ITune v7.02 freezes with CPU at 100%

iTunes freezes after few seconds of opening up the application (CPU maxes out at 100%). It doesn't matter if my iPod is plugged in or not. It always freezes. Very, very disappointed with the quality of iTunes.

Hey brumeux,
How did you install iTunes 7.0.2?
Was it a response to a prompt to update?
If so, did you disable any security software before the install?
If you answered yes, then no
Remove iTunes and Quicktime
go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and download itunessetup.exe using the save option
Then disable security and install again
Hope this helps,
Generik

As anyone experienced a behavior like this?
    Thanks

    Hi Ricardo
I have seen this when underlying storage changed from raw SAN devices to NAS file system devices.
tempdb writes after a certain amount of volume queued up in a serial way choking the whole server.
This may or may not be what is happening on your server.
Having said that : If this is not something new  then what was the last change in your case ?
    Especially related to storage
Wait event 29 is related to storage and  I/O.

Unfortunately, iTunes now freezes after few seconds of opening up the application (CPU maxes out at 100%). It doesn't matter if my iPod is plugged in or not. It always freezes. • ITunes prone to freeze with external hard drive?

I have a near 100GB music library (I write music reviews for several publications) and therefore I keep my collection in a Seagate 300GB external harddrive that I connect to my powerbook via firewire. Well, the problem is that iTunes tends to randomly freeze up on me after a while of use. Usually after about half an hour of using iTunes problem-free (sometime sooner, especially if I'm listening to a song and managing my library simultaneously), it stops responding and I have to Force Quit. Moreover, sometime Force Quit won't work and I have to either simply unplug my hard drive (obviously not good) or do a hard shut-down of the computer (also, not good). I don't remember having this problem before I started using my external hard-drive.
Any insight would be GREATLY appreciated.

No answer for you here other than to register my bitter disappointment, first it was 7.x and now it's 7.1 still same problems; spinning beach balls when importing folders not to mention ridiculous gapless slowness and extremely long album art work downloads.
I have a 2TB Terastation over Airport Expresses, it was more than fine on iTunes 6.x. I trashed the plists, trashed iTunes and re-installed, de-clicked gapless off library (too late because you have to select songs first) optimized wireless, localised library (move it locally rather than selecting external) and.. . no improvement.
I find it absolutely amazing that a company that touts digital life hasn't even tested one of it's core software on external/networked drives.

  • CPU hits 100% when I quit iTunes

Whenever I quit iTunes, the it pegs the CPU at 100% for 20 - 30 seconds. I've seen lots of people with CPU-hogging problems during podcast updates and ripping... anybody find an answer for this one?

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Mac forums.

  • Upgrade to iTunes to 10.4.0.80 caused 100% CPU usage when I start iTunes. Task manager shows iTunes 50% mobile 50%. I am running Windows XP Professional sp3. iPhone 3 ios 4.3.5

I upgrade to iTunes 10.4.0.80. Since then iTunes uses 50% of the CPU and Mobile uses 50% CPU. I let it run for hours and the CPU usage stayed at 100%. The phone will partially sync but takes a very long time. This was not a problem before the iTunes upgrade. I am running iTunes on Windows XP professional SP3. It does not matter if the phone is connected to the USB port of the PC. When iTunes starts it runs the CPU at 100%.

Yes!  I am not the only one with this problem.  Ever since the latest iTunes update, the CPU runs up to 100% using both the mobiledevice and itunes itself.  The store won't work either!  I'm also on Windows XP.  I too have tried everything I can think of but nothing has helped.  I really hope they get an update out with fixes soon.  This is really annoying!!

  • ITunes freezes with iPhone, when connected to network

iTunes started to freeze with latest version (9), when iPhone is connected.
I tryed everything from the Apple support page:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1421
The last sentence on that page is "Disconnect your computer from the Internet"
iTunes is working well with iPhone, when network is disabled, but how I can fix it? What could be the problem?

    Hey Hoods ginest,
Check out the following article, it'll go over how to sync your photos to your iPhone using iTunes:
iOS and iPod: Syncing photos using iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4236
You'll want to read the section titled "Syncing photos to devices" and then "To sync photos from a folder on your hard disk to your device."
    Take care,

  • ITunes freezing with error -50, -3259 and 9006

Okay, so I have had a problem with iTunes freezing in relation to downloading Podcasts since around version 8.  After updating to 10.2.2 on 10.6.7, iTunes has turned into one big fail.  Downloading anything produces any of the following error codes: -50. 3259 and 9006 after about 30 seconds.  After any error code is displayed, a few seconds later iTunes freezes with the pinwheel of death and no matter how long I leave it, I end up having to restart using my computer's power button.  After 2-3 restarts like this, the iTunes library is corrupted and the app freezes while loading the library.  During this library freeze, the drive where my iTunes library is stored is ejected.  This happens on both internal and external drives.
Here is what I have done thus far:
    Uninstalled iTunes completely.
Created a new user account and installed iTunes 10.2.2 to that account.
    Added various media.
I have absolutely NO problems with iTunes until I download a podcast or something from iTunes U.  Then, the issues occur and I cannot seem to get rid of them until I unistall completely and reinstall to a new user account.
I would like to be able to use iTunes WITH podcasts and iTunes U on my main user account without the freezing.  Any suggestions?

I seem to have fixed my own problem.  I just thought I'd post my solution since I read posts from many, many people having similar issues.  So hopefully, this helps someone!
I found a file in /Library/Preferences called com.apple.pcast_integration.plist; the file text included QuickTimePro and Podcast Producer Export in its strings.  Deleting the file solved my problem.  I went from my main user account freezing constantly and throwing up errors to working 100% smoothly with just deleting that one file.  I cannot believe this simple action solved a problem I've been having for so long!
I do not understand how this file is being referred to in downloading podcasts.  I have tried everything, even loading and playing all types of media from old libraries I thought were corrupt, but cannot seem to make iTunes or Quicktime recreate the file...nor can I find anyone else having trouble due to this file.  Could it be a remnant from an old installation, or something that somehow deployed along with a podcast?  If anyone can tell me more about com.apple.pcast_integration.plist, I would appreciate it.  And let me know if removing it helps you!

Trying to download itunes onto PC installed with windows vista. Download keeps getting to 99% with 1 second remaining and then freezes / does nothing? Any help appreciated.

I solved the problem! The updates orignally were downloaded to the C: drive of the server. I've since moved them to the E: drive and for some reason the Content folder in IIS didn't change the file path to the new WSUScontent folder.
The root cause for this was failing to use the UTILITY designed for this very purpose.
I edited the virtual directory settings in IIS and was able to put the correct path in.
You still need to use the UTILITY.. to fix all the other stuff you're still missing.
    In the %ProgramFiles%\Update Services\Tools folder...
    WSUSUTIL MOVECONTENT E:\WSUS E:\WSUS\MoveContent.LOG -SKIPCOPY
This problem was caused by moving the WSUS updates to a different local drive.
No. This problem was caused by IMPROPERLY moving the WSUS updates to a different local drive.

Once it opens, type in the following command...
    netsh winsock reset
    hit enter
You should get a message that the winsock reset successful and you will need to reboot your computer.
Reboot and when I reloaded itunes the store loaded fine.

  • Itunes Videos freezing with windows 7!

I just got a brand new dell studio last week; i installed itunes 9 with the 64bit and for the first few days it worked just fine and now I will be watching a movie on itunes and my computer will freeze and go black, requiring me to do a manual shut down because i can no longer move my cursor or click anything. I've heard other problems with windows 7 and itunes. When i insert a regular DVD into windows media it works just fine. So far my computer only freezes with my itunes videos but who knows next week it could be my music too!

    3) attempt to restart my PC connecting the iphone
    Thanks for the help!

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
