ITune won't launch automatically when iPod attached

I'm giving my brother my old Mac iPod and just reformatted it so he can start using it on his PC. Everything is working fine except that iTunes will not automatically launch when the iPod is attached. All the settings are correct and all software is installed properly. I have enabled disk use and can see that the iPod is recognized immediately because it mounts as an external drive but I wait and wait and wait and iTunes does not launch. When I launch iTunes manually, the iPod shows up in the source column within seconds. I only have Macs at home and a Sony Vaio laptop PC that I use for AutoCAD so I can only confirm this as a problem on my PC. I have MediaFour's MacDrive 6 installed and wondering if that is somehow conflicting. Any ideas on a fix for this?

My HP media center pc at home is doing exactly the same thing. My Dell at work will launch itunes automatically. My HP at home launched itunes the very first time I connected my ipod, but not since. I reloaded the software and again, itunes launched the first time, but not since. I wonder if this is a HP issue, or maybe a firewall issue (I use Zone Alarm)?
Have you found a solution to this issue since you first posted?

  • ITunes doesn't lauch automaticly when iPod connected

    Hi,
iTunes doesn't launch automaticly when my I connect iPod touch 2nd gen.
    Sincerely.

Here's what I did when iTunes started to not open automatically when I connect my iPod touch to the Universal Dock. With the iPod connected, I unchecked "Open iTunes automatically" and "Apply", then I checked "Open iTunes automatically" again. iTunes asked me if I wanted to install "iTunesHelper.app" and I clicked "Yes". No problems with any of my iPods since.
Make sure iTunesHelper.app is active on launch in System Preferences > Accounts.

Why IPhone is getting hot when downloading via wifi and how to turn off itunes 11.1 launch automatically when plugged in Iphone to the PC

My brother with the iPhone 4 suffers from that too.
    My iphone 5 doesnt however.
But to Stop Launch when your apple device is connected, 1. connect your iPhoneto your computer, 2.Go to the Summary Page, 3. uncheck the box "Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected" and then your good for that device.

  • ITunes doesn't start automatically when ipod is connected.

Even though I have clicked on the place that says itunes will start automatically when iPod is connected to pc, it doesn't. I have to click on iTunes everytime, and then it takes a while to run.
Anyone have any ideas what might be the problem?

    hi joyful!
just checking. reboot the PC, and prior to launching itunes or plugging in the ipod, bring up your Task Manager to the "processes" tab.
is there an iTunesHelper.exe running in your processes?
Background processes installed with iTunes 6 for Windows

  • ITunes won't launch automatically

I've checked the preference to launch itunes automatically when my touch is connected, but it will not. Any ideas why not? It syncs fine and everything else seems fine.

I have an intel iMac running Leopard. iTunes will not start automatically when the touch is connected. I have checked the preferences. I have followed the so-called expert analysis tool, tried using a different USB port and it ends with the same result: I have to manually start iTunes. At least everything else is working.
When I plug in my 5G iPod iTunes automatically boots and syncs with it.
Now here is a strange addition: in the select calendar section I notice calendars that I subscribed to and deleted months ago from my iMac before I installed Leopard. In fact, there are more "older" calendars with my 5G iPod than with my touch.

  • ITunes isn't launching automatically when I connect iPhone

I have the box checked off to launch automatically when I connect my iPhone, but it is not launching automatically.  I have to open up iTunes.

From the iTunes menu bar click iTunes / Preferences then select the Devices tab.
Deselect: Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically
    Click OK.

  • ITunes No Longer Launches Automatically When My iPhone Plugs In

So as the subject line says, my iPhone no longer starts iTunes when it is automatically plugged in. It just stopped doing this after I talked to AppleCare to get my MobileMe working (my computer is old so it uses .Mac but it wouldn't load successfully so AppleCare changed some preferences around). Anyway, now when I plug my iPhone in, iPhoto launches but in order to get my phone to perform a backup, I have to manually open iTunes when before both iTunes and iPhoto launched automatically.
Anybody know how I can get it back to launching automatically when I plug my phone in to the computer?

Like the poster "Sig", I have this problem as well.
I checked the Login Items in the preferences and the radio button was checked. So, that's not the case. Nor was I using any iPhone utility either.
Now, I tried all alternate USB ports on my Mac Pro and I also tried plugging into my iMac 20' 2.0Ghz Core 2 Duo. My iPhone is not recognized on either. I think it's something specific to iPhone v3.01 and 3.1 software. Because, I've not upgraded my iMac's iTunes yet. So, I think we can either rule out it being iTunes' fault. That or this iTunesHelper needs is broken... if that is the case.
So, do we have some better solutions to this problem?
PS: Oh, and yes, I did update iTunes to v9.0.1 on my Mac Pro. Still no response.

  • ITunes does not start automatically when iPod is connected

iTunes used to start automatically when I connected iTunes. It no longer does. Can I fix that?
    Dave

Connect your iPod and open iTunes. Towards the bottom of the iPod screen, there are four check boxes. The top one says "Open iTunes when iPod is connected." Check that box and click apply. If it is checked, uncheck it and click apply, eject and reconnect your iPod, then recheck it and click apply.

  • On my MBP iTunes won't start automatically when I connect my iPhone or iPad?

Today I encountered the following problem om my MBP:
When I connect my iPhone 3GS or iPad on the MBP, iTunes (v10.2.2) doens't launch automatically.
After self-starting iTunes I can synchronise and so on.
Can somebody tell how I can change this behaviour?
The iTunes-option "Voorkom automatische synch.... van iPods, ..." --> "do not automatically sync ... iPods, ..." isn't enabled.
    Many thx
    Gerd

Hmmm..uninstalled, reinstalled, ran Software Update...something patched in iTunes, now works like a charm

  • Itunes won't open automatically when I plug iphone in

I have recently had a lot of trouble syncing calendars with my iphone.  I have done all sorts of restarts etc.  One problem throughout (recent) is that when I plug my ipne in, itunes won't start up automatically and sync.  I cannot tick the box on itunes saying "open itunes when this phone is connected" as it is pale grey and won't let me.  Anyone any other ideas?  Everything is updated.
I am on a mac and running Mac OS  X version 10.6.7
    itunes version 10.2.2 (12)

    Thanks!
The likeliest possibility I can think of based on your symptoms is damaged Apple Application Support program files. (Much like iTunes versions 9.0.x, iTunesHelper requires a properly functioning Apple Application Support in order to work correctly.)
*Assuming that you don't have a Safari for Windows version 4.0.5 installed on that system,* I'd try the following technique with a 32-bit Vista:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2256037
*If you have a Safari 4.0.5 installed on the system* we'll need to try something different. (We need to make sure that you have an Apple Application Support 1.2.0 on the PC in order for Safari 4.0.5 to work ... at the present point in time, the procedure I outline above will only put an Apple Application Support version 1.1.0 back on your PC.)

  • ITunes doesn't launch automatically when iPhone is plugged in.

It used to be, that when I plugged my iPhone into my Mac, iTunes launched automatically. It stopped doing that.
If I launch iTunes myself the iPhone appears and everything works fine. I checked all the settings and asked the guy at the Genius Bar, but no joy. Anyone know what can cause this?

    Hey Alexander,
Has iTunes Helper been removed from the login items? Go to System Preferences> Accounts> Login Items.
You can add it again manually as described here: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1610692
you can also get it back by downloading and reinstalling the latest version of iTunes.

  • ITunes does not start up when iPod attached

This is a new problem. Don't know why. I have to start iTunes manually when I plug in the iPod. It then sees the ipod but does a very quick update. I don't know why itunes won't start up by itself anymore. Any yes, the box telling it to do so is still checked.
    Any thoughts?
    Dave

Try giving your iPod a reset. Hold in the menu button and center button at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

  • ITunes doesn't launch automatically when iPhone is connected

This used to work fine...I'd attached my iPhone 3GS to my MacBook via USB, iTunes would automatically launch and begin synching my iPhone. Then (I'm not exactly sure what happened...perhaps it was an update, or a spate of time when I was travelling and using a spotty wireless connection, I'm not sure), but for several weeks now, iTunes no longer autolaunches and synchs when I connect the iPhone.
    I did some tests:
iTunes does autolaunch when I connect my iPod Classic.
I can open iTunes manually, and iTunes sees my iPhone and syncs it automatically.
When I connect my iPhone, iPhoto does come up automatically if I have photos to sync.
The iPhone makes it's happy little connection sound when attached to the laptop via USB and still charges.
Under iTunes Preferences, Devices, I still have "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from synching automatically" unchecked.
So the only thing I can see that is not working here is autolaunch of iTunes via iPhone.
    I have iTunes 10.4(80)
    iPhone 4.3.5
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    Any ideas?

I’ve found another solution for those where this doesn’t resolve it.
    From user Crosbie at MacForums.com
You can extract iTunes Helper from the iTunes package, if you like, to replace the absent one.
It can be found by right-clicking the iTunes app and choosing 'Show Package Contents'; then navigate down to the 'MacOS' folder. You can then drag it to your open 'login items' window.
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1194774
This solved the issue for me, where unchecking and re-checking didn’t.

  • Itunes and Windows Explorer crash when ipod attached

Hi, for some reason my ipod has started to crash both my laptop and my home desktop computer whenever i attach it. It shows up in Windows Explorer but if i click on the icon it crashes the window. Similarly, Itunes opens if i attach my ipod but then freezes straight away, but then if i take out my ipod it starts to work fine again. Im starting to think that seeing as this is happening on more than one computer it might be a fault with the ipod. Any ideas?!
O and it's a 120gb ipod classic and im using the most up to date itunes on vista.
    Thanks alot

Im starting to think that seeing as this is happening on more than one computer it might be a fault with the ipod.
I'm with you on that. By any chance do you have a spare USB cable (or have access to a different one)? If so, try experimenting with connecting using the other cable. Do you still get the freeze with that?

  • My ipod 1st gen battery went totally dead because the usb cable was defective. I've changed the cable.  now when i connect my ipod to the netbook, itune is not launching automatically and windows does not recognize it......how can these issues be resolved

My ipod 32gb 1st generation battery went totally dead because the usb cable was defective.  I have since replaced the cable but now itune will not launch automatically as it did before and windows xp does not recognize it.  Nonetheless it is charging.  However can i resolve these issues bearing in mind that i am not tech savvy?

have since replaced the cable but now itune will not launch automatically as it did before and windows xp does not recognize it.
Try disabling a/v software and turn off the Firewall on your PC.
    Disable antivirus software
    Turn-Windows-Firewall-on-or-off
Then connect the iPod to your computer. Launch iTunes. If your computer still won't recognize the iPod check out this article.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
Once your iPod is functioning again, with it connected to your computer, launch iTunes. Select the iPod under Devices in the source list on the left.
Select the box next to:   Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
That way iTunes should open automatically when you connect your iPod to your computer.
And iTunes / Preferences - Devices. You can have your iPod sync automatically whenever it's connected from the Devices pane.
