ITune not seeing iPod in another USDB port

Hi there
I have a 20Gb iPod, and my wife has a nano. She has a nano dock in one port on the PC, and she has her own library in her own profile on the PC. When I used to connect my iPod to the PC, I just pulled the plug out of the back of the Dock, and plugged in my iPod - iTunes recognised it without a hitch.
Now I've got a dock as well, plugged into another free USB port on the PC, but when I put my iPod in, iTunes won't recognise it.
iTunes still recognises it if I plug it in the way I used to, however.
I have tested the USB port with other peripherals, and it is fine. I have tested the dock by 'bypassing' the actual dock and plugging the iPod directly onto the cable. Still nothing. But this dock and cable work fine when plugged in to my stereo, so I really don't think the fault lies there.
Has iTunes 'registered' my iPod on a certain USB port, and not recognise it in another? Do I have to reset it via my iPod updater?

Is the USB port your have your dock plugged into or your cable plugged into a USB 2.0???
Is it one of those "handy in front or on the front of your pc tower casing"??
If your answer to the first question is yes, then I have no clue how to help.
If your answer to the second question is yes, then the problem is with the actual USB port, you see the computer manufactures put those handy USB 2.0 ports on the front but the problem lies in the wires that connect it to the mother board. The wires can't handle the 2.0 communications and this confuses the computer, and consequently the computer and iTunes will disable that port and not recognize it.
Post back your response, I am curious.

  • MacBook/iTunes not 'seeing' iPod

I haven't updated my iPod for a while, certainly not since the last couple of iTunes updates. However, today I opened iTunes, connected my iPod nano and it is not being seen by my MacBook.
I've tried closing and reopening iTunes whilst keeping the iPod connected and I rebooted the MacBook with the iPod connected. It still doesn't see it.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
    Thanks for responding.
I've solved the problem by simply resetting my iPod.

  • Itunes not seeing Ipod and songs not playing Ipod

I have a couple of issues just wanted to know if anyone has run into. I have a couple of computer one running Vista, the other XP, neither see the ipod in itunes, both see it in Windows. That is the first problem. I have also tried all of the suggestions in the troubleshooting section of this support website, except re-installing the operating system. The other issue is that the ipod does not play the music that is currently stored on it, it acts like it is going to and then stops the screen turns black and the apple logo appears, any ideas?

    Hello betel23,
Have you tried resetting the nano yet? To do this, toggle the hold switch on and off, then press and hold the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together until the Apple logo appears. I would try these more than once just in case.
Otherwise, try forcing the iPod into *Disk Mode* using the instructions in this Apple support document. It may help your iPod mount as an external drive on your system as well as get it to appear in iTunes.

  • ITunes not seeing iPod

My iPod will not mount on the desktop or in iTunes. When connected to my iMac it shows the 'Do Not Disconnect' message, but nothing else happens. I have tried to reset the iPod but the same thing happens. I don't think I can Restore it if I can not see it in iTunes.

I am having the same problem. My ipod is not showing on in finder or in itunes. I am not getting the "do not disconnect" message either. I tried the trouble shooting but there is nothing I can do if my Mac is not recognizing my ipod. My itunes is up to date and the os is up to date. I don't know what the problem is. I am currently in Germany and can't call tech support. I will be here until 20 June but don't want to be without my ipod that long. Is there anyone out there who can help me?!!!

  • ITunes not seeing iPod Shuffel songs

    Hi All
I bought a 2nd gen Shuffel for my girlfriend the other day but ran into plenty of issues.
Firstly, it did not want to be picked up on her PC (W2k with SP4). It kept saying "iPod is corrupted".
Then, I plugged it in my laptop (XP Pro). Restored and updated with latest iPod software. Also copied some music from a CD. Everything was working until the next time I plug it back into my laptop again. iTunes does not see any previously installed music on the ipod.
If I plug it back to my girlfriend's PC (Win2K), once again it say "iPod is corrupted"
    Any input on this please???

I have used iTunes and iPods for several years. I
always use automatic updating. Previously, any
change to a song rating I made on my iPod would be
reflected in my iTunes library after a sync. Since
my most recent iTunes update (7.1.1), I have two
problems. (1) iTunes does not update the ratings
changes made on my iPod and (2) podcasts which I
listen to on my iPod are not marked as "not new" in
iTunes. It appears that Apple has screwed up
something in the sync process in the newest iTunes
version. Is anyone else having this problem?
Having exactly the same problem as your first issue. In the playlist of top-rated tunes they all appear. However my iTunes library has 460 relevant tunes, whereas the same playlist on the iPod has 100 fewer. They are greyed out and can't be changed and aren't played.
    Any ideas?

  • A little different - Computer & Itunes not seeing IPOD Nano

I will try to make this as brief as possible... This is very frustrating.
Just got a nano - Am trying to install on my computer... Have installed a mini & a shuffle already with no problem.
The Nano is not being seen as an ipod. It is showing as an "Apple Ipod USB Device" and I get messages about not being able to update File J whenever I plug my ipod into my computer.
Neither my computer or my itunes is recognizing it. It worked once... and I was able to use the ipod updater one time to update my nano.. Now, when I try to use the updater to restore, it just tells me to plug my ipod in. It is already plugged in??!!!
I have tried apples recommended 5 steps, reset, used a different USB, restarted & updated the programs, uninstalled & reinstalled itunes & ipod (big pain), the only step I can't do is Restore.
    I have 2 questions...
Is there a way to restore my ipod without the updater, or is there some other way for me to get my computer to recognize the new ipod. Still, if I plug in my mini, the computer & Itunes picks it right up, just not the nano...
What am I doing wrong. I don't have a laptop & I don't have "firewire"... and i have tried turning off all my antivirus stuff..>???
I am so frustrated, any help is welcome!!!

Thank you, and all the others, for supplying information on work arounds that may help all of us Nano owners to fix this significant problem. However, after spending more hours than I would like dealing with this issue, I would like to raise a couple of points. Hopefully, Apple will respond.
    1) An owner should not be forced to reformat his iPod's hard drive when carefully following Apple's procedure for making software updates. Testing of the updater program to see if it worked correctly on the popular Nano series should have revealed that it would erase all the iPod's content and cause the device to become unusable?
    2) What course should Nano owners follow in the future regarding iPod upgrades? Should we just ignore upgrade notifications or attempt the installation of the new software hoping that this time we will not be forced to re-initialize our iPods and reload our content?
This issue needs to be addressed. The iPod has been designed and marketed to be a very user friendly consumer product. This is one of the primary reasons it has become so successful. Updating it should not cause it to be turned into a complex device requiring the advice of computer technicians.
    Thanks for reading these thoughts.

  • ITunes not seeing my iPhone4...

This is prolly an old one, but here goes...
Phone arrived yesterday, attempted so sync on MacBook pro (running Leopard), iTunes not seeing phone.
    Re-installed iTunes 9.2, everything fine.
Today, attempting to do some more syncing, and, once again, iTunes has amnesia.
    What's going on here?
Any help would be truly appreciated.
    Thanks.

Just got my iPhone 4 today -iTunes doesn't see mine. Did your issue ever resolve? The phone says NO SERVICE. Was that your issue, too?

  • Rented a movie on my mac - trying to watch on apple tv (i think 2), but iTunes not "seeing" apple tv - so i can't 'move' the rental to the device.  ??

rented a movie on my mac - trying to watch on apple tv (i think 2), but iTunes not "seeing" apple tv - so i can't 'move' the rental to the device.  i'm brand new at apple tv - do i need to enable it or something?

Is it the little black box? If yes then it is the 2nd model. It won't show up in iTunes as there is no syncing involved. The only time it does is when you connect and need to restore the device.
You need to enable home sharing in iTunes and on ATV

  • ITunes does not see iPod after last updates

It seems that many people have this same problem, but I do not see any solutions. I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version and did the iPod updaters. Since this, my computer at home and work no longer recognizes my iPod. I keep getting something asking me to restore my iPod, but i have a bunch of pictures on it that I do not have saved anywhere else. Doing a restore will erease everything on my iPod.
    please help.
    Jaryn

    Well, that was annoying.
I just went through the same grief being reported by many other users here: I updated my iTunes on Windows XP, and it stopped recognizing my iPod. (Plugging in the iPod would actually kick off iTunes, but after coming up, iTunes refused to see the iPod.)
It's working again, and it did seem to be related to network drives. However, I wasn't very disciplined about trying a single step, seeing if it worked, then proceeding to the next step, so I can't guarantee which specific step(s) below that actually solved the problem.
    But for what it's worth:
    1. I recently (a day or two before updating iTunes) mounted a new network drive, assigned to drive "G:". My iPod has been "F:" since I first installed it.
    2. When iTunes stopped seeing my iPod after updating, I tried resetting the iPod's drive assignment to "H:".
(Unfortunately, I also tried everything else, including restoring the iPod to factory settings...it's now updating something like 1500 tracks.)
    3. Resetting the iPod's drive letter as suggested in another thread didn't seem to do anything by itself, however I ALSO UNMAPPED THE NEWER DRIVE ASSIGNMENT DESCRIBED IN STEP 1.
    4. Now here's the other stuff I did before trying it again, which may or may not have contributed to the fix:
    - I undocked (it's a laptop)
    - I moved the USB cable from the docking station
to one of the laptop ports
    - I rebooted
After doing this, I plugged in the iPod, and ALLELUIA BROTHERS AND SISTERS, it was RECOGNIZED ONCE MORE!
    Give me an AMEN.
Hope this helps somebody else to get going.

I actually found the answer, my computer (in my computer) was recognising the ipod as a hard drive device
I went to Control Panel, All Control panel items, Programs & Features.....Right clicked on iTunes.....the selected 'Repair'

  • Why is itunes not seeing my iPod?

I have followed the troubleshooting support page for starting and stopping services, deleting temp directories, cleaning the registry and etc. Followed each one, one at a time, and still here's what I have going on. My iPod is seen by Windows 7 (64bit) and it appears in my computer as an iPod. The first thing the iPod does is once it's connected to windows; windows says the device must be formatted in order to be used. I hit no, because the restore will do this anyway. I open itunes, and no device is listed. I tried (just to see if it would help) to go ahead and hit yes on the reformatting, and once I get to the disk formatting screen, I hit format disk, and it says "this device could not be formatted."
I have used this iPod for a while, and a few months ago, I synced up... went to the gym, and my playlist and music was gone. Haven't got it working since.
    Any ideas?

Update: left it on the usb port all night, itunes finally saw it. I did the restore, and when it restarts, itunes says the ipod is corrupted. Tells me to run the restore again and again. Any ideas on this one?

Reset iPod touch offline several times.
    Updated iPod touch driver.
WIndows ses the iPod as portable device, iTunes does not see it.
Any ideas on why I can't use iTunes with my touchi?  Has anyone hadluck with non apple softyware, seems apple has made a mess of itunes on this version.  I've been throught multiple threads on reinstalling and with tweaks.  I've read the apple device is faulty in this latest version, any news on when this fault will be fixed?  Love to hear from an Apple person on this.  Samsung is looking more and more attractive.
