ITouch to iPad - Contacts/Calendar transfer should be a no-brainer; isn't

I've got an iPod Touch, which I'm very pleased with, and I bought an iPad for those times when I didn't need the portability of the iTouch and/or I wanted a bigger screen to work on. Though of course, the iPad has lots of other nice attributes.
The iTouch has my Contacts on it, and my Calendar, with lots of appointments and stuff. I figured it would be easy to sync/transfer them across to the iPad. I figured wrong
I guess Apple still think of these devices as driven off a PC with iTunes, as the early iPods had to be. But, apart from my music, this isn't the case; the Calendar and Contacts on the iPod Touch are typed in there, live there, and aren't synced with anything on the PC. I hope they are *backed up* on the PC, in case of loss, and can be restored from there; but this is all.
So I get the iPad, and I'm still reeling from the fact that it will do nothing without first being connected to a PC (although it's got wifi, even 3G in my case, and can perfectly well get apps and music independently of a PC), though I can see that a PC connection, in good time, could be useful.
Particularly to read my iTouch's backup and sync the stored data to the iPad's Contacts and Calendar. You'd think perhaps; but no go.
Contacts; needs to go via a Windows Address Book. So for the very first time, I sync the iTouch with a WAB, trembling slightly with the fear that iTunes will say 'Oh, let's copy this blank address book all over his existing Contacts'. But it didn't, and all went well.
Apart from the Contacts being sorted all wrong now on the iPad, causing my wife to declare it unusable, until I found that, miles away from the Contacts app, under the Settings app, I could change the default (First, Last) sort to (Last, First). Sheesh. What usability expert decreed that the settings for an app should be anywhere but in that app?
But the Calendar is worse. Apparently, I can only sync it via Outlook, 2003 or greater. So I've got to find a portable DVD drive, plug it in the netbook the iPad is synced with, load up Office, install Outlook on the netbook, which it's never had and doesn't need apart for this, and hope I can get the Calendar part working (or at least installed) enough for this sync, without having to pretend to Outlook that I'm going to connect it to anything.
And thank goodness I've got a free license slot on Office, so at least I don't have the buy the thing just for this - but I'm aware not everyone will have.
'All' that then remains is to sync the iTouch into Outlook, and then sync that out into the iPad.
All of this is not the straightforward user experience I might have hoped for.
Is there an easier way? Someone please tell me there's an easier way.
But I think all this points to a growing disconnect here that Apple needs to get its head around. Early iPods needed the mothership of iTunes on a PC, or they could do nothing at all. The iPod Touch, with wifi, got closer to severing the umbilical cord, but still couldn't quite manage it.
The iPad, with wifi and 3G, should be able to sever the link completely, but it can't. Yet?
And with this historical dependence on the iTunes PC mothership there seems to go the continuing presumption that the iDevice is the slave in a master/slave relationship.
This started to break down when iDevices started being able to get stuff on their own, bypassing the mothership, but I feel like I'm way ahead of Apple in thinking that my iTouch, and especially now my iPad, ought to be a lot more autonomous than they actually are.
But enough polemic. My question is Contect/Calendar transfer, as set out above;
is there an easier way?
Someone please tell me there's an easier way......

MobileMe is $99 a year, but yes, it would meet the needs of the OP very well as well as add some additional features such as iDisk, find my iDevice, mail, gallery, and bookmark syncing for safari and with iOS 4.2 on the iPad in November, it will sync notes as well...

• Transfer iPhone contacts & calendars to brand new outlook 2007

Someone gave me an iPhone 3GS as a gift, I pressed the reset button and used outlook 2007 & itunes to sync my contacts & calendars.
Everything on my iPhone is fine.
My contacts & calendars in Outlook 2007 were accidentally in wrong orders by importing a backup file in pst format(Outlook Format).
For future synchronization ,I am afraid that my iPhone contacts & calendars will be in wrong orders due to the changes in Outlook 2007.
Can I transfer my iPhone contacts & calendars to a brand new outlook 2007 (without any data & resetting my outlook 2007)?
If not,any other solutions?
The main reason of this discussion is to make my Outlook contacts & calendars in correct orders and my iPhone contacts & calendars will not be affected.
Hopefully I have a backup .pst file with correct data on my harddisk.
Hope you guys can help.
Thank you so much!

The Synchronization dons’ not affect the order of how information’s are displayed between outlook and iPhone IOS. It only affects the content of your contacts and calendars information’s.
However, if you want to synchronize to a brand new outlook (this mean new Mail profile), you should create a new mail profile to use with outlook. Always make a backup of your iPhone and outlook before you modify any settings.
To create a new profile, go to Mail setting in the Control Panel or Execute control mlcfg32.cpl from C:\Programs Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeXX from the Command Prompt to access Mail directly.
From here you can display the main profile which iTunes using to synchronize your information’s (Show Profiles… Button). This one called generally outlook, it is created automatically as you execute your outlook for the first time.
Then you have to create a new one using ADD button, as you finish choose Always use this profile then drop down the menu to select the new created profile. Apply the new setting and restart your outlook.
Now you suppose to have the new profile of outlook, this let you synchronize your information with nonfactual content.
You can go back to the old profile by choosing it as the default one from Mail setting. Be careful not to synchronize with iTunes when the default profile is set to the old one.
Remark: in the Mail setting “mlcfg32.cpl “ if you choose the following option (Prompt for a profile to be used) then every time when you open outlook it will prompt you to select the profile that you need to work within, the problem that when iTunes want to synchronize your content it can’t select arbitrary on of theses profiles and this will dysfunction, so it is preferred that you select (Always use this profile) option.

These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here, so I've asked the hosts to remove your email address, postal addresses and phone numbers from your post.
I'm not entirely sure what you are saying, but if those apps are crashing then have you tried toggling them 'off' and 'on' via Settings > iCloud ? And if that doesn't fix it then try closing them via the iPad's taskbar : from the home screen (i.e. not with any app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of each app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
You could also try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If it's a different problem ... ?

• My kids have new itouches and we put same acct as my iphone but now they have my contacts, calendar etc. How do we change acct and can we keep music

My kids have new iTouches and I have an iphone. I set up their accts same as mine to share iTunes/iCloud but now they have all my contacts, calendar, and messages go out weird from them. What should I do ?

You can share the same Apple ID for purchasng form the iTunes and app stores without any problems, but you should all used separate iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs. (You are not required to use the same ID for iCloud and other services as you do for the iTunes store.) This will prevent you from ending up with merged data. You should also use separate Apple IDs for iMessage and FaceTime or you will end up getting each other's text messages and FaceTime calls.

In the SETTINGS page, when i press MAIL,CONTACT , CALENDARS the page back to the initial page and do not open the page requested..
Any ideas?
Tks for the help

A reboot should be enough to make it work.
Just restart your computer.
Otherwise, make sure you're an administrator - as if you're not, it could be that the administrator put a restiction.

• After upgrading my ipad 2 to iOS5 I can't access mail, contacts, calendars option

Hi All,
Newbie here so please go easy!
My problem is that after upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS5 I can't access the mail, contacts, calendars option from general settings or even from the Mail program. This is therefore preventing me from setting up anymore than one e-mail account.
Do I need to do a system reset / restore? If so how do I do a system reset in particular?
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
Thanks for reply. Sorry for delay in responding, for some reason I wasn't able to respond using my iPad so am using my iPhone.
The restrictions have not been enabled at all, so I assume that this should not really make a difference. I also have an iPhone 4 and have upgraded this to iOS5 but have no issues accessing the Mail, Contacts, Calendar option from general settings. This also does not have restrictions enabled therefore appears to have the same setup as my iPad but with no problems.
Sorry once again for the delay in responding.
Many thanks

It should sync the same if the songs are the same. You can try:
- Unsyncing all music and resysncing
- Restoring the iPod
BTW, yo posted in the iPod touch forum

• How can I transfer my contacts, calendar items, notes etc. from one apple-id to another?

I moved from DK to the US and now I have created a US-apple-ID. How do I transfer all my contacts, calendar items, notes etc. from my DK-apple-ID to my new US-apple-ID?

Hey kristina rivera!
You will first want to export your contacts from iCloud using the following article:
iCloud: Export contact information as a vCard
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
You will then want to log in to her iCloud account, then import the vCard file that had been exported from your iCloud account:
iCloud: Import a vCard

Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

• My ipad has stopped syncing my calendar. Both iPhone and ipad. After going to the setting - mail, contacts, calendar my Ipad has no where under the calendar category for default calendar. How can I get my calendar to sync between iPhone and ipad???

Up until recently my calendar were syncing (between my iPhone 4 & ipad mini). They are no longer synching. I have searched and everything matches to all the resolutions, the problem is on my ipad under Calendars in the settings there is no option for "default calendar". Every other option matches to what is on my phone, just the default calendar option is missing. The default email is the same for both. Help!!!!
Thank you
Penelope190

An interesting additional symtom is that items loaded in the PC (which immedialely duplicate to the iCloud calendar on eht PC - no worries, there) do not transpose the devices (as above) but, loading an item into the phone, it goes to the PC (which is fine, too). But not to the iPad. Interestingly, there fewer calendar display options on the iPad than on the phone.
I talked to Apple a few months ago (after ISO 5) - mainly about the 6000 plus addresses that suddenly appeared in my Contacts - and his advice was do all contact and calendar actions on the PC. "icloud is still faulty"
So there we are! I must have items and reminders in my PC - it is my main work station - and need them on my devices to avoid conflicts when away from my office.

• How do you sync iCloud (contact, calendar, task) to outlook 2011 for Mac? and how do you make seemless sync between iCloud to Outlook 2011 to Blackberry device or an iPad?

I have three device: Macbook Pro (OSX 10.7.5) for work; an iPad and a Blackberry for mobile. I used mail, iCal, and Address Book combine with mobileme (iCloud) to exchange data such as contact, calendar and task from my Mackbook Pro to my iPad but never to Blackberry. The problem is my boss was asking me to change to Outlook 2011 for Mac because some of the email that I sent from Mail did not appear in my client's Blackberry. So how do you sync iCloud (contact, calendar, task) to Outlook 2011 for Mac? and how do you make seemless sync between iCloud to Outlook 2011 to Blackberry device or an iPad?

I have another kind of problem with Firefox
== Description

In migrating from an XP PC to a new Win 7 PC, I downloaded Firefox to the new PC and it worked fine - got my Gmail contacts, calendar, etc. Later I used Micros Soft's Windows Easy Transfer to move data, profiles, etc to the new PC. Then could log onto Gmail but it would not show Contacts or Calendar. I then uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it - nohelp, then I did a system to Restore to before I did the Windows Easy Transfer - no help, then I manually moved my Firefox Profile from the XP machine - no help. BTW at least one other website does not display correctly: http://www.hollandamerica.com/main/Main.action. NOTE - through all this Internet Explorer has shown these sites correctly.

• How do I upload my contacts, calendar and notes from outlook 2007 to my new iPad with retina display

I just cleaned up my outlook 2007 contact files.
I have an iPhone 5, a new iPad with retina display, and a PC, which is where the outlook program is.
I also have an iCloud account
How do I get the contacts, calendar and notes from outlook to any of these devices, so I can have one synced contact file on all three devices?
I'm sure I am not the first one asking about this but I am new to Apple, and loving it.

With your device connected and iTunes open, navigate to the 'info' tab and scroll down. You'll see the option to sync contacts and such from outlook.
