ITune Not Responding message?

The message: iTune Not Responding appeard.  I went as far as force-quit iTune.  What's next?

The easiest thing try will be downloading and reinstalling iTunes.
If that doesn't do it, try starting iTunes in Safe Mode by holding down the Option and Command keys when starting iTunes.
If it works normally, take a look at this Apple doc -> iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins

  • "not responding" message across the top of mozilla several times a day and my entire computer lags when I receive that message.

about two to three weeks ago mozilla started to lag on occasion with the "not responding" message across the top of the browser. it would freeze while i was playing facebook games or while i was watching youtube videos or just trying to scroll down a page, so i used my laptop less and less hoping the rest period would help stop it from lagging and from not responding. now that i have uninstalled useless programs and freed up hard drive space it is still lagging a lot. i even updated to 9.01 and updated the plug-ins that i use and it still lags.

Have you recently upgraded is so i suggest you run it in safe mode first.

  • "NOT RESPONDING" message whenever I start using my Windows Media Player

I don't know what it is that causes this - if it's something to do with having the lesser expensive Hewlett-Packard computers, but this is the 2nd HP laptop I've had and the one thing I've had in common w/both of them is that, one, I got them for under $500 - about $445 or so, w/tax...anyway, I suppose that the more expensive HPs are better and wouldn't have petty problems like this - but anyway, - the last one I had & this one I currently have - the last one was a Windows 7 and this one is Windows 8, so the O/S has nothing to do w/my problem.  Anyway, it's like this:  every time I turn on the PC, then get it all revved up & ready to go, etc. when I turn on my Windows Media Player (WMP) the thing comes up on screen and it sometimes takes a few seconds, since I have about 740 CDs worth of music on here, but anyway, once the CDs show up on the WMP album page (where they're put up in alpha. order of LP name, as opposed to artist names, etc) - and so, when I go from the "A"s downward, just paging through it, looking for something to listen to, for instance, it ALWAYS, inevitably, without fail, gets stuck, sometimes sooner, sometimes later, but usually by the time I get to the Cs or  Ds, the thing gets stuck and freezes up on me and I can't do anything w/it. Then, when I try to click the mouse a couple times or whatever, I get a message at the top of the WMP box - on the top of the box it reads "Windows Media Player", like usual, but when it freezes up like this and it stays stuck for anywhere from 10 seconds up to a minute sometimes, the message that pops up right next to the "WMP" label on the blue border reads "NOT RESPONDING".  99% of the time, it just takes a little patience and sometimes just clicking the mouse buttons a few times and/or hitting a few keys on the keyboard (not hard, just randomly pressing down on some) - then it will finally come back & unfreeze and I'm usually able to continue browsing through my catalog, but there has been other times when it seems to be in worse shape - it'll read "NOT RESPONDING" for a while and no matter how much I click the left or right mouse buttons, tap the mouse on the pad, or whatever, it might come unstuck for a few seconds, then, I think I'm OK again, but sometimes, as soon as it looks unstuck, I can't get it to move at all and right away the "NOT RESPONDING" message comes right back up (and the page fades a little too) - in fact, lately, just before I did a refresh thing on my PC to try & get things to work better, it was giving me big trouble, it would just sit there, stuck, frozen up and nothing I did would unfreeze it.  I'd be frantically trying to unstick it, but no matter what I did, it'd still be frozen and when it does that, I can't get it to do anything.  Recently, when it would do this, sometimes, if I had not tried to get too far down in the alphabet, I can get a certain album open and get it to start playing, but the "NOT RESPONDING" message will pop up now and again, but the music will play all right, uninterrupted.
Anyway, this is very annoying.  It's been happening for so long now, that I basically take it for granted that it's going to freeze up on me when I 1st bring it up.  I have no idea what's causing this to happen; like I said, this happened when I had a previous HP laptop that was working with Windows 7.
Kind of a long-winded way of putting this issue to anyone, but I just wanted to be clear and specific.
Is there ANYONE out there who owns a cheapo HP? (not a Compaq, the computer co. HP bought for that purpose, to make their cheap computers and differentiate them from the HPs) - But I wonder, it's been so long since I've even checked -does Compaq even exist anymore as a separate entity from parent co. HP?  If not, then that explains why there's a difference between HP laptops that are $400 or so (at Best Buy) and the more slick, expensive HP laptops that have all the bells & whistles and usually run over $1000.  Of course, I'm not about to shell out twice as much money to buy an HP just to see if the more expensive ones don't behave the way their cheap models do.  I also had a Toshiba I bought about 3-4 years ago and I had even more problems with that - one instance was when the CD drive went out on me and I had to ship it in to HP (still under warranty, thank heavens) and they put a new drive in and shipped it back to me.  It also crashed one time, and got infected with a virus or two or three, which meant I had to re-set the computer back to the original factory settings and, not having an external hard-drive with which to back up all my music, pix, documents, etc (my music is the most important stuff on my computer to me), which meant that I had to go through this long hassle of replacing all the music I'd lost. I have a lot of my own hard copies of CDs, but there were so many more CDs that I didn't have copies of, so I had to visit the library over & over, checking out as many as 25-30 CDs at a time on a lucky day, when the library had a lot of the CDs I needed to replace in my WMP.  I don't want this to happen again, so I am going to get an external hardrive but I still don't know for sure if that would work. At least, by resetting the PC to factory settings I was able to get rid of the virus(es) that were screwing my computer up badly
So - has anyone out there had any similar problems?  If so, I would appreciate any help or suggestions you may have as to how to deal with this sort of thing.
Thanks a lot.  Hope to hear from one of you out there in the future.
    Have a nice 4th...

  • Firefox is slow to load and view pages and repeated "Firefox is not responding" message

Firefox is quite slow to load and view pages with and I keep getting the "Firefox is not responding" message.
I have the latest version, plus the latest Adobe Flash Player, Shockwave Player, etc.

Note that Firefox 36 has been released officially.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • I have a Windows Vista desktop and an old XP laptop, both run Firefox perfectly. However, my Toshiba Satellite T135 laptop will not run ANY version of Firefox--constant "not responding" messages. Chrome and IE9 work perfectly. Help!!

To mostly repeat my question, I am a longtime Firefox user on both an XP laptop and a Vista desktop. So here I get the most "capable" computer of all, a Toshiba Satellite T135 laptop, 64-bit Windows 7, 4G RAM...and it won't run Firefox at all! I have installed an uninstalled both Firefox 3, and just now, Firefox 4. No changes. When I open the software, it usually just locks up for a minute or so, and I finally get a "not responding" message at the top of the screen.
Obviously there is something corrupt in the guts of my laptop. But both IE9 and Chrome work very well--Chrome is blazing fast. I still prefer Firefox because it works best with some particular software I use for work...but I have to go to one of my older computers to do it!
ANY solutions out there? This seems like a very odd problem.
Posting from the Firefox website...using Google Chrome!

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Ralph, help!  (with "does not respond" message)

My mom said you were the go-to guy on this issue. We have been using iChat AV for video conferencing for about 6 months. Then I switched ISPs, from a cable modem to DSL. Have not been able to make it work since -- we get a "does not respond" message.
Where to begin? The router is the same; the internal firewall is off. Could it be something to do with the new modem, or the new isp? And I saw a recent post here about the November security update as well, so I am wondering if it's actually that.
    Thanks in advance.
    Juliette
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hi Juliette,
As Defcom says, if the modem can route and is not set to Bridge mode (if it can be) then you will need to open Ports.
If you have UPnP then use that as iChat can use this method.
Use Port Triggering if you have mutliple computers and no UPnP. Use Port Forwarding for links to one computer or router.
Only have one DHCP server on your network
Do not use Port Forwarding or Port Triggering twice (Or combo of them)
There is this on the Portforward.com site about Port Triggering for one version of a B90
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_triggering/Westell/BellSouthB90-2200 30-04/iChat.htm
I would use this for Pics only as the info relies on the App this site promotes which is windows only and the details are wrong after that.
Local port 5678 need to trigger Global port 5060
Local port 5060 needs to trigger Global ports 16384-16403
    Local 5190 Triggers 5910
Local 5222 Triggers 5220-5223 (jabber stuff)
Some Jabber logins are on port 5223 so
Local port 5223 triggers 5220-5222 if needed.

  • AV iChat ---does not respond message

I've been reading about iChat problems and see a lot of frustrated people out there and have joined the ranks.
My mother and I successfully AV iChatted Friday night.
My daughter and I AV iChatted Sunday (she could invite me, i couldn't invite her)
My daughter was able to AV iChat with her grandmother Sunday too. But I could not. We could however audio chat.
A week later I cannot audio OR video chat with my mother.
We are getting the "(fill in name of invitor) did not respond" message.
I have opened the ports in my Mac Firewall, and my mother did too--no luck.
I tried to set a static ip address for my computer but cannot because my isp has dynamic DNS and I'm not allowed to according to them.
    Am I frustrated? You bet!
I've Mac OS X (10.4.5) on dual processor intel iMac. I connect to the web via Motorola Surfboard S84220 Cable Modem and Netgear 54 Mbps wireless router WGR614v6. My mother is on System: Mac OSX  version 10.4.5
Power Book G4 and is connected thru Surfboard Motorola Model  SB 5100.
Oh--should I say, I am on .Mac and my mother is AIM?
My husband is beginning to worry about me because I have been glued to my computer--he says there are programs out there to help people like me get over my addiction--i hope so.

Well thanks for your time and input. After playing around with everything for another while, I finally called Apple Care. I figured since I payed for it, I should use it.
They first suggested that my problem lay with the strength of my internet connection. I turned my airport off and hooked up to the internet directly with the cable. When that did not help, we tried one more thing.
It turns out that I had to reset my modem. I unplugged it for 2 minutes--including its cable connection, and then turned everything back on as well as restarting my computer. Voila! it worked.
I have since reconnected my airport and am now operating wirelessly, and iChat is happy again.
Since I am not a technical person, i am probably going to garble this, but it seems that the modem was issuing crumby ip addresses to my computer (?)
Maybe you can make sense of this.
After all of this, it seems like such a simple fix. Maybe you who are experiencing the "did not respond" message can start here before you go to too much trouble setting ports and such.
We'll see if this still works tomorrow.
    Good luck!

  • Getting "Not responding" message and bridge freezes

When launching Bridge CC on a PC with Windows 7 it gives a "not responding " message in the title bar. If left alone it will eventually open, but is incredibly slow to go to another folder, gets hung up and gives the same "not responding" message.
It opens to the same folder every time, even if left off at another folder.
I have uninstalled Bridge CC and reinstalled and still get the exact same problem. Also have done registry cleanup and other PC maintenance.
Does anyone know of a solution?

Perhaps someone close (geographically) can give you a hand?
[http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/view-cpu-utilization-performance-information#1TC=windows-7 This Windows Help article] explains how to check for resource use on your PC.
What I described is a one-step test in Thunderbird: ''On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". '' This would help determine if the problem is among an add-on installed in Thunderbird.
If that doesn't show improvement, the problem is not within Thunderbird but elsewhere in the system. Starting the computer in Safe Mode then helps confirm if the problem is in Windows (and not specifically in Thunderbird).
I understand you may not be comfortable doing this by yourself, perhaps ask someone close to help you in person, by showing them our answers here.

  • Updated 9.0 Beta (20111212185108) a few days ago. Now having "Not Responding" message almost everytime I use Firefox. Long delays until it responds. Almost unusable now.

Downloaded update to Firefox 9.0 Beta (20111212185108) on 12-16-11. Update status was successful. Now Firefox delays with "Not Responding" message almost every time I click on something. Browser is almost unusable.

You are welcome. I'm glad you got it back up.
    (1) You say you did the symbolic link. I will assume this is set correctly; it's very important that it is.
    (2) I don't know what you mean by "Been feeding the [email protected] for several weeks now, 700 emails each day at least." After the initial training period, SpamAssassin doesn't learn from mail it has already processed correctly. At this point, you only need to teach SpamAssassin when it is wrong. [email protected] should only be getting spam that is being passed as clean. Likewise, [email protected] should only be getting legitimate mail that is being flagged as junk. You are redirecting mail to both [email protected] and [email protected] ... right? SpamAssassin needs both.
    (3) Next, as I said before, you need to implement those "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server." Once you have that done and issue "postfix reload" you can look at your SMTP log in Server Admin and watch as Postfix blocks one piece of junk mail after another. It's kind of cool.
    (4) Add some SARE rules:
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/rules.htm and download the following rules:
    70sareadult.cf
    70saregenlsubj0.cf
    70sareheader0.cf
    70sarehtml0.cf
    70sareobfu0.cf
    70sareoem.cf
    70sarespoof.cf
    70sarestocks.cf
    70sareunsub.cf
    72sare_redirectpost
Visit http://www.rulesemporium.com/other-rules.htm and download the following rules:
    backhair.cf
    bogus-virus-warnings.cf
    chickenpox.cf
    weeds.cf
    Copy these rules to /etc/mail/spamassassin/
Then stop and restart mail services.
There are other things you can do, and you'll find differing opinions about such things. In general, I think implementing the "Frontline spam defense for Mac OS X Server" and adding the SARE rules will help a lot. Good luck!

  • I have the latest update.  Why does my reader still hang up and give me the "Not responding" message.  I'm on Windows Vista.

This is a most frustrating situation.  Constantly getting the "not responding" message and any further click of the mouse, and adobe reader goes pale and I have to "end process."  What's the deal?  This use to be a very reliable program.  Now, it's nothing but frustrating and bothersome.

I had the 10.1.10 version and have updated it to the 10.1.11 version.  I
restarted my computer.  Same old problem.  Adobe Reader hangs up anytime I
try to move a document to the second page, for example.  Is there an older
version I can go back to to avoid this problem.  I'm seeking to view two
documents--both from Windows Publisher saved as pdf files.  No luck

  • Problem with "Shockwave Flash is busy or not responding" message

    Hello,
I am getting the "Shockwave Flash is busy or not responding" message, visiting the site on which I am working on for one client. Site is http://www.puntacanajustsafari.com/
I have installed one flash widget for weathercast and imediatelly after installing I have got the message "Shockwave Flash is busy or not responding"  - browser, buttons, scrolling - everything simply freeze! Few minutes just standing by, not responsive, and then eventually page start to scroll normally. Since then I changed widget position, made it to show on tour page only ( http://www.puntacanajustsafari.com/punta-cana-jeep-tour/ ) but after facing the same problems with flash thing I have removed it completely and installed one other widget and made separate page for weather information, that seems to work nicely (for now).
Problem is that I am still geting "frozen" page when visiting home page and tour page, even after clearing the page cashe and removing widget. This is happening on both browsers that I use (firefo and IE) so I am partially sure that is not a browser problem. This is first time happening to me, if somebody can figure out what to do, I would appreciate it.

Clear your browser's cache and cookies. I'm not seeing any issues in Firefox,  Chrome or IE

How do I fix Mountain Lion issue after login where Keychain Access attempts to open, hanging up with "application not responding" message?

You could try booting into Safe Mode to see if that will help. And "Repair Permissions" in Disk Utility.
Have you got Keychain set to open on Login or is it attempting to open on it's own.

  • I am getting "Not Responding" message. The fix in the Help is confusing and doesn't seem to match my setup. Using Windows 7 & firefox 7.0.1

The problem started after last update. I tried following the directions in firefox Help without success. They were confusing and the instructions did not match what I was seeing on my screen. I need a simple quick fix thank you.

There could be more than one reason for such messages.
There is a problem sometimes with the database file used for history and bookmarks see
    * http://blog.bonardo.net/2011/09/30/is-your-firefor-freezing-at-regular-intervals
There was a change made which seems to affect some Windows users, and has a workaround, but tends to result in images etc not loading rather than a not responding message see
    * [[firefox never finishes loading certain websites#w_lower-the-max-number-of-http-connections]]_lower-the-max-number-of-http-connections
Are you getting any other error messages, or indications of problems ?
    * not directly related to an update but also see [[firefox hangs]]
    * and [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]]
P.S. <br/> I note you have BrowserPlus, that has sometimes, recently, been associated with firefox problems, it would certainly be worth trying temporarily disabling that.

  • Mozilla hangs (not responding)message. I have loaded the latest version and still have the same problem, why?

Firefox hangs (not Responding message) I tried refreshing Firefox. I tried deleting history. I deleted Firefox and reinstalled the latest version which I already had running before and the same problem occurs. It starts hanging after a few minute when I start the computer mostly on my email page or ebay page and continues to hang for about 5 to 10 minutes then it starts to function normally. It is most annoying and I cannot figure what is causing the problem? Please help if you can?
    Thank you,

    Hello Fred McD,
If I was unclear I am sorry, I can not start Firefox normally after starting the computer in safe mode with or without the network because my USB internet modem will not allow me access to the internet in the safe mode. the USB modem will not work when the computer is in safe mode. The only thing I can do is start the computer normally then enter Firefox in the safe mode by holding down the shift key and pressing the icon for Foxfire at the same time. This will put Foxfire in the safe mode but the computer is operating in the normal mode Because I can not get access to the internet when I use the computer in the safe mode The USB modem will not connect to the internet when the computer is in the safe mode.
    Thank you,
    aleggert
