ITU floppy without floppy drive

HI all,
Is it possible to install a driver (Raid in my case, on a ITU floppy) without a floppy drive ?
Thanks

1.
Using an USB floppy drive might work, if the system's bios offers good
usb legacy floppy emulation. Note that you have to add the driver from the
USB floppy manually - AFAIR the procedure was described in this forum
some time ago.
2.
You can setup an install server, and apply the ITU to the install server.
Install the target system from the network install server.
3.
Current Solaris Express supports ITU CDROMs.

• Is there a way to do without Floppy Drive ?

Hi:
To put it simple: I had to disconnect my Floppy Drive because randomly the system tried to read from it and all ended in a freezing status and a reboot.- This happened with or without a floppy in it and never asked by the user.
After disconnecting it the problem dissappeard at all. But now not having it, I found myself unabled to upgrade the bios and to install Raid, as both ask for floppy Drive. Is there a way to replace it with other Drive or a walk around or a solution to this strange behavior described above, that let me connect again my floppy without problems and risks (The last thinking in a bios upgrade) ?(
Thanks in advance for any tip, advise, comments u.s.w. 8)

You can burn the bios on CD and use a win98 CD to boot from in order to get to DOS.
You can get a win98 startup floppy image to make your own bootable CD at http://www.bootdisk.com (you need winace to extrarct the .IMA file out of the .EXE and use nero to burn the bootable CD with that).

• How to install WinXP on SATA without floppy drive?

Hi.
Is it possible to install WinXP on PC (with SATA) without floppy drive?
WinXP installer itself doesn't recognize SATA controller, so floppy disk with drivers is included.
But my PC doesn't have any floppy drive (what a relic. none of new PCs should contain a floppy).
How could I install WinXP on my PC? (without buying & mounting floppy drive).
(maybe one of DVD drives, ethernet or flash drive could be used somehow)
thanks.

Jeremy,
If you are having to do that all the time, then there is something else wrong with your computing habbits.
Richard
I used to try out programs on my old laptop and some of them weren't as clean as I had hoped. So I used to reinstall windows on it all the time. Luckily windows had all the drivers for my laptop so I didn't have to slipstream the drivers, but I probably reinstalled windows every other week. I just figured it was better to try a program on a computer that I didn't rely on rather than my main rig.
Have Fun

• How to boot a desktop-PC into RT directly from harddisk (without floppy disk)

Hello,
we are using a normal desktop-PC as LabVIEW real-time target (ETS).
Unfortunately, we always have to use the floppy boot disk (created with MAX) in order to boot this RT-system.
Once we had a National Instruments PXI real-time system and there was no need for that boot disk to start the system.
So, why do we have to boot the desktop-PC from a floppy disk instead of booting directly from harddisk?
Or is there a possibility to boot the desktop system without floppy disk, just like the PXI-system?
Tom S.

Hi Daniel,
thank you for your reply.
I just checked again if I can boot the RT-system without the floppy disk, from harddisk only - but that doesn't work ("DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK...").
Of course, the boot order in BIOS is set up appropriately to allow booting from harddisk.
And also, the complete software package was already installed on harddisk via MAX through the previously configured network connection.
Actually, it seems there is no boot loader installed on harddisk at RT-systems for desktop-PC's.
The boot loader has to be launched from the floppy boot disk and afterwards, the further boot program is loaded from hard disk.
Is there anyone who can boot a desktop-PC into RT without the floppy disk? And what do I have to set up in order to make it work for our system?
Thanks,
Tom S.

• Need help booting from DMG file without DVD drive

okay so i have 6 computers with me right now. i need to use one that has a dvd drive to install it on a comp that doesnt via firewire.
1- macbook with superdrive and os 10.5 (cant even open tiger install because its a new macbook
2-iBook g4 with DVD drive BUT the firewire port is broken
3-iBook g3 (one that needs tiger but only has a cd drive)
4-ibook g3 (without dvd drive)
5-powerbook g4 with dvd drive and firewire (for some reason will not read the tiger discs i just burned, even though ive already used them on the ibook g4
6-mac pro with firewire and dvd drive, but the dvd drive is broken.
so seems to me, every computer i have has a weakness for exactly what i need. what i need to know now is if i can boot the powerbook g4 from a DMG file of tiger install disc 1 and install is to the target ibook through firewire. if you have any suggestions on what i should try with the supplies mentioned above, please inform me. thanks!

what i need to know now is if i can boot the powerbook g4 from a DMG file of tiger install disc 1 and install is to the target ibook through firewire.
You can't unless the PowerBook is running Mac OS X Server, in which case the NetInstall feature can be used.

I just tried it between a Power Mac G5 and a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) and it worked. The G5 was Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode. I started the G5 with the T with no DVD in the drive. I started up the G3, and the G5's hard drive appeared on the G3's desktop. I pushed the eject key (on the G5 keyboard) and the SuperDrive opened. I put in a DVD (the Tiger installation disk) and closed the SuperDrive. The DVD appeared on the G3's desktop. I restarted the G3 with the Option key held down, and the DVD in the G5 appeared as a valid startup choice."

• SoundChannel behavior without audio driver

Hi,
I'm not sure if it's AS3 or Air /FB4 forum I should ask this:
I'm testing my air app on older notebook without sound drivers and problem is when I want to call SoundChannel.stop() function. Well I don't know what is the problem, I only managed to trace it to this line of code which calls stop() and now I don't know what to do since there was no error alert or nothing. Code just stops at this line.
I'm not even sure if it's problem with the sound driver.
I tried to look in google for answers and I found that play() function returns null when there is no drivers, but found nothing about stop() function.
Edit:
I've prepared sample application:

<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" creationComplete="init(event)">
<mx:Canvas width="500" height="500">
<mx:Text id="txt"/>
<s:Button id="btn" label="stop" click="btnClick(event)" bottom="0"/>
</mx:Canvas>
<fx:Declarations>

</fx:Declarations>
<fx:Script>

import mx.events.FlexEvent;
private var snd:Sound = new Sound;
private var sndCtrl:SoundChannel = new SoundChannel;
protected function init(event:FlexEvent):void
snd = new Sound;
snd.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,sndLoaded);
var url:URLRequest;
url = new URLRequest("df1_fi1.wav");
snd.load(url);
private function sndLoaded(e:Event):void {
snd = e.target as Sound;
sndCtrl = snd.play();
protected function btnClick(event:MouseEvent):void
txt.htmlText += "before stop
";
sndCtrl.stop();
txt.htmlText += "after stop
";

</fx:Script>
</s:WindowedApplication>
Use any sound in place "df1_fi1.wav", export, install and lunch this app, then press the button. On computer with sound driver you can see "before" and "after" text on screen. On notebook without sound driver you can see only the "before" text.

Ok, I managed to install Flash Builder on this old laptop and debug this app.
Problem is that soundChannel is null on system without sound drivers. So every time I run sndCtrl.stop() there is a standard error of an empty object and system crashes.
I just need to make exceptions, like:
if (sndCtrl) sndCtrl.stop();

• IMac G5 education without optical drive, what can I do?

I've just bought on ebay an iMac G5 1,6 Ghz (without isight) with the motherboard dead. It is very easy to open.
What was my surprise to see that there was no optical drive...In fact, it could receive one : the slot is there, the IDE cable too, the sloat-loading hole too, but...it is impossible to introduce any CD or DVD because there is a plastic and metallic band all around that makes it impossible....
As I didn't understand, I made a research on the web anf found out the answer....Incerdible! I didn't know that Apple had made an iMac G5 model for education, without optical drive : from outside, impossible to distinguish it, but when you try to introduce a CD or DVD in the slot, you can't!
So the only solution is to buy an external firewire drive?
I tried to see if it was possible to put out the metallic band to free the access for one CD, but it seems impossible! The metallic piece is riveted, or something like that....
Does anyone has tried something?
Thanks, I apologize if my english is not very good

I've just bought on ebay an iMac G5 1,6 Ghz (without isight) with the motherboard dead.
I assume you managed to fix that "motherboard dead" problem, since there would be no point in installing an optical drive in a Mac that does not work.
If you can't get the slot open because it is intentionally closed, maybe you can get an external optical drive and stick something else into that internal space. For example, will it fit a 2.5-inch (laptop size) IDE hard drive for additional internal storage? Or you can get an IDE-to-compact-flash adapter card and give your iMac a solid state flash drive (like MacBook Air); CF cards are getting pretty cheap, even at the 16GB size, and you can get even larger ones for a higher price. Maybe you can even boot from it.
Just some ideas...

• Can I install Windows without optical Driver

Hi!
I have a Macbook pro Early 2008 - MB134LL/A but its optical driver cannot read any disc. Now I want to install Windows via BootCamp but it cannot. Anybody know how can I install Windows without optical Driver? I tried to boot by USBflash, USB DVD Driver but it cannot boot.
I think that does external optical drivers via firewire work?
Thanks alot!

Thank you for your reply, and the information. This is what I came up with:
I added the strings as instructed, however when I went to sign the script in terminal, I was told:
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: replacing existing signature
/Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app: code object is not signed at all
In subcomponent: /Applications/Utilities/Boot Camp Assistant.app/Contents/info.plist
Also, here are screen captures of the lines that I added. Mine are the top string entries:
Thank you for your help, thus far!

• Installation of Master Collection CS3 (disc version for Windows) on a laptop without optical drive

Installation of Master Collection CS3 (disc version for Windows) - is there any possibility of installing my legitimately purchased MC-CS3 on a new laptop without optical drive? Perhaps through a download link or will tranfering all Adobe files from my old to my new computer do the trick as well? Or do I necessarily have to buy an external optical drive? Thank you for answering.

No need to buy an optical drive and don't try transferring, it rarely works.
Download the installer from Download CS3 products
Install then enter your serial number to license it.
