Itunes 10.5 update will not save or update!

My itunes 10.5 update will not save, and i need itunes 10.5 to update my phone HELP!

Same here - I'm running 64-bit Windows 7 and have had the same problem since just before upgrading to 10.5 (64-bit) and now after too.  Same issue occured a couple months ago (I *think* last when iTunes updated), when I was directed by Apple support to close iTunes, clear all Apple process in Task Manager and try again which fixed everything (also tried suggested fixes of moving old backups, deleting the backup folder, etc).
Seems like syncing\backups are breaking with every iTunes version upgrade (and only 64-bit Windows systems?)
This is very frustrating to be left hanging right when big updates are available.

  • Sidebarlists will not save or update

    A couple of weeks ago I noticed my sidebar kept showing generic icons for two items that had been deleted. I dragged them off and poof they were gone - until the next reboot.
    Finally I deleted finder and sidebar preferences. After getting things back to what I wanted after a reboot the sidebar reverts back to the generic list without my changes. (I have done this enough times it has become quite annoying to redo. Will leave generic until I can learn how to fix)
    I have set a new log in account and copied the sidebarlists.plist to my regular account. When I make changes to the sidebar it still does not update the preference file.
    Any suggestions what else to fix?

    Here's the whole litany for thoroughly checking your home folder. It's not as daunting as it looks.
    1. Go to Users/yourname//Library/Fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
    ( Likely suspects are Times RO, Helvetica Fractions and Times Phonetic, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.) If not, put your Fonts folder back.
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
    • Go toUsers/yourname/Library/Preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
    ** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
    You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
    • Go to Users/yourname/Library.
    • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
    • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
    • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
    • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
    (Note:The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.)
    4.Go to Users/yourname/Library/Caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.

  • ITunes and app store will not let me update my credit card information

    I'm trying to update my credit card information on my Mac, but iTunes won't let me. It continually states "Your credit card information does not match your bank's records itunes" but I am 100% sure I am inputting the information right (I've been doing it for hours now), the card is active, and it works--I just purchased something elsewhere. What is happening? What should I be doing?

  • ITunes and Quick Time will not load after update

    I have updated my ITunes to 7.5 and now I get an error message,sends report to microsoft program had to close... and when I try to open QT I get an Buffer Overrun error. I have tried everything that is suggested at these web pages but no success. I have uninstalled, downloaded, numerous times. My Itunes worked fine before the upgrade, now that I have a new 3rd generation Nano its almost useless. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate the help

    Did you ever get this problem resolved? I've been having the same problem now for over 2 weeks, and it doesn't matter what I do, including a system restore, it still won't launch. If I dock my iPod, it freezes and doesn't sync, I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes twice, and it still won't work.
    I got an error message telling that some detection program was preventing it from opening, but when I tried to adjust the program's settings to turn it off for iTunes, it tells me it's required for iTunes.
    This is so frustrating!

    I have a this problem with my audiobooks, most of which are ripped from my old CDs ad NOT from Audible etc. And yes, I've done info>options>remember position in playback...tried that, a while ago. And tried deleting books from ipod/pad/phone and resyncing, it still loses my place.
    Apart from this not working (itunes has always sucked for audiobook playback--in fact there are NO good apps for playing one's own books, without buying. I've tried them all--the best, simplest easiest was an android app) when I designate--which I have done for a while now to keep my library organized (through info>options)--a book as an 'audiobook' it should be set as the default to a) remember playback position b) skip when shuffling. Now if checking those only worked....Apple developers, are you listening?

    Have you tried a reset?
    Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

    After you insert the CD but before you import it into iTunes, select all tracks and set the disc number to 1, 2, 3 ... as appropriate.

    No matter what I do iTunes will not save my card details. Everytime I go to buy something it says "Your account information has changed" and takes me to the card details page. I update the card details correctly and click done and it takes me back to the store. I then go to buy something and it comes up with "Your account information has changed" and sends me back to the card details page with all the updated details I put in missing. This makes it completely impossible for me to use the iTunes store.

    Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:

    (The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
    Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?

    Well, not sure if having the disk in a firewire case or over a network would have made a difference.
    The solution of making a disk image as in article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2664 was what worked for me.
    After, mounting the disk image the Migration Assistant completed without errors. So far everything seems to be working like it did on 10.4.11.
