ITunes 10.5 will not stay closed on my Windows 7 machine.

My iTouch is not connected, and this is a fresh install. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It seems to be linked to my logitec gaming software. If i shut down the software for my keyboard and headset, i can close iTunes without an issue. more research to be done......

  • My CD/DVD drive tray will not stay closed

I have a G3 dual USB iBook and my CD/DVD-Rom tray will not stay closed. Any idea's how to fix this?

OK .. I'd been struggling with this problem for a number of weeks - on a friends iBook ( I'm not sure of the Factory Config - but it is a G4).
Anyway - I've scoured these files on the Apple Support system with NO luck at all - and a number of other forums and support sites... that is until I came across a mention of resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit). This URL was given: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449#faq6 .... which of course leads right back here!
But I read all the info and then sought out the appropriate method for a PMU reset and did it. VOILA! It worked.
Now ... I would suggest that this would be a good time to run a Disk Utility (like Disk Warrior) to check out the Disk and System.
But .. the CD Tray remains closed now. So - I hope this gets you all back in business.

  • ICal 5 ... I quit and force quit and it will not stay closed!

I upgraded to the new OSX Lion ... since that time, iCal will not stay closed.  I quit and force quit, but a couple seconds later, it opens again and appears on my dock.
    Anyone else having this issue?
    Thanks

  • ITunes will not stay closed

I have been having a problem for a few months that I cannot get iTunes to stay closed. When I try and close iTunes, it immediately reopens. This means that I cannot shut down OSX since iTunes always reopens and cancels the restart.
I have searched the net and have not found a answer to this. I do not have the iTunes widget running. I check application monitor and itunes helper is not running. I realize that something is keeping it open but I cannot figure what that is. Is there a log or anyway to find out what keeps open iTunes?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have srs iwow, LastFM & Growl. I have killed all of these and continue to have the problem. (Unless they are hanging around. I have boot with both LastFM & Growl completed turned off and the problem still shows itself.
I should also mention that my itunes now has the spinning beach ball of death quite often. It always comes out of it but at times it takes minuets to complete simple tasks.
    Thanks.

  • Optical Drive will not stay closed

The computer dropped 2 feet. Never happened before. It's working OK but I can't get the optical drive door to stay closed. I would imagine the drive isn't working then. What are my options (I've not any experience opening a machine)? What will Apple want to fix something like this?

+What will Apple want to fix something like this?+
Likely more than the iBook is worth.
Some users whose drive wouldn't stay closed have resorted to using duct tape to tape it closed.
Was the computer on when it took the tumble? If so, I would advise repairing the hard drive either by booting into Safe Mode OR by starting up from the Mac OS X Install Disc by inserting the disc and restarting your computer, holding down the C key as the startup chime is ending. Then choose Installer > Open Disk Utility (in Panther) or (in Tiger) click 'Next' at the language screen and choose Utilities > Disk Utility and select the hard drive in the left column. Choose the First Aid tab. Click Repair Disk to test and repair the hard drive.
Once you have repaired the hard drive with either Safe Mode or the Install disc's Disk Utility, then start up normally and repair permissions from Disk Utility in the Utilities folder on the hard drive.
If you're in the United States, you can use _this page_ to locate an Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area.
    Good luck.

  • Navigation pane will not stay closed and covers main window

Using RoboHelp Version 7.0.3 to produce FlashHelp - ongoing project that I've been working on for quite some time.
    Just noticed this:
I launched the Help from the application with an F1. I then closed the navigation pane in the Help output and resized the window to be tall, narrower, so I could view Help and the application window side-by-side. When changing focus between windows the SECOND time I bring focus back to the open Help window, the navigation pane reappears on its own. And it COVERS the left side of the main window, there is no horizontal scroll at the bottom, and you cannot close the navigation pane at this point. Instead, you must exit the Help and relaunch it from the application to return to a usable state, where the nav pane appears on the left and the Help topic appears on the right with appropriate scroll bars, etc.
I showed my developers this and we were able to recreate several times. Their guess is it's a problem in the javascript... Is there a fix for this? Sure looks like bug.

I'm running the latest iTunes on my Windows XP system, and it keeps restarting unless I do a force termination (in windows terminology, I have to end the process in the Task Manager).
This automatic restarting is so annoying that I end up killing the windows process, and it won't start again until i reboot the computer.
Oh, and this has been going on for well over a year, with other versions of iTunes. And I'm not sharing the contents assuming that sharing would try to force iTunes to stay open. So I removed the sharing of my iTunes library to no avail.
Apple can hardly expect to be the best choice for everyone if they don't have solutions to these obvious problems. Obvious because i've seen this complaint appear for the past 5 years, since 2007 and maybe earlier than that.
Don't they know how to end a program cleanly?

  • ITunes OS Lion - will not stay on main desktop

I have to say I don't mind a lot of th changes in Lion other than, the user does not have all options open to them to disable features like Mission Control which I hate. Enough of that.
    My question is simple.
Every time I open iTunes, it slides to the right onto that horrid "grey linen" background into another desktop which I have no interest in having. I want iTunes on the main desktop. I hate Mission Control enough, that I will switch my mp3 player to an open source player intead of using iTunes. I just want my iTunes on the main desktop page and I have clicked on the iTunes icon in the dock, and selected the option "None" for the destop, and it does nothing.
I am using a Mac 13 inch, 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, running OS Lion 10.7.1
Any insight on how to hav iTunes on the main desktop page?
    Cheers,
    Sam

    Hi, Samthemacman,
How to I change iTunes back to a regular opening ap instead of the "Full Screen View" and slide to the right back to that old normal screen?
afaik, it should suffice to exit from full screen mode, before you quit iTunes next time.
When in iTunes, go the main menu and select
View -> Exit Full Screen     (or enter Control(^)Command(⌘)-F )
then quit iTunes. Next time it launches it should start in regular mode.
    Regards

I don't use BB Blend at all, and in device manager I close it than hours later i see that it has opened itself up again and I have to close it so it does not suck up resources. Why is it that it opens itself and is there a way to delete it?

  • After installing update itune 10.5 will not open or run on windows 7 pc keeps telling me error 7 126 and that AVFoundationCF.dll failed to load. reinstall.I have done the complete 6part unistall 10 times now and each time I get the same thing anyone have

So I installed the latest update of Itune on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit PC.( the previous versions worked fine never a problem)
It installs, and comes up with error7 126. Reinstall program again.
So I go through all six steps to unistall, and reinstall a frsh downloaded compy of 64 bit Itune from Apple Site. and reinstall again and again, went through this process 10 times still having same problem, including now also comes up with AVFoundationCF.dll missing, try to install that won't install.
So now I can not use anything apple, iteunes, safari, update etc, nothing will work, which means I can no lobger sync or update my Iphone 4S.
Does anyone have an answer for me????

I'm an applications developer and also run a part-time videography business. As such, I require more than 3.12GB of RAM. That is the physical limitation of a 32bit system. Pointless to stay on 32bit if you plan on having more than that much RAM.
I'm also not about to pay someone to fix my PC when I can do it myself. I was originally hoping for someone who had experienced the problem before to point me in the right direction so I didn't have to spend so much time trying to figure out what the issue was for myself.
Basically, in the end the problem was caused because right at the point in time when I chose to uninstall, and reinstall; Apple released a new version of iTunes. This version in turn had a requirement of iOS 4.2 to sync with the iPhone. This is a pretty embarrassing for Apple that they would release software reliant on other software before said software was released.
Had I realised I was downloading a newer version at the initial point of installation, this wouldn't have been an issue. I could've easily have rolled back iTunes to the previous version and gotten on with my life.
Another issue is that iTunes is not actually a 64 bit application. It masquerades as one to allow installation on the 64 bit platform.

  • ITunes 10.5 will not load on HP 64bit Windows 7

Have a clone computer running Windows 7 64-bit Professional version. Did the 10.5 update and it worked fine. Can sync my iphone.
On my other computer, HP running Windows 7 64-bit Professional version, it came up with an error after copying all the files and did a roll back. I uninstalled iTunes, then downloaded the full version of iTunes 10.5 and get the same error. Also tried to run the update iTunes (which I downloaded only so I could install manually as suggested by the installer after the first failure). It does the same thing, copying files, gets to the very end and does a roll back.
When I get my new iPhone 4S tomorrow, wanted to give the old iPhone 4 to wife and use it on her HP. Looks like that will be temporarily scraped.
Of course Apple's response to any of these problems is that it works fine on a Mac.

Got it working today. I waited until there wre enough messages posted from others in other threads to hopefully get a solution.
I had originally not been able to load iTunes 10.5 64 bit on my HP. I did uninstall, I loaded an older version 10.2 and tried to upgrade it. Nothing worked.
There was a post to another thread about removing QuickTime and then re-installing QuickTime. That did not work. I uninstalled QuickTime again. Then I found a post to uninstall the Appl Software Updater. I did that through Control Panel.
Now my system had only iTunes 10.2 on it, no software updater, no QuickTime.
I ran the full version of iTunes 10.5 (that you get at itunes.com
It ran and when done installing all its components, it started iTunes. I checked the version in Help and it was 10.5.
Not a very pleasant experience. Be aware that if you load an old version like I did, you will have to delete your music library that has an itl extension. This phone and computer had no music so it was not a problem. If you have a lot of music, I would not load an earlier version. Just uninstall all the stuff and do your install.

  • ITunes 8.2 will not recognize iPhone 3GS on Windows XP Pro

Hi guys. I just got a new iPhone 3GS and I'm having problems getting it to sync up to my PC. I have an HP NC6400 PC notebook with Win XP Pro SP2. I installed the latest iTunes 8.2 and connected my iPhone, but nothing happens. The iPhone doesn't show up under devices and it doesn't ask to install drivers. I did several days of research on the net and tried a few different things. I booted up the iPhone in recovery mode, and it then asked to install a driver, but couldn't find any valid drivers. I found on a post somewhere that the iPhone uses a driver called USBAAPL.SYS under C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, but that file is nowhere to be found. I tried removing and reinstalling iTunes, and even tried iTunes v8.1, but no luck. I even found a link to download the file and tried to install that driver for the device, but it didn't recognize it as a valid driver. I tried connecting my iPhone to a friend's computer (Dell desktop PC also with XP SP2) and it worked perfectly, but on my own PC, no luck. There's something wrong with my PC.
There's another symptom that I noticed and I'm not sure if it's directly related or not. When I load iTunes, I get this message:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I found a post referring to this on Apple's support site here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2372?viewlocale=en_US
I followed those instructions, and it seems the error message went away. Still though, no iPhone!
Can anyone please help me? Are there more diagnostics I can run? Is there a way to REALLY be sure iTunes has been completely uninstalled? Is there a way to see if some other software may be interfering with the installation of the drivers? My iPhone works fine on other PCs, but not mine! Thanks for your help!
    Eric

Hey guys. Ok it looks like I figured it out for myself.
I opened the iTunesSetup.exe file with WinRar, and it allowed me to extract the individual .msi files for the various iTunes components. This included AppleMobileDeviceSupport.msi, AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi, Bonjour.msi, iTunes.msi, MobileMe.msi, and QuickTime.msi. I then ran each .msi individually and Removed each component. Once this was finished, I ran iTunesSetup.exe again and installed from scratch, and it worked! It looks like there was something wrong with an old installation and it never completely uninstalled. Now it's detecting my iPhone and working fine!

  • ITunes 10.6 Won't Stay Closed - No Plugins, Windows 7 64

For the past few months, every time I close iTunes it immediately reopens (10.5 at least, and 10.6 - I think it started with 10.4 but not sure). It doesn't matter if I have no other programs running, it still does this, and I have no plugins. I used to have last.fm, but uninstalled it long ago, and have reinstalled and re-uninstalled it to make sure. iTunes diagnostic shows no plugins running.
The only way for me to close it is to open the task manager and end process tree. Ending the process doesn't even work, I have to end the entire process tree. Can anyone help me out with this? All the answers I've seen have been "delete widgets" or the like, but I don't have any of those...

Ok, thanks for the help wiclee - now that I knew what was causing it I found a workaround on Logitech's forums. For anyone else here who's having this issue:
    1) Terminate LCore.exe
    2) Exit iTunes (terminate it if you have to)
    3) Go to your "C:\Program Files\Logitech Gaming Software\Applets" folder and rename the "LCDMedia.exe" program to something else (so it doesn't run) (I just added DISABLED before the .exe)
    4) Restart the LGS profiler
Thanks to SpecialK from the Logitech forums as well for the fix - this was driving me crazy!

  • My Itunes will not stay open, I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't stay open

My Itunes will not stay open. Everytime I open it it just gives me a wait signal and then closes down on it's own. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it still won't stay open.... what should I do now?

Try removing the Genius database.  In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

I just bought a new laptop and my ipod nano will not stay connected to my computer. When I first connect the ipod it starts to sync on my ipod but not on itunes. The ipod is initially connected to my computer, I can see it when I look on devices in my computer. However, when it finishes syncing it is no longer detected to my computer. I cannot transfer any of my songs to my new laptop because of this. I have tried to reinstall itunes, reset my ipod and use a different port. None of these things worked. Any ideas?
