ITouch won't respond

My itouch froze last night and I can't even power it on anymore. I get the apple symbol for a few seconds and then it turns off. It does look like the apple has a line down it which i don't know if it usually does because i hardly ever turn it off. I can't get itunes to recognize it so I can restore either. It did come up earlier with a page saying restore but I needed to update the latest version of itunes and then i can't get the itunes icon on the page when trying to turn on like I did at first. I am so frustrated!! What can I do??? Please help!!!

HI,
Try This:
DFU Mode / Unable to Update or Restore
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
DFU Mode
Open iTunes and Connect the iPod to your Mac
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time
After 10 Seconds release the Sleep/Wake Button until iTunes tells you it has Detected an iPod in Recovery Mode...
The Phone Screen will remain Black... Now Restore.

  • ITouch won't respond to any commands

I was playing music and now my ITouch will not respond to any touch commands.
The "Genius Playlists" window came up telling me that it is not enabled. I click the OK, but it doesn't respond.
The same song keeps playing over and over and it will not respond to any commands.
    HELP!

All I can suggest is the standard troubleshooting steps in order. A Restart or Reset will probably fix it.
Restart your iPod: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until a red slider appears, and then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset your iPod: Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Restore your iPod: Restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • My iTouch won't respond after the latest iOS update.

After I restart and the Apple logo appears, it shows to plug into iTunes.  However, when I do that all I get is the dialog window stating Contacting the iPhone update server.  Then iTunes says it won't connect.  Any other suggestions?

Thank you but that doesn't work.  The dialog box saying iPhone in recovery mode, keeps popping up.  I am stuck in a loop. Any other suggestions?  I also tried to get it to go to DFU mode holding power and home buttons but that didn't work either.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • I touch won't respond to anything!! help!!

I recently updated my Itouch with iOS 5.1.1 update.  For about an hour after I did this update,my itouch was frozen on a screen with the apple and a loading bar that wasnt moving.  Then, my itouch "restarted" by itself and froze on a white screen.  I tried restarting it myself, and it restarted, but again froze on the white screen.  I have done this at least 12 times.  Now it won't respond to anything, even when i hook it up to my computer, the computer is not recognizing the connection.  My itouch was working absolutely wonderful before the update, i have not dropped it, or gotten it wet, and it is only a few months old, (January 2012).  I haven"t had any issues with it before now.  If anyone else has had a similar problem or has any suggestions, i'm willing to try anything.  thank you!!

Look her and it may give insite on what is missing. Otherwise:

  • ITunes won't open and when it does it won't respond

No error message appears when it won't start - if I try to end the process in task manager, iTunes will open but it won't respond. It'll just have the loading cursor whenever I mouse over iTunes. I've tried opening in Safe Mode and that's worked before but now it still won't respond. I've uninstalled and reinstalled it too.

sounds like you got a bad copy uninstall it and download a new one from itunes.com

  • Bottom of my ipod screen won't respond, so i reset factory settings as suggested, it didn't help and now i can't log in to itunes as my apple id password has numbers in it

few issues here. firstly, the bottom section of my ipod touch 4th gen won't respond. it'll let me slide to unlock but not tap anything, including to change between keyboards which brings me onto my second problem. i did a factory reset because a few people on here had suggested it, but now i can't log into my apple account because my password has numbers in. is there a way to bypass this requirement? or fix my ipod? i can't afford a replacement

jeez guys thanks for the help!

  • HT1476 I can't tell if my ipod touch 3rd gen is really charging. I have it plugged in, but it will sometimes show the charging icon and then it won't respond to anything. I ddon't know if you need itunes to be on your computer to charge it.

Ok, so I plug in my touch 3rd gen and I can't tell if it is really charging. It doesn't seem like it is. I can only see the charging icon sometimes, and then after the icon goes away, the ipod won't respond! I'm not sure what to do. Than I thought the USB port was messed up because it doesn't always work, but I plugged it into a diferent port and it said on the ipod, charging isn't supported with this accessory.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

QuickTime X wouldn't have given the error message if it could have opened the file.

  • My ipod touch won't respond. Shortly after I downloaded IOS 8, it quite responding. How can I get my pictures recovered?

My ipod touch won't respond. Shortly after I downloaded IOS 8, it quite responding. All I get is the Apple sign.  I connected to my computer and tried updating and was able to download the USB connection for the device but received an error when it tried to update the ipod. Is there any way to retrieve my pictures from the device before I try to recover? At this point my pictures are more valuable to me than restoring the device.  How can I get my pictures recovered?
Now it looks like I have the Apple with an line under it on the screen, but still not responsive.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • 1st Generation iPod Touch (8GB) won't respond.

    Hi,
I have a 1st Generation iPod Touch (8GB) and it won't respond to anything.  I tried restoring and resetting and charging.  When I plug the iPod into my Mac (10.2 Macbook Pro) the iTunes (which is very up-to-date) won't even recgonize it.  My computer doesn't even recognize it as a storage unit.  I tried all of the USB ports and multiple cables but stil, nothing is happening.  I can't even get the screen to turn on and display the apple.
What should I do? Is the battery dead or is my iPod completely dead?
    Thanks!
