ITunes 10.5 Beach Balls with iPhone 4 until unplugged
I just upgraded to iTunes 10.5 through Software Update. When I plug in my iPhone 4, iTunes beach balls until literally the instant the phone gets unplugged - then it's instantly responsive.
I do for a split second then see the top status bar update to "Updating Files on iPhone" with a small bit filled up. This happens no matter how long I leave it beach balling.
Is anyone else seeing this?
I did end up with a solution that was a bit complicated, but worked.
I used an application called AppZapper to completely delete iTunes off my computer. I then reinstalled with the DMG downloaded directly from apple.com.
It did force me to restore my phone from a previous backup, so I lost about two weeks of data.
Then I was able to download and install iOS 5.

Spinning beach ball with Leopard 10.5 - mach_msg_trap - Hangs
Hi,
since I upgraded to Leopard, my Macbook Pro hangs sometimes. I recorded today such a hang (10-20 minutes, spinning beach ball) with "Spin Control".
It seam to me, that some resources are locked by the OS. Is anybody able to describe what happens?
Thanks a lot in advance
Henri

ITunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion
iTunes doesn't sync iCal with iPhone after upgraded to Mountain Lion. I even tried to use Replace Information On This iPhone and it doesn't work. Any idea guys?
I'm having the same problem. It's as if my iPhone and MacBook Pro now have two separate calendars.
Basically, I have a MacBook Pro (Mountain Lion, 13", late 2011) that I sync via USB with an iPhone 4S (iOS 5.1.1). Before upgrading to Mountain Lion, all of my iCal events would sync flawlessly. But none of the events I've created in iCal (Calendars) since upgrading have synced to the iPhone. Likewise, no new events that I create on the iPhone Calendar will sync to iCal. Also, changes to an existing event (even one created before upgrading to Mountain Lion) don't get synced either.
Everything else seems to be syncing just fine though (music, apps, contacts, etc). -

Hello pjdsmith,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
Here is a good article for troubleshooting email issues. Because there are a number of things that might be causing it, this article is good because it covers a number of possibilities.
OS X Mail: Troubleshooting sending and receiving email messages - Apple Support
Regards,
Jeff D. -
I like many have been experiencing mail problems since I migrated to iCloud. Was working fine for a bit, then I now either get crashes or a revolving beachball when I attempt to type an email address. Have tried quitting and rebooting...you name it. What is Apple saying or doing to fix the problem. Been like this all weekend.
iCloud mail is down again...mine allows mail to open, then when trying to address an email I get a beach ball and it stays until I quit mail.
That doesn't necessarily mean the mail is down in iCloud.
You can always check iCloud system status here.
If you are using Safari to access iCloud.com, go to the Safari menu bar click Safari / Empty Cache.
Now go the menu bar again and click Safari / Reset Safari.
Select the top 5 boxes then click Reset.
Quit then relaunch Safari, go to iCloud.com
Try Mail. -
ITunes 10.0.1 - beach balls with every move
My iTunes 10.0.1 (22) has become so slow with almost every move I make (selecting a song, play/stop, updating info, etc) which results in about a 5-10 second beach ball. I noticed my standard Real Mem usage is running between 600MB-900MB with CPU spiking over 90% with every move. I've reinstalled OSX (10.6.4), iTunes, rebuilt my Library via Consolidation but same. Now my standard Library is large (~170,000 songs stored all on a firewire 2TB drive - which I know is not the norm. But as an experiment I set up a new user built a new library local, added about 5,000 songs and similar results. Also to playback any video via iTunes is almost unusable as it stops and stutters all the way.
Any thoughts? Also is there anyone with a similar size library that can share what their normal memory usage is? This has become so painful to use but with the time invested in building this library with all the details it is out of the questions on changing to something else.
ThanksHI Bob...
But as an experiment I set up a new user built a new library local, added about 5,000 songs and similar results.
Since you are experiencing problems in more then one user account, follow the instructions here under: Try Disk Utility Check the startup disk for errors just in case.
Check for free disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

I see "radioshift*...
According to the site, the software is 10.5 compatible but no mention of Snow Leopard v10.6. http://radioshift.en.softonic.com/mac
Looks like: BetterTouchTool could also be a factor. http://blog.boastr.net/

ITunes spinning beach ball with update
I haven't seen this anywhere else on the net yet:
I'm having a problem with CPU hog when updating podcasts. iTunes has no problem when I just run the program (offline or if I don't have it automatically update podcasts). But once I set it to update or hit refresh I'm sunk.
Before the update (which I could of sworn I updated once before, but it just asked me to update again & it popped up in software update...) I never had a problem. Now iTunes spinning beach balls me every time.
All other apps act normally & no system slow down. Just iTunes.
HOWEVER, when looking in the Activity Monitor it actually says that iTunes is using 102% of my CPU! How can that be???
I've repaired permissions, trashed preferences, and reinstalled the program. No change.
Any ideas? Thanks!!
Message was edited by: Stephanie Lucchesi - added pictureDid some more testing & it appears that it only happens when I update video podcasts. Audio podcasts update without stalling iTunes.

So, after a period of playing internet radio (various stations), the station stops and I find then that iTunes has frozen with the beach ball spinning.
I'm hoping that someone in the community can provide some advice.
Here's the start of the latest force quit report I've sent to apple:
Date/Time: 2012-10-13 10:49:57 +1100
OS Version: 10.8.2 (Build 12C54)

I would recommend posting on the MBP thread http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1149&start=0 This is more of a system rescue problem than an itunes issue.
Good luck, Matt. -
Constant spinning beach ball with New Macbook no upgrades
I recently purchase a new macbook worked fine first week then it started. Just upon opening Safari I get a "beach ball" I scroll down "beach ball" Open a new page "Beach ball" everything I do in all programs including Itunes garage band the finder Its frustrating. I Reinstalled the OS still the same problem slow crap performance I've owned over 4 macs now and have NEVER been so frustrated any answers would be great
welcome, I have the same, two macbooks sitting here (I am a mac veteran with 20 years experience and 20+ macs bought and used for myself).
But my new white MacBook is a horror. I changed RAMs, installed 10.4 and 10.5 now half a dozen times fresh from scratch and only Apples updates and the machines dances the spinning beachball dance of death and frustration. I will not replicate all the nonworking behaviour what others have described. Just one thing: Each and every problem people have here, my MacBook has also. There is a fault in this series of MacBooks from the hardware side and from Apple! period!
(Beside this Mac I have a 3 month older more expensive black MacBook sitting on my desk and this is working like a charm, no beachball at all!!!) -
Spinning beach ball with every click
I've got a 3.5 year old Mac Mini 2.3 GHz Core i5 with 4 GB of RAM running OS X 10.9.2. A couple months ago, at no specific moment in time, my mini started to slow down, it's continued to get slower and slower to the point now where every time I click on anything, I get a spinning beach ball for as many as 10 - 20 seconds before the Mac processes what I've done. I have run permission repairs and also bought and installed CleanMyMac2, while it "cleaned" 50+ GB of junk, my Mac's behavior has not changed. Anyone got any other ideas?
Thanks, Drew. Here are the results from Etresoft:

ITunes locking up (beach ball) ever since activating Match
So, I activates Match yesterday. (I should know better... should have waited at least 3 months so Apple could get the bugs out... they used to be great at releasing solid software, but those day sare gone)...
Anyhow, at first all seemed well. iTunes started uploading and matching, and got to step 3. After several hours (large library of music) it was about 75% of the way through step three. I went to bed.
This morning, iTunes was locked up. I had to force quit it, and then it refused to open my music library (claiming the library was locked). Fine, I fixed that by copying the library file, and iTunes started up again... but, within about 10 seconds, it locked again (beach ball). This is where I am now. Any attempt to start iTunes results in a lock up after about 5-10 seconds.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this (short, that is, of restoring from yesterdays backup and demanding a refund for a POC that doesn't work)?Sorry, Should have posted in 'for mac' section...

ARD 3.6.1 will always beach ball until I force quit if I have a smart group or list created. It will launch fine if there hasn't been any type of List, Group, Scanner, or Smart List set. If I create one, it works fine until I relaunch the app. With no lists, I can relaunch fine. With a list, next relaunch beach balls. I can remedy the issue by trashing the user pref for ARD. But once I recreate a list...beach ball on relaunch.

0x7fff94210fff com.apple.It is common for ARD prefs to get corrupted. I have to convert mine to XML and edit them in BBedit regularly (I don't want to just trash them or I lose all my saved machines.) It's widely accepted that ARD has been basically abandoned by Apple (updated to keep running, but no bug fixes or new features) so we're going to have to live with this. Keep backups of your prefs!

I just activated Lion and I get the beach ball with every action?
I am using a Mac Pro and have been using Snow Leopard, installed on one Hard Drive, with no problems. I have downloaded and installed Lion on another drive and when I activate it every time I click on anything with the pointer I get the BEACH BALL for about 4 minutes. There must be a solution, but I can't find it.
Help!
BobHave a look into the Preferences folder (YourUserFolder/Libraries/Preferences/) and trash all Logic preferences.
You'll have to setup the program again.
cheers

Spinning beach Ball with almost every click - please advise.
Folks, i have the last core 2 duo 2 GHz mac mini (2009) before they went unibody. It seems like every time I click anything the spinning beach ball comes up - like the computer is slow or always has to think about what it's doing.
I never had this problem with my 2008 model which was much slower (a single core). This machine just seems so slow and not snappy. Any ideas? I don't have the disk set to go to sleep by the way. And this happens system-wide, no matter what application or the finder. the drive is 7200 rpm by the way, 320 GB.
Snow Leopard- 4GB RamWhen I see the symptoms you've described, I'd first recommend running the Apple hardware test, just to ensure there's not an obvious hardware issue. Not likely on your machine, but you may want to consider that.
Free disk space is another consideration, already asked about above by daddy.
Boot from your OS X installation disk that came with your system, bring up Disk Utility and do a disk repair. If there are no issues identified, repair permissions, while you're there (you can repair permissions from Disk Utility on your applications/library too. You have to boot to your OS X disk to repair your hard drive).
If you don't run a disk maintenance program, you might consider OnyX. Download and run the tasks on the maintenance and cleaning tabs. A number of people have found that this makes a difference on performance. It's located at http://www.titanium.free.fr/download.php?sid=86da62a438d18b7b72aad4c9f630b9e0 . Good computing practice says that before using any disk maintenance software, you should have your hard drive backed up. -
Itunes will not sync playlist with iphone
I have playlists currently synced with my iphone. I check another playlist to add and it and itunes goes through the syncing motions but does not add the playlist to the iphone. There is over 4gb of space and the mp3's are available on my pc. If I remove a playlist from the iphone it does get removed but it will not sync back. There are no errors displayed. Itunes 8.2.0.23 and Iphone os is 3.0.
I realize that but it does not Sync back when it has only Podcasts and if it has other then only the songs and not Podcasts sync back to desk. Songs work exactly as you describe.
My point is that at least I can go on a long hike without having to start each group of Podcasts Subscriptions after it finishes the episodes in the previous one. That can be a real pain, especially on long hikes with short Podcasts. It takes a very short time to set up the on the go. I DO NOT LIKE THIS but it seems the only answer for now.
I could restore the old version from my image backup then lose the neat new feature of arranging screens on the PC instead of the POD.
