ITune won't reconize my iPod

Sorry if this question has been repeated alot on the board, but I can't seem to find the iPod on the source list of iTune when I connected to the UBS. I use an iPod nano, window xp, and the latest version of iTune. Please help me.

Is your iPod recognized in "My Computer" as a device, or not?
If it isn't being recognized by your computer, as well as iTunes, then see this:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
If your iPod is showing up in Windows Explorer, but not appearing in iTunes, then see these:

iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod

the computer will but itunes won't please help

Have you tried putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer again? See if your iPod is recognized then.
If that doesn't help anything, take a look at these links:

  • ITunes won't reconize iPod is connected

Okay, my computer realizes my iPod is connected. I can go into the iPod itself from My Computer, explore the folders, so on and so forth. But iTunes won't reconize it's connected. anybody know how to fix this? Another problem I'm having has to do with my iPod itself. All my iTunes store bought music skips about half way through each song. How do i fix this problem as well?

If you're using USB port 1.1 (as opposed to 2.0), it could have a slower transferring/recognizing/processing speed.
Have you tried the The Five R's? For more info, read here, and here.
If that doesn't help, I would now suggest assigning your iPod a different drive letter. Follow these instructions here:
Log off of any other users on your computer.
1 - Don’t plug in your iPod yet (eject and disconnect it now if it is already plugged in to your computer).
2 - Go to "START -> Control Panel -> Admin Tools (if you don't see this, click on "classic view" button on the left panel) -> Computer Management."
3 - Click on the "Disk Management" button in the left panel area.
4 - Now, with "Computer Management" and Control Panel windows opened, reset your iPod, and connect it.
5 - Right-click on your iPod's listing there (after a few moments when it gets recognized in this drive window), and click on "Change Drive letter and Paths". Then the "Change..." button.
Here's what it should look like:
Assign your iPod the letter "M" "N", "O" or the like (further along in the alphabet).
For more details, see this article:
Windows confuses iPod drive letter / Changing drive letter
If your iPod isn't being recognized in the "Disk Management" view area, then try connecting your iPod in Disk Mode.

  • I deleted some Apple software, now iTunes won't recognize my iPod

So earlier today I removed Bonjour, and the Apple Mobile Device from my computer. Now all of a sudden iTunes won't recognize my iPod, but windows does. Could this issue be related to removing the software from my computer?

Take a look at this web page and see if it helps:

    Good luck.

  • ITunes won't recosginse my iPod for a factory reset

My iPod has been booting up then shutting down constantly till the battery runs out since yesterday, so I followed all the knowledge base articles and finally came to this
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
which seems to be the only thing left to try before it goes back to Apple. However, it requires me to click on the "summary tab" to reset to factory settings but I can't do that because iTunes won't recognise my iPod, it just says:
"Itunes cannot read the contents of iPod "MONKEYSIPO". Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings".
Windows does recognise it, however. Someone has posted that doing a quick format will reset the iPod the same way but I'm not conviced by that and don't fancy invalidating my warranty, so can someone confirm that or help me with the iTunes problem?
    Frankensteined Athlon2.3   Windows XP Pro

Never mind. I had to uninstall the iPod using the installation CD then uninstall iTunes 7, reinstall iTunes 6.05, reinstall the iPod updater software so I could restore the factory settings. Uber faff and 6 odd hours of installing, forum searching and rebooting my PC
Note to apple: Total integration of features isn't necesarily a good thing. Get your support sorted.

    - First see if resetting the iPod will make it visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible.  For recovery mode see:

  • ITunes won't recognize my iPod

I was synching my ipod the other night and iTunes crashed. After being connected for an hour it would not do anything. I went to task manager and it said iTunes was not responding. So I shut iTunes down from task manager. Now when I attach my iPod to my computer it is recognized in windows but iTunes does not recognize it and it won't synch. I have followed the first two steps in this link http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US and iTunes still does not recognize it. I was about to try the 3rd step which is this.
On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
In My Computer, open Local Disk C:.
    Open Documents and Settings.
Double-click the folder that bears your username.
If you see a Local Settings folder, skip to step 9. If you don't see a Local Settings folder, proceed to the next step.
On the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
Select the "Show hidden files and folders" button.
    Click OK.
    Double-click Local Settings.
Right-click on the Temp folder and on the shortcut menu, click Delete.
In the confirmation dialog that appears, click Yes.
If you are unable to delete the Temp folder, close all programs, especially those in the Notification area (system tray) of the Windows Task bar shown below and repeat step 10.
    Restart your computer.
Install the latest version of iTunes from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download and connect your iPod.
However, I can't find ANY of the folders they are talking about. I have windows vista on my laptop. I can't find a document and settings folder, a local settings folder, nor a Temp folder. I have selected to show hidden folders in the folder options menu. Can someone tell me how to follow this step (emptying the temp directory and restarting) on Windows Vista. OR, does anyone have any idea of what I can do to get iTunes to once again recognize my iPod.

Here is the latest update in my saga. I decided to hook my iPod classic to my desktop computer to see if the iTunes on there recognized it. I barely use this computer so it did not have an updated version of iTunes on it. After the drivers were updated I got a message in iTunes saying that Tiffany's iPod could not be used with this version of iTunes because it required version 7.6 or higher (or something like that). I took that as a good sign since iTunes obviously recognized the iPod long enough to correctly tell me the name of my iPod. However, after updating iTunes the desktop's iTunes did not recognize my iPod classic either. I have been trying to figure out what is wrong with this thing since Wednesday of last week. I am just really frustrated now. I was hesitant to reformat the iPod because I read in some other posts that people reformated the iPod and iTunes still didn't recognize it. At least now I do have some music on the iPod...but I guess at this point I have no other choices. Any other ideas out there I may be missing? And if I do have to reformat the iPod do I do that by going to my computer and reformating it there since iTunes doesn't recognize it which means I can't restore it using iTunes.

  • ITunes won't recognize my iPod touch after a failed update--my iPod is stuck on the "plug into itunes" screen

Yesterday, I had bought myself an ipod touch and it was working just fine until today when I went along with an itunes prompt to update my ipod.  It failed to update and now won't recognize it, I checked to see if it was recognized by my computer--and it is, but a thing pops up that says "access denied" whenever I try to click on it.  The screen on my ipod is stuck wanting me to connect to itunes.

    See Here  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
You may need to try this More than Once...
Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
But... if the Device has been Modified... this will Not necessarily work

  • New hard drive and ITunes won't recognize my IPod

Hi, I recently had to replace my hard drive. I had to download Itunes again. While trying to upload the songs from my IPod, the Itunes application tells me that my ipod belongs to another library and my only option is to sync the library with my ipod (erasing all my songs from my ipod) or upload all "purchased" Itunes from my ipod (which are only about 10 songs!). How do I make it so my library recognizes my ipod as its own and not "another"?
    Thanks.

Only the purchased iTunes songs can be copied from the iPod to iTunes - Unless you find some iPod hack program to access your iPod's library.
The best way to make sure you don't lose your songs on your iPod is to manually update your iPod.
    Loading songs onto iPod manually
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.1/en/2580.html
This setting allows you to drag & drop songs from your library to your iPod and won't ask you the "sync the library" question. You will have to manually eject your iPod before disconnecting it.
