ITunes 10.5.1 no longer plays purchased movies

Hello guys/gals,
So this is a problem I've been struggling to find an answer for and I've not gotten desperate enough to pay $30 for the one-time incident fee, YET. Currently own a Macbook Pro w/ i7 core. Running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and iTunes 10.5.1. I've noticed recently that my purchased Movies no longer work. I purchased Hurt locker and Truth in 24 some months ago (honestly probably about a year ago) and I am no longer able to play these movies. I read elsewhere that our WIndows counterparts were struggling with Quicktime and that is why iTunes would fail to play videos. This confuses me because allegedly 10.5.1 now comes with Quicktime X with it. So I removed my old Quicktime 7.7 from my computer thinking perhaps it is a failure in the dependancy. Alas, to no avail. So I have come to ask for your infinite wisdom and perhaps shed some light on what may be the problem, if others have the same problem, and whether there has been a solution identified?

They did try to help but nothing worked. Tried deleting the movies from iTunes and then reinstalling them from my "purchased list" but some of the files were missing.  They have no idea how that could have happened. Ironically all of the movies still work on a previous veraion of iTunes on my older mac. Go figure !!

  • HT201322 itunes 11.0.3 - in my iTunes library I can no longer see purchased TV shows and Movies that are not downloaded to my computer. also In my Itunes account i have no hidden TV shows or Movies

    I'm running itunes 11.0.3 -
in my iTunes library I can no longer see purchased TV shows and Movies that are not downloaded to my computer.
In my Itunes account i have no hidden TV shows or Movies
I used to be able to view all cloud and downloaded content.  I no longer can.

There used to be option to show items that are in the cloud in your library, but I can't find where that now is (unless it's been removed). You should be able to see what items that you can re-download via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page (at the top right of that there should be a 'not on this computer' button)
Edit : Just seen your reply, though I don't appear to have that setting on mine.

  • I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore

I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore from an HDV camera that play on other macs and play in vlc. It happened all of a sudden. Files that I could play before no longer play. It seems to be something wrong with the quicktime codec management because the files do not play in premiere and final cut pro. In FCP it says: File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. These files work on other computers. I have four drives and it doesnt matter which file i attempt to open on each drive, these files are unreadable on this system. Please help. Possible issues might be a corrupted index, but i dont understand how that can go across four different drives.

Apple kindly updated Quicktime and rendered Firestore files unplayable. I think a recent update of iTunes was the culprit.
Solutions: What I did. Wipe the system disc. Re-install Snow Leopard. Re-install FCP7. Don't update Quicktime or iTunes to anything after Jun 2011. QT v7.6.6 is the last good version. That'll get your files back.
A colleague tried a different approach. For this you need a pre-July 2011 version of the file QuickTimeComponents.component.  It is in the system/library/QuickTime folder. Delete your current one and drop in an old one.
However if you're working with Final Cut X, I think you screwed until Focus and Apple work something out. My address is on my contacts page at teevideousadotcom if you need any further help.

  • Can apple tv be used to play purchased movies without broadband via airplay

can apple tv be used to play purchased movies from a ipad without broadband via airplay

The only times I've tried - on holiday/vacation with no broadband - this has failed because Airplay of protected content requires a brief authorisation connection to Apple's servers.
Conversely an ipad hooked up to a TV using the HDMI adapter works without internet for media stored on it as does a Mac computer running iTunes eg MacMini with HDMI out.

  • Cannot play purchased movies or music videos on ATV3 via AirPlay

Music, photos, and mirroring work fine.  When I try to play purchased movies and music videos from iTunes, I get "Operation could not be completed -3".  Everything is updated to the latest iOS.  The router is a Belkin N450DB wireless on factory settings.  This location also does not have internet, just the home wi-fi network.  I have even plugged the ATV into the router via ethernet and still no video.  I have tried and gotten the same results with iPhone 4s, iPad 3, PC laptop with iTunes with same Apple ID as ATV.
If it makes a difference, I setup, updated, and added my Apple ID to the ATV from a different location with internet, but moved it after I thought it had been set up.  Thanks in advance for any tips, I am clueless!!

  • Playing purchased movies

Am I able to play purchased movies through the cloud as opposed to using all the space on my ipad?

With iOS 7 you should have a Settings > iTunes & App Store > Videos option (under 'show all' heading) which you can set 'on' so that films and TV programmes that are in the cloud will show in the Videos app (films and/or TV programmes can't be redownloaded in all countries so they might not show in Videos, and if the rights-holders remove them from the store then they also won't show) - they will have a cloud icon on them. That will allow you to stream them, but you may also find that they take up space on your iPad whilst they are being streamed, in which case you should be able to then delete them from your iPad's storage via Settings > General > Usage > Videos

  • HT5100 Cannot play purchased movie on external home projector - protection warning

Cannot play purchased movie on external home projector - protection warning
I purchased a movie at the iTunes store on my Mac air laptop. Then I connected the Mac to my home projector and cannot play it due to a warning about protection.... YET I HAVE PURCHASED THE MOVIE TO WATCH ON MY HOME PROJECTOR THEATRE SYSTEM
This is not good - a rip off!!!!!!

Some displays cannot handle the HDCP bandwidth requirements. An example would be the older cinema display.
I had this problem. However when connected to a mormal HD TV via Apple TV3 plays fine

  • HT1390 this movie requires quicktime which isn't supported by this version of iTunes, 10.6, when trying to play rented movies?

anyone ever gotten the message:this movie requires quicktime which isn't supported by this version of iTunes, 10.6, when trying to play rented movies?
    how to fix it?

i also want to add that this video shows status " stopped (err = 503)"

  • Why can't I play purchased movies on my Apple TV? And why does iTunes match not work on my Apple TV?

I have an Apple TV (early 2012) and bought some movies in the iTunes store. Now, Apple TV doesn't let me watch my purchased content. I very well can listen to music I have bought in the iTunes store and watch the purchased movies on my iphone 6 (running the latest iOS 8) and on my MacBook Air (running the latest version of Yosemite). I can also rent movies on Apple TV and watch them - no problem at all.
The other problem I have is that I activated iTunes Match on my Apple TV. But it doesn't work either. On my Mac and on my iphone - there's no problem. On Apple TV instead there is always appearing the message, that it will take a couple of minutes to setup iTunes Match  on Apple TV. Well... that is too nice to be true! It takes hours and even after that it doesn't work at all.
I checked the forums and tried different things:
    1. Updating my Apple TV's software to the latest release
    2. Restoring all settings of my Apple TV and taking it offline (meaning: logging out of iTunes on Apple TV and taking it off power)
    3. Restarting my modem and router after half a minute break and taking it off power.
    4. Setting up Apple TV again and reconnecting it with iTunes and my WLAN-router.
    5. I also wanted to Airplay the screen of my MAC or iphone to Apple TV -> doesn't work (even though I can watch the movies on this two devices without any problems). Other content can be airplayed to Apple TV without any problems as well.
    -> Nothing seems to work!
When I tried to play the moves the following to messages appear:
    1. iTunes is currently unavailable. Try again later. (But Apple TV recognizes how much of the movie has been watched already. It indicates that it is connecting and authorizing... and after that the message above appears). OR
    2. Apple TV says that the movie will be ready to be watched in two hours from now... or that you have to chose a lower resolution, if you want to watch it any sooner.
Does anyone face the same difficulties? And of course: Does anyone know any cure and salvation for my Apple TV? ;-)
Thanks so much for your assistance!

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!

  • Updated to iTunes 7 and can no longer play music off my iPod through iTunes

The title says it all. I can no longer play music from my iPod through iTunes now that I have upgraded. When I click on my iPod there is a little black lock beside where it shows the disk usage.
anyone have any ideas. I like some of the new features of this version of iTunes but it really seems to be a few steps backwards.

That little lock usually indicates that the iPod is set to autosync. In order to play iPod content through iTunes, you have to be on manual sync.

  • ITunes no longer plays downloading movies!?!?

Okay so on the last two movie files I've downloaded from the iTunes store, I've had to wait for them to completely download before they will play at all. It used to be that I could play the movie as far as it was already downloaded. Now, when I click play it goes to a black screen (as if the file started to play but nothing is happening - the play button turns to pause, again as if the file is playing, but the time index does not progress). I can manually seek and see individual frames of the movie (as if paused) but I still cannot get them to play from any time index position (even though I can see the frame).
Perhaps this is simply something that no longer works in the latest version of iTunes but if so then that's quite dissappointing.
I recently upgraded to Lion and I suspect this may be a factor (I don't remember if iTunes was updated at the same time or not). To be honest, so far I'm not at all impressed with Lion - it's quite a bit slower and glitchier than what I've come to expect from Apple (but hopefully there will be patches soon).
    Currently my versions are:
    Mac OSX: 10.7
    iTunes: 10.4
(Just ran software update and it says everything is up to date)
Anyway, if anyone has encountered this or has a possible solution, please post.
    Thanks!

The iTunes Store Movies FAQ still says:
Can you begin playback while the movie is downloading?
Yes. How quickly playback begins depends on the on the speed of your Internet connection.

Mac OS X 10.71 was released this afternoon. Run software update again.  Maybe it will help.

Okay. let's first try uninstalling and reinstalling your QuickTime. We'll also take a few other explicit precautions, just in case. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
    Preliminaries
Download and save a copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file from the Apple Website. (Don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet. get the installer that doesn't mention iTunes.)
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
    *Uninstall phase*
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel and uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
In Computer, open your C drive.
Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back into your C drive (or whichever drive your operating system is installed on).
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Right-click on the "QuickTimeVR" file (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
    Empty your recycle bin.
    *Reinstall phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.
Does the QuickTime reinstall seem to go through smoothly? If so, try launching iTunes again and trying to play one of the affected videos. Do you still get the same iTunes error, or are the files playing properly now?
