ITunes 10.5 will not install on Windows XP

I'm trying to install 10.5 iTunes on my Windows XP computer, but it keeps giving the following message:
" There is a problem with this Windows installer package. A program required for this install to complete could
not be run. Contact your support personnell or package vendor."
I think it says the I should contact Apple to tell them that their installer program is no good.
But what do you think???

Thank you soooo much!
I have been tring to install this for HOURS.  Last night I got the first error messages.  It was a nightmare. I decided to uninstalled everything apple related and see if I could reinstall it all by myself and I got the same error message.
I though it was a windows XP issue or that my Windows Installer was corrupted.  I spent hours reinstalling my windows services and using crazy command prompts and I still got the error messages.
This morning I keep trying other things and when I was about to quit and give up on this I decided to google "problems installing new Itunes 10.5 with windows XP" and bingo I found you!  I can't believe it was something that easy.  I downloaded Quicktime 7.7 and although I got the same error message again I left the window open and I skipped to your second step to repair all the apple files. Then, automatically the quicktime.exe continued its downloading.
After all of this I finished with the next steps and EVERYTHING worked!!!
you're amazing! thank u thank u!!!
STEPS:
Step #1) Go to Apple download and update your Quick time to 7.7 (do not update anything else cuz you can't)
Step #2) Go to control panel, add/remove programs, and click on "apple application support", click change, and repair. Do same to apple mobile devise support, click change and repair, then to apple software update, click change and click repair.
Step #3) Push Ctrl, Alt & Delete to see if your "bonjour" service is running. If not you have to turn it on by going to control panel, Admin tools, then services.
Step #4) Now you can click on "itunessetup.exe" file that you downloaded. If you haven't you need to download.
Step #5) Now it will install without any problems.
Step #6) To sync with your iphone you MUST restart your computer.

  • ITunes 64 bit will not install on Windows 7 (64-Bit)

I downloaded the 64bit version if iTunes (itunes64setup.exe), and when I went to install it, it went through most of the installation procedure and it stated that I should "download the 64 bit version of the iTunes software" (which as I said before, I already did).
I did the "delete the temp folder" bit, and that did not help. I would like to be able to just update my iPhone from anything other than my Netbook. So what should I do. A nice set of "step by step" instructions would help.
I already searched the "Support" section, and I could not find ANYTHING on the 64 bit version of iTunes. So I followed every instruction on "problems with installing iTunes" that related to the 32 bit just to make sure.
So basically, the "64 bit software" is reading like it is the "32 bit software" and I have downloaded the software and re-downloaded it 3 more times. Same problem each time.

Same problem for me. iTunes 64bits instlls well up to 80% of the process.
then it says that some software components are missing.
I was never able of completing my iTunes installation (on my new computer).
earlier versions are no longer available and the iTunes for 32bits isn't accepted by Windows 7 64 bits.
Can anyone at Apple explain what this is ?
Has anyone experienced the same problem ?

  • Itunes Downloads and will not Install on Windows 7

After downloading, I try to run itunes and get the following:This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package. How can I fix this?

  • Itunes cd hardware will not install on Windows xp

When I try to download itunes, I get a message that cd hardware cannot be installed on Windows XP.  How do I resolve this error?

What's the precise text of the error message, please? (There's a few different ones I can think of that you might be getting.)

  • ITunes 10.7 will not install on Windows Vista

I just got a new iPhone 5, and so I need to update to iTunes 10.7. But, whenever I attempt to install iTunes onto my computer, after completely downloading everything, it starts the install, but after about a minute of this, it stops installing and says, "Errors occured while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually." I have tried to use its suggestion of just downloading iTunes 10.7. It downloads, but whenever I try to install (Welome to iTunes, Add iTunes shortcut to my desktop and Use iTunes as the default player for audio files checked, etc...), the status bar fills (It says Status: Copying Old Files just before it drops to just Status: ) but just sits there, doing nothing. I am also a little unsure of which file I should be trying to use first (there's AppleApplicationSupport.msi, AppleMobileDevieSupport64.msi, iTunes64.msi, and SetupAdmin.exe). I have not tried uninstalling iTunes and completely reinstalling it yet, however, mainly because I have nowhere to store my library in the meantime. I am not doing this as an administrator, but I did try the exact same thing on my administrator account, and it did not work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

To clarify, I already have iTunes 10.6. Also, I just checked back on the iTunes installer (the manual one) and it now says: "iTunes Installer Completed
The installer encountered errors before iTuens could be configured.
Errors occurred during installation. Your system has not been modified.
Please run the installer again, or click Finish to exit."

  • ITunes 7.6 will not install on Windows Vista 32-bit (iPod Service problem)

Basically, my story is near-identical to the one here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1572880&tstart=0
EXCEPT that after trying EVERYTHING rmurtagh did, I STILL had no success. Specifically, when I try to install iTunes, I get the error "Service 'iPod Service' (iPod Service) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services." and when I try to change anything using services.msc, I get the error, "The system cannot find the file specified." PLEASE HELP!!

when I try to change anything using services.msc, I get the error, "The system cannot find the file specified." PLEASE HELP!!
Are you getting that if you try to manually restart the iPod Service in Services.msc?
If so, do you get an error message number with the message? If so, what number is it?

  • ITunes 11.2.2 for Windows x64 will not successfully install.  Removed prior iTunes, and still will not install. 10.7 installs just fine, but constantly asks to upgrade to 11.2.2.  Any Thoughts?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if one component won't install normally.
If needs be, the Microsoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility (MS Installer "Fixit") may be able to help force through the installation.

  • Itunes will not install on windows 7 home

    Any one had this issue
Itunes will not install on windows 7 home

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • ITunes 11.1.4 will not install properly - windows 8.1, 64 bit.  My only way to recover is to restore my system.  iTunes 11.1.3.8 functions properly.  When will Apply provide a workable update?

iTunes 11.1.4 will not install properly - windows 8.1, 64 bit.  The only way I have found to recover is to restore my system.  I have unistalled/reintalled iTunes two times.  No success.  iTunes 11.1.3.8 functions properly (following system restore).  When is Apply expected to provide a workable update?

Uninstall your existing copy of iTunes. Delete any copies of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer files from your downloads areas for your web browsers and download a fresh copy of the iTunes installer from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
(The current build of the 11.1.4.62 installer was changed a few days ago, which fixed the bulk of the reports of MSVCR80.dll/R6034/APSDaemon.exe/Error-7/AMDS-could-not-start trouble ... but the build number on the installer was not changed. So we're trying to make sure you do the reinstall using a "new good" 11.1.4.62 installer instead of an "old bad".)
Does the install with the new copy of the installer go through properly? If so, does that clear up the error message?
If you still have the same error messages cropping up, then try the procedures from the following user tip:

You won't be able to install your original Acrobat 7 at all, or use your original serial number. The server which used to allow this was switched off.
But assuming you have a compatible system, like Mac OS 5 or Windows XP, licensed users of Acrobat 7 can download a replacement and get a replacement serial number.

  • CS3 will not install on Windows 7, 64-bit. No error message. Just stops installing.

CS3 will not install on Windows 7, 64-bit. No error message. Just stops installing. This is a brand new machine. This is one of the first things I'm installing on it. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. The disks are fine. I have the programs installed on my two XP machines. When I run the disk, I get the window pop up that says "Initializing Installation for Adobe Creative Suite 3". Then the disk stops spinning and nothing else happens. No error message. Nothing else happens. I'm baffled. I have searched several discussion boards and cannot find anybody that has had a similar install issue like this.

Old_Timer I would recommend reviewing your install logs to determine the exact error message.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the logs at Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-installation-install-logs-cs3.html.
