Itune and Quicktime not compatible

I reformated my computer and updated my software. Now my itune won't open and giving me the following error message, "iTunes requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later." I've tried to download a update but that didn't work. I'm afraid I don't know what system my macbook pro is operating on. I just know I bought the computer sometime early 2008. Please help. Thank you!

My Mac OS is Mac OS X, versiorn 10.5.8.
Then you can currently go as high as the latest QT 7.7 update. Now the question becomes, "What version of QT is currently installed?" To find that out, open the QT Player application and check the "About" window. You should find references to two version numbers. The first one is for the QT Player 7 app and the second is for the QT structure embedded in your OS.

  • ITunes and QuickTime not opening - why?

Recently iTunes and Quicktime haven't been opening, whether when I ask media to be opened in them or if I open them directly. They display as being open in the dock, but never actually do open and I always have to end up Force Quitting them.
Why would this occur and how can I resolve the problem?

For those reading this who do not have a QuickTime settings icon visable in their Control Panel window - look to the top left of the Control Panel window and click on Classic View.
The QuickTime icon will be visible.
I did have K-Lite but I installed it as part of WMPod after I had all this palarva, thinking I would then be able to sync via Windows Media Player. Not so, Windows Media Player did not recognise the plug in - did not have it listed in the options windows.
    When I double clicked on the QuickTime icon in Control Panel (classic view) I got this message;
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\Quicktime.cpl",Quicktime"
I had in fact deleted what I thought were duplicate QT plugins (there were half a dozen in the Programs\Internet Eplorer folder and more in Mozilla).
So I downloaded QuickTime (again) and selected repair once the installation window was up. Double clicked on QuickTime in Control Panel again.
    Same message again.

  • ITunes and Quicktime not launching

Greetings. iTunes or Quicktime will not open up on my Apple G4. When I click the icon it appears to look like its loading up, but fails to actually open. I am unable to gain access to any of my music files, or even play them through quicktime. Everything else opens fine on the computer. Restarts, etc... are not working either. Does anyone have any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to avoid losing all my stuff on this computer, but do you think updating my operating system from panther to tiger would make itunes start working again? Thanks for any advice.

It seems to me, the Digidesign website has been reorganized.
Last time I looked (few months ago) it was no problem at all to go to the download links for the various drivers.
This time I'm being redirected to other pages and constantly getting "Problem accessing search server" messages, when searching for "Coreaudio Panther".
If the accessing problems aren't solved within a few days, I recommend you contact them by phone or email. I understand from what I read on the support page, you have to be a registered user to get support.

  • ITunes and Quicktime not running after upgrade

After installing iTunes 5 I get the following error message when launching it:
'The instruction at "0xf4800000" referenced memory at "0xf4800000". The memory could not be "read".'
When trying to run a quicktime clip embedded in a Acrobat document I get the message:
'QuickTime Streaming Extras failed to load because the versions od QuickTime Streaming and QuickTime Streaming Extras do not match.'
If I try to uninstall or reinstall QuickTime I get:
    'Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL Function call crashed: QTInstallCode. QuickTimeUnInstallProc..'
The rest of the message is cut off.

    well done, Ryan!
"From the command prompt run the following:
    msiexec.exe /unregister
    msiexec /regserver "
good gracious ... you had to do that to get the Cleanup utility to install?
prior to the new versions of the Windows Installer coming out, i only had to use that trick
    b once
to get past an itunes installer error (and i only remember it because it showed up in an almost unique situation where you have to treat the last error in a chain of itune installer errors first) ... but you're about the third or fourth person reporting success with it in the past
    b week.
it's a rarer sort of problem, still. but the latest Windows Installer updates just don't seem to have been sticking as well as earlier ones.
    many thanks for reporting back!

  • Itunes and quicktime not working!!! HELP PLEASE!!

I upgraded my itunes and stopped working. i uninstall everything that said apple in my pc and install them again and i keep getting this error:
"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
    Any ideas?

"quick time Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience".
The broken QuickTime is most probably causing the iTunes problem. (iTunes needs a properly functioning QuickTime in order to work correctly.)
Let's try swapping out your QuickTime again, taking a few additional explicit precautions this time.
Head into your Add/Remove programs. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx. (If “Hide filename extensions for known file types” is enabled on the PC, then those two files will appear as “QuickTime” and QuickTimeVR”.)
    7. Restart your computer.
Next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
Switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
Go into Add/Remove and select itunes. Click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. Does it launch properly now?

  • Itunes and Quicktime not working

I just spent $300 on my brand new ipod, only to find out the ONLY program that I can use to put music on it doesn't work. Whenever I click on iTunes, the "I aggree/Disagree" window loads up, then vanishes within one second. Same with quicktime. I downloaded both five times, nothing worked. I love it how when one thing doesn't work, it ruins everything else.

    Try this method

  • ITunes and Quicktime will not launch

I cannot get my iTunes or Quicktime to launch. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, upgraded, and tried several fixes that I found on this discussion board. No Luck! I'm using XP Pro SP3. When I first installed iTunes, it worked, but then quit working about 4 weeks later. I'm using the latest versions of both iTunes and Quicktime.

The error message you are getting suggests that you do have one of the problem codec packs installed on your system or you have had in the past.
Quicktime does not install Quicktime.cpl in the system32 directory.
It is possible that one of them was installed without you knowing with other software, I think Storm may get installed with other things although I can't name anything.
You must look for the things on my list and uninstall them if you find them. Check in Add/Remove programs to see if there is an entry there.
When you have uninstalled the problem items go on to the next stage. If you can't find anything you had better go on as well.
Download the stand alone Quicktime (the one without iTunes):
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Now Remove Quicktime using the method in this article (just Quicktime):
    XP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925
    Vista
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
When you come to your C:\Windows\system32\ folder you can delete any file or folder with Quicktime in the name.
    Restart you computer
Install the stand alone Quicktime and check if it starts.
If it does you are in a position to find out if iTunes is OK.

  • ITunes and QuickTime will not work..Yeah, another one

Despite my best efforts to try to solve my problem on my own and not both you kind people, I've been working on and off at trying to get my iTunes working, with no positive results at all. It's honestly been so long, I don't recall what might have sparked the issues, but every time I try to open iTunes or QuickTime they will begin to open but fail, bringing up the common windows error message:
iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
QuickTime Player has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
So far, I have totally deleted both iTunes and QuickTime twice from my computer- first just through Add/Remove Programs pathways, then more in depth with Registry Crawler to try to remove any traces of the programs- all before re-installing the two programs. Both times have failed, still leaving me unable to open either program, so I've broken down and come here- hoping to find anyone willing to lend a hand to help fix this issue so that I can finally listen to my music the way I used to.

    Perfect information, thanks.
That combination is almost always caused by some application stashing old QuickTime componentry down in your system files. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects, although some Games might do it too.)
Let's go looking for the old stuff.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

  • ITunes and QuickTime will not open

I upgraded to iTunes 7.0.1 and the installation went fine. However, when I try to open iTunes by double-clicking on the desktop icon, a page pops up for less than a second and then goes away. I think the page might have something to do with a license agreement. I get no error messages. I also tried to open QuickTime to see if it works, but it does not. When I try double-clicking on the desktop icon, a page (different than the one that pops up for iTunes) comes up for less than a second. No error messages for QuickTime come up either. What can I do to get my iTunes and QuickTime to work?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on 25 June 2010. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Problemmm installing iTunes and Quicktime on 64bit XP System....NOT VISTA!

I had a problem installing iTunes onto my Windows XP 64bit system so I tried an older version of both iTunes and Quicktime 7.1.1 from www.oldapps.com and it appeared to work okay...it was version 7.1 I believe. However, the library it pulled over won't play anything that I have downloaded since that release. Any advice?
Does anyone have a solution for a 64bit XP system? Is there an iTunes tech support phone number anywhere?//
