ITunes 10.5 will not detect my iPhone 4S

I have a 2011 Macbook Pro 15" with Lion running iTunes 10.5.3, which I believe is the newest version at the moment. I also have a white 16GB iPhone 4S running 5.0.1. Before, I was able to sync my phone without an issue, but now, iTunes will not even detect my iPhone. My phone starts to charge, so I know my iP
hone recognizes the computer and that the cord is working. I have looked at apple's troubleshooting tips but was unsuccessful. Does anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue and have iTunes find my iPhone?

  • ITunes WILL NOT detect my iPhone 4 - Tried everything I can think of!

    Hi everyone
I am in desperate need of some help.
I plugged my iPhone into my PC today and iTunes wouldn't detect it, no matter what I tried. All iTunes would do was freeze for 5 or so minutes and then return the error "iTunes cannot read the contents of this iPhone, please restore etc."
I have come across this error before but have gotten around it by restarting iTunes or unplugging and replugging in the iPhone. This time I couldn't get past the error.
So eventually I became frustrated with the fact and decided to restore my iPhone. BIG mistake as once it had restored it needed reactivation and iTunes still would not detect it no matter what I tried.
So I took it to my brothers PC, had him install iTunes (the same version as me, the latest 64bit version) and it had no problem detecting and reactivating the iPhone.
Then the problem became that I had my iPhone activated but my own iTunes would still not detect it so I've lost all my contacts/apps etc. without the possibility of restoring from the last backup.
So my iPhone, in it's current state is if it was just activated, completely empty otherwise.
Oddly enough, Windows has no issue detecting the iPhone with autorun popping up asking me to import photos etc. every time so this leads me to believe there's an underlying issue with iTunes which is weird as I have not changed my iTunes at all in the past week and had no issues syncing etc. a few days ago.
    THINGS I'VE TRIED:
    - Reinstalling iTunes (numerous times)
    - Using different versions of iTunes
    - The various different fixes found via Google
    - 6 different USB ports
    - 4 different USB cables
    THINGS I FOUND WEIRD:
    - Girlfriends 3GS doesn't get detected in iTunes either but Windows has no issue
    - The fact it detected on another PC
Win7 Pro x64 and my rig is pretty high spec so I can't see there being an issue there.
Let me know if there's anything you need to know.
    All suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I've had this issue before as well. I think it has to do with 64bit Win 7. Most times I would connect my iPhone to it, it would automatically load iTunes, but it would just freeze and do nothing. I've since reinstalled my OS to 32bit and don't seem to have as many problems.
You can try this... seemed to get it connected for me when I had issues. Not sure if this is how you attempted to fix it before, so I'll say it just in case.
Plug iPhone in and let it load iTunes. When it freezes...
Unplug phone, close iTunes. Open windows Services panel, and do the following in this order:
    Stop the "iPod Service"
Stop the "Apple Mobile Device" service
Wait a few seconds, then Start the "Apple Mobile Device" service. Leave the other service stopped.
Plug in the iPhone. Hopefully works after this.

  • Digital movie downloaded in itunes and plays - will not transfer to iphone 4

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  I deleted from itunes and downloaded a second time - it shows in list of movies on iphone 4
but is light grey type and no photo of DVD jacket and will not play.

Did you have your iPhone connected and selected in iTunes?
    In Music tab:
      Is Sync Music selected?
Is Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres selected?
Is the new playlist selected under Playlists?

  • Some iTunes purchased songs will not play on iPhone.

Some of my songs that I have purchased from iTunes will not play on my iPhone but will play on my MacBook Pro and iPad - what can I do to fix this.  This problem has been happening for around a week now.  At first it was 1-2 songs but now in a playlist of around 80 songs approximately 1/4 of the songs will not play.  When the song comes up next in the playlist it will not only skip that song but will also skip past 1-2 other songs.

    Hey brewmaster1967,
Does this happen with any other purchased content? Download some of the free on iTunes store songs.
Deauthorize the computer and play/authorize the song in iTunes again.

Did the update to iOS5 recently and everything works great with the exception of the fact that I ended up with no music on my phone. Now whenever I connect the device it only clocks and never does anything even after 20mins. HELP! Using a MacBook Pro!

    Mac system requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
iTunes 10.1 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account

  • ITunes 10.2.2.12 will not detect my iPhone 3GS in Recovery or DFU mode

It started a couple weeks ago when I tried to upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.3.1 when it would get stuck in the preparing iPhone for upgrade.  My computer sees the phone because I can see it connected via USB.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and family per Apple's instructions under Troubleshooting iPhone.  If I connect the USB to a Virtual Machine under VMWare Workstation 7 it works no problem and this is how I updated to 4.3.1 and again to 4.3.2.  Now it's annoying and I want to try and resolve it.
    iPhone 3GS
    ASUS G73JW
    Win 7 Pro x64
    iTunes 10.2.2.12

I'm really at a loss here.  Just had to update to 4.3.3 using a virtual machine.  I've uninstalled everything apple, rebooted, ran ccleaner, rebooted, ran ccleaner again, rebooted, installed latest itunes x64, rebooted, tried to update and got error 1602 again.  Windows sees  the iphone in restore mode, tinyumbrella sees the iphone in restore mode and will exit restore mode for me.  I also updated to the latest version of vmware workstation 7.  I would really like to avoid formatting and reinstlling win 7.

  • ITunes Store Purchase will not copy to iPhone 4

I'm a first-time community poster, so please be gentle.
I recently purchased 2 songs from iTunes Store. I continue to receive the circle-slash icon when trying to move the songs from my Music Library or the "Purchased" file on my iTunes to my iPhone 4 Music. Thank you for your time and helpful suggestions.

I just wanted to add to this as this post comes up when desperately googling for a solution.
I had the same problem, (some apps were syncing, others weren't) and I found out it was because I had moved and reorganized my Music folder and iTunes couldn't find where the app files were.
This can be checked and fixed by going into the apps menu in iTunes and clicking each app. If there is a problem, a small grey "!" will appear to the left of the name of the app. Right click the app > Get Info > Locate and navigate to the new app folder (in iTunes Media > Mobile Applications), and everything should work fine.
Hope this also helps anyone who can't find a solution that works.

  • Itunes 10.5 will not recognize iphone

Just updated to 10.5 itunes - now it will not recognize my iphone 4.3.5.  Suggestions?

I am having this problem, but on my Macbook Pro running OS X 10.8.2 and iTunes 10.7.  Both my iPhone 5 and my wifes iPhone 5 are not recognized in iTunes.  Both our old iPhone 4S's come up just fine.  Any other work arounds?
I have reinstalled iTunes, restarted both phones, and Mac.  Still not recognizable.
    EDIT:
Just tried the other cable from my iPhone 5 box, and it works fine.  I then tried plugging the faulty cable straight into the wall, and it gets no charge.  Faulty cable.

  • Will not recognize my iphone

I had to reformat my PC and I'm using windows 8.1 and now itunes will not detect my iphone 5.
Do I need to restore, remove, shoot or blow up my PC or the iPhone??

Take a look at this link, http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/itunes/

  • Itunes 9.2 does not see my iphone 3GS

I have now reinstalled itunes 9.2 3 times in order to download the new software verion for my iphon. First it kep saying there were files missing so I reinstalled and reinstalled. Now I can see my library in itunes but it will not see my iphone, nor will it charge the phone. I have used different USB ports and iphone connectors all to no avail. Can anyone help please?

The same thing happened to me and it took me days to figure it out. Check the USB drivers. I noticed after updating/uninstalling/re-installing itunes 9.2, windows would update the latest drivers to my iphone when I connect it for the first time. It did this every time. Windows kept giving it a generic camera driver. Although it recognized it as an Apple iPhone, make sure it finds this driver: usaapl found in the c:\program files\common files\apple\mobile device\drivers folder (Windows Vista 64-bit)
http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538 gives you instructions on how to fix this.
    Good luck!
