Itunes 10.6.1.7 Bug?

Ever since I updated Itunes to 10.6.1.7, it will not reconize my Iphone 4s. I keep getting the "this iphone cannot be used because the apple mobile device is not started" message.
I've tried every solution that was on the support page about this topic and cant seem to get anywhere.

Since we don't know everything you've tried, make sure you work through this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538, including 1-6 at the bottom (especially 2&3). If it still won't work uninstall iTunes and all of its components following this guide exactly: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923, then reinstall iTunes. (If you don't follow the guide exactly it will not be successful). Uninstalling iTunes only removes the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

ITunes 8.2.1 update bug (-50) and changes to iTunes Photo tab

1. Since I updated to iTunes 8.2.1, have had the following bug whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch (2G). "The iPod " " cannot be synced - An unknown error occurred (-50)." pops up.
2. I have a file in iPhoto of just photos for my iPod (instead of the entire - huge - iPhoto Library.) Under iTunes, looking under the Photos Tab, this choice was "selected albums" - which allowed you to pick just one album from one's iPhoto Library to be synced. But this choice, the button, is now greyed out. It is there, but one can no longer select it.

4. On top of that, the default - Sync All Photos from iPhoto is now selected. (I think this is the cause for the -50 error). I never intended to have my whole iPhoto library automatically imported by my iPod.
4. As others have done here, I turned off "Sync Photos" from iPhoto.
5. Then when I try to sync, no problem, no hitches. No Error prompts. Great.
6. But - this way, I am forever stuck with the photos that are in my iPod now. Adding new photos seems impossible, as the sync Selected Albums button is greyed out.
7. Have I overlooked something? From other posts, it seems this is a bug that is widespread.

same exact problem just happened within the last few weeks (something to do with snow leopard update??)..i had other wise been happily syncing a second generation touch with version 3.0

ITunes 7 - movie trailer viewing bug?

Hi, just upgraded both iTunes and Quicktime. Everything is working perfectly except for viewing movie trailers.
The Bug:
When I choose "View Trailer" I can hear the audio and a box appears with the iTunes background of what was previously in that position (ala - a cut&paste effect) but no video.
The Temporary Fix:
If I close iTunes (not Quit) and reopen iTunes from the dock - Viola! There's the trailer.
Again, everything else is working great. Any suggestions?
(p.s. - off topic - I can't post to this forum from Firefox - only Safari. Waa!)

ITunes 8 + Vista: Two major bugs discovered that lead to losing your music

Hi everyone,
After much trial and error and incredible amounts of frustration, I think I have figured out what was erasing my iTunes library or forcing me to restore to factory settings. Apple Development Team: please take note. You may want to fix these two in the next version of iTunes:
*BUG #1 - iTunes 8 for Vista not compatible with iTunes 8 for XP.*
This is a major issue, and incredibly frustrating. I use my iPod at home (with my Vista PC), and at the office (running XP). This was always ok until I updated to iTunes 8. Since then, if I update my iPod's library at the office (using XP), the next time I connect it to my home computer (Vista), iTunes tells me it can't read the data and forces the iPod to restore to factory settings. Extremely frustrating, to say the least.
In previous versions of iTunes, this was never an issue. In iTunes 8, your iPod's data is not compatible between XP and Vista. This is major!
*BUG #2 - In iTunes 8, music and movies are tethered; you can't manually synch one without the other*.
This is a more complex bug to explain, and it has to do with the interface and user experience more than anything else.
I like to update my iPod's music library manually, instead of synching automatically. It gives me more freedom. In previous versions of iTunes, you could determine which type of media you could update manually or auto sync (music, movies, podcasts, etc)... For instance, I like to manually update my music library, but have my podcasts update automatically.
Recently I customized my settings in iTunes 8 to do the following: update music manually, but auto-synch my movies. The result: all my music got erased from my iPod, and had to manually update it again. This was extremely frustrating.
Apparently music+movies are now tethered in iTunes 8. Can't customize individually how you update you iPod for these types of media.

For the record, I tested these two issues on different computers, and could replicate the bugs, clockwork. These are major issues, and I believe are directly related to its Vista compatibility.
I hope these two problems could be fixed for the next iTunes update. It's an issue.

ITunes 9.2 - Genre Setting Bug

Has anyone worked a way to stop iTunes automatically choosing Genres for songs - when the chosen Genre contains a number in it's name ?
e.g. Rock 90's will set itself to Folk or Avantgarde .... ?
Only seems to be a bug with Genre's that contain numbers. VERY VERY Annoying when you use Genres extensively.....

Looks like iTunes 9.2 is reading the first few characters of the Genre and intrepreting it as one of the pre-defined genres used in the ID3v1 specification.
If you re-apply the desired genre it may stick. If not, then the problem might be that the file in question has both an ID3v1.x & ID3v2.x tag, which is allowed by the specfification, but not well supported by iTunes. I think that in some circumstances iTunes may update the v2.x tag, but then re-read the unedited v1.x information.
The workaround will be to Convert ID3-Tags > None two or three times, then Convert ID3-Tags > v2.3. Don't use v2.4, as as fara as I'm aware, this too seems to not be properly supported by iTunes.

Itune 8.1 has seriously bugged my computer

Loaded 8.1 and it's been nightmare. (Gateway 6750 Vista) I maintain everything way it should be, (firewalls/spyware/adware/virus scans). Have done all basic fixes. Have had computer for nearly 2 years-stable and problem free the whole time. Never a bug.
Now,Itunes does not open at all. Does not allow uninstall in control panel. Can not reinstall new download. Computer does not shut off fully-hangs on "logging off" indefinitely. Have tried to manually delete Itunes off Control panel-(in programs folders-nothing works.) Have tried to run in Safe mode-THat does not even get to windows desktop-hangs at black "blank" screen.
Have tried to restore computer to previous point (before 8.1 install 3/10) does not work. I can't regain control of my computer. Help!

Need to re-authorize iTunes after Time Machine restore -bug?-

After a ganked iTunes/Quicktime update I had to use Time Machine to restore my Mac.
After trying to re-sync my iPod with iTunes I was informed that this machine was no longer authorized despite it being the same machine.
I had to re-authorize the machine through iTunes and now have 2 authorized Macs even though it's the same machine and I can't de-authorize the "old version" since it just de-authorizes what you're using i.e. the "new version"
My worry is that if I have to carry out further Time Machine restores then my 5 authorized slots will fill up and then I'll have to de-authorize all computers which you can only do once a year.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and I assume this is a bug?

ITunes 7.5 blank window bug

I found a replicatable bug in iTunes on my Leopard install. Try it see if it works for you..
Open iTunes, play a song that has album art.
Click on the album art & display it in a separate window.
Close the iTunes window (leaving just the album art showing)
Make another application active (like Preview).
While that other app is active in the front click the album cover. A blank white box appears in the same place & shape as the iTunes window you closed earlier.
I got this to happen over & over...

ITunes 7.0 Distorted Songs Bug

This is the problem with iTunes messing up songs by having skipping, distrotion, echoing, and other issues. I've tried to turn sound up all the way, which is a temparary fix, and I really don't think lowering the quality will work for me. Everytime I get to a certian site on firefox iTunes starts with the issues and won't stop until I have to close it. Does someone have a good fix for this?

There's nothing you can do to fix them, it is an ITunes problem, I know this cause there are 5 computers in my house (3 laptops, 2 desktops) all 2 years or younger, one with a great soundblaster card and ALL 5 are having the crackling distorting playback

Verification of the adress in iTunes Store impossible because of bug in the Store

I have bought a new iPhone and synchronised it with my existing iTunes Account. Now I have to verify my billng details. But that is impossible.
I am asked to choose my title but in the scrolling menue you have no possiblity (Madame or Sir) to choose. Therefore I can't send my new information because I didn't fill the form completly.
I did report it to Applesupport but I didn't get an answer so far. Does anybody knows this and maybe knows a way to solve it?

If I try to connect the "french store", it's fine, I can choose the title, but my credit card is refused.
The problem occure when I want to create an account to the "belgian store".

On syncing iPhone 4 with iTunes 10.5.1.42, the message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to install it now?" appears, EVEN AFTER it was successfully installed previously.
It seems to affect Virgin Mobile (Australia) customers only.
Replicable: Yes
Click on "Check for Updates" via "About" on iTunes, you will get the same message again.

ITunes double click problem (query bug)

With the recent iTunes update 7.7.1(11), I noticed that when switching between iTunes (esp. when it is in the compact mode) and other apps, a single mouse click in iTunes is often interpreted as a double click. This leads to distress when I try to pause the current track as the double click action pauses the track then plays it.
To relieve this symptom, I need to minimize iTunes and maximize it again.
Anyone else out there with the same problem?

i'm having this same problem, but the "auto" double-clicking happens in mac mail. i've checked mouse settings, i've rebooted, but nothing seems to help. whenever i switch into mail, my first click is always treated as a double-click. (very annoying, since it usually opens a message into an unwanted window.)
another mouse-related problem: sometimes my mac seems to be swallowing mouse clicks. (not in mail, though! maybe that's where all those lost clicks are going! <g>) my mac acts as if i am clicking on a dead zone (that is, a region that doesn't accept clicks). i can click on the region all day (e.g. a tab in safari) and nothing will happen. if i, however, click on something else (even, say, just the background of a web page), the go back to the area that was dead moments before (that tab, e.g.), suddenly it accepts the click.
any ideas?

Restore iPhone 4s as new - iTunes vs iCloud to fix bugs

What is the difference in restoring iPhone to new in iTunes verses? Trying to fix rapid battery drain issue as well as new ones i.e. when texting/emailing; in an app, etc. screen suddenly closes and goes to home screen and all info is lost in and have to start over with whatever I was doing...soooo frazzled!! What do I do?

Well...I deleted both my iTunes and iCloud backups and went through the whole "Restore as New" process. Wouldn't you know the issue still exists? I just can't understand how it stayed with the device even after starting from scratch. Beyond frustrating!

Possible iTunes 11 and 10.6 bug

I recently upgraded to iTunes 11.0.1 from iTunes 10 on a MBP running 10.6.8 (no iTunes plug-ins). Since upgrading, any of the long mp3 lectures that I listen to that get up to about the 56-minute mark, then iTunes moves on to the next playlist selection prematurely by itself. This happens both while it's playing on it's own, or if I use the mouse to move the playhead diamond near the 56-minute mark and then can watch it switch prematurely to the next selection. I've tried the same mp3 files on a different MBP running both 10.7 and 10.8 and iTunes 11 and this problem does not appear. And iTunes 10 played these kinds of files without progressing prematurely just fine under 10.6.8. Suggestions?

I have 11 on my SnowLeopard macbook and 10 on my newer 10.7.5 iMac.
I've been comparing them and fiding lots of faults with 11 but I thought if possible I might give 11 another chance on a newer system but I guess not

So, I installed iTunes 10. Big mistake.
It worked fine for about two hours. When it first opened it did the checking iTunes library thing (65Gb on a Drobo connected to a Windows 7 box) took about 5 minutes doing it, then opened fine.
I updated my iPhone to IOS4.1 and went to bed leaving the update downloading.
Next day, I remove iPhone, close iTunes and go to work.
Come home, open iTunes and then sit waiting for about 35-45 minutes for it to open, all the while watching a lot of data (by the time it had finished, at least 7-800mb) go between the W7 box and my Mac Pro on Little Snitch. Once it finally opens, I connect my iPhone to it and it starts again; spinning wheel; freeze-o-matic. This is no good, I think, and then it's finished. Great, I think. Oh no; it wants to re-download all of my apps and it no longer recognises that my iPhone was previously synced with it.
So, I do the delete iTunesLibrary and the proper export-re-import of the xml thing, re-create my library. It still takes 35-45 mins to open, and now the Apps menu under library is missing altogether, even though I can see, and choose whether to sync, all of the apps on the iPhone.
This is really not good enough, Apple. This software is broken. It cannot deal with my library being on a remote drive (iTunes 9 was fine with this) and it has mashed up my iPhone (twice, now)
What is going on?
When I speak to AppleCare they act like I have a bad install or something (I deleted and re-downloaded it - that's when my apps menu disappeared) It is ridiculous. I am going to export all of my playlists when it finally opens this time and DOWNGRADE back to iTunes 9.1
Why fix what wasn't broken? Why pretend there is no problem?
