ITunes 10.5.0.142 Crashes Whenever Music Added to Library

This has been pestering me for a few weeks now and so now I'm taking it to you, random cloud of internet people. Whenever I attempt to load music files into my iTunes library it crashes more or less immediately. The error message reads as such:
Problem Event Name:          APPCRASH
  Application Name:          iTunes.exe
  Application Version:          10.5.0.142

Now, I've tried a clean install, did a sweep for malware, and looked into replacing the Oleaut32.DLL but can't figure out how to work around 7's anti-fiddling protocols (probably for the better, really). I'm running Windows 7 64-bit and, generally speaking, iTunes is being rather cranky. Just. Make it stop.

I guess I should also note that sometimes it just crashes... just because.
So, get to fixin'.
No, seriously, fix it.

  • When I plug in my ipod Nano i syncs to itunes but I can't get the music from my Library in Windows Media Player???

How can I get my music from my Library in Windows Media Player to sync to my iPod Nana?

You can't sync an iPod using Windows Media Player.  You need to add the songs to your iTunes library first, and then sync those songs to the iPod.
This document provides more information (Add to Library section)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1347
NOTE:  The WMA files (the file type used by Window Media Player) need to be unprotected (no DRM).  They are converted to a format supported by iTunes while adding to the iTunes library.  This WMA conversion feature only works in the Windows version of iTunes (Mac users cannot do it).
I believe you can drag and drop the WMA files, or the folder containing the WMA files, onto the iTunes window.  The original WMA files are not changed.  iTunes creates its own converted files at the location it stores all the iTunes media files.

Whenever I pause a song, iTunes crahses. Currently using Windows 8.1 Pro, and I haven't experienced this on the last versions.
    Anybody know what to do?

    Hey Adamj291,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are experiencing issues with iTunes after updating. Let’s see if we can isolate this issue by starting iTunes in safe mode:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3430
There are several ways in which an add-on can cause iTunes to act erratically, such as those listed below:
    - Loss of iTunes functionality, such as the Visualizer.
    - Distortion or irregularity in the iTunes interface.
    - Slow performance.
    - iTunes won't open or quits unexpectedly.
    - You see an alert while syncing stating "... cannot be synced. A duplicate file name was specified."
If you notice any of the above symptoms or other unusual behavior, you can disable any plug-ins not manufactured by Apple by opening iTunes in Safe Mode. This is done by holding down the Option and Command keys (on Mac OS X) or holding down the Shift and Control keys (on Windows) while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see the following dialog before iTunes finishes starting up:
"iTunes is running in Safe Mode. Visual plug-ins you have installed have been temporarily disabled."
If the above does not resolve your issue, I’d like to isolate further by testing in another user account:
Isolating an issue by using another user account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4053
    Symptoms
When isolating issues and/or troubleshooting software issues in OS X, you might want to use a different user account. Learn how to use this technique to narrow down the cause of an issue.
    Resolution
The issue at hand may simply be caused by a bad preference setting or user-specific data file. With proper isolation, you can avoid time-consuming and inappropriate troubleshooting methods.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Itunes library on NAS upgrading computers don't want to lose music added to library via CDs help

    Hello all,
I'm upgrading from an old Win XP machine to a Windows 8 machine.  Complete iTunes library has already been transferred to a network drive (NAS) and is accessible to both machines via Home Sharing.  I want to remove the XP machine from the mix but I'm afraid I will no longer be able to access any music that was added to my library from CDs and not the iTunes Store.  What can I do to ensure I can acces the entire library and begin to sync my iPods, iPhones, etc. via the Windows 8 machine (after removing the old XP machine) - exactly like I did before.  Somebody help a brother out here...  thanks!

  • HT1373 I have a new Ipad with retina display but two issues with itunes 1) I can not syncronize films&music with the library on my mac and 2) When I download music or films from itunes to my ipad from itunes store the download never finishes. Any help??

I have a two problems with my new Ipad 2 operating system iOS 6.1.3
    1) I can not syncronize with my itunes purchaces that I have on my mac book pro (operating system mountain lion)
    2) When i purchase items from itunes store the downloads never finishes
I have tried starting and re-starting. Resetting the Ipad to original settings and non of this have worked. Any idea to what I should do?
    Thanks a lot, Josephine

That's one of the weird things.. it recognizes it maybe 10% of the time. And usually, only after I do the two-button reset. Problem is.. since it won't charge above 2%, anytime I try to do a restore or anything like that using iTunes, my device shuts off and I lose whatever progress I'd made.
So, an update... after reading through a bunch of similar complaints (there are literally 1000's of them so there's NO WAY this isn't somehow ios7 related, thanks a lot APPLE ) I decided to try a restore in recovery mode. After 3 hours and several disconnections... I ended up having to just set it up as a new iPad, as the restore did nothing. Weirdly though... as I was doing the restore in recovery mode.. I noticed I'd gotten up to a 10% charge.. higher than it's been since September, so after setting it up as a new device, I turned it off and plugged it in using the wall charger. 2 hours later and I was up to 38%. Still not great, as my iPad, before ios7 could've fully charged twice in the amount of time it took for me to now get 28% more of a charge. And that's with a fully cleaned out device.. so that really ***** and I'm now more confused than ever.
But I'm gonna leave it overnight charging and see what I come up with tomorrow. Sadly, when I paid $600 for it in February, I never expected to have to play "wait and see" with it...

  • Macbook Pro Crashes Whenever I tranfer iPhoto Library to External HDD

I have a 1 month old Macbook Pro running Mavericks 10.9.2 and I am trying to back up my iPhoto library (about 52 GB file size) to an external HDD (Western Digital) and it always crashes my system and I am forced to restart.
The drive is a 2TB drive with 2 partitions. 500GB for Time Machine and 1.5 TB for general storage.
I have tried restarting the macbook, unplugging and replugging the drive in. I've repaired the general storage partition and none of that works.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic report (with a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic") under the heading System Diagnostic Reports on the left. If you don't see that heading, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Post the entire contents of the report — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post any other kind of diagnostic report, such as a hang report.

  • HT1751 if i back up my itunes to an external drive, will new music added to my itunes automatically appear in my external drive?

  • ITunes 10.2.1.1 Crashing in Windows 7 SP1 - My solution

I will first start off and say my solution isn't the prettiest girl at the dance but it will get you what you want.
Like most of you I spent the last couple weeks combing the Internet for answers but nothing works. iTunes would just stop working/crash whenever I connected my iPhone (3GS). So finally what I did was uninstalled iTunes, ran CCleaner to clean up my registry, rebooted and installed iTunes without all the bloatware (guide here: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/28727/how-to-install-itunes-without-extra-bloat/).
The next thing I did before I started up iTunes was i backed up all my music, mobile apps, ringtones, etc on to an external hard drive so that i could have an untouched copy. After that I deleted the original directories and an library, preference or whatever files that had to do with the previous installations of iTunes. Then I copied all my music, mobile apps, ringtones, etc to a third location (my desktop) so that I can keep the external hard drive pristine.
After all that I opened iTunes and let it search my desktop for music to put in the library. After this was done I consolidated the files back to the original location on my NAS. Then I closed iTunes moved my mobile apps, ringtones, etc directories back to my iTunes folder on my NAS. I then went back into iTunes and connected my iPhone. I got a message that there was a new (iOS 4.3.1) update for the iPhone but I canceled that for now.
I sat there for about 10 minutes waiting for the Task Manager to show iTunes - Not Responding, but that never happened. I then went ahead and set iTunes to sync with the phone . I got a message saying that the phone wasn't synced to this library and that it will have to be erased and what not. My phone wasn't, but I am not sure your phone wont be. I clicked yes and then went thru the normal sync process of having the apps and everything backed up. After this was done I updated with the new 4.3.1. iOS and everything seems to be working fine now. It did take me about 3 days to do all this but i have a huge music library.
I might have missed a step or two but you get the idea. Someone screwed up somewhere and the new iTunes doesn't play nice with old library or preference files for some reason. Not sure if it was someone at Apple or MS, but it really doesn't matter because both companies should be able to prevent this.
I do not offer any support in this manner and the last thing I will say is be careful and make sure you backup everything often.

Hey, I have had my intunes soley shut down my computer numerous times, for the past month or so. I realize now it is only within my itunes, but it may not only be itunes. My desktop and a lot of cashed info have been cleared now, as a result of a ton of restarts by completely shutting the power most likely.
I have been too lazy to back up my music because it messes stuff up, and goes so slow it crashes. it will probably work better if I dont even touch itunes and just transfer small parts of my library at a time, not all 120+ gb!
I think a my computer is
               a fried
b my files are terribly corrupted
c or my itunes is compromised
either way, i will back up my music, but what do you think the chances are my music is the culprate, and by backing it up I will have the same problem in the future?
i've been thinking re-installing itunes would be best
    let me know....thanks

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • My daughter has an ipod and used itunes through her mom's account, we now set up a new itunes for her iphone, we were able to transfer the purchased music to the library but not the songs she had on old cd's, how do I get all the music off her ipod?

My stepdaughter has an ipod and used her mom's itunes account, now we set her up with her own itunes but I can only transfer purchased music to her library. How do I get all of her music off of her ipod? (she doesn't have all the cd's she used)

You may be able to buy a program to do this - not supported by Apple.
the ipod is not a storage device.  The sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The only exception is itunes purchaes.
The music should be on a computer as that is where they came from in the first place.

  • After updating, not all the music in my library syncs to my iPod Touch - entire albums are missing. What to do?"

After an update of iTunes and the iPod, not all the music in the library syncs to the iPod. Entire "albums" are missing. Any suggestions?

Yes I've done a reset but it made no difference.

  • Music stays in Library

ok, this might be a stupid question......
I have my music on a  NAS ....in Itunes, perfences - i chosen not to copy music to the library or itunes folder.  When i start Itunes it will list what ever songs that were played and i can play them without being connected to the NAS.  I figured by clicking on a song, it would need to reload it from the NAS

Having the same problem. Album imported on CD won´t appear in my music on Itunes! It´s in the Itunes files and in the Recently Added folder, but it won´t appear!
I can play it from the outside file! So frustrating.

  • ITunes crashes, whenever I want to listen to music

I don' have any problems to import music from CDs to my hard disc, but then ITunes crashes whenever I want to listen to music from my hard disc. Usually not only iTunes, but alll the OS. Could somebody please tell me what might be the reason for that annoyance? Thank you very much!

When I use iTunes to listen to music on my G4, it plays fine for about an hour ... then triggers a restart of the whole system. It happens plugged in, on battery power, with the network available, without the network available, with AirPort on or off ... in short, it's happened every time regardless of what other variables I've changed. And this has been happening for several versions of iTunes ... I first noticed it in February '05. This leads me to believe that it's intentional ... so how do I turn off this 'feature'???
WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION?!?!?!?!?
