Itunes 10.5 freezes during download!?

Hi So I just got the new ipod touch which requires the newest version of itunes. But whenever I try to download the bar freezes when it says "installing...", about 80%. My whole computer ends up freezing and I have to restart it. I've tried uninstalling it but it also freezes when it says it is trying to collect memory. I am so stuck and have no clue what I should do! Please help!
Thanks

If you can't download it from here, then there is a server issue---

  • Itunes software update freezing during download

If I delete itunes and reinstall, will I lose all my songs? Trying to set-up my ipad & old itunes version will not work.

You're welcome! But, what a pain!
You might get rid of everything Apple by using the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.
Get rid of ASU, iTunes, QuickTime....then maybe the next install will 'stick' properly.
Or even go through the more thorough steps from this article, listed under "General installation troubleshooting"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1926
The uninstaller is listed in there.
Depends how much time you want to spend on it, and how often you update itunes, I guess.

  • Purchases freeze during download

For some reason, my purchases freeze during download. No matter how many times I restart, quit iTunes, etc., the downloads won't restart. The status bar indicates that the purchases are downloading, and the arrow-circle thing is spinning, but no progress is made.
Weirdly, if I go to another computer that is authorized, and sign into iTunes, check for purchases, the purchases download with no problem.

I've had the same problem about 10 different times over the past two months, mainly while downloading TV shows. I contacted Apple the first three or four times, and always got the same response - check for purchases and it should resume downloading. Clearly, this is NOT a fix for this problem and it would be nice if someone would acknowledge the problem and post a solution.
FYI, the movies do get "unstuck" one to three days later, but clearly this is beyond frustrating, especially when you want to watch the next episode of your favorite show.

my iTunes movie rental freezes during the opening credits always at the same place.  What is the cure?  Can I recieve credit for the rental since I could not view it in its entirerty?

    Hi Epski
Let us know how you go as i'm having the same issue also. I upgraded to yosemite and itunes 12 at the same time and thought the OS upgrade was the issue. I downgraded back to Mavericks again (for lots of reasons i won't go in to here) thinking this would fix the problem but it didn't.
When i play any video content from itunes 12 in full screen goes dark once the controls fade away. QT, appletv or anything else plays them perfectly, as per itunes 11!
You don't have a Samsung TV by any chance do you?

  • Itunes update always fails during download - it gets to the last 3 mb or so and hangs until I cancel it.  Any idea how to fix?

iTunes fails to update.  During download, it gets to last (presunambly) package and hangs at last 3 Mb.  I have left it for days, it won't complete. Any idea how to fix?

This is a common issue.  Temporarily disable the Anti-Virus and Firewall software on the computer.

  • Itunes and ipod freeze during sync

    hello,
firstly, i would like to thank all you kind souls who post to this forum with very helpful suggestions. you have helped me with many past difficulties.
my present issue concerns transferring songs from itunes to my ipod (4th generation). here's the story:
on friday, my ipod started acting funny (skipping songs, etc.). by saturday, it would no longer do anything (folder with !, resetting did not help). this had happened to me before so i did not freak out and figured i just had to restore (that had worked the first time around). however, when i plugged in my ipod to my computer (powerbook g4, just three weeks old), it was not recognised and i was prompted to initialize the disk. i then came to this forum and read pretty much everything related to this kind of problem. countless resets, erases, partitions, etc., later, i was able to get the ipod software back on the ipod. it seemed all normal but there was no music on it (makes sense since i'd restored it). but then...when i plugged in my ipod to sync it with itunes, it would freeze at a given song (not always the same one, sometimes 31 songs into it, sometimes 500). i came back to this forum and read that i should reset my ports, which i did. didn't help, the sync still freezes both the ipod and itunes.
so that's where i'm at: i have the ipod software on the ipod, but i can't sync it with itunes (i.e. i can't get my music onto it). my brother thinks i have bad blocks (or sectors). is this a possibility? the ipod does make some noise (not sure whether it's the infamous clicking...).
    so here are my questions:
    1) is there anything i haven't done yet that could get the ipod to sync with itunes?
assuming i have done everything and the problem is with my ipod's hard disk:
    2) would a program like disk warrior potentially be able to fix the ipod?
    3) would it cost me less to have the ipod serviced than to buy disk warrior?
    4) is there somekind of open-source or freeware disk repair utility that could perhaps repair my ipod's disk?
thanks for reading and i really look forward to any suggestions.
    gen
p.s. the ipod's more than a year old, so no longer under warranty.

Okay, I got it to work tonight...
My U2 iPod would freeze while syncing. I restored and tried to sync and it would freeze on different song #'s. All the while I heard a clicking sound coming from the drive that I never noticed before. It would just click once in a while, not repeatedly.
My fix: (a version of the carpet drop) While the iPod was on and spinning, I held it tight with my right hand, facing me and smacked it's side into the palm of my left hand, simulating the amount of force that it would incurr from a waist-high drop onto carpet.
Now, this force was sheer approximation, being that it would be too time consuming and difficult to calculate this exact amount of force. I mean, my waist may be higher/lower than the original carpet-dropper, and not to mention the plushness of the carpet! Who knows if he did it on Shenandoah Shagg or maybe just some Bermuda Burr Rug?!
By the way, the problem started after being left out in the car on recent cold nights... hmmmm, my iPod thinks me a jerk.
Anyways, here are some previous attempts at fixing my situation (in no particular order):
    1) restored from 5 different iPod updates (2004-11-15, 2005-02-22, 2005-06-26, 2005-09-23, 2005-11-17)
    2) tried to fix with Disk Utility
    3) tried to fix with Tech Tool Pro
    4) tried to fix with Disk Warrior
    5) tried to initialize multiple time (even writing zeroes)
    6) manual sync

  • ITunes Summary Page Freezes During AutoSync

When I connect my 5th generation iPod video and start to auto sync, itunes freezes up at the Summary Page after a few seconds. I have to power down in order to unfreeze. I have two users on my laptop. This problem doesn't occur for the other user. HELP
    Dell   Windows XP   Laptop

This happened to me as well and this is what I did:
My iPod had been recently restored and, by default, taken out of disc mode. So, I couldn't access iTunes through the account that it had been previously set up to. Everytime I plugged it in, iTunes would open and automatically go to the iPod sumary page. It'd then try to update, but freeze and turn white. iTunes was frozen. So I logged onto the other account and put the iPod in disc mode (because iTunes wasn't freezing on the second account) and it worked with the first account again. iTunes was on both accounts. I suggest you try this, though it may not be the answer. Hope this helps.

  • IMac freezes during download of a podcast or import of a CD with iTunes

Downloading a podcast or the import of a CD makes my iMac freeze quite often, at least occasionally. Sometimes iMac freezes just playing a song. I have got MacOS 10.6.8 and the latest iTunes version. I'm afraid there is a corrupted song somewhere. How can I find it?

This problem has been driving me crazy for some time. It happens when any of my podcasts finish downloading while I am watching another video podcast. The video podcast I am currently watching pauses for usually at least 30 seconds but progresses without the playback. I am running iTunes on my Macbook Pro with 2GB ram. I assumed for the longest time it was the 5400 rpm drive but I'm not sure. I hope someone has a helpful hint! TIA, Brian

  • Itunes 9.2 freezes during playback

Recently during playback, video or audio will freeze for a couple of seconds and then continue. This happens more often during movie playback. It usually happens about an hour into a movie, but will also happen during song playback. I usually end up stopping and exiting and then resuming playback.
    Suggestions?

I get the exact same thing. Although it happens with all video related content even after a few seconds. Every 5 seconds or so, the video skips, hiccups, freezes, lags, is choppy... whatever you want to call it. It happens on music videos, purchased videos, and video podcasts. It doesn't seem to matter that this video resides locally on my hard drive and is not streaming across the Internet or a network. Is this a memory cache buffering issue? Is this a video card issue? Does anyone have any thoughts? Another thought: I have a very large iTunes library = over 55,000 songs, videos, podcasts, etc. Perhaps this is affecting playback of videos? My computer is beefed up and max'ed out with all the available RAM, I have a brand new logic board (motherboard + video card) and have a freshly installed Snow Leopard system as of 6 weeks ago. This video playback issue is unacceptable! Thoughts?

  • App  store application freezes during downloads.

  • Ipod stops/freezes during downloading

I have a click wheel black and white screen ipod. I have had no problems until I took it and tried to download the music from my girls imac g5. I went through all the questions, like you will erase your content and download the new songs etc. It started to download and would get to about 130 songs then stop. I have done the 5r's a zilion times with both of our computers with the same results. When it freezes it still makes noises as if its thinking, and I have also heard repetitive clicking on a time frame of 8 seconds or so. It does download, but only the first 130 songs or so. Can anyone help!

    More info:
    I found a program at download.com called TuneTech (http://prosoftengineering.com/products/tunetech_info.php)
Every time i did a scan on my iPod's hard disk, the scan would lock up once it had gotten to block 114,688
My theory is that's the bad part of the hard drive that files plug up at, kinda like a bottleneck on the freeway... except this isn't a slow down, it's a total lane-blocker!!!

  • On iPad in iTunes purchased tv show during download its been processing for days, how do I delete or stop it

In iTunes on my iPad I'm downloading a tv show, it's been processing for days, I can't delete or stop it. Which is blocking anything else from downloading. I've turn shutting off but that doesn't work. It wouldn't let me tap it to stop it,

    •  Log out of your iTunes store account.  Go to Settings > Store > Sign Out Then press the Home button.
    • Then press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously and don't release them when it brings up the Turn Off screen; keep holding them until the Apple logo appears.
    • After restart, the Waiting should be gone.

  • ITunes 10.5 freezes during installation

We had trouble with iTunes locking up after upgrading to 10.3.  I uninstalled 10.3 according to the directions on the Apple website and tried installing 10.5.  During 10.5 installation the install program stops.  The blue bar stops going across about 3/4 of the way.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Steve

    Repair youe Apple Software Update.
Go to START/ALL PROGRAMS/Apple Software Update. If it offers you a newer version of Apple Software Update, do it but Deselect any other software offered at the same time. Once done, try another iTunes install.
If you don't find ASU in All Programs, go to Control Panel, Add & Remove Programs.

  • IMac freezing during downloading

When downloading videos from the internet my iMac frequently freezes, though the cursor still moves.  I cannot force quit, but must shut down the computer. On startup I get a message saying "the name of your computer is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to . . ."  This is happening with different browsers including Safari and Whitehat Aviator.  I'm using 10.6.8.  I've looked this up and fear I may have to do a clean install.  Any advice would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    And/Or...
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
