Itunes 10.3.1 wont open on my windows vista computer.

ive turned off the firewall, uninstalled and reinstalled, and even became the administrator on my computer... its getting to the point that i wanna buy a new mp3 player that works with windows media player because i have this problem ALL THE TIME! please help... i dont wanna waste another $300 on something else that wont work -.-

I have solved the problem with iTunes 10.5 will not install on Windows 7 64 bit. I used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility available from softpedia.com to uninstall the offending program. It is the Apple Software Updater that would not uninstall from the Control Panel. I uninstalled all Apple iTunes 10.4, Quicktime and BonJour etc. and the Apple Software Updater would not uninstall, so the Windows Installer Cleanup 2.5 Utility did the job. Poor design of an Apple uninstaller.

Search your hard drive for a file containing ITL in it. That is the file extension for the itunes database file. You might need to set Win Explorer options to show NOT hide file extensions.
Once you are sure you know where that file is, press AND HOLD the shift key while starting itunes. Keep holding the shift key until you see a question about choosing or creating a library. Choose the ITL file you found during your search.

With that combination, we need to check on some other application (apart from QuickTime itself) stashing old QuickTime componentry on the PC in an unorthodox location. (Codec packs and video converters are the usual suspects with that, although some games might do the same.)
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view settings.
In your Start menu, open Computer.
In your Organise menu, select Folder Options.
In the View tab, make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is selected, and "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked.
Click OK.
Now in Computer, open your C:\ drive (or whichever drive you have your operating system installed on).
Open the "Windows" folder.
*If you have a 32-bit version of Windows,* open the "System32" folder.
*If you have a 64-bit version of Windows,* open the "SysWOW64" folder.
What files and folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the title? (In a standard installation of Quicktime you should be seeing precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

I used to have the iTunes 10.0 i think of what ever was the old version before the 10.2 came out. It said to download the new version and i did. and now when i try to open it, it says "This shortcut has been moved or changed" and i keep uninstalling it and everything and install it back and it still says the same thing. Okay ... so it looks like some permissions are stuffed up around your program files area.
Now you've got the folder open, can you check something further for me please? Try right-clicking on the itunes.exe and selecting "run as administrator". Does it launch when you do that?
(Trying to work out here if it's a problem with your Windows user account's permissions that is causing the messages, or if some different set of permissions has turned to custard for us.)

with that one, let's try swapping out your QuickTime.
head into your Add/Remove programs. uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we’ll manually remove any leftover program files and folders.

3. Open Program Files.
4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.

7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?
