Itunes 10.1 Windows 7 and missing airport express speakers

First, let me say that although this is my first post, I have been lurking here and exploring the forums for a long time. I have windows 7 64bit, an airport express (so that I can play my music remotely on my stereo) and an ipad. Everything works great under itunes 9.x. However, I wanted to upgrade my ipad, which required me to upgrade to itunes 10.x. The ipad update went well, but I no longer have the option to select my remote speakers in itunes or the remote app on the ipad.
I have searched the forums and have performed the following: 1) unselected and reselected both homesharing and folder sharing in itunes, 2) Unselected and reselected 'search for remote devices' in itunes, 3) Changed settings in windows firewall to ensure the 'private' profile for itunes had both udp and tcp protocols, with transverse edge detection on, 4)reset windows firewall and then reinstalled itunes 10.x at least four times, 5)ensured that I can reach my airport express through airport utility on that same computer.
I am at my wits end with this. If I try to reinstall itunes 9.x, it tells me that my library has already been updated and itunes 9 does not open. I would really like to be able to run version 10 and would appreciate any further suggestions.
Thanks,
Brock

Just to let everyone know. I believe my issue was with Comodo Internet Security software. Even though I had the firewall portion off, after uninstalling the airport express speakers came back. Note...I had this configuration working fine with iTunes 9, but 10 must've had some underlying changes.

  • Upgraded to iTunes 11.0.5 and now Airport Express doesn't work

Just installed the iTunes 11.0.5 update and now I can't get my Airport Express to work.  iTunes won't play and says it can't recognize the Airport Express device.  Even when re-booted at both the iMac and the Airport Express - the link is broken.  iTunes won't even play the media when the Airport Express is selected -- but the Apple TV and the Computer both work well.   Never had this issue before the 11.0.5 update.  Any thoughts or assistance?

Thank you very much for your reply. I did find 2 previous iTune libraries but they seem to be empty.
Your advice on back up is gratefully noted ... I always assumed Time Machine would do the job.
I guess like many people I've spoken to it's time to move away from Apple ...a declinig market may be the only thing which will make them realise they need to be more responsive to and respectaful of  the millions of individuals who have been their loyal customers for many years.
My business has started moving to Windows and we have been surprised how good it is and products like Office 360 are fabulous in the business environment. We have heaps of iMacs ready for the scrap heap!
I am now looking for an alternative to iTunes. Not an easy feat but clearly there is a huge market opportunity out there for someone to produce a decent product. Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

  • ITunes 7.6 on Windows not showing airport express speakers(It works on 7.5)

I have several pcs on my wireless network and have been using my WEP configured airport express speakers successfully for some time now. I have noticed however that 2 new pc's I've bought and installed the latest itunes 7.6 onto are unable to see any external speaker sets. I've looked on the forums, disabled any firewalls still to no avail. Whats frustrating is I am able to connect, configure and play music from a pc with itunes 7.5.020.
What's broken in 7.6? Can anyone help me understand why this is working on a 7.5 version of itunes and failing on 7.6?

Sorry to sound short with you Henry - it was one of the first things I checked. I cannot see anything different between the settings on the working and non working pcs other than the version of iTunes. I've scanned a few postings and think it looks like a defect. Can anyone connect to their Airport Express speakers from PCs newly installed with the latest Itunes? Does anyone have any instructions on how I can downgrade to a working version?

  • Itunes 10.6.1 and my airport express

I just downloaded Itunes 10.6.1 and cannot stream through my airport express anymore. What's up?
    I am on a MacbookPro OS 10.6.8

One option to try that seems to resolve iTunes streaming with OS X Lion is to disable IPv6. In previous versions of OS X, IPv6 was disabled by default. Not so in Lion and there is no option in the Network panel to do so.
However there is a method to do so using Terminal:
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
To determine what are all of your Mac's network interfaces are, issue the following command: networksetup -listallnetworkservices
To disable IPv6 for wireless, issue the following command: networksetup -setv6off Wi-Fi; to disable IPv6 for Ethernet, issue the following command: networksetup -setv6off Ethernet
    To re-enable IPv6, use -setv6automatic instead

  • Apple TV doesn't show up in iTunes when AirPort Express is running at the same time - Can't play music on both Apple TV and AirPort Express speakers together

    Hi there!
I am trying to play music from my Mac on multiple speakers, Apple TV and AirPort Express. But as soon as the AirPort Express station is plugged in, the Apple TV does not show up in iTunes anymore. When trying the same using iPhones Remote app it works perfectly.
Does anyone of you have an idea why iTunes does not show me both Apple TV AND AirPort Express? (it has nothing to to with the IP adress as the adresses are different).
    Thanks for any help!

As my english isn't too good I made a screenshot to show you what I mean.
As you can see in the image below iTunes only shows me the computer speakers and the AirPort Express. But at the bottom you can see that iTunes actually recognized 3 different speaker (Mac, AirPort, Apple TV 2). Why does the Apple TV not show up in the multiple speakers window? Any ideas?

  • Trouble with iTune and multiple airport express

    Hi,
I have a wifi network at home, a PC with windows XP and iTunes, and two airport express stations in other rooms.
I can't figure out why iTunes sometimes sees the "other speakers" (ie airport express stations), sometimes don't, and sometimes sees only one of the two.
The leds are always green on the remote stations, and they are seen in the airport administrator.
Closing iTunes and running it again usually helps (but not always)
Is that something anyone already experienced ?
    Thx for help.
    Nico

It has been working fine for two days nows, and this morning : no express stations on iTunes...
And they are neither seen in the Aiport Admin utility .

  • How to set up and configure AirPort Express for AirPlay and iTunes

Saw somewhere that supposedly there were some apple written guidlines on the above topic. I have searched all over for them. Anyone know where I can get a copy to read through. Just trying to educate myself a bit and sety up another room with access to itunes, radio, etc with high quality speakers and amp off my express.

i use itunes to play music through my airport express but sometimes the songs cut out sporatically.  a song will be playing along then all of a sudden there is intermittant music and silence. What could be causing this?

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • ITunes 10.6.3.25 on ethernet connection loses airport express speakers but iPhone 4 airplay works

    Hi,
I have started experiencing a problem this past week (Aug 2012) that I see sometimes reported here.  When I run iTunes 10.6.3.25 on a Win7 machine that is connected by ethernet to my router, the airport express speakers would regularly disappear.  I can always connect to these airport express via airplay from my iPhone 4.  In fact when the airplay speakers disappear from iTunes on the ethernet-connected machine, I can reliably make them reappear by turning on the Music app on the iPhone.  But after a while the airplay speakers would disappear again.  On a Win7 laptop connected via wifi to the network the same version of iTunes seems so far not to exhibit the same problem.
Has anyone discovered what the underlying problem is or found a solution?

I ran into the specific problem in another thread.  There are more than 100 connections from the apple TV's to iTunes.  You can do a netstat -a (windows or Mac), and verify the problem.  iTunes is smart enough to stop allowing more than 100 connections but stupid to allow the ATV to create so many connections.
Now for what you really want!  Set all of your ATVs to wifi only.  Even setting the iTunes host to wifi might help also.  I think that wifi is more unreliable, and forces connections to drop, keeping the count under 100.
I also turned off ip v6.  That could help you also.  I originally had problems on a Mac mini, and built a windows 7 box to try to fix the problem.  The wifi trick worked on both platforms.  Several of us have bug reports into apple.  I have a wired house also, and am very angry to NEED to use slow wifi to overcome this problem.  The ATV gen 3 has been able to keep up with 1080p over wifi, so it doesn't hurt too much.  What really hurts is spending over 40 hours troubleshooting this bug.

  • ITunes 7.1 doesn't recognize Airport Express over ethernet

Running iTunes 7.1 on Windows XP desktop. Immediately after update, iTunes no longer can see my Airport Express as a remote speaker (Airtunes over Ethernet).
Airport Express has the latest updates. Airport Utility has no trouble recognizing it by name. It doesn't have a password on it. The Airport is happily providing wireless for my laptop. It is my only WiFi base station, because I have a small place. It's been dependable for over a year.
I'm truly bummed, because earlier today I got a Griffin AirClick USB, and it works like a charm. I was looking forward to using it with full-screen coverflow in 7.1.
iBook G4 and assorted Win & Linux boxes   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   iTunes is on an XP PC

The problem turns out to be an incompatibility with Bonjour for Windows. A post by "f00fighter" over in the "iTunes for Windows Upgrade Issues" forum solved it. I quote him below:
    ******Quote***********
Looks like this issue is due to an incompatibility between Bonjour for Windows and iTunes 7.1.0.59 for Windows (thanks toonz!)
To workaround the issue you can stop the Bonjour Service by going to Start \ Control Panel \ Administrative Tools \ Services, then highlight the Bonjour Service and stop it. You might also want to set the Startup status of the Bonjour Service to Manual (or Disabled) to prevent the service from starting automatically the next time you restart you PC.
Note - this is only a temporary fix, and turns off the Bonjour service...so don't do this if you have other applications that rely on the Bonjour Service. A fix from Apple is needed to truly "fix" this issue.

  • ITunes on Vista can't see Airport Express

As above, really. I've got an Airport Express configured to join my wireless network which works fine with my MacBook Air. iTunes on the Air sees the Airport Express and streams to the speakers it's connected to; but iTunes on Vista can't see it.
My Vista PC is connected by ethernet cable to a DLink router, to which the MacBook Air and the Airport Express connect wirelessly. This setup worked fine with my previous Belkin router.
Any thoughts? Many thanks in advance.

On your Vista PC, temporarily disable your Windows Firewall. Did this solve the problem?
    To disable the Windows Firewall:
o Control Panel > Network and Internet > Windows Firewall
o Turn Windows Firewall on or off

I've just upgraded to Iphone 5S and when I access the control panel to stream my Itunes through my original airport express - I don't see the airport express option on the phone.  It exists in Itunes on the Macbooks Pro and functions fine - but now seems to me missing on the Iphone.  Anyone else having this problem?

  • I have an Apple TV and an Airport Express, can I use these to stream all audio from either my iPhone or my MacBook Pro, including Pandora?

I have purchased an Apple TV and an Airport Express as a gift for a loved one and was under the impression that these two would not only allow for movies, videos etc would be streamed to the TV from my MacBook Pro, but also set up Airport Express with speakers and stream music from my laptop or iPhone.  Is there a way for all music, including Pandora, to be streamed through the Airport Express?  I can only figure out how it works with iTunes, not Pandora.
    Thanks for the help!!!

You might want to take a look at Airfoil for Mac to be able to stream any audio source on your Mac.

  • Share iTunes libraries between Windows and MAC

Hi all i've an wifi via "Base AirPort" i've an HD shared between MAC and Windows sistem via the BASE, the iTunes library that i've stored in the HD is non redable for iTunes on Windows because it need an *.itl file...
How can i share an iTunes library between Windows and MAC???

I would like to report back that after struggling for months to get Tune Ranger to work that it is complete rubbish. The first time I tried to sync my libraries (between an empty iTunes library and my existing one) it created duplicates all over the place in my library and generally made a huge mess of everything. The support person (who I suspect is the only person over there) gave me some guff about my id3 tags being corrupt but it was clear that every song that appeared in a playlist was getting duped. Once I fixed this (many weeks later) I tried a one way sync after fiddling with the preferences of Tune Ranger to try to make it work, but it simply wouldn't.
I don't know if anyway has had success using TR where they are also trying to sync playlists, but if you have, I would certainly like to know what you settings are.

  • Wireless printing to an HP PSC 1310 Series from Windows 8 using Airport Express

Can someone point me to instructions for setting up wireless printing (to an HP PSC 1315) from Windows 8 using an Airport Express?  I have a Dell XPS 14z laptop running Windows 8 on which I've installed Bonjour Print Services and an Airport Express (AE) supporting 802.11n.  The laptop successfully uses the AE network to get on the internet, but Bonjour does not display any printers.   I also have a Macbook Air that is able to print wirelessly to the HP PSC 1315, so I know it works.  The problem appears to be with Bonjour, but I'm not certain.  I've tried it with and without the 1315 added as a local printer in the Control Panel.  Still no luck.
I had this same setup with a prior Windows XP laptop and an 802.11g AE, but alas can't get back there with the "new/better" technology.
    Please help.
