Its Here!!

Question

My iMac arrived this morning and its more beautiful than i could ever have imagined! Now i know why the phrase "once you go mac, you never go back" was coined!
(im even talking with exclamation marks)
so far, havent had any problems (except when trying to watch a shared movie over the network through Front Row, whereupon i had a tiny panic attack when the screen went completely blank for a few minutes then came back, then iTunes had frozen, so had to force quit).
ive ran the Software Update, is there anything else i should be aware of?

Here are some things I shared with another new user, maybe they will be helpful to you;
"I don't know that there is anything that you need to check necessarily. Set up the computer and work your way through the Setup Assistant. The Assistant will walk you through setting up your User Account, as well as setting up your internet connection (so you will want to have your internet account info available.)
"After you're connected to the internet you may wish to open Software Update and get everything that came pre-installed up to date. In System Profiler you may wish to check Hardware>Boot ROM Version to see if you need to install the Firmware update. The newest firmware is: IM41.0055.B03. If that isn't what you have go to; http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ and download Firmware Update 1.0.1 for the iMac (early 2006). Read the instructions well and be comfortable with the steps before you do it. Just to be on the safe side, disconnect everything from your Mac, but the USB keyboard and mouse before installing the firmware update. Don't have any discs in the Superdrive.
"Also, there is a small box with your mouse and Remote Control, under the packaging you will find your Install DVDs! Many folks don't find those when they unpack the Mac!!
"When you finish you may wish to Repair Permissions and Optimize to get everything in tip-top shape from the start! My favorite free software for that is OnyX, found here; http://www.titanium.free.fr/
"You can also free up a few gigs of hard drive by removing all the languages that you don't speak with Monolingual, found here;

"Just to add to David's list of things - particularly regarding freeing up HD space - you can also go into HD/Library/printers and remove all the unnecessary (and huge) printer drivers that aren't needed."
And Glorfindeal adds;
"When I get a new computer I like to run the hardware test on it immediately. I also will run the memory test in extended mode and I like to run it a number of times just as a burn in procedure. I wish the hardware test supported looping the test multiple times. It would make the burn in process easier... Burn in is normally a procedure to test the hardware under high load to make sure there are no failures. The PC (windows) have a number of programs that allow you to burn them in (probably because they need it more than the mac . There are very few tools on the mac side to burn it in. The hardware test does allow you to test all the hardware, including the memory to verify that the hardware is operating correctly. I like to run it a number of times to stress it a bit to make sure there are no intermittent failures. If you don't know how to run the hardware test, just put the install dvd disk 1 into the computer and restart holding the 'H' key. This will boot you into the hardware test."
