ITtunes won't delete music

I decided I didn't want a few of my songs but when I delete them from iTunes, they won't erase from my iPod! I don't know what to do!

Restore your phone or uncheck "sync music" and sync your phone, then select the music you want on your phone and sync your phone again.

  • ITunes won't delete music files from default external hard drive . . . what to do?!

I really don't want to manually delete 6 GB of stuff that's not in my library but still in the music folder. Yes . . . the external hard drive is listed as the default music location. THANK YOU!

Hmm, perhaps it wasn't when you deleted the files, or there is a permissions issue. Test by adding back a known redundant file, then deleting from iTunes. Does it get deleted from the hard drive? If so, great add back the entire media folder, then delete everything added today. If not...
Right-click on your main media folder and click Properties, then go to the Security tab and click Advanced. If necessary grant your account and system full control to this folder, subfolders and files, then tick the option to replace permissions on child objects which will repair permissions throughout the library. This is the XP dialog but Windows 7 shouldn't be too different.
    Now try again...
I also have a script called KillSelectedFiles which is useful when the source files are located outside of the designated iTunes Media folder but In your case it shouldn't be necessary.

i have switched the sim card from one iphone to a different one, and i added my music from my old phone to the used one, now the old music on the used phone won't delete. im really frustrated and annoyed please help

Do you just want to delete the music or wipe the whole phone since you've switched to the other one?
If you plug the old iPhone into your computer you can remove stuff via iTunes or remove stuff directly from the iPhone too.

  • My iPhone 5 ios7, won't sync music with itunes 11.1.2.32

My iPhone 5 ios7.0.3, won't sync music with itunes 11.1.2.32.
The Sync starts and finsihes but no changes are made to the content on the iphone. No files transfer. Tried both wifi and cable sync.

Sorry, but this doesn't work either.  Thank you for the response though.
I originally tried the Manually Manage Music and Videos and even though I selected what I wanted to copy and then clicked the Sync button.....nothing gets copied over.   I then tried copying over my entire library (and I expected the phone to explode since my library is HUGE) and clicked the Sync button....nothing got copied over.
I have uninstalled iTunes, reinstalled iTunes (and lost half my library thank you Apple).
I have deleted my iPhone backup.
I have updated my iTunes (not that there were any new updates).
I have updated my iPhone (not that there were any new updates).
I have changed and tested every single setting, every which way possible and NOTHING works.
I can sync movies, pictures, apps - no problem whatsoever.  But music?  Forget it.
I hate the iPhone and I won't recommend it to ANYONE.  All I wanted was an all-in-one device to make my life easier and this is NOT IT!  This should not be this hard and as far as I'm concerned, Apple failed BIG TIME.

  • ITunes under Vista won't delete my songs

    Hey guys.
I've recently updated to Windows Vista, and I'm running iTunes 7.3 with an iPod Nano.
Previously on my XP machine (with some ancient iTunes, 7.1 maybe?) I was able to select a track in my library, and either hit the Delete key or right-click and select the Delete option. This would spawn a dialogue - do I want to keep the files, or move to recycle bin (or cancel)?
Now under iTunes, when I delete a file, that dialogue is not there anymore, and deleting a file only removes it from the library view, rather than from my hard drive.
As an added piece of information, I was able to upgrade a purchased song to iTunes Plus. When you do this, there's a dialogue of similar nature offering to move the old file to the recycle bin or to keep it. This dialogue appears, but when selecting recycle it does no such thing
It's worth noting that all my music is in my iTunes Music folder, not anywhere else. I understand there can be a problem where if your music is not stored with iTunes, it won't delete the files. I don't believe this applies to my situation.
I only really noticed this by happenstance, and now I have my music collection full of tracks I don't want anymore, but no effective way of getting them back in. Why is this?
Well, that's peculiar thing #2. Previously I used to be able to just re-add my iTunes music folder, and iTunes would helpfully trawl through and add music in, ignoring tracks that already exist. It no longer does this - you can add the folder, but it creates a duplicate for each song that already exists. These duplicates are unrated with no previous play information - it's as if iTunes doesn't agree that they're the same track.
I'm wondering if these problems are related - if iTunes in some way is able to play my previous library just fine, manage ratings and so on, but is in some way confused about whether they're actually in the iTunes folder. XP and Vista have different file paths (C:\Documents and Settings\ in XP, C:\Users\ in Vista)... would this have something to do with it? I suspect that there's a Junction (like a hard link, but in Windows) in place to redirect C:\Documents and Settings\ to C:\Users\, but this behaviour is not unversally supported cleanly.
Is there a way of editing my library details to include the correct pathname if that's the problem?
Man, sorry about the long post But it's really bugging me, and obviously I don't want to have to re-add and re-rate 22 days of music...

Ok I think I fixed it
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313 describes that you can gank the binary file, and re-import using the XML document.
The trick is of course to:
    1. Close iTunes
    2. Gank the binary file
    3. Search and replace the music locations in the XML
    4. Start iTunes
    5. Import the XML file
This works, but there are some caveats (need to resynch the iPod, etc.). But yay, my files are once again being deleted.

  • How can I delete music off my iphone 5 that was a "purchased" item, and it isn't in my itunes on my computer?

I accidentally downloaded a free song from Starbucks months ago, and now I can't get it off my phone. It won't show up when I manually delete music, either on my computer or when I try the swipe method on my phone. It's just there.
There's two songs, actually, and I want them both gone. Turning off my cloud connection didn't change it because they are downloaded onto my phone and won't leave! I just want them gone, because it's a nuisance and I don't even like them. I have a PC, so no tricky Mac tricks will work for me. Please help! Is this some glitch in the software or something?

    Hello kerrisapatricia,
It sounds like you have a couple of songs you want to delete from your iPhone. This article should help with that:
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5772
    To delete a song:
    Tap the Music app.
    Tap the Songs category.
Swipe left to right over the song you want to delete.
    Tap Delete.
If you see a cloud icon next to them right now, or after you delete them you can hide them by turning off Show all Music in your settings here:
    Tap Settings > Music

  • ITunes keeps restoring deleted songs/won't delete songs

I just realized that I posted this question accidentally in the iTunes for Mac forum so I figured I'd ask here since I'm actually a PC user.
I tried absolutely every suggestion in this thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/17046601#17046601) and nothing is working for me.
I'm in the main music library, not a playlist.  The files are not read-only.
I've tried deleting the files every which way I can think of.  I've tried deleting them in both iTunes and Windows explorer.  Every time I do, they always temporarily show up as being deleted from iTunes but then they just magically come right back the next time I restart iTunes or sync my iPhone.
I can delete all of my songs except for these five (which I legitimately purchased from the iTunes store).
I think it's a problem with permissions.  I'm the administrator and yet I've tried editing the permission on the files. When I do, it shows that I have indeed edited the permission on the files giving all users (including myself) the right to delete these five annoying files that won't delete.  But then as soon as I do that and then try deleting them in iTunes or via windows explorer (even if I empty the recycle bin, it doesn't matter) the files just pop right back up in iTunes and Windows Explorer and revert back to their original permission state.
I've even tried renaming the files and then deleting them and then emptying my recycle bin and then closing down iTunes and then restarting iTunes and it still restores these five songs (even though the other 10 or so songs I deleted at the same time deleted just fine and haven't come back).
Does anybody have any ideas on how I can delete these songs?  They're not corrupted so far as I can tell, they play fine.  I just really hate them.  They're like the bloody zombies, everytime you think you've finally found a way to kill them, they keep coming back to life.

Sorted- no idea how but it was one combination of switching icloud downloads off, on, syncing 0 then all music, ejecting, reconnecting, and turning itunes and ipod off and on did the trick!

  • You can download individual tracks and delete music with itunes match on

You can delete music with itunes match on:
settings - general - use - music - all music
in the right corner above you can click on edit and choose delete.
You can also download individual tracks:
click on the "cloud download" icon in an album. It displays the icons to start downloading. You can tap on stop of the songs you don't want to download and then those songs won't be downloaded.

unfortunately the delete method deletes all the music you downloaded, not possible to delete individual tracks

  • HT1657 rented video won't delete from my ipad even after I watched it.

My kids rented and watched a video on 12/24 and it still appears on my itunes under rentals.  I can highlight it but it won't delete from my itunes or my ipad.  When I go to play it it says it cannot be opened i'm thinking because it has been watched and is expired.  Any ideas on how to remove it from my ipad and my itunes?

    Hello techno-man
Try dragging and dropping the music on top of your iPad to sync the music over, also ensure that you are syncing the recently added tracks.

  • Deleting Music Selections

I have just completed deleting most music selections from my iPhone 4s with the exception of four remaining song albums which  won't delete for some unknown reason. Does anybody know how to remove them?

    Noel,
I found the location where the file is located.  The data is stored in an XML file located in the following directory C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Adobe\XMP\File Info\2.0\work\FileInfoMRU.xml.  Where username is the name of the user or what they used as a name.
    Thanks,
    David

  • Deleting music from finder

does deleting music from finder delete it in itunes as well?

It that is the track that iTunes is linked to (e.g. if you control-click the track in iTunes and select 'show in finder') and you empty your Mac's Trash then you won't be able to play that track in iTunes - the track will remain listed in your iTunes library but if you try to play it you will get an 'unable to locate' error message and you won't be able to play it.

  • Delete music on my iphone in iOS 7 Wont let me swipe to delete

iPhone won't let me delete music that was downloaded for my daughter's iPod.  I tried swiping right to left no good.  I changed from all music from iCloud and other devices to white from green still won't let me delete.

I was having this same problem and tried everything even deleting the song completely from my computer. I finally figured it out though.
Go back to settings and turn on show all music, go back to your iPod and the songs you can't delete should now have a cloud beside them. Click the cloud to download the song from the cloud. Once downloaded you should be able to swipe to delete. Then just go back into settings and turn off show all music.

  • Won't sync music to iPhone or iPad

iTunes won't sync music to either my iPhone or iPad.
The music appears in the "on this iPhone"-tab in iTunes (when the phone is connected), but every single song is grayed out, and has a dotted circle beside it.
I have been able to add about 20-30 songs one by one, but after those 20-30 songs, the rest of the songs i add are grayed out with the dotted circle, even though I'm using the same method. (Which is pressing the arrow beside the songs, choosing "add to --> iPhone" one by one).
I've tried everything I can think of. Restoring iPhone/iPad, managing music manually, deleting and resyncing.
Actually called apple customer service, but apparently, buying a few thousand dollars worth of products does not include customer service.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.

this is happening to me as well. I have tried every single "fix" out there that I can find.
I have restored my phone from backups.
I have uninstalled itunes and reinstalled it on my comp
I have restore to factory settings and started from scratch
    literally nothing is working.

  • Can delete music...but not the file

Alright, I've tried searching the glorious internet for help, but it don't work. I'm having a problem with iTunes 11.1.3.8 where I can delete music from iTunes perfectly fine, but it won't delete the file from my PC like it used to. And yes, I've tried every possible delete button. All of them. So don't suggest that. Please. Anyways, I have a bunch of duplicates and bad quality songs in my library that I'm trying to clean out. I'd just delete the file myself but since it's a dupe I don't know which one it is and I'm not up to guessing. It's really getting on my nerves and I just want some help before I have an aneurysm. I'll keep you guys updated if I find a solution.

    Jib,
When you delete a track from your iTunes library, iTunes will offer to delete the file too, but only if the file is in your iTunes Media folder.  If the file is located elsewhere, iTunes will just leave it alone.
If you have files outside the iTunes Media folder, deletion requires a slightly more complicated procedure:  right-click the track, Show in Explorer, delete the file, then back to your library and delete the library entry.

Restoring the iPod won't delete the content of the iTunes library. Back it up anyway.
