ITunes 10.3.1 list view question

When using the list view (or the other views that involve the list) the alternating light/dark grid-line rows don't show up. The song titles, check boxes, etc. are all there and the songs still play. Curiously, when you open a dialog box (like the EQ) over the list, where the shadow of the dialog box intersects the list you can see the light/dark coloration. Does this make sense? Anyone know how to fix this?

Same thing in 10.6.3 (25), would like a fix too.

  • List View Question

I use List View on itunes. At its best, I have this set up with what is essentially a table of 3 columns on top (genre, artist, album) and one underneath that shows the list of whatever is highlighted. I find this to be a very easy way to sort, search, etc.
However, I accidentally hit some button (I really do not know what) and now it is just a list of every song (all 10,000) one after the other. I have the columns - I do not need help with deciding what columns exist in the lsit. But I lost that table like display. There used to be a button in the lower left that opened and closed that table like display, but in the latest iTunes iteration, it is gone.
Can someone, anyone, please help me figure out how to get this back? I do not like the grid view or cover flow view, especially since iTunes does such wierd things in there.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • In iTunes can TV Show List view be collapsed?

I have over a 1000 tv shows in iTunes and in List view each and every show for each and every season is shown for each TV Show. Does anyone know if that List view can just show the season or just the show?

    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • ITunes List Window View Question

Apologies if this is not the correct place to post this, but...
I like having the 'kind' category visible after the 'Artist' and 'Album' category lists in iTunes. I use Edit>View Options to do this but it only affects the current playlist (or the Library)
Can I change all the playlists to show the categories this way or do I have to go thru each one?

  • TS1389 Why not make apple-id available in the iTunes app list view ?

Can't apple add the apple-id field to the list view for apps ? This would really help in case different ID's are used to install apps. I know the ID can be seen with the Get-Info option, but doing that for 200+ apps to find one that won't sync is a pain !!

    Moon,
That is a good question.  It is not possible with the current iTunes, but you could suggest it to Apple at the iTunes Feedback page.
When you submit, set "Feedback type" to "Enahncement Request," and explain what you would like to see.  I think it may be relevant to all content types, not just apps.

  • Jitter in list view (iTunes not in use)

When viewing a window in list view, long lists display a jitter, i.e. the displayed list jumps up and down one item. I first saw this in QuickenEssentials when reconciling a bank account, but then also when I displayed the home/Library/Preferences list. When I searched on the forum I invariably got into iTunes related questions, but iTunes is not active when this happens. These are the only two instances of this behavior I have seen. (a) Has anyone else had this experience? (b) What can be done about it?

Thanks. I forgot to mention that I noticed this effect when moving the cursor by using my bluetooth-connected "Mighty mouse" This suggests to me that the issue is with the operating system treatment of bluetooth and not with the particular mouse in use.

  • Normal list view in iTunes 8

I can see how to switch all the views in iTunes. However when I go to the listing view (one on the left) everything is still grouped with album arts and what not showing in the display window. How can I get to just the normal "list" of songs that I can sort without this? I don't need album arts on the side as it gets annoying scrolling through 15,000 songs that aren't all on albums with art work.
    Is this totally gone?

It looks like you are stuck in grid mode (middle). I click on list mode and there are all the songs just like before the update. Don't give up this feature wasn't removed it's just a matter of trying to figure out how to get the list button to work for you.

  • Podcast list view in iTunes 11

Not sure if I am missing something here, but I regularly search for podcasts on specific subjects. More likely than not it's individual episodes I want, rather than a podcast series. However, in iTunes 11, when you click on an individual episode after searching it takes you to the whole series. You then have to look through that whole series to find the episode that showed up in your search.
This is really really annoying. In iTunes 10, you could look at all the episodes in a list, and click the ones you wanted to download. Now you have to hop in and out of whole podcast series, find the specific episode you want, then back out and onto the next one. When you're downloading 20 or 30 at a time it's a real pain.
Am I missing something? Is there a way to get the old convenient list view back?

I'd like to have this list view back as well.
It was usefull for choosing a podcast based on date and/or length.
I will submit feedback on this and suggest all others who want it back do the same.

  • Why does iTunes 11.1 have to break Podcast List view?

iTunes 11.1 has ruined podcast List view on my Mac.  It was the only view that made efficient use of screen space. Now that is gone, with a clutter of lists of old episodes that I have listened to and deleted, often years ago.  I want the ability to NOT SHOW OLD EPISODES.  The settings and default options do not work to delete old episodes, which hover in 'the cloud' in my lists.
So instead of a few unheard episodes, I have sometimes hundreds of old episodes for the program.  Simply reordering the list so that recent programs appear at the top for each program is not good enough.  I don't need to see program titles I have already heard and discarded ('deleted' prior to 11.1).
This is not a cloud, it is FOG!!
    I can't believe this stuff.

  • Question re. Column View/List View in Home Folder and Root Folder?

    <Edited by Host>
When I set either my Home folder in the Dock or the Root Folder on the Desktop to open in Column View, everything opened is retracted upon closing.
Is this just the way Leopard is, or am I missing something obvious I should know:
First, on Tiger, my Home Folder opens directly in the Finder. I don't have to select "Open in Finder," as I have to in Leopard.
Second, when I select the Column option when opening the Home Folder in the Finder, it automatically sets the Column option for the Root Folder on the Desktop, as well (and vice-versa). In Tiger, they can be set independently. I prefer to have the Root Folder set to List View and the Home Folder to Column View, and have both remain like that. This is what I meant, but got a bit confused before in asking the question.
Also, is there some way, as in Tiger, to have the Home Folder in the Dock set to open automatically in the Finder, without having to select that option each time I go to the Home Folder?
Actually, now that I remember, perhaps this isn't such surprising behavior. To get it there, I copied the Home Folder from its position in the Root Folder to the Dock. Maybe there is some other way to get the Home Folder into the Dock? Thanks.

Thanks. The option "Open in Finder" appears at the bottom of a small vertical menu when I click on the Home Folder in the Dock. Command clicking on the Home Folder brings up the other user account, Shared, and my user account, so it's not that useful.
ah, you are right. well, one more option is to make an alias to the home folder, put it anywhere you want and put the alias on the dock. then clicking (no command-clicking needed) on the alias in the dock will open home in a finder window directly.
The default in Finder Preferences was already set the way you suggested.
Now that I know about cmd-n, that gets me directly to the Home Folder in the Finder. And now that it's set up to open in Column View, and remain that way independent of the View option for the Root folder, everything seems to be looking good. That's what I needed.

  • Podcasts list view ruined in iTunes 11.1?

Just upgraded and I don't seem to be able to remove podcasts I've already listend to from my list view. I use the list view as I like to manually manage what I download and when. I download stuff to sync with my iPhone.  To make matters worse, even though only a few old unwanted podcasts were showing in a few feeds, I clicked the refresh catalog button and now I have pages and pages of defunct rubbish going back at least 5 years that I am no longer able to delete! Even if I re-download an old podcase and delete it, it still stays in the catalog! How could this possibly be what anyone would prefer?
The 'my podcasts' list is no better, as you can't delete old stuff from there either and 'my stations' does not give me the option to download all available episides so I can sync it with my phone,
PLEASE GIVE US BACK manual control of the catalog!
If Im missing something, and I really hope I am, please can someone point me in the right direction (if that direction is a decent, working podcast player that I can sync with my phone, then so be it!)

Good luck on that type of workaround as iTunes is tightly integrated into the operating system... so you would need two backups ahead of time and plenty of time thereafter.

  • Where is List View in ITunes 11.0.1.12? Mine is greyed out

    Hello.
I cannot select "List View" on my ITunes Library listings (MUSIC/MOVIES etc.all display as Album Art)..but it is displayable as List View in my Playlists.
Is this now a fixed feature of ITunes 11.0.1.12 or can I change it so List View appears in my Library all the time if I want it to?
    Kind Regards,
    Wayne

Aha!...The "Songs" button. I just saw this in the discussions..sorry to waste your time. Thank you

  • Changes to list view in iTunes 8

I've noticed some changes to the list view in iTunes 8, which in my personal opinion, means it doesn't look as good as in previous versions.
For example, in previous versions there was a little gap between albums, there are now all bunched up together, and I feel it just makes the screen look a bit cramped. I'd prefer an option to have it looking like it used to.
There are also changes to the artwork column. The shadow for album artwork has been removed. The font for artist and title has been made bigger, there is also a grey background which I don't remember being there before.
I realise these are only minor points compared to some of the issues some people have been having with iTunes 8, but given how much attention Apple normally pays to having attractive GUIs, I feel these changes are a step back.
Does anyone else feel some of these changes should be reversed, or is just me?

I agree with you that the lack of gaps between albums makes it more difficult to pick each one out in the list, as does the uninterrupted repetition of the alternately coloured row background.
I guess this is a side-effect of making artwork display in list view optional. I too prefer the previous approach.

  • Is it possible in iTunes 11 to get the old album list view, with covers and track listings like in 10?

Is it possible in iTunes 11 to get the old album list view, with covers and track listings like in 10?
If not, then to me that is a huge retrograde step

No, the old album list view is not an option in iTunes 11...
You can restore much of the look & feel of the previous version with these shortcuts:
ALT to temporarily display the menu bar
CTRL+B to show or hide the menu bar
CTRL+S to show or hide the sidebar
CTRL+/ to show or hide the status bar (won't hide for me on Win XP)
Click the magnifying glass top right and untick Search Entire Library to restore the old search behaviour
Use View > Hide <Media Kind> in the cloud or Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the cloud purchases to hide the cloud items. The second method eliminates the cloud status column (and may let iTunes start up more quickly)
If you don't like having different coloured background & text in the Album view use Edit > Preferences > General and untick Use custom colours for open albums, movies, etc.
If you still feel the need to roll back to iTunes 10.7 first download a copy of the 32 bit installer or 64 bit installer as appropriate, uninstall iTunes and supporting software, i.e. Apple Application Support & Apple Mobile Device Support. Reboot. Restore the pre-upgrade version of your library database as per the diagram below, then install iTunes 10.7.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to scan the media folder and catch up with any changes made since the backup file was created.

  • HT5772 How do I delete podcast episodes that I don't want to keep without having them stay in my List view in iTunes and clog it up?  I have some episodes that I've listened to that I want to keep, but others I want to delete.

Using iTunes on my MacBookPro, I find that when I want to delete selected podcast eisodes, they still stay in my List view with the cloud symbol next to them. I don't want them in my List view. I want them gone. I don't want to download them ever again. I do keep some episodes so I don't want to do the draconian thing and delete all podcast episodes once I've heard them. The other problem I have with trying to delete episodes is that some podcasts then have the same episodes pop back up as though I haven't listened to them. I've deleted a bunch of Science Friday episodes only to have them download again ready to hear. Not only that, but some episodes will finish playing or stop playing in the middle of an episode and a random podcast will start playing. Think! does that. GAH!!
Does anyone know a workaround? The same nonsense happens in any iTunes view I try.
    <Edited by Host>

You can delete photos from individual albums but not from the camera roll.  If you try to delete a photo from camera roll it will be deleted from all other albums ("locations") that contain the photo.  This is because the actual photo is in the camera roll (the albums only contain links to the photo in camera roll, not the actual photo).
