Itunes 10.3 wont install...tried about 5 times...help?

For some reason, after trying to upgrade my old version of itunes the new version wont fully install. I get 'error 7" almost every single time, or i get "itunes has not full installed" then it goes away...like it uninstalls itself?
I have just downloaded the 64 bit thinking that might be the problem, but this is what i got instead...
"The version of this file is not compatible with the versio of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of the program, and then contach the software publisher. "
I have a dell inspiron 1420 laptop. no virus's, running on windows xp i think....cant really remember and not sure how to check.
Please help?

Many thanks.
Both the error 7 and the error 2 suggest that there's some damage to your Apple Application Support. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different apple programs are stashed.)
Let's try the procedure from the following post:
Re: I recently updated to vista service pack 2 and I updated to itunes 10.2.1 and ever since I did that my itunes won't open any more.  Itunes starts but before anything loads a window pops up saying that the prograam has encountered a problem and sh...

and if i remove itunes totally will i lose all of my music?
    thanks joe

    Hello Razorbacksfan88,
First, in order to check which version of iTunes is installed, launch iTunes and from the Help Menu, choose "About iTunes." This will show you which version is installed. If it is not 8.0.2.20, and you did not get any specific error messages when installing iTunes, then try the steps in this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
Removing and reinstalling iTunes will not remove your music. The music is stored in your User's folder (or on whatever drive you have your music stored on) and is separate from the program itself.
If you follow the article and are getting any error messages not mentioned there, post the entire error message here and it will help isolate the cause of the issue.

  • Itunes 10.4 wont install

Itunes 10.4 wont install. The installer goes through the motions and then has a fatal error. Have re-downloaded it three times and still not working. Have seen this issue raised on non apple forums, but not with any decent fixes (other than go to to a genius bar) ..... I would like an 'official' apple fix for the problem.

That's why we didn't buy iPods as media players.
If we knew more about your computer hardware we could make recommendations.  It's either return the iPods or upgrade your operating system to at least Leopard so you can run iTunes 10.
To get more information about your computer, go to the Apple in the upper left corner of any window, then "About This Mac", then "More Info..."  Copy and paste the information here, but omit the serial number.

I venture to say you have a Windows PC.
If so, before beginning the download try temporarily disabling your antivirus, anti-adware, anti-spyware, and any other anti-whatever that is required with the insecure OS your computer is running.

  • ITunes 9.2 wont install fully, DVD driver not Windows compatible?

I have tried to install the 9.2 version of iTunes several times but everytime it ends up with an incomplete installment. I keep getting an error message telling me the digital signature for the CD/DVD driver isn't designed for Windows and wont install. The rest installs fine but when I open iTunes I get told the software hasn't installed properly and wont work if I want to import or burn DVDs.
I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
Anyone have any idea what's going on?

I'm not sure if this is related to the installation problems but when I try and activate my iPhone (4g) the iTunes doesn't recognize the phone. It doesn't show up at all.
It could be related. A snarl-up in device filters in the registry can cause issues with both optical drives and USB connections (for example).
My suspicion here is that you've got damaged GEAR drivers for iTunes, and they are interfering with your attempts to install iTunes.
Perhaps try a manual uninstall of ther GEAR drivers (quit iTunes first):
    http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=DRIVERS:Windows_-_Updating%2C_removing%2C_64_bit_versions%2Cetc
... and then try reinstalling iTunes. Does the reinstall go through any better?

Why are you trying to download iTunes to a CD?  iTunes is a program that you need to install on your computer.

Are you installing the 64-bit version or the 32-bit version?  I personally have never had a problem installing iTunes on my Win7 64bit system.

  • Itunes wont install properly? please help!!

    hello,
iTunes is being very difficult atm! reinstalled the iTunes software and the error message comes 'iTunes wont install properly...'.
I have run a diagnostics test and hoping someone can point in the direction of how to fix it! cannot even connect my iphone device to it.
    please help!
    thanks

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps to install Firefox.
You may need to re-download a new Firefox copy.

  • Itunes wont install tried everything

i have tried to install itunes 8. comes up with not a valid win32 error. have deleted installer. dont have quicktime installed so tried to install and it came up with the same error. please help....

Saying you have tried everything doesn't help because no one else knows what you tried.
Have you seen this article on trouble installing iTunes:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
It contains advice about your error and other general help.
You could try downloading with a different browser if you have one. Turning off popup blocking and also web accelerator software if you have it.
Also when you download iTunes, save the installer on your desktop and run it from there. Also turn off virus checking during the actual install.
If none of that works, you could try downloading from an alternative site assuming the mods don't edit out the link which they sometimes do.

Have you had any problems with downloads from other sites?

  • Itunes wont install - trying to remove a corrupt older version

I cant install itunes because it tries to uninstall an old version. I get an error message saying it is looking for a file that no longer exists, which i can no longer find on my computer either. Actually it is looking for itunes.msi which I have searched for all instances on my computer, and it will not accept any of them as the correct file.
I am also unable to unistall the old version from control panel for the same reason.
How can I get itunes to install or how can I remove the old version manually?
Alternatively, how can I trick the new install to not try and remove the old version?
    Any thoughts. PLEASE!
    Thank you,
    Neil

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Can't get Itunes to work or install - Tried Everything

OK! It started as Itunes would not load on one of my users on Win XP (although it did work on1).
I recently formatted my whole computer. I reinstalled Itunes and Quicktime using the current update from the apple website, and both worked fine on my user. However, on the 3 other users on the computer, neither work.
I have tried to uninstall Quicktime (on both my user and other users) and everytime get the error message :
"Error:- 1603 Fatal error during installation..."
I have even tried using windows install cleanup as mentioned earlier and then trying to reinstall quicktime from a stand alone update (however, this still does not work as I get the same error message as above).
I cannot edit the registry because every time I get a message saying:
"Cannot open Apple Computer Inc, Error while opening key"
I have tried system restore and then reinstalled iTunes but that doesnt work.
I have also tried the solution with the iTunes folder in My music.
    BUT NOTHING IS WORKING
Now iTunes will not load on any user and I cannot install quicktime as it comes up saying :
"Quicktime failed to initialize" Error # 63441"
I have thoroughly searched the discussions and not found a solution.
I really am stuck, so if anyone has any suggestions, I would really really appreciate them!

    hi drummerman!
sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
my hypothesis at the moment is that you've actually got three different rare problems all piled on top of each other.
    (1) a rare variation on the weird rare registry/user-account thing (in which itunes will open in one preexisting account but not in other preexisting user accounts). i've seen that new Error # 63441 (or similar error numbers) show up under those circumstances too.
    (2) a really rare sort of registry-related 1603. (i think i've only seen that about three times in toto.)
    (3) and to cap it off, that strange situation where the registry isn't allowing you to make any edits ... which would compromise the techniques i've seen used with some success against similar versions of 1 and 2.
... so we're going to be experimenting for a little while, trying to get some toeholds on the rock wall of progress.
the first experiment is going to be related to confirming my diagnosis in (1) and trying to get around (3).
head into your user accounts control panel, and try to create a new user account with full administrative privileges. (there's help documentation on that to the left of the control panel screen.) while you're in that control panel, switch off fast user switching in your logging-on preferences.
now log out of whichever old account you were in, and log in to the new account.
    (1) does itunes launch successfully from inside the new account?
    (2) does the registry allow you to make any edits from inside the new account?
keep us posted. (i'm moving a little slowly through reply backlogs and whatnot at the moment, but i will be back to check on your progress.)
    love, b
