ITunes 10.4.1 on Lion isn't recognizing my devices

I upgraded to Lion about two months ago.  I upgraded to iTunes 10.4.1 a little over three weeks ago.  Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 10.4.1 I cannot sync any of my six devices.  I have spoken to Apple, but they don't have any ideas.  There were good communications between us for two weeks, but now in the third week of my problem, no contact.
Whenever I connect a device to my iMac while iTunes is running, the computer recognizes the device and iTunes immediately becomes non-responsive.  It doesn't matter which type of device I connect, an iPod or an iPad it does the same thing.  Any ideas would be great as I use my iPad as a textbook for my children and I cannot update it.  Thanks.

I figured out how to show the hidden files, but even after doing that, the files weren't there.  On the page that you showed me, it says "Note: These steps do not apply to OS X Lion" and since I am using Lion, it didn't work

I have the same problem. Running Win 8 64Bit, updated to latest ITunes and now will not recognize phone or pad. Followed all advice from Apple (uninstall/restart/re-install, all in exact order) ... nothing. Spoke with Apple tech and walked through the whole process, but no resolution. Tech was trying to be helpful but has no way of addressing issue.

I also live in the United States so redownloading shouldn't be a problem.

  • New iPhone 6 Plus crashed during ios 8.1 update and iTunes isn't recognizing the device

I deleted a bunch of pictures and music on my phone to have enough storage space to back up my phone. I decided to update my phone first (ios 8.1) and it seemed to be going smoothly. It's hard to remember exactly what happened but when it was almost complete, something went wrong and it indicated that it hadn't installed correctly. It said I needed to clear more storage space in order to complete the installation so I restarted the phone. When it turned back on, I attempted to install the update again (the storage wasn't an issue) and it immediately went into "verifying install" mode before shutting off. Now I only have the screen that indicates I need to plug it into iTunes but the device isn't recognized when I plug it in. Powering it down, holding down different buttons, etc. doesn't work! Help!

  • My edited FCPX files from OS Lion isn't recognized by Mountain Lion X

We have two Retina display laptops. One of them has been upgraded to Mountain Lion OS. After finishing video editing in FCPX with my laptop using OS Lion, when attempting to open the same files on my other laptop in FCPX(which has the Mountain Lion OS installed), it will not recognize it and displays the color "red" with a question mark on it! We need help! What can we do in order for the files to be read with ML OS?

  • I have one ipod shuffle synced on my computer but it won't let me sync a second one. Device isn't recognized and device icon doesn't show up in itunes

I have one ipod shuffle synced in itunes on my computer but it won't even recognize a second ipod

Is the second iPod also a shuffle, or is it a "big" iPod?  If they are both shuffles, what are the two shuffle types?  This document shows the four types of shuffles.

I unistalled itunes on my computer because it said it wasn't installed properly and I wouldn't be able to burn CD's.  So I uninstalled it and hooked my phone back up to itunes and it doesn't recognize my phone.  How do I fix that?

  • My CD/DVD Drive isn't recognized by device manager or my Pavilion dv6809wm anymore.

I have a Pavilion dv6809wm, and it originally had Vista 32 bit installed. I upgraded my RAM, hard drive and OS (to Windows 7 64-bit) about 2 months ago, and it was working great. Beginning of last week, my cd/dvd drive stopped working. I go into the device manager in the control panel, and it doesn't show any cd/dvd drives. I checked in the BIOS, and it is present there. The LED light is flashing. I went into the registration editor and removed the  upper filters, hoping that would fix it, but it is still flashing at me. I've tried using the Microsoft Mr. Fixit, and tried using the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter, as described at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060 and http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter . I've still got nothing. Any suggestions?

Well, now based on something that I saw when I hit escape at the hp splash screen makes me wonder if this truly is the problem... It said "No TPM or TPM has problem", which, when typed into Google, led me to another thread on the HP Support forum. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HP-dv6810us-NO-TPM-or-TPM-has-problem-error-in-BIOS/t...  When I read through the thread and replies, I'm starting to see that this is endemic, that is, a problem that is common to Inspiron dv6000 series computers. I can't really afford a $250 solution, and I only spent $800 on the darn thing in the first place. I guess I'll have to revert to country boy mentality: use it up, make it work, make do with what you got.

  • 3rd gen iPod Touch not syncing with iTunes 10.4.1 on Lion?

I've had a 3rd gen 64GB iPod Touch for almost two years now and I've only had one problem with syncing it before. I followed this (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1747) and it helped. But since I updated my MacBook Pro to Lion, this article no longer applies and iTunes hasn't recognized my iPod. My iPod does show up in iPhoto though. Everything is fully updated and I restored my iPod using another computer, but even after doing that my iPod isn't recognized in iTunes. Also, my iPod won't go into recovery mode. It shows the connect to iTunes screen but when I connect it, nothing happens. I've tried restarting my computer and my iPod many times and I've tried everything I know.
Now, since restoring, I have nothing on my iPod and I use it every day so any help would be appreciated.

  • Itunes isn't finding my device but iPhoto does

When I plug in my iphone 5 iphoto opens right away but itunes doesn't find it.  So I can't sync or download anything to the phone.

Hi.  Thank you for trying to help me.
I have the latest version of iTunes.  I run Mountain Lion, not Mavericks.  But it is the latest OSX for Mountain Lion.
The other  thing it sometimes does is it seems to find the device but get stuck in loading the device.  It just isn't able to finish loading the devices, whether my phone or ipad.  And then iTunes can't quit by itself.  It needs to be force quit.  It won't even command Q quit - you have to go to the apple and force quit from there.  It just gets stuck.

  • HT203167 A movie I purchased in the iTunes store is missing. It isn't hidden and doesn't show up in search. I've followed support steps.  Where is it and how do I find it?  I believe I originally purchased the film on my 1st Gen AppleTV.

It was Love Actually. It's been in my library a few years but is now missing. It's odd...it isn't even in the iTunes Store anymore. I think there is a rights issue because a message appeared in the store saying it wasn't available at this time in the U. S. store. Still, if I bought it years ago it should be in my library or I should get a refund....

  • I had to get my hard drive replaced from Apple, I lost all of my music obviously.  My question is, how can I get all my music off of my iPhone onto iTunes?  Since it's a new hard drive, the iPhone isn't recognizing this as it's home computer.

You will need to use third-party software to transfer music from your phone to the iTunes Library. I recommend Phone to Mac - Pod to Mac | Macroplant.com.

  • Manually migrating iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion..

    Hi all,
I received a shiny new iMac yesterday and in my haste to get it up and running, I began to run the migration assistant on wi-fi.  Unfortunately, my 2006 macbook model is so old that my firewire cables don't actually fit the firewire port on the back of the iMac!!
11 hours later, there was still 40 hours left to go.  At this point I manually quit the migration assistant. Partly because I have to work and to work I need to use a computer and partly because I realised that I don't want all the old crud from my previous system.. all I want is my iTunes (songs, apps, playlists etc) and my iPhoto to migrate.
The original admin account that the migration assistant was going to replace was still there.  Everything seems to be working fine... I did a quick repair of disk permissions and all seems fine.   So, I think I flirted with danger by quiting the migration assistant, but danger doesn't seem to have flirted back.
I've searched high and low on the web and I can't find any advice on migrating just your iPhoto and iTunes from Snow Leopard to Lion.  I did read a post somewhere (relating to a migration to Leopard) where someone wrote that, for iPhoto, you simply had to replace your iPhoto Library in your pictures folder on the destination machine and then simply start iPhoto.  iPhoto would upgrade the databases etc and all would be fine in the world.  I cannot find a post online that suggests that this is also the case for Lion.
Can anyone here give me some hints on how to manually migrate the iPhoto and iTunes libraries over (and still preserve playlists in iTunes, albums/events in iPhoto etc)?
I figure that I cannot be the only person in the world who wants a "fresh start" on their machine, with the exception of iPhoto and iTunes.

Resident apple gurus at work have advised me to use the migration assistant and plug an ethernet cable between machines.
I'll give this a go and then go through the process of removing and cleaning up whatever old data I can.. but if someone posts a response to this question for me, I'll happily roll back in time-machine and go again in a cleaner way. :-)

  • I updated from windows xp to windows 7 and can not get into my itunes account.  I get the notice that I am only allowed 5 devices and this isn't a new device just an updated one.  How do I get to my itunes?

Take a look at Apple's document for authorizations -> iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization.
You can deauthorize all computers from iTunes. All you have to do is click iTunes Store, click your account name in the upper right corner of iTunes, then deauthorize all.
