Itunes 10.1.2 freezes during movie playback
I have several movies that were purchased through the itunes store.
I can't play them using my macbook air 11.6
The first part of the movie will play, then the video and audio will lock up (not comfortable on your ears when this happens)
Opening / closing itunes does not correct this problem.
I've also repaired permissions on my disk.
I am also unable to skip forward on any of my movies. It will play the first chapter then lock up.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
First try running software update, itunes 10.2 was released last week. If that does not solve your problem then go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist and drag that plist file to your desktop. Then restart iTune and try again.

IPod 5G Freezes during Video Playback
iPod freezes during video playback. Does anybody else have this problem?
Usually freezes up about 10 minutes into a video, and then complety locks up. This usually requires 2 to 3 restarts untill it comes back working properly.Mine does the same. It really only happens to me when I try to navigate thru menus when video is playing. I usually have to do a forced Reset. I truly think that introducing video on the iPod was not ready for primetime as it is very sluggish, buggy and sensitive during playbabck of video. No problems with music whatsoever but I am frustrated with the very finicky video qualities of this thing.

My Apple TV stops and returns to main menu during movie playback and photo slide show via homesharing. I have a second Apple TV in another room that works fine.
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel. -

ITunes 11.1.3 issues - freezing during audio playback.
Like many other folks on here, I'm having some playback issues with iTunes 11.1.3.
Macbook (couple years old) 2.4 mhz 2 core- 4 gigs ram
We use this computer primarily for music playback for dance classes and performances. Have run dozens of shows over the last year or so with zero issues.
There *might* be a better playback software option, but iTunes doesn't get in the way with too many options, has (up until now) been rock solid, and has never let us down, and is less prone to user error causing huge WHOOPS during something important.
That is, until 11.1.3. Didn't really notice any issues at first, but wife came home from a dress rehearsal Wednesday evening and complained - "it froze a couple of times while playing back Act 1. What's wrong with my computer?". (Act 1 - approx 50 minutes of music - 40ish total cuts).
I looked at it - she had a ton of other stuff running - mail - wifi - DVDPlayer - iPhoto - you name it. I figured that was the problem, shut all the other stuff off, and figured it was solved.
Nope - I'm running audio during our final tech rehearsal this evening before performances start in the morning.
35 or 40 minutes in - froze again during a track.
It just stopped - buttons became unresponsive - beachball came up - we waited a minute - and then it freaked out while trying to catch up with anything I had pressed, skipped around a bit, then resumed acting normal again.
Took a short break - checked nothing else was running that didn't need to be and made some adjustments:
Wifi off
Cloud off
Check downloads, sync, podcasts ... all off.
Reset all warnings. Reset cache ( which took a surprising amount of time)
Match and Genius, off
Opened Acitvity Monitor and stopped any processes that were not essential
Reboot ....
Another 30 or 40 minutes later - froze again.
Luckily, the lighting guy had a PC laptop with him. I quickly authorized his computer, transferred everything, and the rest of the evening went without a glitch.
Not sure what to do next. I'm pretty sure it's NOT the computer.
Disk checks OK. All hardware test are OK.
Couple of observations:
1. If I repair permissions - it finds a TON of messed up (?) iTunes permissions and fixes them. One day later, it find just as many again. What's up with that?
2. If I watch disk access in the Actiity monitor during playback - on occassion there's a WRITE spike. Odd. What's it writing? This is with NOTHING ELSE running but iTunes, which didn't glitch during the spike, but still, what's that? A contributing factor? A clue?
3. CPU and memory use looked OK. Haven't managed to get it to glitch again while I'm actually watching this though.
Between what I've tried, and what I've read here, I'm pretty convinced our Macbook isn't at fault here. I'm pretty sure there's a problem with 11.1.3
If anybody has other observations or suggestions, I'l love to hear them. Are these recent releases?
I had troubles right after iTunes 10 came out because Digital copies were misreading "10" as "1" since the version check script was only looking for a single digit version number. Newer releases shouldn't have this, but if it's more than two years old, it might do this. -
Apple TV 2 - Not synching correctly during movie playback
Hi all,
Recently bought the new Apple TV and have set it up fine. During some movies playback I notice the picture starts to jerk and then the sound is about 1-2 seconds ahead of the picture. To rectify this I have to pause the video, then play. When I pause, I can see the video playing catchup to whichever point in the sound I paused it at.
Is anyone else having this issue? Or does anyone know what the cause of this issue is?
The movie plays fine on my iMac with no synching issues. Im assuming its because my iMac is running and using its processors at that given moment. Some of my movies are MKV files encoded to MP4 via Handbrake.
Some help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
CheersIt could well be because your Mac is heavy on resource usage running handbrake which will use as much CPU power as is available to do the job.
Having said that I've seen this occasionally with ATV1 and ATV2, and recently I've wondered if it's iTunes doing something else eg automatically downloading a subscription podcast, and effectively freezing to other processes like AppleTV streaming as it saves a podcast to disc.
The other obvious candidate is the network not quite keeping up with streaming demands and running slightly behind.
Try playback without Handbrake or other intensive processes running - does it behave better? -
Apple TV freezing on movie playback
My apple TV keeps freezing on movies that have already been previously purchased. So far 3 different movies will play for about 15 to 20 min then freeze. I have to go out to menu then resume play. The movie shows that it has fully downloaded on the bar.
The Apple TV 2 is not supposed to show up under devices in iTunes.
Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Also try restarting the router.
If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123. -
Keynote quits during movie playback
I use Keynote 6.5.2 for presentations in my classroom on my Mid 2010 Mac Mini (10.10.2). Over the last month, whenever I play an imbedded movie, Keynote will randomly exit at any time in the movie to the desktop. It looks similar to following a hyperlink, only Safari does not open. The green "resume" arrow on the Keynote icon is visible on the dock and will return me to the movie, but it will start the movie over. Could anyone please offer a solutions to this annoyance?
I figured out that deleting the quicktime-cache should help. I tried it. Now I can watch converted videos, tv-series without proplems.
But iTunes still freezes when I want to watch a movie rental, when direct3d acceleration is of... -
Itunes 10.6.3 freezing during manual sync on Macbook pro
Hello all,
I am having more problems with my Ipod classic syncing on my new macbook than on the windows systems, which comes as a shock. I have restored the ipod more than once but the same problem occurs, when I add music over 24-25 Gb it starts to freeze - itunes won't respond I need to shut down .. after this the ipod works like normal.
here is the error report
it is pretty long, hoping someone can make sense of it

80 Gb ipod classic causes itunes 8.02 to freeze during sync
Itunes 8.02 w/ 80Gb Ipod classic. Owned and synced to same mac for a year. No hardware changed.
Initial problem occurred over a week ago when connecting ipod to mac. Error popped up and told me I would have to restore ipod to factory settings. Clicked on restore. ipod rebooted and cleared itself.
Since then I have trouble syncing completely. Ipod and itunes seemed to be syncing properly but slowly and then stopped with progress bar still-came back over an hour later, and progress bar still at same place and sync icon on itunes and ipod still spinning. Tried to cancel, change settings, and/or do anything in itunes and it freezes with spinning cursor. Will not force-quit. I have to manually reset or unplug ipod from connector to resume.
I have been able to load music (9.96Gb) onto ipod by disabling auto-sync, syncing of podcasts(over 300), 1 audiobook, and 1 .pls file-radio station (which never tried to synced to ipod before). All of these items I have had long before the problem. I loaded a new cd into itunes and created a new playlist. Itunes accepted this with no problem. Ipod will not sync the new music when I manually click sync.
*if thread already exists please send link-tried problem solving using other posts, but to no luck
ThanksI found someone online who has the same problem, and claims that it can be fixed by reformatting the ipod in windows. I currently have not yet tried this, but I have tried reformatting it through disk utility on my mac pro, but to no avail.
I am planning on trying to reformat it through windows, and I will let you know what the outcome is when I get around to it.
Here is the link I found http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/550903
I hope that this may be useful to all the other people with this problem. -
Trying to down load itunes but it keeps freezing during down load :(
I cant download itunes for my ipod i was given by a friend ? im new to it all ? also while trying to download itunes it always freezes on me???
I would suggest giving us more details and clarify both questions.
From your message, I got these two questions, please confirm that they are the right ones:
1) You were given an iPod from a friend and you want to load your music onto it?
2) When you're downloading the iTunes program from the internet, your browser becomes unresponsive and freezes?
If those aren't the correct questions, please take time to write them in a way that we'll understand exactly what you're trying to do.
Once we have an idea of what you're asking, we can try to answer properly.

ITunes Version 11.1.3 (8) - Movie Playback Issues
I have just updated to iTunes Version 11.1.3 but every time I play a movie, the video screen keeps closing and going back to the open screen. It doesn't actually close the movie though because the sound keeps playing. I have to stop the movie and restart it. It will return to the movie but this can happen up to ten or more times while watching the movie. I have reinstalled the software without luck. Any ideas please?
Hi Mervin Zeiss,
I have been using iTunes since yesterday without an issue, so fingers crossed the problem is solved.
I spoke to an Apple technician who asked me to put the following files and folders onto my desktop and if iTunes works without them to put them in the bin. I haven't thrown the files away yet but things are definitely looking promising to do so.
The files are:
File: com.apple.iTunes.plist
Folder: com.apple.iTunes.savedState
Please note that I am not advising you in anyway to delete these files from your computer. I have no idea what they do and I only did so as instructed by an Apple technician. If you believe this may help may I recommend you back up all of your computer and seek advice from someone in the know.
Good Luck - Insumo -
Itunes 7.7.1 freezes during installation
When i try to install Itunes 7.7.1 the installations freezes (it looks likes it's still working on it. but i've tried waiting for hours and nothing happens) as soon as i gets to the "installation" part.
It's the same both when i use the software updater, and when i try to download the installer directly from apple.com
i'm useing Maac OS X 10.4.11, and i don't have any old versions of itunes installed.
Anyone got any suggestions as to what i can try?I have exactly the same issues with my new 80G iPOD. I have found that when connecting to my PC, the iPOD does not start iTUNES 7. This can be resolved by stopping the iPOD Service in Computer Management, connecting the iPOD and then starting it again. Then when you start iTUNES it finds the iPOD. - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
Seems like a stupid long-winded way to do things, but at least you can get some stuff on to your iPOD.
As far as using Restore goes - I just get the restoring iPOD message you described, which it blatantly isn't :((

Black screen during movie playback
I have three downloaded movies in my iTunes library - 2 that I purchased several years ago on a previous computer and re-downloaded onto my new computer from the cloud (when I was living in the US) and one that I rented just recently and downloaded to my iTunes (now I am living in Tanzania, so that took quite some time to download). When I try to play any of them through iTunes, the screen is completely black, even though the movie timer is ticking down as if it's actually playing. No sound, no picture.
Can anyone help? Thank you!I am deployed in Iraq and have only my 1st gen iPad with me. I purchased 4 movies via iTunes however, the internet here is very bad and there were a ton of interruptions so it took almost 4 days to complete all the downloads. When I started watching one of my movies, it froze and the display went black. I to tried a restart first on the video application and then on the iPad itself to no avail. It wasn't until I reset all settings in the general tab of the systems settings did the video application start responding but if I tried to play the same move, it would do it all over again. When I go to iTunes and do a check for downloads, nothing is there however, I believe that with all the interruptions, bits were missed in the download process and iTunes simply cannot detect it. Also, if I do delete the movies in question, I will have to buy them again because the iPad hasn't been synced to my computer thus no transfer has taken place. Apple either provide a workaround for re-downloading movies free of charge to iPads or refund us our money for content that you have failed to deliver.....
-
I can't explain it. Everytime I play a movie it freezes after the first few seconds and I have to reset. I can't play any movie without this happening. Playing music seems fine but only happens when I play movies. It just started doing this today.
I did a restore thinking it might have been the software but it is still doing it.
