Itunes 10.6.1.7 won't open

There's no error message or anything. Whenever I try to run it it just gives me the loading cursor for a few seconds and then nothing. I don't know how to look for and fix the fault module in the problem report, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do, and I will give this a try...but use of my gaming software is more important than the nussance of having to kill iTunes with task manager.  But, at least then I will know what the problem is.
edit...well, this seems to have solved the problem.  I wish Apple and Logitech would get on the same page again.  It's like they had a divorce or something about a year ago and since then nothing works right between the two.  As soon as Logitech fixes the issues, Apple makes a new one. And neither company seems all to concerned at how it is affecting their customers.

  • After installing iTunes 10.3.1 it won't open, error message - "the file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes"

new iTunes won't open. Error says cant read iTunes Library.itl becuase it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
I had just installed iTunes 10.3.1 as was instructed by the Genius at the store.

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

  • ITunes 10.5.2  it won't open

Just updated to iTunes 10.5.2 and now it won't open at all. I double click on icon and nothing happens. Have uninstalled and reinstalled please help I need to get my new iPhone 4s up and running

I'm seeing similar behavior where iTunes crashes and I get the "Quit unexpectedly" error. In my case, it works fine for a while and then crashes without any apparent cause. I can't detect a pattern to the failues and I can't cause it to fail - sometimes it quits mid-song, sometimes it crashes when it is paused. It happens repeatedly, i.e. it's completely unstable.
I am still running Snow Leopard v.10.6.8, so it isn't just a Lion issue. I now realize that the problem first appeared about the time I upgraded to iTunes 10.5.2  but since I was having some other issues at the same time, I didn't immediately recognize it as a SW issue with iTunes.
Last week I did a clean install of OS X Snow Leopard after a full format of my HD and the problem with iTunes still persists. I have logs of the last 5 crashes if anyone wants to try to make sense of them (I sent one set to Apple already).
This is a real PIA that I hope gets some quick attention.

  • Just Updated iTunes/Quicktime and it still won't open...

Ok so I have Windows XP and I went to open iTunes a little bit ago and it told me that iTunes couldnt open because I had Quicktime 7.0 and i needed at least 7.1.
So I downloaded a the newer version of iTunes and Quicktime 7.1 or whatever and it still won't open. I shut down and restarted my computer and it is still telling me the same error message. Its trying to tell me delete my iTunes or something and re-download it.
I'm really really afraid that I will lose most of my music library because I havent backed it up recently and I have a lot of purchased music and I really dont know what to do! Someone please help!
      Windows XP

ok i just deleted Quicktime and then reinstalled 7.1 and everything works! iTunes and Quicktime both open and work like normal!

  • ITunes 7.1 (newest one) won't open and I've tried all the posted solutions

I upgraded itunes but now it won't open. I tried going to repair under the control panel, I uninstalled then re-installed, and then I deleted the SC info like the Apple tutorial said (so please don't post any of those generic links to them) and STILL it won't open (will they EVER come out with a newer one that works decently? --the only reason I upgraded right away is because the previous one made the tracks all choppy).

the cursor gets a hourglass for as second or 2 and my comp. makes the general loading noise, then nothing happens ---I don't think it's a firewall as the file is still itunes.exe (as with older versions) and it was never blocked before
yeah it opened with another windows account ---does that help you out?
(actually, it did the same load symbol then nothing --so I switched back to tell you no, then I went to log it out so I could delete it, then the thing with the user agreement (as I said I had re-installed) poped up and after clicking yes and other options about uploading music it worked -----still doesn't work on my actual windows account though)

  • Have a iTunes music player file that won't open through iTunes - help!

I downloaded a music file from the internet that is an iTunes music player file, and now when I try to import it to iTunes it won't open or even if I just try to open the file it brings up iTunes, but no music is opened or played. I've tried to change the file's format through iTunes but i couldn't figure that out and I've tried to save it as a different type of file when I downloaded but that didn't work either. HELP PLEASE! I WANT MY MUSIC!!

Useful info, Katrina. It's been so long since I had install an app to handle that (Remember Stuffit?) that it didn't occur to me that Windows either couldn't do it or didn't come with a utility along with all the other stuff that seems to come on an new computer.

  • Please help! iTunes 10.5 (64-bit) won't open!

I have tried EVERYTHING to get my iTunes to load. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, changed firewall settings and everything else I've seen in help forums. It still won't open. I double click and nothing happens. I've tried opening it through the Start menu as well. Anyone else having the same problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

Just tried this after itunes crashed consistently - wouldn't open.
NOW I can sign the license agreement but get the message : "The iTunes library .itl file cannot be found or created. The default locatioin for this file is in the iTunes folder in the Music folder.
I can do a search for the most recently saved .itl iTunes library (from 10/18, sigh). But I can't figure out where to put that once I find it.
    Any help? Thanks!

I just installed the new iTunes 10 and when I try to open iTunes, it says "iTunes cannot run because somw of it's required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes. First off, how do i reinstall itunes? (step by step please)? and if i do reinstall it, will i lose all of my media in my library? If anyone could please help, it would be greatly appreciated! (:

With that one, I think we should try getting the malware possibilities off the table first.
Try downloading and installing the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware. Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hour on my Lenovo.)

Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

  • ITunes store-bought Digital Booklet won't open

I downloaded Avenged Sevenfold's Hail to the King Deluxe Version and the .pdf file Digital Booklet won't open. Adobe Reader says the file is damaged, is there any way to get around that?

DIgital booklets are not available for repeat download or I would suggest you simply delete and get a fresh copy. Instead use the "report a problem" links in your account history to contact the store support team. Hopefully they can requeue a working version for you to download.

  • Downloaded itunes 11.4 upgrade and won't open at all

Hi, I have OS 10.6.8 and just upgraded to itunes 11.4 and it will not open at all.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Any solutions for this problem? Running 10.6.8 and downloaded the most recent ITunes update I had available but didn't try to run it after installing, went to run it today and now I receive the message 'You can't open the application ITunes because it is not supported on this type of Mac.' and the ITunes symbol is crossed out. Any help would be appreciated.
Also forgot to mention, the Itunes version is 11.4 and it's 10.6.8 on one of the 2008 black macbooks.

  • ITunes icon on my PC won't open anymore...

I'm miserable.  I'm trying to move my ipod music from my itunes app onto my iphone.  In the process I somehow managed to make it so that when I double click on my itunes icon on my pc, it no longer opens up.  I reinstalled QuickTime Player, but nothing.  HELP!!!

If you have your music in the Music folder on the computer.. it won't go anywhere you're just uninstalling iTunes not removing your files.
When you reinstall iTunes it should automatically look for media that you want in your iTunes library.  If not, go to File/Add Folder and/or File to library and locate the folder where your music is stored.

  • ITunes 7 - Loads Library, then won't open

    Hello,
I've had smooth running for a long while, but suddenly iTunes
    - LOADS library, but doesn't open a window with my music (the menu bar shows, but is unresponsive)
    - WON'T QUIT, even if I try FORCE QUIT.
I've restarted multiple times and repaired permissions - no luck.
Any ideas that won't trash my ratings and groups, etc.?
    Thanks.

What if I attach the firewire drive that my iTunes music is on to my Powerbook and open it in my Powerbook's iTunes? What library info does it use?
Whichever music library is on the drive, however, first you'll need to point iTunes to the drive via the iTunes preferences>advanced>general panel: see iTunes music folder location section.
    However, before you go there:
From your original post and response It sounds like there may be iTunes application corruption.
I would remove/download/reinstall iTunes. This would include removing the following:
    iTunes.app in your Applications folder
    iTunesX.pkg and iTunes.pkg in your /Library/Receipts folder
The 3 preference files I mentioned in my previous post
    iTunes folder in your /Library/Documentation/Applications
The reinstall ought to leave your iTunes music folder alone. However, just to be safe: make a copy (highlight/cmd. key + D) of your
    iTunes Music Library.xml
    iTunes Library
files in your /UserAccount/Music/iTunes folder and move these copies to your desktop.
Remember to "repair permissions" once the upgrade is complete.
