ITunes 10.6.1.7 uses 99% of CPU / Win7

iTunes consumes over 90% of my PC CPU when syncing my iPad 1. The sync does go thru but it takes a huge amout of time and while it's doing it I can't do anything with the PC as 90-99% of the CPU time is consumed by iTunes. When iTunes is "idle" (= not syncing with iPad), it uses about 50% of CPU.
I reinstalled my iPad from factory settings and discarded all the settings in iTunes about the iPad -> no change.
I uninstalled iTunes and all other Apple products (Bonjour, iCloud manager, Safari...) and installed iTunes again -> no change.
I didn't pay attention to when this started - with the new version of iTunes, or when I set up Home Share or when I connected my new AppleTV 2 to the same network.
I already tried the netsh winsock reset -> no help in my case. Also, there are no conflicting Winsock Providers/Layered Service Providers (LSP).
What to do to get iTunes behaving itself?

I've got exactly the same issue here. Also tried all of the above suggested fixes. No luck either.

This is sometimes caused by a problem with the iTunesPrefs.xml file, normally found at C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunesPrefs.xml. Try dragging this to the desktop and trying again.
Alternatively the problem may be that you have McAfee AV and it is preventing iTunes from updating the same file and thus causing the problem. See Why does iTunes delete my itunesprefs.xml? for details.

I'm unable to make iTune purchases from my phone using my iTune gift card, the gift card information is entered on the phone and I can see the credit amount.

I am having the same problem and it is REALLY frustrating.
Exact setup that you have, COMCAST, PayPal, etc....
I have reviewed my account three times with my PayPal info and received confirmation from my PayPal Account but it still won't let me log in. Let me know if you hear anything.
This is a REAL PAIN.

When you reset to factory settings, the computer is de-authorised.
In iTunes menu Store > View Account > sign in > App Store > Deauthorise All.
Once done, authorise this computer iTunes.
Note: you can only do that once a year.

ITunes plus songs - Can I use it in more than one computer?

Hi,
I"m planning to buy songs from iTunes. Now that the songs are iTunes plus, is it possible to copy the song file to a different PC and upload it to iTunes?
I've been used to buying songs from Amazon as it is MP3 format and wondering if iTunes plus offers the same flexibility as MP3 format when it comes to using it in multiple devices/machines.
Any thoughts on this is appreciated.

Yes you can copy the iTunes Plus songs to other machines.
I wouldn't quite say it has the "same flexibility," however. The Amazon songs, being MP3s, can be played in virtually any player, program, or phone, while the iTunes songs, being in AAC format, are more likely to run into incompatibilities. But if you are talking about other machines running iTunes, then it will not be a problem.

To solve this issue all I did was check to ensure that the file permissions were set as described by the earlier posts, followed by simply deleting the iTunes Library Genius.itdb file. Once the file was deleted I was able to open iTunes without difficulty. Note that I am running Windows 8. Hope this helps!

Baiscally the problem is that one comuter and one account has always been sued for eey persons itunes. option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. I'd suggest you consider a cloud-based file sharing service such as Dropbox for this sort of use. iOS is not designed to be synched with more than one iTunes library at a time, so attempting to use it as you describe, connecting a single iPad to multiple computers, almost certainly won't work as you intend and is likely to cause nothing but headaches.

Your iPhone and iPod can share the same iTunes account. Apps can be freely shared and used by one or both devices. You can't use money in your iTunes account to pay for your phone, but purchased apps can be used by both the iPod and iPhone.

I thought So too but then I went to Itunes Library and try and buy a single song from an album for $1.29. Now my Itunes Gift card balance is $ 7.10 as I mentioned earlier. it still did not let me buy and kept trying billing my Visa card.
Should I restart my PC and Itunes and retry. What do you suggest?
