ITunes 10.5, Creating iPod version of podcast makes iTunes not responsive

MacBook Pro (2.5 GHz Intel Core Duo with 4 GB RAM) running 10.6.8.  iTunes version 10.5.  After downloading a 71MB .mp4 podcast through subscription, when I attempt to make an iPod version of the podcast (Advanced > Create iPod or iPhone Version)  iTunes consistently hangs with the spinning beachball.  Activity Monitor shows that iTunes has become not responsive, and force quitting is the only solution.  In the /Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Podcasts folder is a zero KB .m4v file.  Curiously, everything works properly on a 10 year old iMac running 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1.

I have a similar setup and after some initial problems, I can tell you that syncing now works for me.
1st-gen iPod touch iOS 3.1.3
iTunes 10.5
Mac OS X 10.6.8
When I first upgraded to iTunes 10.5 and connected my iPod, iTunes didn't even recognize it in the sidebar and it didn't show that I had any backups for any devices. The iPod was recognized by iPhoto, so I knew it wasn't a problem with the cable or something like that.
So I took the advice in the other thread and downloaded the full iTunes installer. I deleted four com.apple.iTunes[xxx].plist files from ~/Library/Preferences/, ran the installer, repaired permissions, and rebooted. To my amazement, when I launched iTunes and plugged in my iPod, it and its previous backups were recognized, and a fresh backup and sync ran without any problems.

  • In the new iTunes you no longer have the 'create iPod version' or 'create Apple TV version,' for converting movies. Will this feature return..?

After installing the new itunes, I inserted some video files, and wanted to create a version for my iPod classic. Before, I could just click on the video and then select 'create iPod version' from the menu. It would then convert the file. However, this feature no longer exist. Is there another way I can easily convert my files?

    David,
    You've probably sorted kahlia_1's problem too! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4613451?tstart=0

  • Where can I find the files when I "Created iPod version"?

I tried getting some of my video podcasts onto my iPod by using the "Create iPod version" but only audio plays. Where can I find these files so I can delete them and get them off my iPod?

Select the movie in the iTunes Window (you should see it in Library > Movies) and ctrl-click or right-click it. Then select "Show in Finder" and you will see the File.
Usually it should be located at
    Users > your home >Music >iTunes >iTunes Music > Movies >your movie name(iPhone & iPod).m4v
if your library is managed by iTunes and located at the default place.
But don't delete the movie in the Finder, delete from iTunes, otherwise you will be left with an inconsistent library.

I am trying to update an ipod version 2.2 with itunes but I keep getting an error (-1).  Is this an hardware issue according to Apple and if so is there any way to fix this.?

    Error 1 or -1
This may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues, and restore your device on a different known-good computer. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
If you disabled yuor computer's security software then that indicates a hardware problem,
I would say it is not workth fixint your old. likely a 1G. iPOd.

  • I did "create iPod version" of movie but it still can't be sync'd to phone

I have an MPEG-4 video file (158 kbps, codec H.264, 759x360). It was a chapter ripped from an instructional DVD made by a friend (using Handbrake) which I want to have on my hard drive. The other 2 chapters work fine. This file, it says it can't sync to either my iPhone or my iPad because it's a format neither can play. Even after I do "create iPod version" of it and it converts, same problem!! Any idea what could be wrong (and why "an iPod version" can't be played on my iPod?!?) and what I do about it to get it to copy over?
    thanks in advance!
    Mike

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. You problem happens some timnes and is not related to iOS 6.1.5.

  • Upgraded to 11.1.4.62.  Now iTunes is saying "An iPod has been detected, but could not be identified properly.  Disconnect then reconnect ..."  I removed iTunes and reinstalled.  I stopped and started the service.  I reset the iPod.  When I put it in disk

I upgraded to 11.1.14.62 this morning.  Not iTunes is saying "An iPod had been detected but could not be identified properly".  I unlugged/replugged in.  I reset the iPod, I removed iTunes and reinstalled.  I'ver tried three different cables.
When I put the iPod in disk mode it shows up briefly as a disk then goes away.
    Any ideas?

Hi there  - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
    1) iTunes
    2) Apple Software Update
    3) Apple Mobile Device Support
    4) Bonjour
    5) Apple Application Support
    Then you restart your computer.
Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
Then you restart your computer again.
Mine is working perfectly again now.
I hope it works for you,
    Carmen.

How do I transfer songs from my daughters itunes library onto my ipod?  We both have itunes libraries on a single computer running Windows Vista

Your question has probaby been answered already because it was posted a month ago but anyways what you do is you plug your phone into your computer. Next you want to open iTunes and click on File. Then you go down to "Transfer Purchases from *your name* iPhone". Then just wait for it to sync and you should be good.

  • Itunes has detected a ipod in recovery mode: use itunes to restore

my sisters ipod nano gives this message time and time again. After I restore it, it just gives that message again. It never ends. any ideas??

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if restoring doesn't work, it may be of some help: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore"

When I updated my iTunes software, I connected my Ipod to my laptop to charge. By default, it opened iTunes. Immediately upon doing so, my nano flashed and displayed the message "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore". I followed the instructions to reset, but to no avail, the message never disappears. However, if this helps at all, when attempting to reset the nano, the nano turns off, the apple logo displays, then returns to the same message. I do not want to "restore" my nano unless absolutely necessary since I'll lose everything I have stored on it. I'm open for suggestions. Thanks for reading.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Creating iPod Version of Videos

I sometimes use iTunes to watch videos. For this purpose I have converted existing rips to the correct format using Handbrake. These work fine and I can play them in iTunes without a problem - Great!
I also want to sync these same video with my iPod (an 80Gb classic) but in order to do so it seems that I ahve to convert the video again to a lower res. My questions are:
1.) Do I really have to convert all my videos twice to use them in iTunes and on my iPod?
2.) What happens to the original (higher res) video if I do the 'Create version for iPod / iPhone' function?
If I do always have to create a lower res version for my iPod and that means sacrificing the high res version in iTunes, then that kinda ***
    Cheers,
    Si

Does the video play okay in iTunes?  Was this a video you imported from outside of iTunes?

  • Itunes VERY SLOW creating iphone version of a video

I used HANDBRAKE to convert a 43 minute video from .avi to mp4, supposedly optimized for ipod/iphone. When I tried to sync the video I could not. I also tried to just drag the video from the itunes video list to the phone, this did not work either.
Next i chose the advanced options in iTunes and clicked on "create ipod or iphone version".
This is taking an extraordinary amount of time. The first attempt went on for about 2 hours and only got through about 2/3 of video. I cancelled the conversion, restarted the computer, and started again. The computer has been working on this task alone for about 30-40 minutes and seems to have converted only about 15-20% of a 43 minute video, from MP4 to iphone mp4.
IS THIS NORMAL ????? SHOULD THIS PROCESS BE MUCH FASTER ?
IS THERE A BETTER WAY ???? WHY DID HANDBRAKE NOT WORK (when it says it is creating an ipod version)?
Thanks for any help and advice !

Install Perian from here http://perian.org/ it will help quicktime play avi files then you can export from quicktime to iphone m4v format. Then just drag file to itunes icon in the dock. Make sure you do nothing else on the computer at the same time. Video encoding is very cpu intensive, and should always be done with nothing else running at the time for best performance.

  • Create mp3 version grayed out in iTunes

    Mac OSX 10.7.4
    Itunes version 10.7
The "Create MP3 Version" button is grayed out and I can't select it.  I can't convert my AAC audio files as I could before.  I could do it before the most recent update.

Nevermind.  You can't create an MP3 version at the same time you are importing a cd.  Duh!

  • 1G iPod Nano and podcast on iTunes

I have a 1G iPod Nano and I downloaded some podcast onto iTunes, but I can not transfer them onto my Nano. I tried to click and drag them over, but nothing happens when I do that. Please Help!!!

I am more than frusterated with trying to get a podcast to my nano. I downloaded some Joe Cartoon ones and verified they are in the corrected format but I still cannot get them into my Ipod regardless of manual or automatic updates for the podcasts. I have no issues with having the music update on its own but this podcast issue is pushing me over the edge, I have about 10 hours into it and definately need some guidance, any additional help is greatly appreciated.
