ITune can't open!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,
I'm having some problems with itune working on my window XP system. I have the latest verison for itune but I'm unable to open the program. Everytime I try to open it I get This message "iTune Has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry fro teh inconvenience". I have uninstall the progam twice but it still don't work. I will be happy with any input.

good lord ... a Tarheel thread. (with an aftertaste of expatriate New Zealander.)
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close
the first thing that i check for when people report getting that message when they try to launch their itunes is a broken QuickTime.
try to open your QuickTime. does it launch properly, or do you get an error message?
if you get an error message, the first thing we'll try is a careful standalone QT 7.0.4 reinstall.
download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.
Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer
if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?
(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

    Hello AF2from,

    Hi M0M1!
I have an article for you that seems to describe your issue and can provide some helpful troubleshooting steps for this issue:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Specifically, you will want to focus on this section of the article:
    User-specific troubleshooting
If you experience the issue in one particular user account, the suggestions below may resolve the issue. Before proceeding, you'll need to make hidden files and folder visible in Windows using steps 1-5.
Remove iTunes Preference files. Some of the files that iTunes stores settings and preferences in may be unusable. iTunes saves its preferences in two folders. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The locations for the preference folders are:
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
    c:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes
    Create a new iTunes Library.
Hold the Shift key while opening iTunes. You'll be asked to choose an iTunes library.
    Choose Create Library.
In the following window, select a location to save the new iTunes Library.
Click Save. iTunes will open the new library. After you close iTunes, you can always select the original library by holding the Shift key while opening iTunes.
Recreate your iTunes Library. If your iTunes library has become unusable, rebuilding it may resolve the issue.
Check for issues with content files. Sometimes an audio file can cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly or stop responding when it's analyzing gapless playback information. To determine which file may be causing the issue, follow the steps below:
    Quit iTunes.
    Navigate to the iTunes folder:
    Windows Vista: c:\users\username\Music\iTunes
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: c:\users\username\My Music\iTunes
Move the iTunes Library.itl file to your desktop.
Open iTunes. You shouldn't see any content in iTunes.
Choose File > Add Folder to Library.
Navigate to the folder where your music is located:
    Windows Vista: c:\users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: c:\users\username\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Media
Choose an artist, album, or song to add to the library.
Wait for iTunes to successfully add the item to your library and perform the gapless playback scan.
If successful, continue adding songs to your library.
If there is an issue with one of your files, you'll notice your issue reappear after you add it to the library. You should repeat these steps, being careful not to add the files that caused the issue.
Thanks for being a part of the Apple Support Communities!

  • ITunes can't open - because of QuickTime?!

    Hi,
recently when I try to open iTunes, I get the notorious "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message from windows. The error report is as follows:
    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer.:6.0.0.18
    Offset 0000b77d
Now, I did do research, and have found out that the problem seems to be with Quicktime.
I tried to uninstall Quicktime via "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel, but I get the following error message:
    "UNHANDLED EXCEPTION
    Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProg
    Setup will now terminate"
There is no other option but to press OK.
Is there another QT inside of iTunes that needs to be replaced? What can I do?!
I tried it without my anti-virus on, and it's the same thing.
I could un and then re-install iTunes, but then I lose everything, like playlists, ratings, etc. and I have to import from scratch.
You see, I have my music spread out over my PC, not in one place.
Can someone PLEASE help me, I really want my music back.
    Thanks, and all the best,
    Omeguz
    MSI - MS-6701   Windows XP   XP Home, SP2 2,6 GHz, 1024MB Ram

If I do that, I lose all my itunes info, like I said,
    right?
Nope. The iTunes database should be preserved. But if you want to be cautious, make a backup copy of the "iTunes Library.itl" file.
And I have to re-import and rename all the
songs! They are currently mostly named with numbers,
only in iTunes do they have proper titles, artists,
    etc.
If you edited the songs to have the right names in iTunes, then it saved that information into the song tags (except in the case of WAV files). The songs will have the correct information regardless.
    Also, I can't install a new quicktime until I
    uninstall the old one
I don't see why. You should be able to install right over the old one, no problem.

  • PLEASE ITUNE CAN'T OPEN!!! ERROR MESSAGE!!!

    help anyone!!!
today when i want to upload and add some songs to my library windows keeps coming with this message:
itune.exe has encountered an error, windows is going to shut it down, please restart the program
i have tried EVERYTHING!!! reinstalling, uninstalling, repairing,
    NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!
    please someone helpe me!!!!

The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good antispyware checker and give it a go at your system. Some recent spyware has been reported by other users to shut down iTunes or prevents it from launching. From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, try deleting the iTunes preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Data\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling panel.) Delete them. This will force iTunes to run the setup assistance the next time you run it and you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've changed from the default.
    Hope this helps.

  • ITunes can't Open

    hi rainy!
i answered off in the other thread, but it'll be a bit easier if we deal with this in this thread. so i'll make the same answer here, too:
Itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close

  • Itunes can't open right the second time

So I open my itunes after rebooting and everything is fine. I close it but when I want to re-open it, nothing happens. I have to launch the task manager to stop Itunes working (even if it's not open) and then I open it and it freezes.
So I got to reboot each time I use Itunes once.
I reinstall Itunes a lot of times and no changes.
Maybe I downloaded some program, uninstalled it and then I have this problem with my Itunes.
    What can I do ?

I installed a product like changing mp3 into another music extension. I uninstalled it and maybee Itunes when into conflict with that so I can't reopen it a second time. Please help!

  • ITunes can't open after downgrading!!

Hello. I recently downgraded from iTunes 10.5 to 10.3 because 10.5 can't read my iTouch (read my other post for more), but when I try to open 10.3, iTunes says that iTunes cannot read the file "iTuneslibrary.itl", so it doesnt open. I've tried uninstalling 10.5 once and reinstalling 10.3 like 3 times, but the same message pops up. Help, please!

What sort of firewall software are you running on your computer? Make sure that you have given iTunes permission ... this might be what is preventing you from opening the new versions of iTunes.

  • HELP! Installed new itunes/can't open Istore

    HELP!
I just downloaded the new itunes 8.2 and now am unable to open the itunes store. We do not have McAfee or Norton as far as I can tell. I can still get on the internet and the IStore was working before I installed the new itunes. I have tried all the suggestions from apple and itunes, including clearing DNS cache, turning off firewall, shutting entire system down, and uninstalling itunes and re-installing it. I still get the following message:"I- tunes could not connect to the I tunes store. The network connection timed out. Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, then try again." My internet is working fine, so the connection is being made. Do you ust see the hourglass briefly when you try to start iTunes, then nothing?
If you open the task manager after trying to start iTunes, do you see iTunes.exe running on the processes tab?
If so you have a special type of launch failure which is often associated with problems with crypographic services in Windows XP. I will give a troubleshooting method which has been quite successful in diagnosing the cause of the problem. You need to work carefully through the various steps and feed back the results of each step, there a re a number of things taht could be causing this.
    ===
Troubleshooting silent launch failure in Windows XP
Before checking if iTunes works, restart your PC or close the iTunes.exe process with task manager if it is running.
A couple of simple things to try:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776?viewlocale=en_US
Stop the bonjour service, this FAQ has instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2250?viewlocale=en_US
But usually it is due to a problem with cryptographic services.
Check to see if you have your smart card service and that it is not set to disabled. For some reason iTunes needs it.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
you should find the smart card service in the list. Report back with your findings.
Malware can interfere with cryptographic services and also prevent a resolution so it is important to check that your system is clean before proceeding: Run a virus and spyware scan with up to date definitions.
Then work through *Method 4* in the following link:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798
You should be able to copy and paste the individual lines to save on typing.
Make a careful note of any error messages you get, they are important for diagnosis. Report back any error messages especially the names of any dlls mentioned.
If there are no errors try starting iTunes.
