Itunes 10.6.1 (7) incredible slow and sluggish, does anyone know why?

Itunes takes about 5 min to start and when it startes it's unresponsive for another 10 min after that it acts fine. But if I try to connect to itunes store it's the same thing, about 10 min of hang time. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Any help or tips would be apriciated.

Hold down the option key while starting iTunes and tell it to make a new library. Add a few tracks to the test library. How is response time?
Possible reasons for slowness:
Genius or Match (which you don't have).
Many or highly complex smart playlists.
Huge numbers of regular playlists (some people have been known to make a playlist for each album),
Corrupt library.
Other issue such as file permissions.
In a recent discussion about this somebody found rebuilding their library cured the problem. you can do this but you lose things such are playcount, ratings, date added, playlists, etc.

Did you try to reset the device by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting.

Now I wanted to listen to it on my iPhone so I proceeded to transfer the purchase and looked for the book in the purchased section of the store in the iTunes on my iPhone but it did not show up.
Does anyone know why and how I can transfer the audio book purchased on my iPhone so I can listen while away from the desk?

Can you find the audio book by using the Search feature on the iPod?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync the audio book to the iPod?

Note you have to check the boxes in Books pane for the iPod in iTunes to sync books in general and another box to sync Audio Books.

Click Change and select a new location for your files.From now on, new songs and other items you import will be stored in the new location. These are user-to-user forums, you are not talking to Apple here.
Audiobooks (and ringtones) are currently a one-time only download. I believe that they are all supplied to Apple by audible.com, so I assume that it's them who are requiring the one-time only download restriction. To get it onto your other devices you will need to sync it via a computer. Depending upon what country that you are in, Audible.com have their own app (Audiobooks from Audible) so you might be able to buy direct from them, though I don't know whether you can buy within their app or download audiobooks directly from them within the app e.g. whether they need to be copied via a computer.

I've been having the same issues too, and thought it was just my outdated computer or account?!
Every time I try to purchase a song, "session has timed out" shows up after I click "agree" to the terms!? I seem to be in the exact same scenario as 'SportsBarn' above: Itunes support have replied repeatedly with the same "solutions" but nothing has helped or even been applicable. I have an older laptop, 2005 Powerbook running OS X 10.4 Tiger so it's not compatible with the latest iTunes 10.5.2 which requires minimum OS X 10.5. You do not have to have an Apple TV, but you should have an AirPlay capable speaker on your network.

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

When I bootup the icon for Elements shows up in orange. It changes to green only when I've gone to Finder and clicked on Elelments under the Devices list. This is a recent development. The icon used to be green upon bootup. Does anyone know why ?

I'm not affiliated w/ the developer, just a happy user that gave up fighting the apple podcast app a while ago. I used to have a bunch of smart playlists in itunes for my podcasts, and come home every day and pathologically synced my phone as soon as I walked in the door, and again before I walked out the door in the morning.
Since my wife was doing this too, we were fighting over who's turn it was to sync their phone.
Since I've switched to Downcast, I no longer worry about syncing my phone to itunes at all. I can go weeks between syncs.
Setup a "playlist" in downcast (ex., "Commute") and add podcasts to that playlist. Add another playlist ("walk" or "workout") and add different podcasts to that one.
Set podcast priorities on a per-feed basis (ex., high priority for some daily news feeds, medium priority for some favorite podcasts, lower priority for other stuff). Downcast will play the things in the priority you specify, and within that priority, it will play in date order (oldest to newest).
Allegedly, it will also sync your play status to other devices, although that is not a feature I currently use and can't vouch for. It uses apple's iCloud APIs, so to some extent may be limited by what Apple's APIs can do.

Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:

I would to a Restore. Select the iPod in iTunes. Go to the Summary tab for the iPod. There is a button there to do a Restore. This will erase the iPod, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. After Restore complete, try playing songs on the iPod again.
If THAT does not fix the problem, and it's not bad headphones (since you also tried the "speaker"), there is probably a hardware problem on the iPod. All 7th gen nanos are still under warranty. If you have an Apple Store nearby, you should take it to the store's Genius Bar. To minimize waiting, you can make a reservation on store's web page.
