ITunes 10.1 home sharing problem

i can't believe there is no fix for this. i am having problem with iTunes 10.1 using home sharing.
i have a PC & a laptop both running windows 7 64bit.
i have the windows home group enabled on both & can share files effortlessly with each other outside of iTunes.
i have just updated to itunes 10.1 hoping that the update would fix the problem. it didn't.
i have both itunes open. both are signed into the same account (i only have 1)
on the PC i can see the laptop & i can play music from it or transfer etc.
on the laptop i cannot see the PC. the home sharing icon is not there.
i have done all the usual stuff. turn off & on home sharing & also the sharing under preferences. i have even de-authorized both & re-authorized. signed out & back in to iTunes.
i just don't know where to go from here. i want the PC to show up as i have all my music & some movies on that.
i got the new apple tv 2.0 & it also only shows the laptop & not the PC.
update:
i just tried using a different router. as soon as i set it up, both machines seen each other. the main router i use is the Netcomm NB9WMAXXn. the router that i got to work is an Asus WL-AM604g.
i can't believe the Netcomm is the problem as i don't have an issue networking outside of iTunes.
maybe a setting? i even factory reset the Netcomm. no luck.
any help would be very much appreciated......

I had the exact same problem between my two Windows 7 computers when I updated them to iTunes 10.1 - the shared library would show up on the side in iTunes, but when I attempted to open it, it would say it was loading for a while and then disappear.
I solved the problem by first turning off Home Sharing on both computers Advanced->Turn Off Home Sharing (act name).
I then deauthorized the iTunes account associated with my home share on both computers Store->Deauthorize This Computer...
I then reauthorized both computers Store->Authorize This Computer...
I then turned Home Sharing back on for both computers Advanced->Turn On Home Sharing
After following these steps, I am able to use home sharing again.

  • HT4557 Win 7 with iTunes, iPad3 and Home Sharing Problem

    Hi All
I have a Windows 7 PC with iTunes installed and Home Sharing turned on. I also have an IOS 6 Ipad (New or 3) with sharing enabled. They are both on the same wireless network.
After a total uninstall and  fresh instal of iTunes on the PC, all sharing works fine with all albums and artists displayed, and it plays tunes perfectly. Within a couple of days, the iPad only displays a small number of my albums, and they wont play. The 'loudspeaker icon' in 'Music' just skips down the list of songs, playing none.
I have tried, different versions of iTunes, different pcs (with Win 7), a different router but get the same issue each time.
Anyone know what is happening. I did only notice this after the compulsory download of IOS 6....
    Regards
    SjH

Home sharing problem: I have never set up home sharing but I feel I the concept and how it works.  I recently (last 2 months or so) deauthorized, first time ever, all computers with my iTunes account. I have 3 computers authorized.  I am trying to set up home sharing but get  iTunes says:
"Home Sharing could not be activated because this computer is not authorized for the Apple Id "#########@###.com". Would you like to authorize now?"  I click "authorize" and get the next error " You cannont authorize more than 5 computers.  You have already authorized 5 computers with this Apple ID.  To authorize this computer you must first deauthorize one of the other computers."
Can someone help or shed more light on my problem?

Home Sharing is designed to work on your local network not across the internet/cloud.
Stuff is accessed under the Computers column where your local iTunes library on a local computer would appear.
Home Sharing would share your iTunes content (i.e. stuff stored in itunes on the computer, not in the cloud) with AppleTV or an iPad etc on the SAME network.
AppleTV2 will not be able to see itunes content on the work computer over the internet.  It's not designed to.  if the work computer was on the home network it would.
iCloud is in it's infancy and is not a mature product - iTunes TV Show purchases appear on AppleTV, but currently music does not unless you are subscribed to iTunes Match. I find this rather odd to be honest, along with the inability to buy music on AppleTV2.  Movies purchased in iTunes are not authorised for iCloud viewing currently either.
Maybe it has something to do with iTunes Match 'getting in the way' - i think they assume you'll use that whereas you really want to be able to access Purchased music from the cloud without subscribing to itunes Match which is overkill for some.

  • Home Sharing Problem: Import Button & "Show" Dropdown menu are missing?

    Hi Everyone,
My wife and I are both running iTunes on Macbook Pros and we are both logged into eachother's iTunes libraries through Home Sharing accounts. However, the Import button on the bottom has disappeared, so has the "Show" dropdown menu that is typically to the left of the Import button on the bottom of the screen when you are in the other person's Music Library. The Show dropdown memu typically displays the options: All and Not in Library. We can play and listen to each other's music, however we can't Import songs. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this problem??
    Thanks,
    Patrick

To clarify as I have this problem repeatedly here is the description and the cure.
Sharing is enabled in the sharing tab.  Other computers can see this computers library but cannot import.  The icon for the home sharing doesn't show the "house" - it just shows some musical notes.
This means that home sharing is not enabled.  JUST SHARING.
In Itunes 11 use: File/Menu/Home Sharing/Turn on Home sharing.
    But you are not done.
When home sharing shows up now in the left panel - click it. The right panel will present a sign on for your apple ID.  Sign on and enable home sharing.
Then you will be able to import form the target computer again.
It gets disabled with OS upgrades and sometimes with iTunes updates.

  • Can't access itunes store or home sharing on apple tv, apple tv 2 keeps saying that network time needs to be set.

Cant acess itunes store or home sharing on apple tv 2, keeps telling me that network time needs to be set. When I go to time zone section on apple tv - I chose a city...but still no luck. Apparently, can't do anything without the time being set. How do I set this up?

Yes, I did (turning off and then on again is a way of life for any windows user!). Actually, through a process of trial and error I have fixed the problem although I'm not very comfortable with the fix. For some reason, the OS X firewall is to blame. By relaxing the firewall settings to their most lenient, the iTunes store is now fully accessible via iTunes, and so is the whole of the apple website. Another added side effect has been that general web browsing is now lightning fast.
I'm therefore left with the (temporary) conclusion that my iMac's internal firewall is only capable of blocking access to the web resources of the people who created it, and slowing my web browser to a crawl.

  • IPhone Home Sharing problems

Here is my home sharing problem.  I have 3 devices, a MacBook Air, a PC running Windows 7, and an iPhone 4.  All software is up to date.  ITunes is installed on both computers, and the exact same Apple ID and password have been entered for home sharing on all devices.  The iPhone's music library will NOT show up in any of the Home Sharing folders in the other computers.  However, the Mac and PC libraries DO show up in the iPhone, so the password is correctly entered.  All computers have been activated and reactivated, restarted, iTunes reinstalled, my router has been reset, firmware up to date.  Music from the other computers can be played through Home Sharing on the iPhone, but the iPhone library will not show up in the other computers.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks in advance!
    - Cole

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Cannot home share the game app purchased at iTunes store. Home sharing music works. Home sharing books works. But, when I try to copy the game app, it says my computer is not authorized. What am I doing wrong?

Cannot home share the game app purchased at iTunes store. Home sharing music works. Home sharing books works. But, when I try to copy the game app, it says my computer is not authorized. What am I doing wrong?

I've been struggling with a similar issue myself and just figured it out.  Some of my content had been purchased with an older Apple ID that I don't use any more.  When I authorized my second computer, I only authorized it for my new Apple ID, not my old one.  When I tried to copy my library to the new computer, many songs, apps, etc. reported the error "could not be copied because this computer is not authorized".  It drove me crazy because I knew the computer was authorized and much of my library came over just fine.
Finally I selected some of the problem items, selected "Get Info" from the menus, and saw that they were all purchased by my old Apple ID.  I then authorized my old Apple ID on my new computer, and all of my files are copying correctly now.
Would be great if the message said something like "...because this computer is not authorized for Apple ID [email protected]"

  • How do you connect ipad 2 to itunes library using home sharing

How do you connect the ipad 2 to the itunes library using home sharing so you can listen on your ipad 2? I've seen directions for the ipad which tell you how to setup home sharing then open ipod and touch library in the left column, but when I hit library, nothing happens. I'm assuming the ipad 2 has something different about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.
PS, the OS is 4.3.3 (just got it but it's not on the os list)

See iTunes 9- Understanding Home Sharing and iTunes- Troubleshooting Home Sharing.  Also, open iTunes, select iTunes Help from the Help menu and search for "home shar."

All of your computers content are available in the AppleTV section called "Computer".  This is where you will find your music.
The Music section of the AppleTV is only for those who subscribed to iTunes Match.

  • I have Itunes 11 and home sharing isnt in the side bar

I have logged in my home sharing and used it before but when I updated to itunes 11 its no longer in the side bar.

    Hi, emmyluvsmusiq.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I would verify that home sharing is enabled.  You will need to access the menu bar which is hidden by default.  To enable the menu bar, you can press Control-B.  Once this is done, select File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing.  Follow the same steps with the devices that are using this feature.

  • ITunes Match and Home Sharing

My husband and I use Home Sharing, and we can access each other's music (purchased under our own Apple IDs). Does iTunes Match support Home Sharing or do we both need an annual subscription for iTunes Match?

    No.

iTunes Match does not work this way. The service is associated with one iTunes Store Apple ID and the geographical store used to purchase items. The service cannot be shared among Apple IDs. Additionally, if iTunes Match or automatic downloads are enabled, or if past purchases are re-downloaded using one Apple ID the computer or device is then associated to that Apple ID for 90 days and is locked out of logging into another Apple ID for 90 days.

  • Is there any way to hide certain artists/albums in my iTunes library from Home Sharing?

Is there any way I can hide some of my music from other people, like my sister, while they are accessing my iTunes library with Home Sharing?
I have a few personal recordings that I don't want anyone but me to have access to.
Is deleting them from my library the only option?

It's not an ideal solution ... but have you considered creating a second library (called, say, "Private Library") containing just the personal recordings?
To create the private library, hold down the shift key while launching iTunes. Click "Create Library" in the dialog that comes up.
Once you've created and opened the "Private library", don't activate home sharing for it. Now go "Edit > Preferences". In the "Advanced" tab, select "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library", as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click OK.
Now add the personal recordings to the Private Library.
To get back to your original library, quit iTunes. Hold down the Shift key while launching iTunes ... but this time click the "Choose library" button. Browse to the iTunes library file for your original library and doubleclick that. You should now be seeing your original library.
Delete the personal items from your original library.
Now, in order to see those recordings in iTunes, all you have to do is do a "Choose library" when launching iTunes, and open Private library. Because Home sharing isn't activated for Private library, your sister won't be able to access those recordings. (She won't be able to access your original library either, though, when you have Private library running.)

Have done both suggestions, still not working. Could it have somehting to do with my local network? I am using a wireless Internet provided by my apartment building so not sure if apple tv and my computer are not technically on the same "local network?"
apple tv and main computer are connecting to Internet fine. Just cannot see my itunes on apple tv.
any other advice? My itunes is turned on to home sharing. i entered the same apple itunes account into aple tv. but appletv keeps saying my computer's home sharing is not turned on...but it is.
