Itouch restoring applications

Hi,
I recently got a new laptop, Acer model. I read online that it is possible to backup your itouch and then restore all of the components onto the new computer if you have 3.0 on your itouch. I do have 3.0.
I backed up my itouch on my old computer, and then continued to restore on my new computer. The restoration was 'completed' or so was said on itunes. However, the only thing that was backed up was my music. All the data including wifi passwards and preferences was NOT restored. All my applications was also NOT restored.
So my question is, what went wrong and how can I fix this process?
Thank you

The process should have been done like this:
1. Transfer your library to your new computer and get it setup in iTunes.
2. De-authorize your old computer and authorize your new computer.
3. Set syncing to manual in iTunes on the new computer
4. Plug your iPod into your new computer and then do a backup
5. Sync as normal
Backing up on your old computer really didn't do anything for you.

    1) Today Itunes prompted me to update the OS on the IPAD.

    7) It restored only music but no applications and no other information
    8) I spent all day on the phone with Apple Support who managed to get the applications restored by going through one by one and syncing.
    9) It took a few hours
    10) After I finished I noticed that files/documents associated with various applications like Kindle, Goodreader, Penultimate Notes were missing on the IPAD.
    11) I have made a few phone calls to Apple and thy claim the following: "Apple is not responsible for restoring files or data associated with any applications, only the application itself.  It is your responsibility to contact the application developer to get your files restored."  This sounds patently absurd to me. I spent half an hour explaining the absurdity of this claim to the Apple representatives but they are firm and non-wavering in this opinion.  One even claimed that restoring does not restore applications which of course is not correct.
    12) I gave them the example of MS Word on MacBook Pro. If I save/back up on another machine and then restore back to the original machine I would expect to be able to see the Word files I had created and saved.  That in particular the failure to view them would not be Microsoft's responsibility but Apple's.  They disagreed saying it would be between me and Microsoft and the Apple devices had nothign to do with saving or successful restoring.
    13) So I have lost all e-books purchased on Kindle, plus all documents saved on Goodreader application, notebooks on Penultimate applications, and my children’s drawings on their drawing applications.  Apple Support say I should contact each application vendor to try and recover the missing data.  They refuse to tell me how to get it from ITUNES backup stored on my Windows 7 machine as they say it will not be there.

Did you try restoring from a backup of the iPad? If you have a backup with all of your app data and files, that should restore all of that content to the device.
No - restoring does not restore applications. You have to either sync the applications back from iTunes on your computer, or you can download them again, BUT ... All of your data, files and device settings are stored in your backup. Do you have a backup in iTunes .... Edit>Preferences>Devices - that should show you all of your iDevice backups.

  • "Fast Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Just installed the latest thinkvantage updates and am now receiving this message repeatidly. Anyone got an idea on how to get rid of the message

     Hey, Guys
I had the same problem after installing Rescue and Recovery V4. I did some research and Fast Restore Application is UPDATEMONITOR.exe. I did a search for this program in XP and it came back as being directly attached to Rescue and Recovery. I then just uninstalled R & R which in turn got rid of UPDATEMONITOR.exe. It's unfortunate that it had to come to uninstalling the software, but doidn so solved the problem for me.

  • E72 - Can't restore applications from Ovi Store af...

    Hi,
I backed everything up, updated my E72's software and perforned a hard reset. But now, after I performed a restore, applications I bought from Ovi Store are all gone and other software is back!
    What should I do? Thanks.

    I tried that already, but I can't.

I used the "Send to mobile" option to re-download before, but it doesn't work anymore. I get the SMS, but when I open the link I'm only offered to buy the software, not download it, as if I've never bought it at all.
I've contacted Support but they don't seem to give a sh*t! As usual.

  • Restoring applications on iPhone

How I can restore applications I think are present on the iPhone backups back on my iPhone?
A sync with iTunes has removed all the application on my iPhone, leaving only some apps.
Note: I'm using TimeMachine, this can help?
    Thanks!

All apps should be available in your iTunes library on your Mac. When downloading/installing apps with your iPhone, the apps should be transferred to your iTunes library when syncing your iPhone after doing so.
Are these apps available in your iTunes library? Select Applications in your iTunes source list to confirm.
What is your selection under the Applications tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes?
Apps are not included with your iPhone's backup that is created and maintained by iTunes when syncing. 3rd party app settings and data created and stored by an app is included with your iPhone's backup.

  • Restoring Application from Time Machine

Yesterday, I downloaded XCode 4.1 from the Mac App Store. Shortly after using the installer to install XCode 4, I decided to delete the installer. I now regret this and I find that it may be useful to keep a copy of the installer around. Since Lion has the new "local snapshots" feature or something, I decided to enter Time Machine (even though I hadn't connected my drive since the installation) and sure enough a local snapshot had Install XCode.app inside. However, when trying to restore this item, I keep getting the error message:
The same message occurs when I try to add it to any other location. What is going on? I know I can download the application again but it is a really large file and I don't want to download (and wait for it to download for that matter–it took over an hour to download) another 3 GB again after downloading XCode and Lion in the same month.

    That's very strange.
You may have to download it again.

  • Restoring applications from time machine after a clean install of Mavericks.

I had recently upgraded from Mt. Lion to Mavericks from app store. But after few months I thought it was being buggy and slow. Last week after taking a complete time-machine backup I formatted the computer and clean installed Mavericks again. Now I am trying to restore just few handpicked applications one by one. Most of the apps are either not working or asking me for keys. Is there any other way to restore apps from Time Machine? Because all I see is that it just copy pastes the folder from the backup, and does not restore the prefe

If I were you, I would not restore your applications from the backup, more if you want the preferences back. Performance issues will be back and you may need to reformat the hard drive again.
Instead, the best thing you can do is to reinstall your applications manually, so you will not be transferrind files you do not need

  • Time Machine back-up, only restores application, how do I open it to retrieve the contents?

I have iWeb 3.0.3 with a large web site on it that I maintain each month - www.wworkshop.net - This has been running on a G5 Power PC Mac with 10.5.8.  The G5 has just given up the ghost, luckily - I had hoped - I have been backing up regularly with ‘The Time Machine’ onto a ‘My Passport for the Mac’.  We also have in the family a G4 Power PC Mac PowerBook with 10.5.8 on it, together with an iMac running 10.6.8.
On attempting to reinstall iWeb from the back-up, first it is not recognized by the Time Machine on the G4, it is however on the iMac, and on restoring iWeb appears to be loaded, such that the new size of iWeb on the iMac corresponds with the original - about 500MB as compared with about 30MB for the application with out the web site attached.  My problem is, that when I open the back up copy of iWeb on the iMac, the web site is not there, it only wants to start from scratch.  I also have a second back up machine that also has (an older copy) of the web site on it, with in a copy of iWeb, that did restore onto the G4, but again, the size would indicate that it contains the web site, but it also only opens to start a new one.
Question.1:  How do I get iWeb to cough up my web site, instead of trying to start a new one when I open it?
I always save to a desk top folder from iWeb when updating my web site, then from there load it up to the WWW.
Question.2: Is there any way of using the saved data in the folder to get it back into iWeb to recreate it in the application, or do I have to recreate the complete web site from scratch, all 2500+ photos and text?

When you backed up the website, you should have backed up iWeb the application, but you also needed to back up your domain.sites file - your website in iWeb is not automatically part of iWeb the application, so there is no website for iWeb to "Cough up" - it is the application only, so you need your domain file.
Your domain.sites file is located and stored under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.  This is located under your User Library and NOT your System Library and if you wanted your website back again as well as iWeb the application, then it is this file that you should have baked up.
No, there is no way to get your data back from saved published files on your desktop because iWeb does not and never has had an import facility, so it cannot open these files.  The only way is your domain.sites file and if you do not have access to these, then you are looking at re-building your site from scratch.
iWeb is no longer a supported product and has not been sold or supported by Apple for over 2 years now.
If you need to re-build your website from scratch, then do so with an application that is actually being actively developed and supported such as EverWeb.
Other alternatives are RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Epress 7, WebAcappella 4 and Flux V.
Also, your OS and your Macs generally seem to be old and at some stage you should consider updating.  You should consider purchasing an Intel Mac rather than the Power PC, because you can then update your OS to the latest - you still appear to be running Snow Leopard, which is old now and does not support all the latest technologies.  Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks and now Yosemite have gone before, so you should consider upgrading to an Intel Mac and keeping at least one Mac fully up-to-date.  If you don't do this, it just means that you cannot run the latest software on your Mac and some iPhones, if you use them are incompatible with earlier versions of iTunes.
Technology moves very fast these days and you need to ensure that you keep at least one Mac up-to-date, even if this means buying a new one - you can get re-furbished Macs at cheaper prices.
Unfortunately, as you did not back up the right things, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch, but don't use iWeb - it is not a supported product and has not been for over 2 years.  Get something newer.

  • How do I use Time Machine to restore applications to a new computer?

    Hello again
I just upgraded to a newer computer (not brand new, though: 20" imac with intel core 2 duo).
I traded in the older one and the files from it were transferred over, but not the applications.
Now, a year ago I took my tech friend's advice and used TM to back up the whole hard-drive .... so last night i used TM and navigated through Finder to see that all the applications are there in the Application folder. Tech friend said that i could just restore the Application Folder .... but this isn't an actual install .... so what other folders will i need to restore?
Or should I just restore the whole hard drive? .. if i do this, will it copy over Snow Leopard too? cause the imac only came with leopard and i just had to install snow and then it took all night to get the upgrades and install them !
Thanks for any advice and help.
    Elizabeth

I would recommend you just reinstall the applications from their original distribution discs. Some applications require files that are not installed in the Applications folder alone. You would need to know what specific ones to look for. Reinstalling a whole system or major folder from an old TM backup will surely render a malfunctioning system unless the system you would be restoring is known to work on that computer. For more on using Time Machine see:

  • Itouch downloaded applications won't run

I have an Itouch with the 2.1 operating system. I got it a month ago and everything ran fine. I downloaded several free applications on there and now suddenly, none of them work. Everything else works, its just when I try to run the applications, they start and just stop. They say they are free apps in the Apple store. My first thought was they were demo versions. I'm trying to run Paper Football Lite, Four Free, Astro Tilt, and others. Can anyone help me figure out why they won't run? Everything else runs fine.
    Thanks!

I got an iPOD touch last week and have same problem. About 7 FREE apps, and 1 Paid for now bring up the splash screen and then it goes back to main screen - they just don't run. My touch sync fine with my authorized macintosh using my valid .MAC account, etc... Also, just upgraded the touch to 2.2 and no help.
Here's the strange thing... If I download another application - anything - all the applications start working again. I can't find a rhyme or reason, but after a few days they all stop working. I download another app - and they all work!
    Anyone?

  • Restore /Applications on my Mac

Hello guys, I have a problem. I have been trying to install Packet Tracer, Ubuntu version, but there was a problem: it decided to "overwrite" everything on install (/Applications) folder. And know I haven't got any programs, except those which are in Dock, able to be ran. And that makes me feel sad. Nothing works. But, as I understand, they are just hidden, aren't they? Help me!

Will the Ubuntu version of an app work on OS X? How did you install it, exactly?
The icons in the Dock are just icons: links to the apps. The apps have to be on the disk somewhere else, usually the Applications folder. When you click on an app on the Dock, does it launch? Or not?
What is in the Applications folder now? Sometimes apps create another Applications folder in your user account. Are you sure that's not what you're looking at?
What happens if you search for the apps using Spotlight? Can you find their location that way? (Hold down command key to show path to app.)
Of course, you can always restore the Applications folder from your backup, because you have a backup. Because you don't want to lose any files.
