Itunes 1.8 changed my ID3 tags

I am a DJ in Miami and use iTunes just to organize my music and change ID3 tags (need to access "BPM" and "Genre" field, other programs don't let me do that.
I noticed that some of my songs, after I refresh them, the BPM field get's deleted on some songs. For a DJ, this is VERY VERY VERY bad! Anyway way to go back to 7? I can't afford to lose my ID3 tags. Is this a bug?

Yes, overwriting the BPM tag is a bug in one of the recent iTunes releases. If you are not already on the very latest iTunes, upgrade and see if it has been fixed.

  • ITunes changes my ID3 tags... more info please.

    Hello,
I'm in the process of setting up a podcast on iTunes for my church. Here is the feed. http://www.christcommunity.org.au/feed/?post_type=sermons
Now, when I subscribe to the feed in iTunes and download a file, I notice that two important ID3 tags have changed.
    1. Album changes. In 'The Authority of Jesus.mp3', it is 'The Life of Jesus' on my web server but it is 'Christ Community Church » Sermons' when downloaded from iTunes.
    2. Contributing Artists changes. In 'The Authority of Jesus.mp3', it is 'David Cunningham' on my web server bu it is 'Christ Community Church' when downloaded from iTunes.
Why do these ID3 tags change? Thanks.

    Roger,
Thanks for your reply to my post. I am not concerned about what appears in iTunes as such, and I understand how that relates to the <iTunes:> tags in the feed. The Apple documentation is pretty clear on this.
However, in the feed, the file is specified by:
    <enclosure url="http://media.blubrry.com/christcommunitychurch/www.christcommunity.org.au/ wp-sermons/20110306-ChristCommunity-Mark1.mp3" length="8640981" type="audio/mpeg" />
Now, when I download the file from that URL and look at the ID3 tags, the Album is set to 'The Life of Jesus' and the Contributing Artists is set to 'David Cunningham'. When I download the same podcast episode through iTunes, using the same feed, the ID3 tags change, as specified in my original post.
The feed is created by Blubrry/PowerPress but this process does not alter the ID3 tags.
So the question still remains, why is iTunes changing my ID3 tags? Thank you for your assistance.

  • ITunes very slow when updating ID3 tags

    Greetings,
I've read about iTunes taking forever "processing file" when people have downloaded songs, but haven't seen a reference to this problem when changing the ID3 tags for songs within the program.
Sometimes it will take many seconds to complete this task, often with the "processing file" box showing up and sometimes with the spinning pinwheel too.
This hasn't always been such a slow process. Usually in the past my tags got updated instantaneously, even if I was changing, say, the album info for a whole batch of songs. More recently, iTunes has been consistently slow in carrying this out.
    Any insights would be appreciated.

I also noticed that when iTunes updates the files, it opens multiple little windows with progress bars (I think so because I see only one window but with a very significant shadow -- which look like if there were several windows stacked).
I SINCERELY hope I'm WRONG when I think iTunes does all the updating in parallel, regardless how many songs there are to update............? That would explain a lot...

  • ITunes Match always reverts my ID3 Tags after i fixed them

I am Running 11.1.3 iTunes on 10.9 OSX. I'm to trying to fix my ID3 Tags and every time i do, iTunes Match change them back to the old ones after sometimes 5 minutes, 10 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes. I can even sometime see how single tracks are reverting my changes. Also i'm not able to delete some tracks from the cloud, they always reappear again. I try to find a solution, but i only found one thread which sounded like the same problem i have. But i can confirm it does not have anything to do with the Store > Update iTunes Match Option. The Changes also reverted when i just restart iTunes or over time. The odd thing is when i do my changes, i can find the tracks on my iPhone / iPad till they automatically revert. It's quite frustrating that they is no option to 'override' the tags in the cloud or is there ?

It's starting to look like the problem was the music actually stored on the iPad.  Edits made in iTunes would propagate via iCloud to the iPad and affect e.g. Album cover, even album name or artist name.  But not grouping.  Syncing the iPad would break things in iTunes again, often by duplicating tracks.
I deleted everything off the iPad, and the cloud, and iTunes, re-imported, fixed the problems again, restarted iTunes Match -and the cloud based collection on the iPad is pretty much fixed.
I needed to re-acquire my iPad purchases with the iPad.  iTunes can't see them in the store even though it is the same appleId (!).
My classical music collection is trickier.  Suppliers of MP3 downloads appear to use the 'artist' tag inconsistently for composer, conductor, orchestra, soloist etc.  lots of CDs have two separate performances to make up space (e.g Christmas music by Vaughn Williams &amp; Hodie).   iTunes seems to be designed for nothing but pop music!  Although if you use 'composer' tags a 'composer' sort appears on the iPad.

  • How do i get all the tags i see in the iTunes library to be the ID3 tags?

I have a huge collection of mp3 in iTunes (the latest version), and they are all perfectly organized, but when i open those mp3 files in any other player i see old tags or no tags, because the id3 tags on the mp3 files are not the same as the ones i see on itunes. I've tried the "convert id3 tags" tool but it does not seem to help. How do i get the id3 tags to be the same as iTunes tags?

+HEy any reason why you pick version 2.3,+
itunes didn't work well with 3rd-party plugins and v2.4, and former forum regular Otto told me to use v2.3

  • How do I add album artwork to iTunes, but NOT to the ID3 tag, manually?

I imported a lot of mp3s into iTunes. After some messing about with ID3 tags, I got iTunes to download most of the Artwork for my albums.
I've found a lot of the other covers using Slothradio, and I started to copy the images into iTunes. However, I noticed that it was actually adding the images into the ID3tags.
When I checked the music for which iTunes downloaded the covers, it DIDN'T put the artwork into the tags.
So, how do I add the covers to iTunes like it does itself, without putting them in the ID3 tags?
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • Scramble song title even changing the ID3 tag

Song title is all scramble up after adding in to Itunes.. why ? espcially the chinese charactors....

The iTunes Help Menu as well as the forums is a great resource for information about iTunes and "how to".
    From the iTunes Help Menu:
    Editing song information:
When you're connected to the Internet, you can retrieve information about the songs on a CD from Gracenote CDDB (CD database) on the Internet. You can also enter song information into iTunes yourself, or change the information that was retrieved.
    1. Select the song you want to edit, then choose File > Get Info.
    2. Click Info.
    3. Make your changes to the song information, then click OK.
By default, changing information in iTunes also changes the name of the song on your hard disk. To make changes in iTunes without changing the files on your hard disk, choose iTunes > Preferences, then click the Advanced button and click General. Then click to remove the checkmark next to Keep iTunes Music Folder Organized.
You can also make global changes by selecting a group of songs the key board short cut of CMD-I (Apple Key +I).

  • ITunes changing the ID3 tags and deleting music after syncing or opening

After syncing (or opening iTunes), iTunes changes the tags in about 25% of my music (this time it was about 90% affected). It removes the total track number on some of the songs. This has been a consistent problem. I noticed that it also actually erased some of my music, random tracks in my library are now missing (gone in windows explorer also). I have reformatted my iPod and restored it, it's not that. What is going on!! Going through and fixing 7500 songs every time I sync is ******* me off
Here is a picture of what it is doing: removing the total track on some songs
    http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u233/jupiterssj4/itunes.jpg
Forgot to mention that it also copied the artist field data to the album artist field... had to erase all of those too

Mine is doing the exact same thing. It happens every time I click on a song. Weird letter-number strings are inserted into the Comments field, my album art is gone, and the track numbers are messed up.
I've tried upgrading to the new iTunes. I tried reinstalling iTunes. I turned off my soundcheck option and deleting potentially comprised files. Nothing's worked.
I've tried emailing Apple directly and got no help. Anyone know what's going on???

  • ITunes 6.0 messing up ID3 tags and file names

Hey guys, i have just upgraded to iTunes 6.0. I have noticed that this new version is messing up my mp3 file names. When i start up iTunes, there would be files that have their Title, artist and other info either missing, reverted to the original mp3 file name or changed to something else. This is incredibly annoying and troublesome as i have a lot of mp3 files. Does anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to the world of Gracenotes. This is the database that Itunes reads to name your files. Apple pays a royalty to these clowns and this is what you get; misspellings and just plain wrong info.
I constantly sort and edit my 1300 CD collection so I would suggest you learn to do the same within iTunes. If the author names are reversed, fix one then copy. Itunes will let you select and change multiple fields once you learn to do multiple selection..not hard but tedious at times.
Apple needs to threaten to let us use the free CDDB for an alternate look up and a swap button on authors names, and so forth..

  • ITunes Does Not Recognize my ID3 Tag Information Correctly

Hello every buddy. I am a new iTunes 6 user
( build 6.0.2.23 to be correct).
I have a few hundred fully tagged MP3 music files. I have tagged them mostly with ID3Tag and Amarok for Linux. All tags are displayed correctly in: amarok, konqueror, my creative zen touch, windows explorer, windows media player, and ID3Tag. But iTunes dosen't recognize tags of more than half of my collection. For all the files that it doesn't recognize the tags, it displays an empty value for album and artist entries, and a number for the genre (eg., if the genre is Trance, iTunes shows 33). Most of my tags are V2.3 and I have tagged both Version 1 and 2 tags exactly the same.
Where should be the problem? Does iTunes not recognize version 1 or 2.3? so why it does recognize my other Tags?
Any help or suggestion is most appreciated

  • I changed the id3 tags of some mp3's how do i get my library to update?

I have the latest version of itunes and i thought I used to be able to click an update button, but now I cant find the way to do this. ANyone know what i might be doing wrong?

File/sync iPod. However, a sync should take place automatically when you connect the iPod, and this will reflect the changes you made to your library.

  • Question about id3 tags

i had all of the fields of all my songs just how i liked them. i thought itunes had written everything i had edited into the id3 tags of all the songs. apparently, it didn't work.
i am using another software called serato. i took the mp3's whose tags i edited in itunes and imported them into serato. i know this program is able to read all versions of tags, so i found a suggestion someone made to strip the id3 tags. this process called for selecting all the songs, converting the id3 tags to "none", then changing them back to a certain version (v2.3 or v2.4).
after doing this, i take a look at my itunes library and about 80% of all my songs have their tags messed up. either the genre is back to what it was before i changed it a while ago, or (more annoyingly) the song titles are all truncated to a certain length.
    1. is there any way to undo this? or am i going to have to manually go back and re-edit all the fields?
    2. is there a better way of ensuring itunes is correctly changing the id3 tag fields? for example. if i edit the id3 tags on itunes on one profile on my mac, then take the same mp3 file and import it into itunes on another profile, the id3 tags seem to not have been changed at all.
help anyone? this whole thing has got me really frustrated. thanks in advance.

In Serato setup, check box Read iTunes Library. However this doesn't solve the problem, only creates yet another location for cleaning up....
Having somewhat same issue: Converted all id3 from iTunes succesfully, but couldn't import files correct on other macbook in iTunes (same version)?!?!? Doesn't read id3...

  • ITunes sometimes changes ID3 Tags/Deletes Art

    Hi
I currently keep all my MP3's ID3 tags as 2.2, as that version is what seems to allow the artist/album information to show up in the actual file info in my My Music folder.
Sometimes, when scrolling through on iTunes, an album's art will suddenly turn blank, and all of the songs in that album have turned to 2.3, and occasionally added things like composer and album artist, which I prefer to keep blank. I have to then select them all, change the ID3 tags back to 2.2, then paste the album back.
Why is iTunes doing this? Is 2.2 not the ideal ID3 tag for files?
Oh, and extra details if it helps. I'm running the most current version of iTunes, and all of my music is from CD's (so nothing from the iTunes store)

I agree with polydorus. It's WMP making hte changes. Esp since itunes by default uses ID3 v2.2, not v2.3 tags.
Also, it doesn't matter if you never use WMP - its default settings allow webpages to open WMP in the background without you even knowing.
You need to turn this auto-update "feature" off in WMP in 4 places.
Player tab: everything unchecked so WMP won't touch your files
Library tab: everything unchecked, esp the box to retrieve info from the internet
Privacy tab: everything unchecked, esp the box to update files
Security tab: everything unchecked so web pages can't launch WMP in the background
You also need to check these 4 settings after every windows update that includes a WMP update, because it has reset them back to some of the defaults, I have noticed.

  • Can't change ID3 tags in iTunes 10?

Ever since the update to 9.2, iTunes seems to have lost the ability to convert ID3 tags.
Prior to 9.2 (and obviously, 10.x) I would be able to add mp3s to my library, select all of the newly added tracks, then Control click and change all of my ID3 tags to NONE to strip it of any extraneous info, wait for iTunes to rescan everything, and then I'd re-convert my ID3 tags to 2.3.
Since the update(s), it'll allow you to go through the motions, but the tracks don't actually rescan. I'll try to convert to NONE and nothing happens.
This is an important function for me because I use iTunes in conjunction with Serato for DJing and sometimes Serato has trouble reading a track if the ID3 tag is an older version.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this merely an oversight by Apple's iTunes team or is there a known reason why this function was removed?
p.s. -- I have always been under the impression that you cannot change an ID3 tag from say, 2.1 to 2.3, without first converting the ID3 tag to NONE first. If this is no longer the case, can someone please enlighten me?

A rare but maddening problem, probably limited to older MP3 files,
Mac/Windows MP3 files that do not play in iTunes but play in QuickTime
There is a problem with some mp3 files not playing in iTunes
because of the ID3 tag headers in the files. For Mac OS you
can fix these files by processing them with XLD (X Lossless Decoder),
    a free download.
    1. Select the Input MP3 files
    2. Set the output format to MP3 Lame in the XLD preferences.
    3. Unless you select a directory for output different from input,
the output file names will have a number added to the name.
The selected files are processed on my machine at about 30x or
about 2 minutes per hour of play time. I was unable to fix these
files using right click->Get Info in iTunes.
On my MacBook Pro , trying to run on of these problem MP3
files, locked up iTunes. Force Quit on iTunes was not enough
to get iTunes 10.1 to run again. I had to restart the machine.
I think this is the first time I have ever had to restart my
machine for a problem with an App. From my reading on the web,
I can see this problem has existed at least since iTunes 7.x
On Windows, you may be able to fix this problem using
    MP3TagValidator.
No need to throw away those bad MP3 files!

  • Are anyone else's ID3 tags all jacked up after upgrading to iTunes 11?

I have a large library that I'm downright OCD in managing tag information. All are set at v2.4 and genres, album artist, groups, both track and cd #'s as well as album art have been MANUALLY scrubbed religiously upon import to ensure a manageable library. I've noticed in the past that iTunes does a fairly horrible job in actually changing the ID3 tag info of the AAC or MP3 file itself resulting in horrible tag info when using the files in another system (Chrysler's MyGig system, Microsoft's Sync system, etc.) but iTunes always listed the songs correctly, making my smart playlists, sort and playback very easy and clean. That is until I upgraded to iTunes 11. Apparently they've re-read all the file ID3 tag info as I now have MANY different genres listed and album artist info has disappeared as well as track listing info. Do I need to get an external tag editor and redo all the tag editing I had done previously to now clean this up or have they fixed iTunes to do a better job of actually editing the file info itself?

Get Info on the song within iTunes is how I know the comment field is empty.
I don't have Match or iCloud enabled.
All other tag info is there and left untouched, only the comment field is blank. Tried removing and re-adding the tracks multiple times, but that didn't help.
Reason this annoys me is that I add information to my comment field such as additional genre/style information, band origin or location, related artists, etc. Very helpful stuff for smart playlists.
I can try Stephen Spark's suggestion to convert my ID3 tag version, but I've never, ever had to do that before, so, if iTunes 11 is suddenly only reliably reads one correctly it seems to be a bug with iTunes.
