ITS. URL iView. No service name specified

Hello,
We've created an URL iView. When previsualizating it works ok, but when executing time we get the following error:
"No service name specified. Your request did not contain a service name. Please provide a service name as part of the URL. Session already terminated." In some pc it works ok. It could be a problem of java or internet explorer version?

If you are using the internal ITS the URL should be something like:
http://hostname:port/sap/bc/gui/sap/its/webgui
In the above example the service is "webgui". You can then go to transaction SICF and expand tree based on the URL:
default_host > sap > bc > gui > sap > its
and find the webgui node. If it exists then it is a valid service, you can also right click on it to test it to make sure that it is working.

Tns error ora-12162 net service name is incorrectly specified

Hello gurus ,
I am trying to connect database using telnet from windows machine ,
after login os , username ,password
i got $ prompt , after that i have given sqlplus command , then I have enter username,pwd correctly ,but I am unable to connect its giving error " Net service name is incorrectly specified ,
I have checked my tnsnames.ora file at the database system , i find all the entries are correct
plzzz can anybody help me .. how to connect database via telnet

when you start sqlplus ... is that on the same machine that is running the db, or some other machine? Remember .. (and I'm really feeling like a broken record on this one) TNSNAMES.ORA IS USED BY THE CLIENT PROCESS.
Show us the contents of your listener.ora file -- from the server machine
Show us the contents of your tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files -- from the client machine.

IView for Service Contract

Hi all,
I have a Stanalone ITS Server and Portal , I have to pull 3 Service Contract Transactions to Portal thru ITS , Would anyone suggest me the best option to go either with Transactional iView or IAC iView
I have already configured IAC , Not Sure which services to publish in ITS for this transactions.
Would appreciate all your help.

EM doesn't allow creation of tnsnames.ora entry with service name orcl11gr2

Dear all,
I'm trying to create a net service name with EM Database Control, via Net Services Administration link. On the service name field, under the 'Edit Net Service Name' screen, I key in orcl11gr2, and it throws the the following error:
Validation Error
Examine and correct the following errors, then retry the operation:
Service Name - Specify a valid service name.
I wonder what is the extra validation that EM is checking. I assume it's checking the number of characters to be 8 characters or less.
Also, because of this extra validation that is in EM, all tnsnames.ora entry that have service name = orcl11gr2, I will not be able to use EM to modify them, as I will get the same above error.
But why does Oracle implements this extra validation, when the same validation is not implemented on other Oracle tools? For instance:
1. dbca allows me to create a database with instance_name greater than 8 characters, and the outcome of initialization parameters will be as follow:
db_name=orcl11gr -- truncated to 8 characters
instance_name=orcl11gr2
db_unique_name=orcl11gr2
service_names=orcl11gr2
2. Oracle Net Manager supports service name of orcl11gr2. The created Net Service Name, I have no problem connecting to the database.
3. Listener support orcl11gr2 service name
I'm using Oracle 11g R2 (11.2.0.1.0) for Microsoft Windows (x64), running on Windows 7.

but I don't have domain name. I installed Oracle on a standalone machine for testing purposes.Do I need to be on a network using HTML DB??

ORA-12154 TNS Could not resolve the service name

I am working on Oracle 9i(Release 2) windows version. I want to change the value of
shared pool size, buffer size and others database parameter through "Enterprise Manager Console" but
when i connect to sysdba mode message comes "ORA-12154 TNS Could not resolve the service name".
How can I solve this problem?

 TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor
Cause: The listener received a request to establish a connection to a database or other service. The connect descriptor received by the listener specified a service name for a service (usually a database service) that either has not yet dynamically registered with the listener or has not been statically configured for the listener. This may be a temporary condition such as after the listener has started, but before the database instance has registered with the listener.
Action:
- Wait a moment and try to connect a second time.
- Check which services are currently known by the listener by executing: lsnrctl services <listener name>
- Check that the SERVICE_NAME parameter in the connect descriptor of the net service name used specifies a service known by the listener.
- If an easy connect naming connect identifier was used, check that the service name specified is a service known by the listener.
- Check for an event in the listener.log file.

Webservices remove service name and port from the URL

Hi community,
so I have a server PC called "superlab"(*) and I also have a webservice called "superlab"(*). Now the users need to enter superlab:8001/superlab to the browser to access the service. I'd like them simply enter superlab.
So my questions:
1. how can I remove the service name from the URL
2. how can I remove the port number from the URL
3. (not related but I have difficulty to understand what it the point in "publishing" a webservice while simply starting it does the job as well)

Then, as inolau's notice, create logon screen (or use the default one) and force the users to logon at runtime. Do not pass username/password as parameters.

True that if the connection is specified in the config it will be the same for everyone. However, every case is different. For example one of our apps gets S3 credentials (from non-Oracle S3) as session parameters. It uses this common db connection to validate some stuff with the database, read security definitions and then it re-connects the forms using the credentials.

How to set dynamic host name in the URL of a URL iView?

Hello,
I am using a standard URL iView that points to some J2EE app I've written and deployed on the same server.
I would like to set the host name to be a dynamic one, this way I won't need to change the iView URL when transporting it from one portal to another. As far as I know the system for a URL iView only controls authorizations but cannot replace the full URL set in the iView.
Any idea who can this be achieved?

Hi Mrityunjay,
forced URL at runtime will require me to call the URL iView from another iView that I will need to code (setting the URL in the Request object). If I did all this I might as well call it from this iView already.
I would like to do it with no further developments. I would have thought that SAP has constants that can be plugged in the URL for this type of thing, i.e. $hostname...

Hi,
We have a cluster with 2 nodes. Everything works fine in Node1. When I try to failover TEST1 database to Node-2 it fails with this message.
Generic service 'Analysis Services (TEST1)' could not be brought online (with error '1060') during an attempt to open the service. Possible causes include: the service is either not installed or the specified service name is invalid.
Any help is much appreciated.

Hello,
The error message is pretty straight forward, it's saying either the service isn't installed or it's not installed as the same service on that node. Did you install analysis services on the second node (from the error it seems like it isn't)?

I am adding third node in oracle 11gr2 on rhel.i have successfully configureg grid and oracle but while adding an instance using dbca i am getting an error "service name or instance name is not specified".I have already expot ORACLE_SID=dev but still getting an error,can anybody suggest me on the same...

OSX SQLPLUS error:ORA-12162:TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified

Dear oracle community,
just stepped today into oracle world.
Installed OracleXE on my remote UBUNTU server.
From the server, sqlplus works perfectly.
From my client (followed this tutorial http://www.danilovizzarro.it/?p=10 ), i can connect via the
sqlplus connection string: #sqlplus hr/PASS@HOSTipADDRESS/XE .
But when i try just sqlplus and enter username/password later on, i get
ORA-12162:TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified .
My config:

If I understand you correctly you only give userid and password,but no connect string. That would be a LOCAL connection,which will not work,because you issue the command on the client,not the database server. For local connections you have to specify a value for ORACLE_SID. If you do that on your client (doesn't make sense , because you don't have a database here), you should see a message like 'Oracle not available'. If ORACLE_SID is not defined you get ORA-12162,which is a little misleading.

Cause: The connect descriptor corresponding to the net service name in TNSNAMES.ORA or in the directory server (Oracle Internet Directory) is incorrectly specified.
Action: If using local naming make sure there are no syntax errors in the corresponding connect descriptor in the TNSNAMES.ORA file. If using directory naming check the information provided through the administration used for directory naming.

Once you have defined the iViews URL to the targeted Web page, you may need to configure parameters that are passed to the information source as part of the URL. In the URL iView Editor, you can do the following to URL parameters:
·        Add, remove, and modify URL parameters
·        Determine whether or not portal end user can view and personalize URL parameters at runtime
·        Assign intuitive display names to URL parameters that are viewed or personalizable by portal end users
·        Specify the URL request method (GET or POST)
If you navigated to the targeted Web page and defined the iView URL using the portal built-in browser, the URL parameters and request method may already been defined in the URL iView Editor.
Procedure
       1.      Open the iView in the URL iView Editor.
The editor does not display URL-specific parameters in the URL address within the URL box. URL parameters that were part of the URL referencing the selected Web page (the information source) are automatically removed from the source URL and displayed in the URL parameter list in the editor. At runtime, the portal automatically appends the URL and the listed parameters to the targeted URL request.
       2.      In the Request Method option, choose either GET or POST to specify the request method. The request method indicates how the browser sends information to the information source:
Request Method
Description
GET
This request method appends parameters to the URL when the data request is sent to the information source. The server receives the data in one long query string, which typically limits the length of parameters that can be passed.
For example, a URL using the GET request method would be: http://www.google.com/search.asp?&querystring=SAP where querystring indicates the parameter identifier and SAP is the parameter value.
POST
This request method sends parameters for the URL in the header of the data request stream; parameters are not appended to the URL. This allows for long parameters to be passed to a script and parsed one element at a time.
For example, a URL using the POST request method would be: http://www.google.com/search.asp.
POST is only supported when the Fetch Method property defined in the iView is set to Server-side. For more information, see URL iView Properties.
For iViews that have a mixture of parameters sent by GET and POST together, you must:
§         Choose POST as the request method.
§         Set the Fetch Mode property to Server-side
§         Append the GET_EXPLICIT_ prefix to the parameter identifier of each parameter that is sent by GET. For example, a parameter defined as searchstring should be defined as GET_EXPLICIT_searchstring. When the iView sends a data request, the prefix is removed from the parameter identifier at runtime. Parameters sent by POST do not require a special prefix.
       3.      To add a parameter, click Add below the table. A new entry is added to the parameter list.
To remove a parameter, select the checkbox of the relevant parameter in the list and click Remove. Before doing so make sure the parameter is not required by the information source.
       4.      Define the attributes of existing or new parameters, as follows:

Description
URL Parameter
Specifies the parameter identifier as recognized by the information source. For example, in the URL http://www.google.com/search.asp?&querystring=SAP, the parameter identifier is querystring.
As stated above, parameters that need to be sent by GET when the request method is defined as POST, must have the GET_EXPLICIT_ prefix. For example: GET_EXPLICIT_searchstring.
Enter special characters that are present in the parameter identifier as is. Do not convert them to ASCII code. For example, enter first name, and not first%20name. At runtime, the portal will encode special characters to ASCII when fetching the iView data.
Value
Specifies the value of the parameter. This is not mandatory.
If you set the parameter as a variable that can be personalizable by end users (see following attribute), then this value will be the parameters default value. However, if you set the parameter as not personalizable, then this value is the fixed value of the parameter.
Enter special characters present in the parameter value as is. Do not convert them to ASCII code.
Type
Specifies the data type of the parameter.
Choose one of the following options:
·        String: Apply this option for all data types whose property is not a mapped user name or password; for example, an integer or string.
·        Mapped User: Apply this option when the URL parameter designates a user name that is required to authenticate the user with the information source at runtime.
·        Mapped Password: Apply this option when the URL parameter designates a password that is required to authenticate the user with the information source at runtime.
§         When Mapped User and Mapped Password are selected, the Value and Personalize attributes cannot be edited.
§         If you want to enable user mapping for the user name and password parameters, in the System drop down-down list, choose an appropriate system already defined in the portal, which contains the necessary settings. See Selecting a System.
Personalize
Specifies whether or not portal end users can view the parameter and its assigned value if they personalize the iView at runtime. This attribute also allows you to determine whether or not end users can personalize the parameter value.
Choose one of the following options:
·        Hidden: The end user does not see the parameter and its value. This is the default setting.
·        Read / Write: The end user sees the parameter and is able to modify its value.
·        Read Only: The end user sees the parameter and the fixed value assigned to it. The end user cannot modify the parameter value.
Name
Specifies an intuitive display name for the parameter identifier. If you set the parameter to be viewable by end users at runtime, this name is displayed instead of the parameter identifier, which is often abbreviated and unintuitive.
This attribute is available only if Read / Write or Read Only is selected in the Personalize attribute. If you do not specify a name, the Personalize attribute will be reverted to Hidden.

You have a search portal for SAP Notes which will tell you more about it.
You would a S-user id to logon to the OSS Notes. The S-user id is basically based on the installation number of your SAP system. You can get the user id from your BASIS. Once you get this then logon to this link:

oss note is a document provided by SAP that described particular issue, usually with symptom, cause(the reason), solution provided, and some other info (correction instruction and code).
oss note has version, date issued, and categorized to application area (e.g BW, CRM, etc).
in practice, when error occured, normally there will be error number and message, that can be used to search oss note which in return may provide possible solutioon. some problem will have short dump, and in the dump, there is suggestion to search oss note with using keywords specified(program name, module name, etc.)
