  • ITunes wil not download iTunes Store purchases to my network drive

I have iTunes 8.2.1.6 loaded. I can't remember when the last upgrade came through and not sure when the downloads to my network drive stopped working, but they used to work.
I first set-up iTunes on my Win XP laptop in January 2008. I already had my network set-up at home and had been storing my music and media on a network drive for long before that. Initially everything was fine, iTunes connected and created the library. It also allowed me to download from the store directly to my mapped network drive.
The library still works and still picks up all the music and media from my network drive. The problem is, whenever I try to purchase from iTunes Store, the download fails and says the disk is full (it's not - there's 70GB left on it). If I set my iTunes Music Folder location to be local C: drive, it downloads with no issue. Problem is I only have between 2 and 5GB left on my C: drive and it's only a 30GB drive to begin with, so way too small for my library.
Recently (July) I purchased a TV Episode from iTunes Store. It tried to download 6 separate instances, every one failed. When I switched my iTunes Music Folder location to C:, it finally downloaded. I switched my folder location back to the network on completion and manually moved the TV episode to the network (it was a HD+SD download, so multiple copies, and the meta data / library entry now seems to be screwed!).
Today I have tried to download an album and I get the same error about the network disk being full! This is too much hassle and not endearing me in anyway to Apple!
If anyone has any ideas as to how I might resolve this, I'd be very grateful.
    Cheers

I am having a similar problem for 3 weeks now, and wasted hours messing with our Firewall software, etc. thinking that was the problem. Thanks to your post I tried changing the Itunes Music Folder location temporarily to our C: drive, and voila-- suddenly downloads can be completed. We choose to keep our Itunes library folder on a separate networked hard drive, and ever since we updated to Itunes 8.2.1.6 we've been unable to download purchased music to this drive. We had no problems for the last 2 years with previous versions of Itunes & our preference configurations for the library. The error message I got when I tried to download purchased content (both music & video) was "error (-48) unknown error. unable to complete download... check network connection and try again". Of course our PC WAS connected to the internet, and I could access the Store and download from other websites, just not Itunes.
Could this be related?? : Looking in my Itunes folder in the networked drive, I tried to delete the Downloads folder (after reading a suggestion in a forum to delete purchased music files if they were partially downloaded, and then try to download them again). I have been unable to delete or rename this folder, getting this error message: "Cannot delete Downloads. The file or directory is corrupted & unreadable".
A separate, Itunes bug related to Music Folder location-- we also had a major problem trying to get the location of all our music properly identified in Itunes library with this latest software version. We had to wipe our C: hard-drive due to a virus, and when we downloaded the updated Itunes software & set the preferences to point to the library on our networked drive, it isn't properly identifying thousands of the files (we have ~10,000 songs. The "Consolidate files" feature is very buggy, and only worked for maybe 1/5 of the files before stopping. We don't want to keep trying to run it, because we are afraid we'll end up with even more duplicate "ghost" files than we have now ("Unable to locate file" under "Get info" the "where" field is blank. We've had to manually load folders from the networked hard drive one by one, using the
"Add Folder to Library" feature. This is taking forever, as this needs to be done for 100's of artist folders, then we have to delete the duplicate music files that still appear in the library!!

  • Download failing in iTunes 11

I just downloaded iTunes 11 and downloaded three albums - the first two were fine but the final one is failing with the following error:
"You do not have enough access privileges for this operation"
I am running Windows 7 and have been for some months without any issues but I did try a few solutions already.
    1.  Run iTunes as Administrator
    2.  Run iTunes in Compatibility mode.
    3.  I've installed the registry setting to allow me to "Take Ownership" of all the iTunes folders.
    4.  I've got "Full Control" setting.
    Any suggestions?
It seems weird that 2 out of the 3 downloads were fine........
    Thanks.

I don't own a Mac (I'm on a Window's 8 computer), but since everytime I click on a topic I get redirected to MAc support, I'll post this here. I too have had this problem, just starting today. I downloaded 2 movies from the store, and neither appeared in my movie list. Also, I ripped  few movies from DVD's and converted them for itunes, a process I have done dozens of times before, and neither of them will appear in any video menu. I'm going to attempt to reinstall itunes later to see if that helps; but I sure as heck don't want to do that every single time I get something.
    God I miss iTunes v6.

    Hello,
I'm unable to completely download the latest iphone software verison 5.0.1 with itunes 10.5.2.11, downloading fails with 100kb left (err = -3259). Any suggestion on how to resolve this? I manually cleaned the DNS cached as well as directly connecting my pc to the cable modem instead of the router.

Thank you for your response.  But unfortunately there's no Apple Genius Bar here in Malaysia.  Only resellers, which I feel that they are charging way too much in the first place.

  • ITunes 7 deleted "Downloads" folder of music from iTunes and iPod

In iTunes 6 I had iTunes point towards "My Music" folder in windows for my library.
One of the folders in "My Music" was called "Downloads".
NB: the music in "Downloads" is NOT my music downloaded from the iTunes Music Store... it isn't copy protected etc...
Upon upgrading to iTunes 7, i got !'s next to all my 'downloads' music.
I checked the folder and non of the music was there... all completely gone.
I do have a back up of this music, so not all is lost, but the backup is at home and I won't be able to get it for a few weeks.
So in the mean time, I plugged my iPod in, hoping to copy the downloads music off it to use until i could get my backup.
When i plugged my ipod in I got that nice new overview screen of whats on your ipod and it told me there was an update available. Ok thats cool, I'll download it an install it later (so i chose that option...)
As soon as I had done this, the iPod started updating itself and poof... all the downloads are gone of the iPod!!
Ive never had this happen before, usually if there is music on the ipod that isn't in itunes it just leaves it in there and syncs what is in my library.
I then went back to the Downloads folder in My Music to do some investigating. It turns out there were some itunes related files in there. What! iTunes deleted my "Downloads" folder, and replaced it with its own one? Grr...
Unfortunately i didn't write down what those files are, but I believe they were the files for the iPod update.
The update of my ipod actually failed and i can't get it to work... and since that has happened, the downloads folder isn't even there at all anymore. My guess would be that if i could get itunes to do the update again, the folder would reappear with those files again.

HERE IS A way too long diplomatic rant:
This is my third post on this subject. This is a real problem. And it strongly appears (based on what I've been reading from others, plus my own experience) that the new iTunes is the culprit.
But this problems is not limited to a folder named 'Downloads'.[/b.] ITunes, somehow, and for some reason, will delete entire album folders of music in the default 'Music' directory.
Here's what happened to me. Mind you, this involves music I converted to MP3's from CD's I own. I buy about ten-twenty CD's a month, so this is not some Orwellian nightmare affecting merely downloaded songs--purchased or otherwise.
Here is a typical example of what's happening:
    BEFORE iTunes v7 was installed:
-An 'Artist' folder named 'A Perfect Circle' contained the following 'Album' folders: 'Mer De Noms', 'The Thirteenth Step', 'eMotive'
SHORTLY AFTER iTunes 7 (about a month or so ago):
-Perfect Circle folder contained only the eMotive album. The rest were gone: this means not in the trash. Not moved. No where on the HD. Simply zapped.
I've lost MP3 albums from purchased CD's from Bob Marley, Led Zeppellin, Bjork, etc. It has affected at least 50 artist folders. I rip entire albums that I buy: I'm not trying to pass judgement though. I just want the point to be driven home that this bug is big, and it's affecting people who have spent much time and energy legitimately converting their music collections.
Am I missing something? I know I'm not alone in this, but this bug doesn't seem to be getting the attention it deserves from Apple. This is a major screw up. HAS APPLE RELEASED A STATEMENT? Forgive me if it has. But I can't find it. Maybe it's right under my nose?
Anyway, I do have all my music backed up on CD's and DVD's where they can't be corrupted. And all those discs are copied and stored in a remote location, in case of fire. This might seem extreme, but when you've spent a year of your life converting hundreds of albums and tagging them meticulously, you don't take chances. The only problem with this backup method is that my backup is spread out over many, many read-only discs. Moving it back to my hard drive will be laborious.
Can someone tell me if Apple has addressed this? Because I don't want to use iTunes at all if it is going to delete files. And I DON'T care if this is some function I'm not aware of. Any software that would delete files, either mistakingly or through some helpful feature is bad software. Deleting files (w/o even sending it to the Trash!) is one function that ought not be automated, or performed by any application other than the OS itself, under direct control from the user. I've turned off the option that lets iTunes manage and 'organize' my music for me. I can do that myself, and I don't like some of the things it does.
I have a friend in the media, and I'm thinking about issuing a press-release on this bug if further research indicates this is a more pervasive problem that Apple is downplaying. Certainly they are aware of it, as others have written on it here and elsewhere.
Can someone from Apple please contact me? I want to know when it is safe to use this program again. This problem is real, and just because it hasn't affected everyone, doesn't mean it has affected someone.

  • How to Troubleshoot iTunes 10.6 Download Failure in Firefox 14.0.1 ??

How to Troubleshoot iTunes 10.6 Download Failure in Firefox 14.0.1 ??
    posted Thursday, 02 August 2012 at 07:43AM PDT, by Matthew B. | @QHereKidSF
    SIMPLY-PUT !!
I am desperate to know of any possible workaround solutions that might resolve inexplicable failure(s) to download iTunes 10.6 (http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/) in Mozilla Firefox 14.0.1 Browser for Windows 7 (64-bit) OS...!!
    FURTHER DETAILED !!
In an aimlessly ill-informed effort to troubleshoot the "Please install Apple Application Support" ERROR Message reported subsequent to my numerous attempts to "repair/install" the most recent and otherwise previously up-to-date versions of Apple QuickTime & iTunes on my HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment Notebook PC, running on the Windows 7 (64-bit) OS... I mistakenly (perhaps?) thought it wise to attempt to execute a complete uninstall/reinstall of both QuickTime & iTunes. Oops... YIKES !!
Somewhere along the knotty entangled threads of my most circuitous web-research, as I browsed for information and instructional resources regarding proper procedure for (re)-installing Apple Application Support (amongst other peripheral software programs provided by Apple, Inc. as integral technical components essential to seamless & successful installation, application and operation of the most current/up-to-date versions of Apple QuickTime & Apple iTunes), I seem to recall reading explicit suggestions from well-rated community support contributors to proceed with the aforementioned course of action...
Unfortunately, now that I no longer have either Apple QuickTime or iTunes currently installed on my Win7OS HP Pavilion Notebook PC, I continue consistently to fail at initializing either a functional download or installation solely of iTunes 10.6 -- so far!!
When I link to the Apple iTunes 10.6 Download URL (listed herein, above!) and click the (blue) DOWNLOAD NOW Button located near mid-center of the left-sidebar in the presumably appropriate/correct browser tab window (fully framed and immediately visible in maximized view, on my screen), what seems then to occur is pretty much what one could only image/explain &/or describe as "zip/zilch, nothing/nada, absolute silence, stillness: a blatantly obvious failure to initiate functional download of anything at all, whatsoever...!!"
Not a single hint of code or even a mere bleep/beep/blink/blip in my Win7OS or HP Pavilion Monitor Display appears before for me; ultimately, suggesting without any real certainty whatsoever that a download of the iTunes 10.6 Software Installation Package has perhaps initialized, successfully...!!?
WHAT TO DO? What to do? ...ARGGHHH !!
I am desperate to find a workaround solution with which to troubleshoot and ideally resolve these persistent difficulties I continue to encounter when attempting to download iTunes 10.6 via Mozilla Firefox 14.0.1 on the Win7OS (64-bit) of my HP Pavilion dv4 Entertainment Notebook PC!!
Might there possibly be anyone -- anyone, at all!! -- out there, somewhere amidst the knotty entangled nets broadly cast far'cross the endlessly great and expansive waves of this worldwide cyberspace we share, who perhaps would know of a proper workaround fix with which I might troubleshoot my current web-computing technology crisis??
If indeed so, please do come diving face-first forward toward me... with any decent amount of valuably trustworthy information, instruction, advice, guidance, support or even encouragement that you might be readily willing and able to provide!! Please, please...!!?
Any worthwhile, effective assistance that's provided to me (in as short an order as possible) would be most sincerely appreciated & acknowledged widely across the web by me... with resounding cries of humble recognition, admiration, and deeply indebted gratitude!! At least, that's only as much as I can so far surmise to guarantee, at this point -- thus far and so moving forward!!
Yes, indeed...!! That's a promise which I intend to keep; should all issues be resolved well much for and in my favor, as well as much, much sooner rather than far-too much later -- hopefully, even by the end of the coming day; one might say... *sigh* Hehe. WINK/GRIN...
Boy o'boy, now... That sure would delight me to the nth-infinite degree, indeed! "As heck a'heaven-high: FOR SURE!!" I dare say...

  • My iTunes is not downloading podcasts automatically.

Only one of my podcasts is not updating and I can't figure out why. It is Living on the Edge with Chip Ingram daily podcast. I have to manually search the iTunes store to download it but it doesn't give a brief synopsis like all the others. I have already sent an email to Living on the Edge to see if there is any reason from their end. Does anyone have a solution for this?

In the latest version of iTunes (v12), you might see an exclamation point near the podcast. This might mean that iTunes has decided you have not listened to the podcast recently and has stopped downloading podcasts automatically. The way around this is to view the podcasts in the "Podcasts" mode, not the episode list mode. (See right hand of iTunes for how to list podcasts, above the list).
Once viewed in Podcast mode, you will see the exclamation point again and you can see the problem.
This feature is terrible for several reasons.
    1) It's wrong. I have been listening to the podcast on my shuffle. Are shuffles no longer supported?
    2) You have no clue what the exclamation point means in list mode. No tool tip, etc.
    3) It should bring a pop-up stating the issue when you try to refresh said podcast automatically. If I am trying to refresh a podcast, I want to download it. Shouldn't the program tell me at that point that it is not downloading podcasts?
This is user interface "fail" of major proportions. The iTunes team needs a refresh!
