Itunes 10.5.2 will not launch a second time.

If I reboot win7 or win xp, itunes runs once with no problems, but if closed it will not launch again. What is the problem?

I am having a similar problem that started today (after updating from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2). As another commenter said, what is happening is that the iTunes.exe task is left running even though you may have elected to exit/close out of the application.
In the testing I've done, I have found that this is only happening after I have connected my iPod Touch (running iOS 5.0.1) and then disconnected it.
If I start iTunes, do not connect my iPod, and exit, it restarts just fine. Is that what the others here are seeing, too?
For what it's worth, if I go into Task Manager and kill the iTunes.exe process, I can restart iTunes and the user window will show up again. I haven't had a need to restart to get iTunes to appear again.

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes, now it will not launch.  I get a Windows Error 127 message.  Any suggestions?

Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (Although the procedure is for Vista and 7 and you've got XP, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • ITunes 8.0.2 will not launch in Vista SP1

I have a new laptop with a clean Vista SP1 install. Tried installing iTunes 8.0.2, but after I double-click on the iTunes icon to launch it, it won't start. itunes.exe is in the task manager running, but the program will not run. The first time it shows me the user agreement, I click accept, but after that, nothing.
I did a search and found the kb article suggesting I delete the configuration files. When I went to the folder, there were no configuration files to delete. I tried a different ID, run as Administrator, and nothing. Quicktime installs and launches fine. I did a malware/virus check to be on the safe side, and that came back clean. Any suggestions?

Thanks, that was helpful. When I restarted just Quicktime, it launched, but I did not get anything on the screen, just the blank player. That led me to believe it was an internet connection problem. And when I said "clean install", I misstated that . It was clean until I installed some of my stuff, like my work VPN and ZoneAlarm. Turning off ZoneAlarm did the trick. I also re-ran the installation exes as administrator, not sure if that helped or not. I am importing my music library now....

  • ITunes 7.0.1 will not launch

iTunes 7.01.1 no longer launches. When I click it, it toggles back and forth once in the dock and then stops moving. I'm now running OX 10.4.8. The problem did begin while I was running 10.3.9. I then upgraded but failed to solve the problem.
Any suggestions on how to return iTunes to functionality?

Ok I tried launching QT and it tells me "QT needs to be installed on your computer before you can use it. Please install QT" - it might not be the exact words (when I get bk to my compu @ home I can tell u the exact words if needed). The weird thing is that when u dwld itunes 7, it COMES with QT, it's supposed to be installed also. Nonetheless, I went bk 2 the site and dwlded JUST QT (latest version), but when I try to open it it gives me the msg above!! I do have an older version (I think it's 6.5.2 or something like that), & when I try to launch it it tells me "There's a newer version installed on the compu, this version cannot be opened". Urgh. I'm confused. Should I try to uninstall everything & start all over again? One thing's for sure, this xmas I'm treating myself to a mac, but in the meantime, I would really like to be able to use my nano!!! Thanx 4 any help/suggestions, it's greatly appreciated!!!

  • Itunes 7.1.1 will not launch

The app window never appears, but the little 'hash' mark under the app on the dock is there to indicate it's open, and the activity monitor does not list the process (except for the helper which is always running to my knowledge). When i force quit, the app still appears to be running when switching apps or checking the dock. No error message appears when launching off the dock or when force quitting the application, but if I launch by doubleclicking in the apps folder, it gives me an error in the finder "The operation could not be completed. An unexepcted error occured (error code -600)". I've tried trashing the app and re-installing but still no dice. Odder still, this started happening after I had been using itunes all weekend without running any software updates.
Anyone else having this nightmare sort of issue? I was using this computer to rip all my CD's and now itunes is holding my music library hostage! The library's intact, fortunately, but getting itunes to work again is a little bit beynd my level of troubleshooting.
    HELP!

OK - i found someone else having the same problem on the forum. They said that their ipod shuffle was plugged into their computer but when they unplugged it the app launched just fine. Well sure enough the same was true for me - I can't believe i went through all that hassle and worry and it was simply one USB plug mucking up the works!

I have Apple TV.  Today I rented a movie to watch on it.  It took my money from my itunes account.  It keeps saying that a problem occurred while downloading.  It also says to try again later.    I have turned off and I have unplugged but nothing works.  What do I need to do?

Something like this happened to me, where something went wrong on Apple's end and a movie I rented wouldn't play. I contacted Apple over the phone and they gave me back my money and fixed the problem for future use.

  • Apple programs, Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari, Quicktime will not launch.

Recently we downloaded some upgrades from Apple and now Help, Mail, iTunes, Safari and Quicktime will not launch. The icon dances on the dock, and the operating system records the program as having opened, but the program does not come up and the icon menu on the dock still displays open rather than quit. I have tried re-installing the programs to no avail.

itunes will not open on my computer the icon on my desktop has changed to a white folder and it is still listed in start programmes but will not launch i am concerned about losing all my downloads

You music etc should not be affected by problems with the iTunes program, nevertheless it is always a good idea to backup your data.
You haven't said if there was any error message when you tried to start iTunes. If  there was one please give it in full.
Also check to see if QuickTime works, iTunes can not work without it. If QuickTime doesn't work, it has to be fixed before worrying about iTunes.
Then restart your PC and open your Task manger and select the Processes tab.
Try to start iTunes, does iTunes.exe appear on the processes tab? If so does it disappear again or remain although the programs does not open?

  • If iTunes 9 will not launch - read this

    Hi there,
If iTunes 9.0.2 update has completely messed up your itunes - will not launch or what not, make sure you have the specs that are required to run it.
Trust me, today, I finally sorted through my problems with the update.
First off I was running OS X 10.5.8, safari 4.0.4.
You need at least a 4.0.3 to run iTunes store in 9.0.2 and to run a safari 4.0.3 you need (i think) at least an OS X 10.5.7. And there's a need to have at least a Quicktime 7.6 installed (the quicktime was my major problem).
So if you have at least these three things iTunes 9.0.2 should run:
    Mac OS X 10.5.7
    Safari 4.0.3
    Quicktime 7.6
If you're still having problems... I don't know what to tell you except call customer service or continue posting and hope.
    Best of luck!!

This is the exact same problem i am experiencing, wired pc, into router that also provides the wireless connection for my iphone. I get no device popping up in itunes when trying to add a library in remote.
I have added the port forwards to my router with no joy, disabled any and all software firewall/av, no joy.
Its quite frustrating as i can get to my laptop's library just fine (laptop is wireless), i've even tried at work and can get over wireless via an access point onto the network and my pc there is wired in.
I can only guess it is my router doing something stupid, or because it is running as a gateway and router, or something.
Any other info would be great

  • Itunes will not launch on Windows Vista no error code

Itunes will not launch on my computer. I have windows vista. I have uninstalled and downloaded itunes repeatedly. I have also tried all of the troubleshooting tips available on the apple support site. But none of them worked. Quicktimes works fine. It is just itunes. I even opened up task manager to check the processes and itunes appears for about a second in the processes tab then just disappears. I have no idea what to do i have an iphone 3gs and havent updated it for a few months now and cannot sync my iphone without itunes. I Have kaspersky internet protection but i doubt thats the problem because itunes was working fine until i updated it.PLEASE HELPPPPPP!

Presumably the configuration fails to complete, so every time you start iTunes it has another go.
As iTunes works normally when you plug in your iPod, you should be able to work round this by creating a new iTunes short cut.
Go to Program Files\iTunes and right click on iTunes.exe. Select: Send to>>Desktop(create shortcut). If you are lucky you will be able to open iTunes using this short cut.
However this work around does not fix the underlying problem that WIndows fails to complete configuring iTunes.

My Itunes will not launch after downloading and I have tried all the troubleshooting for itunes for Windows 7 64-bit. Do I need to system reboot my computer than try to download it again?

I'm having a very similar issue, paired with iTunes not being able to get online.
iTunes shows up in processes and then hangs at 17,000 K or so -- sometimes it will start up, but that (if it occurs) is a delay of literal hours.
Pretty meticulously went through all the 'cannot connect' trouble shooting, and have uninstalled, restarted, and then reinstalled every piece of apple software; issue is just as firm. Starting in safe mode or admin mode don't fix it; signing in as a different user doesn't fix it.

  • Itunes will not launch, no error message (windows xp, itunes 10.7.0.21)

Itunes will not launch, no error message (windows xp, itunes 10.7.0.21)
    Yeah

OK, so i cannot enter into iTunes safe mode, whilst monitoring proccesses in the task manager I noticed that itunes will only stay open if i keep my fingers on shift and control-i dont know if that is worth mentioning- the proccess promptly ends after the release of the said keys, (I tried both the shift control keys on either side of the keyboard-same result) so i am stuck there.
    P.S.
This version of iTunes had previously worked before, I uninstalled everything apple related after noticing how many processes (-id est-) /applications, were using up my memory.
afterwards I had need for iTunes, (i needed to wipe my iDevice) I reinstalled and this problem has arisen.

  • ITunes 6.1 will not launch

After upgrading from iTunes 4 to 6, iTunes will not launch at all. Neither will the new version of Quicktime 7 that I installed at the same time. After clicking on the iTunes icon in the dock, the icon bounces once, but the application will not launch or respond to any command but Force Quit. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening? I'm also on OS10.3.9

SOLUTION FOUND for iTunes not opening after upgrade to 6.0.1!
This took a lot of time and effort and the expertise of 2 long-time, devoted Mac users! Apple could not even come up with this. As I said in earlier posts, I believed it to be a code issue in the upgrade program, and so it seems. The upgrade doesn't delete the old iTunes version's "preferences" as it should, thus creating a conflict.
    Here goes the solution:
-Close out of all applications running
-In your Finder go to the 'Go' menu and slide down to 'Home" and open it
-Double click on the 'Library' folder to open it
-Double click on the 'Preferences' folder to open it
-Change 'View' for all this folder's contents to 'list' format to make the next step easy:
-Drag "com.apple.iTunes.plist" AND "com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist" to the trash
-Close all windows and try starting iTunes from the dock. If you have no iTunes icon in the dock, open your applications folder off your hard drive, find the iTunes application. Click once on the iTunes icon and drag a copy of it to the dock. Once it's in the dock, click on it. It should open as a new version of iTunes (set-up) allowing you to transfer/organize your music, and so-forth.
    Cheers!!
    Paul
Thanks to good friend and fellow MacFanatic Richard "Dick" Muise of Springfield, MA, USA, for his insight and assistance in coming up with this solution!
