ITS Performance and Scalability

Hi,
Can someone point me to documentation or comment on issues related to ITS performance, stability and error-free performance in a production environment.
This is with regard to both the standalone ITS 6.20, and the embedded ITS with WAS 6.40
Thanks.

  • Need the most performance and scalable way to "trigger" JavaEE application

    Hi,
Need the most performance and scalable way to "trigger" JavaEE application code running on WLS from PLSQL code.
There are some thirdparty JavaEE application running on WLS that we need to invoke from PLSQL code. I have looked at couple of options:
    Option 1)
Use oracle db callouts(http call etc.) but it seems the connection to WLS will not be maintained across database-sessions and so every call from different plsql database-session will make fresh TCP/IP connection. Usually fresh socket connection setup is expensive and can become a bottleneck.
    Option 2)
Use AQ in the database from PLSQL and have a MDB in WLS to invoke the java code. The problem here is how do I simulate the Request/Reply pattern using the AQ API from PLSQL. The PLSQL code needs to wait until the JavaEE code completes as it needs some result back from JavaEE app. AQ also does not have true temporary queues so I am not sure how it will work with concurrent user/sessions.
    Option 3)
Use Java in the database, we have tried this but for our usecase it is too expensive resource wise and is not meeting our performance needs.
Performance is the triggering mechanism is of highest interest to us.
    Any suggestions/pointers is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,

Perhaps you would benefit from viewing the problem differently.
In some/many/most cases the application server (WLS) invokes procedure residing in the DB server.
Place the control for the desired results in the application code running on the WLS.

If you can wait about a 3 months after 10.8 is released this summer and upon new hardware you should be in excellent shape to have not only a fastest latest machine, but a OS X version that all the bugs have been worked out. Plus the three free months of Apple hand holding while they figure out what they did wrong with the new OS version.
If you need a new machine now you'll have to get what you need obviously, but 10.8 should run on it just fine. However know that Apple tweaks things with more currently sellling hardware first, then later gets to the previous released models.
It's been my guestimation that your good for about two year old hardware with very recent OS X release, three years or older hardware you may want to reconsider sticking with the previous OS X version as your hardware is getting dated and likely has only a year left to go anyway (4 year average), so why bother mucking it up, slowing it down and having to buy all new/updated software and third party hardware because they won't make drivers for your new OS version?

  • Does running windows on MBA affect its hardware and performance??

    Specs: OS X 10.9.3, 1.4 GHz 4th gen i5, 4 GB RAM, 1600 MHz DDR3, intel HD Graphics 5000, 128 GB.
I want windows on my mac to use windows compatible apps like AutoCad, ProE etc and for games.. I'm worried about its hardware and performance after installing windows..

You can run Windows either natively using BootCamp or in virtualization using a third party program like Parallels Desktop. It won’t harm the computer to run Windows but while Apple promises really good battery life with MBA you aren’t going to get that kind of battery life with Windows, at least not with Win 7 or earlier. I couldn’t tolerate Win8 so I can’t tell you if Microsoft has done a better job with battery life management or not. Lots of my Windows using friends and colleagues refer to their MBA as the best Windows notebook they’ve ever owned but like me, they don’t use 8.

I don't know who you would contact at Verizon to verify this, but I suspect you are in the same situation as me.  My unlimited Jetpack is now being throttled to a basically useless speed of .10Mbps.  Sometimes as low as .04Mbps.  Turns out this is done purposely as they are evidently eliminating unlimited.  They're doing this now even though accounts still display on the my device page as unlimited.  They have given no warning, no explanation and started it in the middle of a billing cycle.  At least for me.  Be prepared to pay about double for 20GB with I think and $8 per gig overage cost.  With the 5GB plan it appears they just throttle down to an unusable speed.  Currently considering saying goodbye to Verizon myself.  Even with some need to change plans and eliminate unlimited this isn't the way to treat customers during the change.

solutions offers a comprehensive platform for achieving 24x7 application
availability, enhanced performance and better control of IT resources.

First of all you should check out which products are supported on 64bit :- http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/bi/hyperion-supported-platforms.html
If you are planning on using windows 64bit EAS then you will have to manually deploy the web application, it cannot be automatically deployed.

  • Can the 128 GB SSD part of a fusion drive be replaced with a 960 GB SSD dive for greater performance and added storage?

Can the 128 GB SSD part of a fusion drive be replaced with a 960 GB SSD dive for greater performance and added storage in a 2012 mac mini?

First, I suspect Apple fine tuned its choice of SSD size for the Fusion drive based on the best performance/price ratio. I'd be surprised if a larger SSD provided any improvement that would justify the added price of a larger SSD.
Second, if I could justify the cost of a 960 SSD drive I wouldn't bother with a Fusion drive!

  • ADF business components and scalability ?

    Hello,
I am new to the ADF Framework, I come from an open source background.
I have a limitation to use Oracle technologies for an internet banking design.
My concern is the large number of users accessing the system and how we scale up through clustering.
Do you recommend ADF business components for this application, can ADF be simple POJOs handlers or EJB 3.0 session facades ? if that is the case, would you recommend EJB 3.0 for clustering and scalability for an internet banking system.
    Any guidance is appreciated.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply, I will read the document, however,
If I try to compare ADF to other frameworks, creating BCms as POJOs would take advantage of the Apache clustering(web tier, same as Tomcat clustering in Jboss), there is no need for OC4J services of the 10gAS, on the other hand, if I go with EJB3 stateless session beans BCms then i would need 10g OC4J container and its clustering capability(AS clustering).
Your time is appreciated and please respond only if you time, i will go through the doc.

  • SQL/XML performance and xdbcore-parameter

    Hello,
I try to figure out, what the best method to retrieve large XML-Documents is.
I compare performance and resources needed for: SQL/XML, DBMS_XMLGEN, SYS_XMLGEN and XSU.
With a fixed set of 1000 rows I created XML of about 32 MB.
I am on 10.2.0.4 on Linux
    XML is not schema based.

    Connected to:
Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition Release 10.2.0.4.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, Data Mining and Real Application Testing optionsWhat I see, is that SQL/XML is the slowest and needs huge PGA amount (160 Mb and seems to increase linearly, for 5000 rows I've measured ~800 Mb).
As I've read here, memory issues with SQL/XML should have been solved in 9.2.0.3 (?)
Is this the case? Or is this PGA amount ok?
I would like also to test the impact of xdbcore-xobmem-bound and xdbcore-loadableunit-size parameters.
But I cannot observe any impact. Must I restart the database everytime after change of xdbconfig.xml?
But also after increasing from 1024 16 to resp. 10240 5120 and restart the same speed and memory consumption are in place.
    Am I doing something wrong?

  • Performance and security trade-off

    h1. Scenario
When I run my code without implementing security its performance decreases from 40% to 70% .
My goals is to decide: do I really need any trade-off (speed vs security)? in either case I must provide arguments
Any kind of advice will be appreciated. I just need professional's view about the above scenario
    Thank you

    Hey Aasem,
As such, there is no thumb-rule for this trade off concept. It all depends on the type of database and its security. It may happen that you have to secure the data more than the performance; e.g. banking, insurance, stock market secotrs. In these sectors, the on-line transactions are required, but the data security is more important than the performance. So, here you may have to cmpromise with the performance.
But if you take an example of an live score of a cricket match, then the data security is not that much important rather the performance counts more. so, here you can compromise the security of the data with the database performance.
But, my point is that as a dba, you have to always consider the security of the data more than the performance. And the calculation what you are talking of is not of a fixed manner. It varies as per the requirement and need. And there is no thumb rule for this. It is only your experience which will help you to find out the measurement of everything what you are asking for.
    Thanks and Regards,
    MSORA

Can anybody recommend any useful performance and tuning books.
I should probably limit my search to 11g or higher.
I am starting to prep for the 12c perf and tuning beta I have scheduled on March 21st.

    Hi,
    I will review your review.
I do see this Oracle 12c book at Amazon written over a year ago.
    Its not a certificaiton book.
I also did take the course at Oracle for 11g performance and tuning.

  • Is it possible to start one counter on the rising edge of its gate and the second counter on the falling edge of the gate of the first counter?

    Hello,
for my application I want to perform a buffered semi-period measurement with three counters.
Therefore the first one have to start on a rising edge of its GATE and stop on the next rising edge. This is not a problem.
But the second one should start on the falling edge (that immediately follows the rising edge) of counter 1 and stop the same time counter 1 will do.
The third one should start after the falling edge of counter 2.
    Is this actually possible?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards Thomas

I think I may be a bit confused on exactly what you are trying to accomplish, so if my answer does not
    help, I apologize.
Anyways, the way to do it (from what I gather) is to set the gate of the third counter to start on the falling edge of counter 1 and start on the next falling edge of counter 1.
A little more clarity in how the counters are intended to start/stop may be helpful in getting a better answer.

  • Final Cut Pro performance and license use.

    Hi,
I'm new to this discussion forum and I have a few questions. Hopefully this is the right thread. I was unsure whether I should have broken the questions into two threads. Nevertheless:
    1) I'm planning on getting a MacBook Pro and know that performance wise it is still below a Mac Pro. Does Final Cut Studio 2, and its applications, mainly FCP run fairly well on a MBP?
    2) I also plan to get Final Cut Studio 2. My dad already has a MBP (early 09 one) and I want to run FCS2 on it first before I get my MBP. I know Apple has the EULA where I can only install FCS2 on one desktop and one laptop. If I get my MBP, can I remove FCS2 from my dads laptop and install it again on my new MBP?
I'm just lost regarding MBP's performance and FCS2's installation.
    Thanks a lot.

I used FCP on my macbook pro, I had 4 GB of RAM and intel core duo 2.6, and it was sluggish like crazy, not to mention the render times for effects. If you can, I highly recommend getting a Mac Pro. Whatever you choose to do, you can simply migrate all of your applications with the migration tool and it will install it on your new computer with your already in use serial number, and then you can uninstall it on your current computer.
