ITunes 10.6.1 upgrade changes track names to Chinese characters.....
This is very weird, after upgrading, the track names in iTunes, TV Shows, Music and others changed to Chinese characters and wingding characters...not all of them though, just the visible ones so when I scroll I still have regular English names....very strangely, these incorrect names are also visible on AppleTV, I guess it takes the names straigh of my Air....anybody any idea how to fix this...it happended after restarting iTunes after the upgrade....

I had my pst file copied from Outlook 2007 and installed on a test computer with iTunes 10.1.6 and the calendar sync occurred no problem
My techie, then basically said it was some registry files on the desktop that must be corrupted and he deleted them with a program.
He is back tomorrow for futher testing I will keep you informed

There are a few ways:
Highlight song, press function key f2, edit name, press enter.
You can edit other fields by clicking twice in them slowly, click too fast and iTunes will play the track
Or you can highlight one or more songs and either right-click and choose Get Info, or press ctrl-i to bring up a dialog box for editing properties.
iTunes won't let you edit properties of tracks that are read-only or for which your account does not have write permissions. See this post if that applies.

Error in opening a file with name in chinese characters with Runtime.exec
The issue at hand is when I try to open a file with file name containing chinese characters in a localized environment in Windows through the following java code:

In Windows 7:
1. Right-click the file,
2. Select "Open With"
select [Your Program Here]
3. Check always use this program.
In Windows XP:
1. Locate the file as you have described above
2. Right click the file
3. Select Open with from the pop-up menu
4. Click Choose default program…
5. Select Excel in the Recommended Programs box
6. Check Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
7. Click on OK.
1. Make Excel not available from Office 2007 listed under Programs and Features in Control Panel.
2. Take a registry backup using the steps given here
3. In the registry editor window expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and navigate to .xls right and delete it.
4. Exit Registry Editor
5. Undo Step 1 to make Excel available.
6. Restart the computer and verify it the issue is fixed.

Itunes 12.0.1 cannot find track names online when importing CD. Help??
When I insert a new CD that I had bought iTunes cannot find the track names online. Once the CD is inserted and showing up in iTunes as track 1, track 2, etc. I click on option and select get track names again and then a message reading no error pops up. I recently just updated my computer to yosemite, and I did all of the iTunes updates, my current iTunes version is 12.1.0. I would really appreciate if someone could find a solution! It's driving me nuts!!
ThanksIf you log in as a different user, iTunes will work fine, even when using the same AppleID. It's a user preference that was messed up during the upgrade to iTunes 12. I've been working with Apple on this by phone for a few days now, and their engineers will have their 'results' of my case by the end of the week. That thread has some temporary fixes in it (such as deleting a few preference files or creating a new user account) to hold you over until a true fix is offered.

After changing track name, sequence no longer alphabetical
I decided to make a few changes to my iTunes library to ensure that, for all my classical music, the song name was preceded by the composer's name in the few situations where this was not already the case. So I made the necessary changes through the usual Get Info/Details which worked fine.
But I found that, when I then sorted by Name, the list was no longer in proper alphabetical sequence since the tracks that had been altered were still in their original position. The revised names were showing but out of sequence.
I tried switching to other sequences before returning to Name sequence to see if that might clear things but it did not help - the old order still remained when I returned to Name sequence
Any ideas why this might have happened? I am using iTunes 12 on a Windows 7 PCThanks, guys.
When I right clicked on the column heading and enabled Sort Name it was obvious that the "normal" tracks had no sort name whereas the problem tracks had a sort name equal to the original name. I then went into Get Info/Sorting and deleted Sort Name from the offending tracks and this worked fine.
I will just need to remember that, if I am changing the name in Get Info/Details, I will need to also blank the sort name in Get Info/Sorting

Since upgrading to iTunes 10.6 for Windows 7, it can't find any track names (or artwork). First, when you insert an audio CD, iTunes freezes ("not responding") for a few minutes, then it queries the Gracenote Media database, and a while later, the track numbers "Track 1", etc. are displayed and a message saying the track names can't be found do I want to continue to import the tracks. I tried reinstalling the previous version which worked fine, but it won't run saying the Library ID was created by a later version of iTunes.... I also can't access the iTunes Store from itunes on my laptop.
I have the same problem, any answears???

Is it possible to change a track's name when I bring it into a new playlist WITHOUT changing the name elsewhere? In other words, if I have a track named "dog" in my library, and I move it into a playlist, is it possible to change its name to "cat" in that playlist only, without simultaneously changing the name in the library?
Another way to ask this, if I'm being confusing:
I'm often in the situation of building multiple playlists, each of which might contain the same song - but I'd like to have a different name for the song in each playlist. So that the same song (same piece of music) would be in several different playlists, but would be called "Joe" in one playlist, "Sally" in another, "George" in another, etc.
Possible?
Bob PA playlist is only a set of links or shortcuts to the original file in the library so any change made to the file is reflected everywhere it shows up. It can't be one thing in one place an another in a different place because essentially there is only one file.

LABSomething else that may come in handy is this wonderful program and it is free, and no I don't own the company. It takes a bit of time to learn it, but worth the effort. You can edit tags for tracks one by one, or look them up in several databases, including Amazon and discogs, etc. I really like to pre-clean my tags before adding the files to my library since they often get scattered about, and depending on the source, may not even have track titles, only file names.

I unchecked *Itunes>preferences>general>automatically retrieve cd track names from the internet* and it stopped it crashing.

ITunes 11.3. I can't see any way of accessing CD track names through iTunes AFTER I ripped the CD into my computer through iTunes. For some reason the track names were not imported when I ripped the CD. Anyone know how to do that?
As far as I know this has never been a feature of iTunes. You always have to identify the CD before ripping. If you selected the wrong CD you can re-identify it for the next time the Cd is inserted but it won't re-label tracks you have already ripped. To re-identify an incorrectly identified CD: "Insert the CD and select it in iTunes, then menu Advanced > Get CD track names. Itunes doesnt grab the track names from Cd's
It used to, but iTunes no longer gets the track names from a CD when I attemp to import. It recognizes the CD name, but not the individual songs. They show as "Track 01", "Track 02", etc... I then try to get "get track names for CD's" through iTunes and it says, "unable to connect to the CDDB server".
any help?iTunes actually does not get the track names from the CDs themselves. iTunes instead connects through the Internet to the Gracenote CDDB server and gets the album and track information from there. So when you import a CD, your system needs to be connected to the Internet. If it's not, that's your problem.
If it is connected to the Internet, check your firewall(s) to make sure that that the CDDB site (gracenote.com, at least) is allowed in the firewall settings.

It still is simple, but as always you get the track names before you import the CD. iTunes has a preference setting so it will always do that or you can re-identify a CD using a menu item (see below). Once they are imported there is no way in iTunes to get the identification service to work. There are third party services that work outside of iTunes but for a single CD it is easier to just reimport the whole thing after correctly identifying first.

ITunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes
I have a number of WAV files and MP3 files that already have album information. I would like to erase that information and have it replaced using the "Get CD Track Names" function, but keep receiving an error message of "iTunes cannot get CD track names for CDs that were not imported with iTunes." Is there some way to strip the previous information and replace it with information that iTunes receives with the "Get CD Track Names" function?
Programs like itunes use characteristics of the CD such as track duration and sequence to identify CDs. Potentially this could be modified in a very small manner (maybe even a millisecond) in converting to a different format so maybe itunes doesn't even want to try getting the information for other formats.
You can certainly replace whatever information you wish by "get info" on a single or multiple selection of files and entering the data by hand. -
Import "Audio CD", no track names
this is probably an easy problem but...
all of a sudden when i put one of my cds in to import it, itunes doesn't recognize it. no track names, album title, nothin... just 'audio cd'

thanksIt used to be that when I created a custom playlist of my own music and burned a CD, the track names and name of the CD would appear (in Finder & iTunes) when that CD was inserted in another Mac. Now, all I get is "Audio CD" for a disc title and "Track n" for the tracks. At first, I thought the problem was in Leopard (burning a CD there and mounting it on a Tiger machine), but doing it in reverse also fails. What happened? This makes sending someone a non-commercial custom CD totally useless.
