ITunes 10.2.1 64bit won't backup iPhone 3GS, doesn't give option

Hey guys, I've searched pretty thoroughly and can't seem to find help.
I have an iPhone 3GS and a windows desktop with windows 7 64 bit. I have iTunes 10.2.1 64 bit.
In the past, whenever I've tried to sync up my device, it would create a backup, only until recently did I notice that iTunes is no longer backing up my iPhone while syncing.
I've seen this topic gone over a bit throughout various forums and have found no concrete fix. I've seen people refer to deleting the itunes.plist file, and I've tried to find this file but I'm not sure I'm finding the right one.
Please help! I want to update my device but I can't find a way to fix this!
PS I can back up the device on my macbook pro just fine, just not my windows desktop. If I update my device on my windows desktop, can I then restore from backup using my macbook so that everything comes back? And then sync back to my windows desktop to get all my music, etc?
Thanks

found it, must have been a corrupt preferences file located in user/appdata/apple computer/roaming/itunes
followed this article and by removing that folder and reopening itunes, it backed up just fine!

  • ITunes 9.2.1.4 won't sync iPhone 3GS with Outlook 2007 Calendar

iPhone sync was fine through all previous iTunes updates. Now new events in Outlook don't show up on iPhone after sync, and new events on iPhone don't show up on Outlook. If Apple can't fix this, I need instructions on how to revert to previous version of iTunes.
I have spent all day trying various stuff (reset sync history, computer overrides iPhone) with no luck. Best solution with new calendar events is to enter them twice, once in Outlook, then again on iPhone. This is NOT acceptable. Apple, why did this "feature" get released?

Sync now working. In Outlook, selected View, Current View, Events. Then View, Current View, Customize Current View, then Fields, all appointment fields, and moved reminder into the view. Then clicked every event that had a reminder, set the reminder to none, and eventually returned to the Day Week Month view. Next sync, all events synced both ways.
    Success. !!

  • IPhone 3GS doesn't show up in iTunes 10.3.1.55

I just downloaded the new updated iTunes today.  After doing so, my iPhone 3GS doesn't show up on there or my computer.
It shows up under devices but not on hardware (on my PC).  Is there a glitch in the new update?  I haven't had any trouble until
now.  I went through the troubleshooter and did everything it asked and still nothing.  When I first plugged in my phone after the update,
a window popped up saying something about Windows updating the driver on the device.  I thought drivers and such only came from
Apple.  Under the pc's tab Devices and Printers, I ran a troubleshooter on the phone and it also said it couldn't identify the problem.
Everything seems to work ok on the phone, but I can't add any music to the phone or download pics from the phone.  If I reset my phone,
will I lose my pics I haven't put on my pc yet?  Thanks for any help.

Don't reset your phone.  Resetting will return the phone to factory settings and you will loose everything.  Spend some time working toward a fix.
You might want to try a different USB cable.  It is possible that your cable conincedentally went bad.  I have had this problem before - even cables that will chrage the phone sometimes stop working for data purposes.

  • Why won't my iPhone 3gs create a backup when sync with my new Mac?

When I attempt to backup my iphone 3gs with my new iMac, it syncs fine but won't create a backup. The apps aren't saving on iTunes so I can't upgrade the phone without losing some apps. I never had a problem with my old PC. Is there something I need to do to authorize a backup on the new computer? I already authorized the computer with iTunes so I could play my music, but I must be missing something with the phone. Please help.

  • Cannot backup iPhone 3GS. Error Message: iTunes could not backup iPhone because iPhone Disconnected. What is the fix for this problem?

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me find a solution to my problem.
When a backup is attempted, it starts off as if it's working, then stops and the following error message appears: "iTunes could not backup iPhone because the iPhone disconnected". But, the iPhone doesn't really disconnect! It must be some type of internal glitch.
The iPhone is a 3GS and I have mostly pictures and contacts, two songs, a total of 33 apps. The iOS is updated (6.1.6). I do not know if this phone was ever jailbroke. I have been able to backup this phone before, but cannot now. The last backup was 9/21/13, it is now 3/2/14.
Sorry if there is too much info, or not the correct info to find a solution!
Also, I must say that although I am not a tekkie, I've seen many different types of various programs and I find that iTunes is not very intuitive...don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, just my humble opinion.
    Thank You,
    Camp917

    Hey Lawrence,
A big THANK YOU!! to you! Your suggestions worked!
Before I changed USB ports (more on that in a sec...), I employed one of your suggestions that you gave to someone else with the same problem...and that was to clean the connector on the bottom of the phone with a soft dry tooth brush. I couldn't believe the amount of lint that came out! Especially what was found in either end...had to do some very careful picking. (Almost enough lint to knit a small sweater!!)
Changing the USB port was the second and final step required for a successful backup. My computer is a laptop, and I did have a USB Bluetooth adapter (for another device) installed. I removed  the adapter, plugged the iPhone into that USB port, crossed my fingers...and it worked!!!
Now if I can figure out the rest of this darn program, I might upgrade to a new iPhone!
Again, thank you very much Lawrence!

  • ITunes on Win 7 Pro won't recognise iPhone

iPhone 4 S is 12 months old next month.
    OS is 7.0.2
    iTunes vers is: 11.1.0.126
Computer OS is Win 7 Pro (anti virus is Microsoft Essentials, Firewall is ZoneAlarm)
I have manged to connect the phone to iTunes ... so there is a backup. However, that was a while ago and it's pot luck.
Even when I did connect it required several plugging and unplugging to get a connection.
NB - the computer is recognising the iPhone as I can d/load pictures from Photos and charge via the computer.
(As a clue: wall charge also requires often 6 plug in and out before it connects and begins charging so I use the computer mostly).
I've been through the list provided by Apple Help.
Also I remove Apple from devices so that it installs afresh.
And I have Stopped and Restarted Apple Mobile Device.
I have tried with firewall off (but when it did connect ages ago same firewall was on)
Unable to turn off MSE and really ought not have to uninstall.
So ... if you are into a techie challenge please take on my case.
No offence intended but not interested in amateur good ideas like "try another usb port" (have tried main and subsidiary port)....
I'm franly disappointed, frustrated and tired of the process but remain open to expert input.
thx for reading this post and should you offer expert advice then in advance may I thank you.
    best wishes,

Never mind answering this question. I was able to figure out a way to fix the problem on my own. All I needed to do was install the Itunes update by itself and then I was able to open Itunes with no trouble.

  • ITunes on Mac won't recognize iPhone 3GS

I got the new 3GS to upgrade for the original iPhone. first sync worked perfect. Next couple did too. Now all of a sudden it's not recognized. I completely uninstalled itunes using apple's instructions and reinstalled. Nothing. I reset the phone using a windowz machine. (Windowz does see it when plugged in) Nothing. Just plugged in the orig iphone and it sees that one but not the 3GS.
If I put it into DFU mode itunes sees it but if I try to restore it iTunes says the required software can't be found. WHAT THE HECK? This is so annoying!
    Leopard 5.2
    iTunes 8.2
    iPhone 3GS/3.0
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

So I may have come up with a hint. I'm running 10.5.2 and I installed an older version of xcode and iphone SDK. I think that's when my problems started. I've uninstalled xcode/sdk and completely uninstalled iTunes (including library files apple recommends) and reinstalled itunes. then i tried reinstalling quicktime just in case. still now luck.

  • ITunes won't recognise iphone 3Gs since upgrading to Leopard

I have just upgraded from Tiger to Leopard (all updates are done) and now neither my or my wife's iPhone 3Gs are being recognized by iTunes. I have run disc utilities and restated everything. Sometimes I wish I left things alone! Any help would be much appreciated.

  • ITunes crashes as soon as I plug in iPhone 3GS

Recently my iPhone 3GS freezes iTunes 9.0.2 (25) every time. I tried every USB port and the same problem occurs. I can open iTunes without the iPhone connected but the minute I plug it in iTunes freezes and I have to force quit.
I read Windows users were having this situation but I have seen some reports on the iTunes Forum.
    Any insight is welcome.
    Thank you,
    Marty

I am using Windows vista 32 bit, and only happened to me once. I got a new desktop charger (Not Apple) and when finished my backup with original cable, I switched to the desktop charger (desktop charger with Iphone plugged in it connected to USB on my PC) and my Itunes froze. I ran Itunes setup again and did a repair. Since then it never happened no matter which USB port/cable I use. I will blame it on the desktop charger (in my case).

  • TS1702 Unable to backup iPhone 3GS.

Since the first iOS6 update my iPhone 3GS will no longer update the iOS because it has not been able to back up the phone anywhere (iCloud or Computer) since I did the initial iOS 6 update (Oct 2012).  The iTunes popup says "iTunes could not back up the iPhone "(phone's name)" because the iPhone disconnected.  Had any who had or still have the 3GS experienced this problem and been able to fix the issue?

  • IPhone 3GS doesn't show up in iTunes

(Sorry for the length of this, but I want to make sure that I don't leave out anything that I've done.)
It all started last week when I installed Starcraft 2 on my Mac mini (the new one that came out in June 2010). Starcraft 2 crashed frequently due to the nVidia driver issues in 10.6.4, so the next day I re-installed OS X from the DVD that came with my computer to rollback to 10.6.3. Starcraft 2 worked better, but that's beside the point.
Later that day I noticed that iTunes didn't show my iPhone 3GS when it was connected (I have had zero problems with this since I got my Mac mini last month). (I'm using iTunes 9.2.1, by the way). I searched a bit, and found the instructions to Uninstall and reinstall iTunes (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224). I followed the instructions, and everything worked quite well.
At this point, I thought the problem was either due to my re-install of OS X or Starcraft 2 (I'm using a USB headset, which could somehow be related).
I was having other issues with Starcraft 2 at this point, so I decided to install Windows XP SP3 via Boot Camp. I did this, installed Starcraft 2, and played away.
When I rebooted into OS X, again I noticed that my iPhone wasn't showing up in iTunes. I started to follow the uninstall steps again, and this time I noticed that iTunesHelper wasn't running. It wasn't running because it wasn't in the list of login items to run when my account logs in. Since I was part way through uninstalling anyway, I continued with the process and then reinstalled iTunes. Once again, iTunes saw my iPhone fine. This time I also manually added iTunesHelper to my login items (I had to right click iTunes.app, Show Package Contents, navigate to iTunesHelper.app, and drag it into the list of Login items; I did check the Hide checkbox, since I recalled it being checked during the first uninstall).
It was a few days before I checked iTunes again (I rebooted a few times in here to play Starcraft 2 in Windows; note that I haven't ran Starcraft 2 in OS X since I installed Windows XP previously). However, once again my iPhone wasn't in iTunes.
Since I want to sync my iPhone today, I once again follow the uninstall iTunes process. This time, after installing it and verifying that my iPhone shows up in iTunes (again, I had to manually add iTunesHelper to my login items), I immediately rebooted and connected my iPhone. It didn't show up in iTunes (which I kind of expected at this point). I verified that iTunesHelper was indeed running.
I also tried connecting my wife's iPod touch (first generation), but it doesn't show up in iTunes either (not that I expected it to).
I've tried changing the USB port the dock connector is connected to, but that doesn't seem to matter. I did not change the port during the last reboot attempt, so I do not think that the port itself is bad. I have it connected to one of the ports on the back of the Mac mini, not to one of the ports on my keyboard. Also, my iPhone does charge when connected to this port even if iTunes doesn't recognize it.
At this point it sounds like the iTunes 9.2.1 installer doesn't do something that is required for the iPhone to be recognized by iTunes after a reboot, even though it sets things up properly right after installation. Based on the uninstall instructions, I compared the iTunes related files on my Mac with my wife's (a MacBook from early 2008, if that matters), and everything seems to be in place.
I've seen quite a few other posts here regarding issues with iPhones (and iPod touches) not showing up in iTunes, so apparently this is a common issue, but none of them seemed to help my problem.
Do you have any ideas of anything else I can try?
    Thank you very much!

I think my problem is fixed now.
For the fun of it, I reinstalled iTunes 9.2.1 today (using the exact same installer as I did yesterday), but this time I didn't uninstall iTunes first. As expected, iTunes recognized my iPhone (as I expected it to, until my next reboot).
A few minutes later, Software Update showed up and among the updates is "iPhone SDK Compatibility Update". The description indicates that installing this should fix an issue where iPhones and iPod touches aren't recognized by iTunes. Isn't that interesting?
I installed that update and most of the others waiting for me (including Java, Safari 5.0.1, and a few others - not 10.6.4 though, due to the issues with nVidia graphics cards). After the reboot, I started iTunes, and it saw my iPhone!
So, if you're having this same problem, I'd recommend tracking down this update and see if that does the trick for you. Hopefully it will.

Your expectations are not based in reality.
Your G4 will not run iCloud. There will be no upgrade from Mobile Me to iCloud for you with that machine unless you do it manually, and only mail will work without further expenditure.
