  • Why are iTunes, View, Window, and Help menu items disabled?

I am frequently encountering an issue in iTunes 10.5 (141) where all the menu items in the iTunes, View, Window, and Help menus are disabled (greyed out). Why is this happening and can it be stopped?
I've seen this issue on different Mac OS X 10.7.2 machines. It seems to occur during playlist manipulation, where I'm making new playlists, adding items to them and editing them and the items. In the worst cases, I'm forced to quit and restart iTunes, although I have to quit by using the context menu option in the Dock as the Quit option is disabled in the application.
I'd appreciate any advice on workarounds for this that don't involve quitting and restarting iTunes.

I'm also having the same issue.  It was happening with 10.5.1 and now still with 10.5.2.  I'm using a 2008 iMac running 10.6.8.  I do not use iTunes Match.  This seems to happen for no apparent reason i/o/w, I can't determine a pattern as to when it happens, but it occurs about once in every 10 times that iTunes is open and it seems to happen after it's been open for a while, but again, no particular pattern.
Sometimes, all the menu items are grayed out, and other times, 70% of the menu items are grayed out.  I can still use the other functionality in iTunes, but must must Quit from the dock (it quits gracefully and no Force Quit is necessary).  Relaunching restores eveything to normal for about a week.
I work with technical diagnostic issues and can usually pinpoint a problem, isolate an issue, or determine a pattern, but this one has me stumped. I thought 10.5.2 might fix it, but no.  Maybe 10.5.3?

  • ITunes view options dialog missing

Hello, brand new Macbbok 13.3. When I select "View Options" in menu, or ⌘J, the View label flashes blue, but no dialog appears.
    Chris

I was having a similar problem, and it turned out it had to do with how I set up my external monitor with my MacBook Pro.  Specifically, when I had set up the external monitor to hold the menu bar, the iTunes View Options dialog box would not appear.  When I moved the menu bar back to the laptop screen, I was then able to see the dialog box.  If you're using an external monitor, double check the menu bar placement under the Arrangement tab of the Displays System Preferences.

  • Itunes view options - multiple Apple IDs

Itunes view options - can I see the 'account' that purchased a song / app / movie?  We have a central iMac that Home Shares among multiple (5) Apple IDs but no way to see which 'asset' is associated with which Apple ID in the iTunes view .

    this script will help:
    Track Down Purchases
This script will examine each track in a selection of tracks or a selected playlist to determine if it was purchased from the iTunes Store and then copies it to a discrete playlist named for the person who purchased it, eg: "Steve Ballmer's Purchased Music". Recognizes song, video, and audiobook purchases. Purchaser information is gleaned by examining the track's file, which, depending on file location and access speed, can take as long a second per track.

  • I see/play TV Shows in iTunes view but not on iPhone

When I connect my iPhone4S to my MBAir and view the iPhone's files (via iTunes) I see that there are 37 "TV Shows" listed.  I can even click the play button and they play (in iTunes, on my computer).  My iPhone shows (at the bottom of the iTunes window) that it thinks it has a lot of "Video" (over 3.5 gb) stored on it.  However, when I fire up the "Video" app on the phone itself there are NO videos.
Sync doesn't help since these videos are not on my MBAir -- they are only (now) on the iPhone.
Am I using the wrong app to view them?  How can I get to them on my iPhone, to watch them there?
    Thanks!
    ~ Keri

Jeff, Thanks alot dude, you were right I went into summary and I did have unwatched videos checked, I changed it to 1 most recent episode, and my tv show came right back on, You are an IPOD WHIZ KID, Give me your direct email address so if I occur any other IPOD problems you are the one to contact, Once again thank you very much. You don't know how happy you just made me. • ITunes view columns - changes are not saved

    Hello there,
When I make changes to the column size in the iTunes list view; like title, artist, album title ... it does not seem to save, regardless if I am on the iPhone list view, shared library list view, local music view, etc. When I close iTunes and open it again, it is often reset to the default settings. Where are these defaults settings defined? The default settings that it resets to, are those that came the way iTunes was first install, but how can I save these column size changes?
Thanks for all and any replies.
    - Applies to my Windows iTunes and Mac iTunes.

    KHCrowley,
    Welcome to Apple's discussions.
Try clearing your browser cache, and then take another look. The changes are most likely there.

  • Itunes View Options - Can U change the default settings?

I am constantly adding "Composer" to my view options in my Itunes Library and when in ITunes Store. Is there a way to create a number of view options (eg. Artist, Album, When Added, Composer, etc.) and save this as a "default setting" so that I don't have to keep adding Composer. If there is, I haven't found it yet.

Time it was possible, don't you think?

  • Mac Mini iTunes viewing on iPad

i have a large iTunes library in my Mac Mini.  If I buy an iPad, will I be able to view my albums, artwork, libraries from the network where my Mini has the library(an external drive)?  Kinda wanna be able to sit and browse thru my collection i.e. album art ect on an iPad.  Not much value on my iPhone since its small screen.  Thanks

You will be able to view and play your Mac's iTunes library via home sharing - both the iPad and Mac will need to be connected to the same network and iTunes will need to be open on your Mac.

  • Cannot keep settings in iTunes - "View Option"

I want certain information to show in my iTunes library like title, singer, composer, etc. I go to View Options and check what I want to show and then click SAVE. It's fine....until I leave and come back. Then I'm back to the default settings...I guess they're the default since I can't get rid of them. I haven't found anyplace to change the defaults, but I don't want to change these settings each time I view a song in my music library.
What am I doing wrong? I have iTunes 9.6.3 but this has been going on through past upgrades as well.

    Same thing happening for me.
    Really irritating.

  • Can't get iTunes view options to stay on 2G Nano

Every time I connect my 2G Nano, iTunes changes my view options back to the original factory settings, forcing me to readjust them. This doesn't happen with my 5G iPod and I haven't been able to figure a way around it. Any suggestions?

Do you see iTunes.exe running in Task Manager > Processes?
You might try this to find conflicts

  • Itunes view problems?

Recently updated to itunes 7 and now I have issues viewing/reading the ipod screens--some of the words don't show up and/or appear bunched. It's as if the font is too big but adjusting the control panel settings doesn't help.
    Any help?

Might I add I'm having this problem when viewing it in version 9.0.1.8.
And it's actually the case with every section on the iTunes Store. It even does it when I change my iTunes library to another name and open iTunes up again, thus creating a completely new library

  • Mono/stereo field in iTunes view options

How do I add a mono/stereo field to the view options in iTunes?
I have over 20 years experience working with professional bands but am now deaf in 1 ear so I understand what mono is.
This would help sort a 128 kbs stereo copy of a song that is about half the quality of a 128 kbs mono copy of the same song.

    Dot-Khan wrote:

If Apple's iTunes software engineers did not design-in a particular feature or function, you can't add one yourself, unless you are a skilled programmer or hire one to do it for you. Even then, I expect that modifying the code is a violation of the end-user license agreement (EULA).
If I understand your motive, you could rename mono files to distinguish them from others, or perhaps use an existing field - there are quite a few sort fields not typically used - and place an 'M' there to easily sort those tunes.

  • ITunes View Options- No Ringtones!

I would like to put some different ringtones on my new iphone, so I searched the apple site, and was instructed: "If you do not see the bell icon on any songs, choose View > View Options, and make sure the Ringtone checkbox is checked."
Now I've gone in to itunes, selected View Options from the View menu, and looked very hard for that Ringtone checkbox, but there is none! I checked for a software update, and my system tells me I'm up to date; so now what? I've searched a few dozen pages here, but frankly don't have the patience to sift through the hundreds of pages of threads... I hope someone can help!
    Thanks!

I have MacBook Pro and Mac Pro.
I live in UK. I could not find "Ringtone" from View option.
Then I checked my MacBook Pro, it has Ringtone view option that I can see.
    Both Mac are iTune 7.7.1.
I checked carefully, both same but my MacBook can not see the select option for to tick Ringtone.
Then I l Sign out for iTune store, then I could tick Ringtone from view option, then I sign in again.
So I have now "Ringtone" in view.
    Try this!!!

  • Issue with iTunes view for podcasts with the latest iOS update (for my Macbook Air, Sept 21, 2013)

I just got the latest update for iOS for my Macbook Air - and now all of my previously deleted podcast episodes are showing up as available for download from the cloud - which is clogging up my iTunes display.  How can I get these previously downloaded, listened to, and deleted episodes off of my podcast view/list?

"Not only did it download a new version of itunes, but it also downloaded MS Word updates, and other software that required updating."
MS Word is not an Apple product so it could not've downloaded with all the Apple software updates.
"I clicked File > Check for Updates"
What program were you running to do that?
In any case boot from your OS installer disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Uility.

  • ITunes view settings

Since the upgrade to iTunes 11.0.1 I have not been able to save any changes I make to the program.  For instance, if i go to the music library and change the view to list, turn on the column, and turn off certain column options then quit the application it will not save any of those changes.  iTunes defaults back to the "new" setup everytime I relaunch it.  I have tried to trash the iTunes .plist files, did a repair of my disc permissions, even redid my library and nothing changes.  The overall application is working flawlessly, i have no freezes or crashes.  My only problem is that it will not save view preferences (which I rely on heavily) and that I have to completely redo my library setup everytime I open the application.  I have no upgraded my PC yet and was not having this problem when just on iTunes 11.  Windows also doesn't have this problem using iTunes 11.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    MacBook Pro
    8GB memory
    10.6.8
    iTunes 11.0.1
all library files located on home disc
all music files located on external

There is another release, 11.0.2.26, but I don't think it addresses these particular concerns.
This sounds more like a problem with iTunesPrefs.xml not getting updated. The fix for that is (with iTunes closed) to rename/delete and recreate. You should find the file at:
    C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml
Make sure to correct your preferences under Edit > Preferences > Advanced for the media folder and the Keep... & Copy... options.

  • Itunes view options problem

Apologies if this has been posted before....
Is there any way of having a default setting for the library columns (artist, album, year etc)?
i want to have specific ones on display, but itunes keeps switching back every time I do something, like play a track.
Also, is there any way of changing the names of the columns? I don't suppose there is, but thought I would ask just in case.....
    Thanks

So, holding option down while moving data into iTunes does NOT reference.
what do you mean by reference ?
if you have +*copy files to ... when adding to library+* check marked in preferences > advanced and option-drag content from e.g. an external HD into an open iTunes window, iTunes will index the path to the file's location, but not copy the file physically into the iTunes music (or media) folder.
    Test and try to verify.
i'm using the above technique to add my lossless music files (stored on an external) to my library.
It's actually click + SHIFT to reference.
again, i'm not sure what you mean by reference.
Don't you think there would be a view option (CMD J) for referenced data?
cmd j brings up *view options* for me.
