Itunes 10.5 does not recognize cd device except from "my computer"

I just installed itunes 10.5. When I put a cd into my pc with itunes open and running, nothing happens. If I fully close itunes, go to start>my computer>open cd then itunes opens, gracenote searches for the details of the cd, and the cd device is listed. It is only at this time that itunes recognizes my cd device. After the cd uploads, itunes allows me to eject the cd. All this shows my optical drive is just fine. So help, how do I get itunes to do what it is supposed to do automatically what I am doing manually?

I had the same issue with itunes 10.5, it would not see the CD drive at all and I couldn't import or even play any music on disc. Other players on my Win 7 machine saw the drive just fine, I finally remedied the itunes situation by simply changing the drive letter of my drive from B to F, after that itunes saw the drive like it should. The music sync is one way - computer to ipod. The exception is itunes purchases. Without syncing: File>Transfer Purchases.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.

I do not care about having to erase everything since it's new and there's nothing on it, but it was never synced with iTunes.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I don't know if it is charging or what because the screen won't turn on and the computer does not recognize the device. I just had a similar problem and tried all of the reboot techniques with no success. I knew it had to be a connection issue inside the iPod, and grasping at straws, I sprayed a little WD-40. I dried it off and let it sit overnight. Today at lunch I plugged it in to my wall charger and it began charging.
***FYI I know they don't recommend spraying WD-40 on your iPod, but it was a last resort for me. I was at the point of paying to send it in for repairs or throwing it away. I wouldn't try this unless you are ready to throw yours away too.

Nope. iPads can only be synced with one iTunes library, and all content on the iPad would be erased if you tried to sync it with a different one.
