ITunes 10.4 looks awful... is it meant to?

Hi,
Just installed the iTunes 10.4 update and it has caused to to revert to that ugly ugly itunes 8 look... the battleship grey window background has come back and the close/minimalize/zoom buttons have migrated back to the horizontal position at the top instead of being aligned vertically at the left. Also, the main iTunes window now has the title -iTunes- at the top, whereas it had a simple thin border before. What is going on? Is it meant to be like this or has something gone wrong?

This is my first time back to the support forums since they've been changed to "communities," Apple created an OS with system wide integrated spell checking, but on their own website's comment fields I can't right click to correct the spelling of a word, instead I get a goofy—and limited—formatting popup. Not cool, and not well thought out.
I don't have any problems with the transport controls, volume slider, nor Genius Mix thumbnails. If any of those truly are "jacked up" for you, you probably have a problem with the iTunes installation. I'd suggest starting a new thread with details about the issue and perhaps someone can help you sort it out.
Spell-check and formatting controls are all a function of the forum software, created by Jive Software, not Apple. Just FYI.

I've read through at least 30 pages on this forum and seem to be unable to find something to help me remedy my problem.
I made a really simple site in iWEB. When I publish to a folder and click the "visit this site now" button, everything looks perfect. However, once I upload the site, using Fetch, the site looks awful. The Arial font is replaced by something else. The "made on a mac" image disappears. The navbar is non existent, and none of my other pages display properly (when I manually enter there addresses).
I read a previous post about changing my Fetch settings so that data uploads in binary (raw) form and did that. I tried changing text-encoding in my browser to UTF-8, but that did not help either.
I've cleared the folder on my home computer a number of times and tried republishing and re-uploading and that does not help. I've tried viewing the page in Safari, Mozilla, and Explorer, and it looks terrible in all 3. The site is:

You have changed the permissions (or they are incorrect) on your home_files directory. I get a forbidden message when trying to access that directory. The sylesheet (css) and other files there dictate how the home page is diplayed. Make sure that all the permissions on the directories for your site are set correctly.

Sign-in to your iTunes Account, you can see which computers are authorised. If necessary de-authorise all and authorise those again that you need.

Guys, I found another user and what he said to do worked!!! I have copied the information below:
This was 1 of the things that happend to me too, the other one was that at the bottom of the itunes page were it says all the memory info, it marked that I had over 3gb of other memory wich I didn't.
Anyways what I did was to unmark the calendar, contacts etc. ( so that they wont sync with the computer ), pressed apply, then I marked all of them again, apply again and for last I pressed Sync wich is at the bottom right coner by the apply botton.
I'm not sure that had anything to do with it but it worked, my music appeard both of my itunes playlists and the ones I bought in itunes. Also the other memory dissapeard and it's all good.
I'm not sure this will help you but thats my 5 cents, if the problem continues its better to call customer service and ask for a technician.

When you launch iPhoto with the option key depressed you'll get this window:

All libraries on your hard drive (and on external drives) will be listed and the currently used library will be listed as (default).

Export in pdf: looks awful in Acrobat Reader

I wanna do a simple 1024*768 pdf (from sources i use for iPad app made in Digital Publishing Suite)
WHen iI export in .pdf, there's no way (well, for me, so far) to get the pdf have the right size/dpi ratio than in my original innn document
my document is made for web,, my images as well (all 1024*768, full page)
when i open the pdf (i tried all possibilites in choices i'm given) it looks awful
the acrobat reader says it's 100%, but 100% of what ?
certainly not the100% from my original documlent, it opens way much bigger.
I't only looks good when it's on 66,7% on acrobat reader
Anyone got a clue ?

well, when I export from indesign to pdf , i got the choice between "interactive" or "print", I chose interactive, and there's no way to set up anything else appart from pages (all/specify) etc.etc.

HD video from iMovie looks awful when converted in iDVD

Shot some 16:9 HD video and made a project in iMovie, then "shared" it to iDVD to create a standard-definition DVD.
Unfortunately, the resulting DVD looks awful - far worse than a commercial standard-def DVD. The image is very pixelated in a manner that seems worse than standard-def resolution limitations. I processed it using the iDVD "professional" encoding.
Why does this look so bad, and by "bad" I mean worse than other standard-def DVDs? Is there a way to optimize the stepping down from HD between iMovie and iDVD?

There are some observations to this
• I do not use - Share to iDVD - in any version of iMovie
• iM'08 or 09 or 11 - I Share to Media Browser - and in iDVD get the movie from here - result is better
BUT - iM'08 or 09 or 11 - are not tools to use if You want a Good DVD
• iMovie up to HD6 or FinalCut any version are ! They keep all lines that builds up the picture - the new ones
discard every second line resulting in a 50% loss of sharpness
Especially if recorded im SD-video format on miniDV tape (interlaced) then choise of video editing application is very important.

My Dell U2412M monitor looks awful on OS X

I bought my first Mac (Mini 2014) and attached to my Dell U2412M external monitor and the graphics looks awful, all blurry and pixelated.
For the avoidance of any doubt:
1) Mini is connected to minitor via miniDP to DP cable
2) Color is correctly set to RGB
3) Resolution is on the right setting
4) Pictures look fine, the problem is just with the font rendering, in any application
5) Have tried turning LCD font smoothing on and off but does not really make a big difference
Any other setting I can try? Is Mac really this bad at handling fonts? I use the same monitor on a windows laptop and font is crystal clear. It is like looking at a 1024x768 screen while mine is a pretty decent 1920x1200.

Switched from NAS to external harddrive but Itunes is still looking for NAS

I used to have a NAS (Net attached storage) and i switched to a Seagate 1TB external harddrive, I copied the whole Itunes library, program etc...and it runs but it is 7.6 version so it would not identify my ipod until i updated the software, so i go to update, download the update and go to do the update and I get a error message that it cant locate //nas/disk1 the old destination...I went so far as to delete itunes and Quicktime and redownload itunes 8.1 so i go to install it and it is still looking for //nas/disk1 now i have a folder with 375gb of music and movies and no program to run it.... I try to go into control panel add/delete programs and itunes is still in there so i go to delete and I get a error message that it cant delete it because it cant find //nas/disk1...*** I need help Please someone tell me what i have to do to I was able to delete quicktime but it still shows itunes and it will not let me install itunes...i did a search through the computer and ther are no files for itunes so i do not know why it is still trying to locate it from there....HELP

The reason that you are getting the ! is because iTunes is still looking for the music on your external hard drive.
You need to create a new library iTunes: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one
Now turn on iTunes Match and select add this computer. You will now see all your music in the cloud. When you want to add new music, revert to the original library on your external hard drive.

DVD looks awful on Sony Bravia 26" LCD

I've created many DVDs and always check them on a CRT TV. They always look great (given that they are shot on DV). However, I have purchased a Sony Bravia, and when I viewed the DVD it looked awful: smearing, blocky, traily, etc.
Given that most of my clients have LCDs or plasmas I'm worried that they will see a similar picture.
Does anyone have any tips for getting better results (apart from throwing away the Bravia)?

I edit in FCP, uprezed the edit to 8 bit 4:2:2 uncompressed, encoded to mpeg2 with Bitvice, then used DVDSPro to create the DVD

Those rates are the default bitVice settings and a good place to usually start. As the bit rate too high issue take a look at this link

The way you describe the problem it sounds like something where Compression markers could help - basically it flags portions of the video which you want the encoder to really make sure it gets right. Press the "M" key over the timeline twice (first one sets the marker second brings up the dialog) where the issue is and set it to Compression Marker in the dialog.
If these issues are right before/after a cut sometimes changing the cut by a couple of frames can help or change the length of a dissolve by a couple of frames (I just had one thing where I had the ghosting and the rest and that took care of the issues, the problem areas were on the cuts/dissolves.)
Try sending the section with the problem from Final Cut directly to Compressor and also keep the timeline at DV to see if that helps (do not change codecs) in case there is something happening when you are switching codecs. That can also be a part of the issue.

Powerpoint presentation created on Mac looks awful on PC - I'M DESPERATE!

I am creating a Powerpoint presentation on my G-5 that will be shown tomorrow, probably on a PC.
I burned a disc tonight as a test and viewed it on a PC and all the fonts look awful.
It has coverted them to something else entirely and in the process totally messed up alignment, etc.
I may have no control over what this is shown on, so I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to embed fonts into a Powerpoint, so that whatever it is shown on, it will look right.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to use Powerpoint to display the presentation I don't think you have any choice but to use Windows fonts that you would expect to find on a typical PC.
Couldn't you print the presentation as a PDF and use Adobe Reader to display the slides? A PDF created on a Mac should look the same on a PC because fonts are embedded in the PDF.

Help! DVD copies looking awful!!

The DVDs I'm burning look awful. I am exporting a project from FCP to a QT movie. The QT looks fine on the computer when I play it back full screen but when I burn it to a DVD it looks horrible both on the computer and from a DVD player. This is a weird turn of events since I have downloaded and made files from the same project many times and did not have this problem. The resolution is so jagged and the titles look horrible.
I am not using any compression when making the QT. I have used current settings - which are HDV 1280 x 720p and, when that looked bad, I tried using pro res 422 720p. I have changed the settings in idvd 6 to Best Performance and have also tried the Best Quality Setting.
I've been searching this forum for hours for answers about my problem. I have tried every fix I can find to no avail. I'm desperate now since I need to get a dvd in the mail today in order to make a festival deadline.
Please help!

Shane's Stock Answer #42 - David Roth Weiss' Secret Quick and Dirty Way to Author a DVD:
The absolute simplest way to make a DVD using FCP and DVDSP is as follows:
1. Export a QT movie, either a reference file or self contained using current settings.
2. Open DVDSP, select the "graphical" tab and you will see two little monitors, one blue, one green.
3. Select the left blue one and hit delete.
4. Now, select the green one, right click on it amd select the top option "first play".
5. Now drag your QT from the broswer and drop it on top of the green monitor.
6. Now, for a DVD from an HD source, look to the right side and select the "general tab" in the track editor, and see the Display Mode, and select "16:9 pan-scan."
7. Hit the little black and yellow burn icon at the top of the page and put a a DVD in when prompted. DVDSP will encode and burn your new DVD.
THATS ALL!!!
NOW...if you want a GOOD LOOKING DVD, instead of taking your REF movie into DVD SP, instead take it into Compressor and choose the BEST QUALITY ENCODE (2 pass VBR) that matches your show timing. Then take THAT result into DVD SP and follow the rest of the steps. Except you can choose "16:9 LETTERBOX" instead of PAN & SCAN if you want to see the entire image.

I believe it is asking you to enter your CVV code.
Edit your billing info, fill in the red box on iTunes.
