps. I don't need app anymore on my iPod, I don't need a front and back camera on my iPod, i don't need facetime on my iPod...i've got a smartphone and that does all the rest.
Was thinking of buying another MAC, but now its clear that aint the right option.
(Very glad I didn't buy an iphone also)

  • The itouch says to connect to itunes when I do that, it says the divice is locked with a passcode.

Is there a way to bypass the passcode?  The itouch will not go to the screen to let us enter the passcode.  I reset the itouch and we still get the error message that itunes cannot connect to the device because it is locked with a passcode.  We need to enter the passcode intothe device to unlock it.
What can we do?  I have to believe there is a way around this without having to pay money to fix it.
    Thanks!

Place the iPOd in recovry mode and then restore via iTunes.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
BTW, this forum has a search feature so you can search for a previous discussion with your same problem.  Your problem gets posted two or three dozen times each day.
