ITune U in South Africa

Hi. I cannot see iTunes U on my windows laptop but can see it on my macbook pro. I am based in South Africa if that is relevant. Please could someone assist.
Thanks.

I can only access the AP store if I set my store to south AFrica, nothing else is available.
I am using Windows but I don't see why it should be different on a Mac. Are you sure you have your country set to South Africa on the MAc.

Apple can only sell content where the rights-holders grant them licenses to sell it (and in some cases a country's laws also limit things). If there is a particular item that is not currently available that you would like to be able to download then you try requesting that it be added, but unless the rights-holder agrees to it then Apple won't be able to sell it there : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunes.html
For music you could check to see if its available on other music purchase downloads sites that you have access to (or if it's available as a CD then you could buy that and copy it via your computer's iTunes).
For ebooks there are other ebook apps/stores where it might be available e.g. Amazon/Kindle, Nook, Kobo etc

  • When will music be available in the iTunes Store in South Africa?

I live in South Africa and I don't have a billing address in another country. I would really like to be able to buy music from the iTunes Store.
At the moment the only thing that I would like to buy in the iTunes Store is music. I can't, so it makes the store unusable for me.
I realise that there are a number of legal issues regarding this at the moment, but is there a plan to find a workaround for this in future? When will we be able to buy music from the iTunes Store in South Africa?
    Is the answer: Never?
(Is there a loophole/workaround already available that I am not aware of?)

There is no way to know when unless Apple announces.
You can buy your music from another source, Amazon for example.

  • Itunes Store for South Africa

    Hey guys!!
Will Itunes/Apple EVER allow other countries other than the US to purchase music, TV shows etc? I live in South Africa and the itunes store only consists of an app store... I use an iphone 3G as well, and love Apple....

Hello everyone. I am just as upset about the fact that we cannot purchase content from the Apple iTunes store, but they do have a valid and understandable reason why this isn't possible.
Local Media Companies will suffer a great loss due to the fact that their music and tv shows are slightly older then that in the USA, and they also like to be the first to release such content.
With South African's purchasing the latest TV shows on iTunes there would be no point for having DSTV since the TV shows on the iTunes store are newer then those on DSTV. This is just one example of what great drama this could cause for local businesses.
Now the other option for apple would be to create a separate store for each country offering only the content that is available to that country as chosen by the local media. This on the other hand would take a lot of work, and a lot of money. I think that Apple is focussing on other things first, such as the new iMac's MacBook's and Magic Mouse.
Hopefully one day.. (SOON!! Please Steve?) They will expand the iTunes store globally. With a separate content collection for each country in order not to infringe on copyrights and broadcasting rights.
    I will patently wait..

  • HT1420 I cannot access the iTunes Store in South Africa.

It worked well earlier as it is our first day on the store but now it just wont connect.  It just stays stuck in the 'accessing iTunes Store' state as shown in the image below.
    Please Help! :-(

I'd suggest just waiting a few hours, or perhaps until tomorrow or Thursday. There may be technical issues with the servers handling SA, or they may be overloaded with people jumping in to check things out, and it may all sort itself out in a while.
    Regards.

  • I lived in the US for a few years, spent a fortune on iTunes [my then local Apple ID account].  Now I live in South Africa and want to use Match.  I have a local credit card but how do I use my new / 2nd Apple ID and gain access to all my US music??

You have to be in a country to use its store - you will need to be in the US and have a US billing address on your account to be able to use the US store (that applies to buying and redownloading).
You can use iTunes Match in South Africa, do you not have a backup copy of all of your US iTunes purchases so that you can subscribe to it and upload those that aren't in the South African store to it ?

  • Itunes south africa

When is iTunes going to be fully open in South Africa???
Come on Apple, I have been asking for the last 6years already, the iTunes SA store is terrible.  I want to rent movies, episodes, music, etc.  Its so frustrating having state of the art tech that isnt fully supported or operational in SA.
Please dont give me the "legal response" again, surely by now you have negotiated with the SA publication board on opening the iTunes store completely.  Yes, local businesses will probably close overnight like the CD stores, etc, but the majority in SA have spoken.  We are tired of not having all the features you offer your US, EK and EU consumers.
Please open up iTunes properly in South Africa, please, please, it only adds to your increased market shareprice if you do.  And please please, please, have support for Passbook in South Africa.  Businesses in South Africa need to get out of the "brick and mortar" mindset.  You defintely need a South African "Steve Jobs" at your Apple corporate offices here to engage the policy-makers (or policy-blockers) to implement a proper iTunes in SA.
    Thank you.

I have been asking for the last 6years already
And the answer remains the same as it has for the last six years.
Please dont give me the "legal response" again, surely by now you have negotiated with the SA publication board on opening the iTunes store completely.
Well, you're going to get it anyway. The SA publication board is not the only entity involved, if they even are. Whoever holds the rights to music, movies, etc. for SA have to be willing to allow Apple to sell them there. Apple also has to be able to set up a suitable infrastructure, sort out any legal and copyright issues, and many other factors. Apparently they have not been able to do so, as has been the case in many other countries, not just yours, including countries with populations and hence markets that far outstrip that of your country.
It does not good to complain here. If you want to complain to someone, complain to the record companies, movie distributors and book publishers in your country.

  • Does south africa itunes sell music?

Does the iTunes store in south Africa sell music?

Thanks, I have loaded all my CD's on but there are items like EP's which are not available in CD's stores here which I would like to purchase from the UK or US store.  I was looking at getting John Mayer's Born & Raised, it is available from Amazon but it does not come with the extra's (photos, lyrics etc) that you get from iTunes. That's why I was wondering why we couldn't purchase music from here.  But thanks your info answered my question.

  • Lack of music/apps in South Africa

I know this topic has been discussed before, yet there never seems to be a satisfactory answer.
    http://www.thyon.com/blog-entry/items/apples-lack-of-games-music-movies-tv-in-so uth-africa.html
The lack of availability of music, games and other apps on the iTunes store in South Africa makes no sense. Does anyone know the correct channels an individual would have to follow to make this aware to the higher ups at Apple? I know it wouldn't be difficult at all to get a large number of South Africans behind this change. Having music available for purchase on the iTunes store would be massive here, and this lack of availability does not seem to be caused by South African laws, but rather a lack of action from Apple. This issue seems to have been ongoing for years now.
I don't think wanting to spend money to purchase music and games legally should be such a problem for Apple to remedy.
Any ideas as to how we could tackle this would be awesome!

Its not worth for Music at all.
You cant shuffle / play the next song / forward the song until you tap the screen to unlock the auto lock. (obviously we can set the autolock off)
Music in Play, iPhone is in standby (screen off by autolock or whatever), how do u forward the song ? Nothing provided
You cant jump to next song....Unnnhhh
    Way outs most welcome...
Even in lock mode, double click the home button - you'll get a volume control, a pause/play button and a reverse and forward button.
All explained in the iPhone manual.

  • HI I am writing from a Univerisity in South Africa

HI I am writing from a Univerisity in South Africa - how would I go about including lecturs in iTunes U as South Africa does not seem to be included as an option when I try to setup the materials.  Any help would be appreciated.  Kenneth Creamer

Sorry, but there is no "application" or "accreditation" process since, as Duncan said, there is no iTunes U for South Africa. Whether Apple will ever decide to expand iTunes U to other countries beyond the ones they already serve is something no one here can answer. You could perhaps express your interest by writing Apple at their corporate headquarters, but whether that would have any influence on their plans is something I don't know.

  • ITunes Store South Africa

Hi all. South Africa is quickly joining the rest of the world with it's addiction to Apple products. Our iTunes store only allows App purchases, no music, no movies. There may be a rights issue with Music. But I really want to set something up for video, so I can install more Apple TVs and allow clients to buy movies.
    What can I do?
    Regards

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do, at least as regards the iTunes Store. Apple has apparently not been able to negotiate rights to sell videos and movies in your country, so you'll have to look for other sources for videos and movies and hope that they're in a format that can either be played directly on the Apple TV or converted appropriately (very unlikely, since all other download stores I've seen that sell movies have copy protection not compatible with Apple's products, but you can look).
    Regards.

  • ITunes Store: South Africa: Why is the store so limited?

Why is the store so limited with available Apps? Facebook Apps like Zynga games is unavailable. Angry birds is available from Blackberry for crying out loud but not iTunes South Africa.

This has been covered in many other threads. As reported by another SA user, Apple and the SA government are negotiating over how to apply Apple's iTunes Store age ratings to the SA regulations so as to allow more apps to be sold in the SA iTunes Store. Where those negoiations stand I don't know.

  • Will an iTunes voucher purchased in uk £s be able to be used in South Africa?

No, all iTunes gift cards are country-specific - a UK can only be redeemed and used here in the UK on a UK iTunes account

  • Can anyone explain why iTunes in South Africa is limited to App Store

In the South African store it appears we are restricted from purchasing anything other than AppStore items, for example:
All the iTunes store content is not available : i.e. no music, movies, ebooks, etc.
Also for the iPhone we cannot get access to any of the iPhone games advertised on Apple.com
Can anyone provide some clarity on why Apple has chosen to restrict this content in countries like South Africa, we have a number of other legal online ways to purchase music, movies, etc. online so it appears very strange that Apple have implemented this restriction.

Apple is limited by what the rights holders will allow them to sell. If they can not come to favorable terms with the people who own the distribution rights for the music, movies, television shows, they won't be able to set up an iTunes Store in that country. And, rights holders may not be the same in one country to the another.
You can be fairly certain that, as a profit making company, Apple would be more than happy to take your money if they could do so.
    Best of luck.
