ITunes 10.6.1 - Unable to use Apple TV
Since installing 10.6.1 (which I was very much looking forward to, for the TV Show sort order bug fix), I can't use Apple TV (gen 2) at all for streaming my own movies. It'll play somewhere between 0 and 30 seconds of video (usually closer to 0), then give "An error occurred".
I have installed it on two different Macs, one running Snow Leopard 10.6.8, one running Lion 10.7.3. Same error streaming from both machines. I reverted the SL machine back to 10.6, since that machine holds most of my media, and the error went away. Of course, now I'm back to the sort order problem...
I'm interested as I have had similar probs with some services on my PC since the update. I used to install updates with a user account and an elevated prompt for Admin privileges. Now I update in Admin Account using the manual download. The last update threw up an access error to the c drive root Config.Msi folder, though a check revealed all Security privileges for Administrators were as they should be. Having checked and then clicked on Try Again in the error message box it proceeded to complete the installation.
Normal practice for an installation on a windows machine is for the updating program to append to the one file here and rewrite the file back appended during the cleanup of the Temp backup files at the end of the installation. During the installation I noticed that there was some 30 files here, which means various applications are not cleaning up properly. A browse of the internet found that this is no big shake. And the contents of this folder - normallly hidden if Show Hidden Folders and Files is off in the Folder options under View settings in Explorer, can safely be deleted anyway.
The interesting thing was that even in full admin mode and manual installation the installer did not see, the Admin priveileges on the folder and files!!
Now why would that be I wonder?
Itunes and quicktime are known to have problems during installations if not done in Admin mode, but the manual install specifically includes an extra EXE file named AdminElevate.exe some 20+mb + the installer programme of 43MB.
If the scripts for object permission recognition are not what they should be then all kinds of errors will occur on install.
Some of the problems in these pages might be due to inconsistencies of object security prermission recognition.
Which brings us back to the theme expressed in many pages elsewhere in the forum
- do Apple thoroughly test the cross platform environments before release??

Yes, I had loaded that into my account, and it still showed the full amount of the card value next to my name. That did not change or show it being reduced by the amount I had wanted to purchase from my wish list, so I knew I still have that amount sitting in my "bank" waiting to be spent.
How do I access it, or better yet, get out of this loop of log in/redeem/already redeemed mess.Click on the "Start" button. Click "Run." Type the word "cmd" in the open box. When the DOS screen comes up, type "netsh winsock reset." Press "Enter." Type "exit" to close the DOS window and go back to Windows.
Restart the computer.

Songs and ringtones are different types of music files. The file extension of Songs is mp4 and that of ringtones is mp4r. They are not interchangeable. You need to download the ringtone you want or convert the file with a ringtone creator app of which they are many for free in the App Store.

Itunes freezes when I try to use Apple TV2
I have an issue about 3 times a week, that when I go to stream something from itunes to Apple tv2 that it will cause itunes to freeze, I have to force quit itunes and restart and that normally will work, but occasionally i have to do it multiple times
Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel. -

Firstly I am unable to use Apple mail except for hotmail, for blueyonder, gmail or Sky as the server shows as (off line) and I have no idea how to get them on line even though I tell them to go there.
My pop up blocker doesn't work and I am blitzed with advertising windows virtually on ever command I make, one seems to be impossible to unsubscribe from.
When I am in an email with a web link the web link doesn't work and I get a window saying that I must have a pop up blocker, but if I switch it off it is no different, what does work is switching the "enable Java script off", then when I get to the web site I can't use it until I switch the java script back on.
I can't do a screen shot either full or partial, when I try it changes the web site that is on screen to another.
So what have I done that might have caused problems, downloading Yosemite seemed to be the start of the problems. Since then I have started to install Mackeeper, after checking with a family members who should know, that MacPaw is safe. I decided that I didn't want to pay the subscription, so went through the uninstall instructions but it comes up as a pop up with considerable regularity.
My stress levels have gone through the roof with pop ups happening so regularly and not being able to use Apple mail.o can anyone help please?

Want to uninstall and reinstall iTunes. Ran uninstall for itunes and QuickTime. Unable yo remove Bonjour and Aple program. Error message that they are in use or the folder is open, ipodservice.exe is not running.

Apple store gift cards and iTunes gift cards are not interchangeble. They have to be used for the store in which they were purchased.

HT1551 I can share everything through iTunes but unable to mirror either of my Macs using Apple tv.
Q: Why am I unable to view my iMac screens using apple tv. I have share turned on, I have opened iTunes and signed in. I am able to play Vimeo, You Tube, itune libraries, also I am able to play my videos loaded from imovie to share on iTunes. But doesn't mirror screens. I am able to mirror my iPad without a problem.
Is your iMac mid 2011 or newer ?
Your profile says it is an older iMac.
If not, most older Apple computers do not have that feature.
You must also be running Mountain Lion or newer for that feature along with a Mac that is 2011 or newer.

I have been unable to use the "Advanced - Create iPad or Apple TV Version" to convert my movies for use with my iPad2. The movie will go through the conversion process, and is the correct length, but the video is a black and there is no sound? Has anyone found a similar problem? If so, what can I do to fix the problem? Before I used Handbrake to convert the videos which worked well, but now that is not working either .

Due to my brother locking me out of my ipod touch I had to wait an hour to log in again. Unfortunately when I did this, I, again put in the wrong password twice more, each time locking me out for a further 60 minutes. On my 3rd attempt to log in the wrong password was entered again. This time though instead of logging me out for another 60mins it now tells me to "connect to itunes" but I have no idea how to do this and I am now unable to use my ipod. Why does iTunes/iPhone 4S insist it can't find a song on my PC or my phone when it is on both? This is resulting in me being unable to use the ringtones I created from these songs, but I can still play the songs.If you have added the ringtone file correctly to iTunes, it will appear under iTunes 'Tones' library.
If you don't find Tones library in iTunes, go to iTunes menu EDIT/PRFERENCES under GENERAL tab, check the Tones Box under Library source to display Tones library in iTunes.
iTunes accepts only m4r file as ringtone and has to be less than 40secs.
