ITunes 10.5 won't update

I have downloaded the new update, in order to get iOS 5 for my iPhone. However, the iTunes 10.5 goes through the install process but never completes or overwrites the iTunes I currently have loaded. Help is greatly appreciated.

i have had to restart the update several times before it took.

My iphone 5c says connect to itunes. It won't update/restore; error message (27) comes up. I also haven't backed the phone up since last year. HELP.

    Hi there owain11,
It looks like that particular error may be realted to a hardware issue. Take a look at the article below for more information.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • ITunes 10.5 won't update files properly on my iPod Touch 4G running iOS 5, how can I fix this?

I recently updated iTunes to 10.5 and my iPod Touch 4G to iOS 5, but now when I try to edit the ID3 tags or artwork of songs on my
iPod using iTunes, iTunes just says "Preparing to update files" but it never actually updates them. When I try to add songs
manually to iPod (my iPod is not set up to sync music with iTunes [see note below]), the same thing happens, with the newly added
songs appearing on the iPod library but are grayed out with a still loading icon next to them. Also, in some instances when I try
to change the artwork of all the songs on an album, it grays out the songs I tried to change, puts an exclamation mark by them,
and applies those changes to other songs on my iPod! And if I delete the songs I attempted to change it deletes the songs that
were received the artwork change. The songs that were unintentionally changed somehow got overwritten by the songs I was trying to
change while retaining the original tags of the songs that were changed. Not sure if I'm explaining this clearly so let me give an
example: song A is a song on an album on my iPod, song B is on song on a completely different album on the iPod. When I change the
artwork on song A, it somehow messes up my library and song A overwrites song B, but it keeps all of song B's ID3 tags. So I don't
know song B is song A until I play song B, at which point the ID3 tags are changed to the tags of the song A, and song B is just
disappears. This only started happening after updating to iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5. Not sure if the problem is caused by iTunes 10.5
or iOS 5, but I did search online and found someone with the exact same problem effecting their iTunes 9.1 (no iPod involved).
Can someone please tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it?
    Note:
I add songs manually to iPod because I don't keep my music on my PC and sync my music with iTunes because it would take up too
much space and I want to be able to add songs on my iPod from other computers. Once you set it up to sync music I believe it
disables making any changes to your iPod with iTunes on other computers.

okay, I don't know about the rest, but about the songs never actually loading onto your iPod, I found in another discussion how to fix that. I'm using Windows 7, so I don't know if the steps are the same, but the end result is the same. So go into your Start menu, then into accessories, right click 'Command Prompt' and click 'Run as administrator'. Then type in the following: netsh winsock reset then press Enter. After a few seconds it should tell you to to restart your computer for changes to take effect. Restart your computer, then restart iTunes, then everything should be working fine. It still takes forever sometimes to update the iPod, but eventually it will work. I've had to do this multiple times, so I'd suggest copying & pasting this solution into a notepad or Word document and saving it on your computer, so you don't have to go through the discussions again to find it. This tends to happen to me nearly every day unfortunately Hope this fixes that problem, but I'm not having any of the other problems fortunately, except for removing the artwork of the songs it updates without me asking it too. PS I think my problem may be with iOS 5, because iTunes 10.5 came out before iOS 5, and I think everything was fine before I updated my iPod, but I really don't know where the problem lies

  • ITunes 9.something won't update

My mother-in-laws has an older iMac circa 2006 with 10.4.11. The computer has iTunes 9.something. iTunes opens but doesn't do anything. I tried to update to 10.5 - it won't let me.
    Any suggestions?

iTunes 10 requires OSX 10.5 or higher.  Depending upon the specifications of the iMac it may be possible to upgrade.  Go to the apple in the upper left corner of the screen, then "About This Mac" and "More..."  Copy and paste the information on the basic computer setup here, but omit the serial number.
    Leopard 10.5 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3759
Snow Leopard 10.6 Technical Requirements - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575 - note by K Shaffer - http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12921514#12921514 : "Some early Intel-based Macs can't use Snow Leopard 10.6 installers; of those, the Core Duo (not 2 duo) were suspect and had issues." - and a qualifier by "a brody" http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=13028822 : "I think that refers to the ones without at least 1 GB of RAM."
What do you mean by iTunes opening but not doing anything? No media show? It won't play them?  Actually, upgrading won't help if you are seeing that kind of issue and we need to know more about what exactly you are seeing to be able to provide sugestions.

  • ITunes 7.6 won't update my nano software to 1.2

I just bought the Nike+ and I have the black 4GB first gen. nano. The software version that is on it right now is 1.1 and for the receiver to work I know that I need 1.2
I updated iTunes to 7.6 thinking it would also update my nano software but it didn't. When I try to hit "check for updates" in iTunes under my nano summary it says "the iPod software update server could not be contacted". I know that my connection is fine, iTunes store will connect and the support page will connect from iTunes also.
Under the start menu I found the Apple Software UPdate icon and clicked on that. I'm not sure exactly what software it checks for updates, but when it is completed running it says that all of my software is up-to-date.
So I did some searching on Apple's website and found an old iPod Updater from 2006 that would probably update my software but it won't work because I have the newest iTunes and updates have to be done through that.
Without updating my nano to version 1.2 I know that I won't be able to use my Nike+ so if anyone could please help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! Thank you!
I also posted this under the Nike+ category for first generation nanos but I wasn't sure where I would get the best results.

+When I try to hit "check for updates" in iTunes under my nano summary it says "the iPod software update server could not be contacted". I know that my connection is fine, iTunes store will connect and the support page will connect from iTunes also.+
With that one, try the following document:
iTunes 7 for Windows: iTunes could not contact the iPod software update server
(If that box is already checked, try unchecking and rechecking, and clicking OK.)
EDIT: Sorry, the link in there to the Vista version of the instructions seems to be broken. Top find that LAN settings dialog in Vista, go "Start > Control Panel", click "Classic View", click "Internet Options", click the "Connections" tab, and click the LAN Settings button down the bottom.

  • HT4352 iTunes match playlists won't update on apple tv

Trying to figure out how I can disable songs on my itunes match (like christmas music) so it won't play on my apple tv (2).  I can disable the songs on my imac but it doesn't appear to have any influence on my apple tv.  I really like listening to the Genius mixes but I just don't want to listen to xmas musiic in July .  I've also noticed that my playlists don't seem to update.  For example, I'll listen to songs not heard in 2 years and the songs don't appear to update (I still see the same songs the next day).

Ok nw the rented film is on the iPad which won't play and when I looked at the Mac I was greeted with an error message saying that the film could nt be transferred because the file had already been transferred somewhere else!  Thing is I can see it on theioad and the Mac still!
Obviously the film Kees checking where it as you can't watch it in two places at the same time. I can understand that but I knw it's not anywhere else.
The only thing I can think of is if when time machine backs it up it thinks it's being watched!
    Any ideas anyone?

  • ITunes 10.7 won't update - file corrupted

For some reason when I run my Software Update, iTunes 10.7 and the Security Update 2012-004 both download no problem, when I do a restart I'm told that the insatalltion could not be completed and that the files are damaged or corrupted.
If I try to download them directly from the relevant site pages, they again download no problem, but after double clicking the .dmg file I'm told the "data image corrupted" and if I fire open disk utility to verify it I'm told there is nothing wrong with the file!
This has been happening for the last week now and is getting a bit annoyiong, especially as I'm unable to transfer music to my new iPhone 5!
    Machine Spec
    iMac (4.1)
    Processor - Intel Core Duo
    Memory - 2GB Ram
    Software - 10.6.8
    Thanks in advance

I had this problem and got frustrated until I just kept pressing retry, and eventually it went through and successfully installed.

  • ITunes 10.6 won't update

I got iTunes 10.6.1.7 and there seems to be an update availabe, but as soon as I clicl "load" just nothing happens
Apple Software Update says "there's new software from Apple available" but it lists nothing to install...
solutions besides downloading the newest version and to re-install ?

Same for me, really really annoying. For anyone saying you have to update a certain field.. no that's not it. There is a bug somewhere. I've restored, reset, and deleted caches to try to fix it. It will not update song info unless you tag it before you put it in iTunes. God forbid you want to organize your music in iTunes. It's so broken, I've also used it with a lower version of an iPod touch, 4.3 I believe is the firmware, and am still able to update that music info. It may be a bug in iOS5. Either way it needs to be fixed.

  • Itunes hangs or won't update apps on iphons 5s

itunes 11.1.5 hangs and returns unknown error (0xE800002D) when sync with iphone 5s

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Itunes 5.0 won't update my ipod

Have been suffering through vers 5 like most of us. It has installed ok and looks ok but will not update my ipod. It recognises it is plugged in and it tells me it is doing it but nothing happens. I have installed the latest quicktime and ipod updater and even tried changing the drive letter of the ipod.. But now I can't change the drive letter back as it only lists the ipod drive when it is pretending to update it and of course I'm not quick enough to change it back even if it would let me. Anyone got any ideas? Please.

Because you really have a 2G iod. Those can only go to 4.2.1.  If yours is an 8or 16 GB one it is a 2G Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPOds. A 32 GB one can be either. To identify yours see:
    Identifying iPod models
You use the model number on the back to tell a 2G from a 3G.

My husband and I are using the same iTunes account on all mac & pc computers, but the libraries are different on each machine.  We always manually manage our music (no auto sync).  iTunes is up to date on the PCs.  My husband uses our joint iTunes account on his pc, but once again, has a different collection in his library from those on the other machines.  He can't load any music from his PC to his iphone 4.  I can load music from my mac library to my iphone 4s, but cannot load from my pc library to my iphone 4s.  How can I switch my main library that it syncs with from the mac to the pc?

Sometimes uptop the loading bar will appear but for only a split second. I have tried restarting, shutting down, I cannot figure out why it won't download. What's happening and how do I fix it?

Try updating using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) installer file downloaded from the Apple website:
