ITunes 10.2.1.1 is unresponsive

I upgraded to the new version on my computer on Wednesday. The old version worked like a charm and never had issues. Upgraded the same way I have everytime. However, the latest has given me nothing but issues. It now takes about 5 minutes to open. Once open, the constinately freezes and goes unresponsive for at least 3-5 minutes. Syncing now takes 30 minutes and I get an error message about the sync services. The program has basically become inoperable. I first tried repairing but that made no change. I then went and did the entire unistall of all apple related software on my computer which apple recommended. I then reinstalled will no different result. It's slowing down my entire computer. Running XP professional. Someone help, I don't know what else to do and I need my iTunes back Thanks.

I believe I have figured out a fix for this issue ... assuming your issue is the same as mine was. It appears that MS has fixed a long standing issue with AutoPlay, and this fix is causing problems with iPhones (and other devices) that present themselves as a USB hard drive to windows (i.e. my iPad 1 doesn't have the issue, because it doesn't act like a removable drive to Windows).
So what you need to do is to uninstall the update the MS provided. Again this may not be your issue, but it worked for me. Here's how to do it off the top of my head. It's been forever since I've worked with XP, so you'll have to kinda figure out the steps that I'm missing or messed up:
1) Go to Add/Remove programs.
2) In Vista and Win7 there is a link on the left for "View installed updates" -- you'll have to find the equivalent in XP.
3) Uninstall the updated labeled as KB971029
4) After a reboot, I was all fixed up.

  • Itunes 11.1.1 slow and unresponsive

Since updating Itunes it has been very slow and unresponsive when trying to look at my podcast list. It is also automatically downloading the latest episode even though my selection is set to off.

noticed the same thing after i upgraded. after clicking on podcasts library itunes would freeze additionally when clicking on my iphone in itunes and selecting the podcast tap, itunes would beachball for 20-30 seconds. So I opened activity monitor and noticed everytime I selected podcast library or the podcasts to sync under the device network activity would skyrocket and itunes would freeze until it completed. It only occurs with podcasts.... Out of curiosity I turned wifi off, connected ethernet -> same prolem. The interesting part is if I disconnect ethernet and disable wifi everything is lightning fast, no delays, and no apparent issues other than the fact you cannot download new episodes.

  • Mac OSX 10.6.7 update causes iTunes and entire system to be unresponsive?

    Hey all,
I updated to the latest OS X patch today and I've been having problems with iTunes crashing the system ever since.
iTunes would open and the entire system cease to be responsive: the mouse cursor does not respond to movements on the touchpad and the functions keys no longer do anything.
Is this a problem that anyone else is experiencing?

Sam problem here, all use of the latest iTunes freezes my whole computer, this has never happened to me with OS X before.
But I have friends who are not having this problem, so it is not affecting everybody. Could it be some other installed app that causes this?
Is there any simple way to downgrade to 10.6.6?

  • I tried to reload my Ipod touch.  I accidently selected "start new ipod" icon on the Ipod and then "back up existing ipod" on Itunes.  Now the Ipod is unresponsive, constantly shutting down and restarting.  Even after multiple "forced" shut downs.  Help!

After updating the os, I tried to shut down, clear and reload my Ipod touch.  Here's where I goofed:  at the prompt for starting the reload process, I selected "start as new Ipod" on the Ipod, but in Itunes, I selected " back up existing Ipod from computer" or something like that.  Now the ipod is constantly shutting down and restarting and no controls can be accessed.  All I can do is the "forced shut down" which I have done multiple times and let sit for a half hour off.

Disregard,  hooked up to itunes and clicked on summary, selected restore, all is well.

  • Why does iTunes become unresponsive?

  • ITunes constantly unresponsive?

I downloaded the new version of iTunes because the other one was unresponsive. But then, so is this one. I clicked Force Quit, and it did, but then when I turn it on it's not responding... again. It doesn't show me the window or anything, it just doesn't open. I'm getting frustrated. What should I do?

One thing you all can try is to open iTunes in "safe mode" (without external plug-ins). Hold the Command and Option keys (while opening iTunes). If it runs without problems, eliminate some plug-ins from your user account/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug Ins.
Another possibility is to try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the your user account/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

  • ITunes freezes when I plug my iPod Touch 4 in and it won't sync.

    Ok guys,
So recently, I have had MAJOR problems with my iPod touch (not jailbroken) and they're driving me INTO INSANITY!!! So, a few weeks ago, I added a movie I downloaded onto my iTunes. All **** broke loose from there. At first I wasn't able to sync. My iPod was detected but it wouldn't sync unless I restored it. Later, it began to not sync unless I plugged it into my computer without iTunes up. iTunes began to freeze and become unresponsive. When it froze, it would began to actually sync, just not say. Then it began to not sync at all, and now I can't do anything.
I am at my witts end. I am deperate. I have tried averything under the sun from deleteing practically everything on my iTunes to updating iTunes to trying to reset Bonjour. Down below are links to every problem I have. They keep piling on each other to where I can't find just one post to describe. And these people decribe it better than I do. Can anyone help? I don't want to have to reset iTunes or re-install. I have precious apps that NEED to be backed up.

I forgot to mention, whenever it does sync, it just gets stuck staying "verrifying ipod".
Try having that topped off with freezing.

  • Itunes won't open get an immediate problem window please help

I just recently did a complete system restore and have since got everything back together. I just tried last night to re-install intunes first with the start up disc and then through the itunes site. After both times downloading the program with no problems I went to start itunes and get an immediate problem screen. The problem only states "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry the inconvenience" with no explantion or way to correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Lawrence

I have been having the same problem lately. I have not found a solution yet. I've tried repairing the disk, reparing permissions, using a different user, reinstalling itunes, trashing the .plist, but nothing has worked. After iTunes is launched it immediately becomes unresponsive and will not Force Quit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • ITunes on Windows Vista...Crashes Every Time

    Hi.
I just purchased an ipod nano and installed itunes on my PC (windows vista).  It worked the first time but would crash 1/4 of the way through syncing my library to my ipod.
Now itunes just crashes/freezes/is completely unresponsive as soon as I open it either my clicking the icon or by plugging in the ipod.
Completely unimpressed...I have owned 10+ phones/mp3 players in the past and have never had an issue (hadn't been using itunes) with transferring files, etc.
    How do I fix itunes?
I updated Quicktime and iTunes...Quicktime is working fine on its own.

    Hello Mariahthomas

  • Itunes on windows 7 pc not responding

What can I do about itunes on windows 7 pc not responding?

    Hello whitesend3,
It sounds like you are opening iTunes and it is immediately becoming unresponsive. I recommend the troubleshooting in the article named:
iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1717
Start with this section, and then the additional troubleshooting in the article if you need it:
    Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
    Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,

  • More problems with iTunes 9.1.0.79

    Hi,
since I have had my iPhone I have upgraded itunes a couple of times and never had any problems until now.
I upgraded to 9.1.0.79 two days ago and am having all sorts of issues.
Now when itunes starts it takes ages.
When my iphone is connected I get a message saying:-
+itunes cannot sync information with the iphone 'iphone' because syncing has been disabled on this computer+
I click the yes button to enable syncing and then receive an error message:-
+itunes was unable to load provider data from sync services reconnect or try again later+
I then click OK and my phone appears in the devices list.
These error messages happen every time I start itunes, so by me clicking the yes button to enable syncing does absolutely nothing.
My iphone will sync fine just that itunes tends to freeze up and is very slow.
I run a diagnostic from the help menu and without my iphone connected it shows a red dot next to 'No iPhone or iPod found', which is correct but when I have my iphone connected this red dot is now orange, what is the difference in colour?
I have turned of all anti-virus and firewall software but itunes is still the same, very unresponsive, so anti-virus/firewall is not the problem.
    I followed to the letter:-
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 and totally uninstalled everything and then reinstalled itunes only to find the same problem persisting.
This is definitely a problem with itune 9.1.0.79 and apple should be addressing it pronto.
Here is the data from the diagnostic run and it shows my iphone as not found even though it is connected, showing in devices and I can sync to it, wierd!!

notice how under diagnostics readout it shows "most recent device not currently connected"
mine does same thing and i have iphone connected when i do it.
my problems also started with this update and i show 4 errors in event viewer which is under adminastrative tools in control panel.
MY problem is super slow backups for a 16gb 3Gs with 12gbs free. a backup used to be done in like 30-45 seconds now takes about 5 minutes and looks as if it stals at a few points when looking at bar at top of itunes.
my iphone shows up in itunes and shows all pages etc. i do everything manually although i do sync apps.
everytime i connect iphone and open itunes i get 4 errors thats show up only in event viewer (but anyone who maintains computers should be aware of all tools available to them to see whats going on in the background) that show up for "BONJOUR" i have posted this here and under bonjour forum. i turned off bonjour services the proper way again thrru adminastrative tools>services double click bonjour and change for "automatic to "disabled". don't do it through msconfig as some would tell you to do if it's a bonjour issue.
but checking out event viewer can give you valuable info so you don't do the apple nonsense wasting hours to clean up their messy installation only to have it do exact same thing again. it's obvoius they have a conflict.... now we can only hope for a resolution ie UPDATE if enough complain by sending them all this.
i don't have a jailbreak phone nor am i rebuilding anything i'll live with it till they fix it as my event viewer log isn't getting filled up with bonjour errors anymore nor do i need all this bloated crap apple sends our way... i do have quicktime pro.
